How to format and hard reset N79? *#7370# does onl...

Hi!
I tried to format my Nokia N79 with *#7370# but all applications and contacts ect are still there. Is there a way to complettly reset and format the phone?
Solved!
Go to Solution.

I did this on my phone and most of the problem was being fixed by doing this, but doing this is just easy crazy.... I still have the phone lock issue.... the nokia says the default phone lock was 12345 unless changed.... My phone lock was never been changed but that 12345 never work.... I had tried this hard reset but phone lock was never been reset....
@gooran - here are the steps with that green button, asterisk, and 3 then power on
1) switch-off your phone
2) press and hold these three buttons: green call key, asterisk(*), the number 3 key (def). Make sure don't let go of these three keys unti you had pressed the power key for seconds
3) your phone may display formatting/deleting, or no display at all, as what haPpened to me, it has no display but others say it would have display....
4) switch-on your phone and you're done!

how to format my hard disk ....my mac book came with no cds

You do this either with a Mountain Lion install disc or drive, which you have to make yourself, or from the Recovery System. For the Recovery System, you reboot while holding down command-R. This boots from a (hidden) recovery partition that is on your hard drive; then you access Disk Utility and do your formatting that way. The Recovery system can do a new install of Mountain Lion from the internet from apple once you have reformatted your drive. Or you can make a ML installer disk from the installer files that you download for future reference.
Here's a page about Recovery mode: OS X: About OS X Recovery
and here's how to make your own ML installer disk: How to Burn OS X Mountain Lion to a DVD or USB Flash Drive..
BTW, you could have figured out all this yourself with a google search.

can somebody please explain how to format and then reinstall Mac lion10.7 without cd

You will need either an Ethernet or Wifi Connection to the Internet - USB Mobile device is not supported.
If you already have Lion installed you can boot to Recovery with Command R and use the Disk Utility to erase the Macintosh HD and then reinstall the OS from the Mac OS X Utilities.
You will need the Apple Id used for purchase if the Mac did not ship with Lion installed originally.
If you want to repartition the HDD you can use the Recovery Disk Assistant to make a recovery USB drive

I did my 7.1.2 update via iTunes. Half way through it stopped working saying it does not detect my phone. Now my iPhone 5 is in recovery mode and hard resetting does not work for me. iTunes also will not detect my phone now

Thank you SO very much for posting this. I had the exact issue with my iPad Mini after the same upgrade. Hard reset failed, computer would not recognize iPad. I had read all the other instructions and nothing worked.... YOUR SOLUTION WORKED FOR ME - with a slight variation.
I followed your lead and connected my iPad Mini to another computer, fired up iTunes, it saw the iPad Mini in Restore Mode and allowed me to go into Restore (yes, it wiped all of the data but I have a back up on the other computer that would not see it after the failed update). It installed the latest iOS 7.1.2 as well. I then disconnected it from that computer, reconnected it to the computer that would not see it prior and it then saw it as a new iPad and allowed me to Restore my backup and now it's all good!
I detailed my steps only because you downloaded the previous version - 7.1.1 whereas I downloaded the latest version (7.1.2) and then restored my back up.

    Hi everyone,
I am using N79 amd 5630 Xpressmusic. Can any body tell me how to format the memory card in these sets. Coz in file manager there is no option to format memory card.
    Regards

    Hi Sappal,
To format the memory card follow the below procedure:
    1. Go to "File Manager-> Memory Card" (I've named the memory card as N79).
    2. You will need to open the memory card and then go to its "Options" menu.
    3. Go to "Memory Card Options-> Format" and confirm.
Please note that the memory card will not get formatted unless every application is closed and you have not installed any third party applications on it. For this, you will have to uninstall any third party applications and only then proceed with the memory card formatting procedure.
Let me know if you need any assistance. My id is

  • HT1349 How to format my hard disk and restart

THis aftrnoon my system wouldn't start. a black screen with OS X utility. Now I want to format my hard disk and install  OS. X

Install or Reinstall Mavericks or Mountain Lion from Scratch
Be sure you backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive because the following procedure will remove everything from the hard drive.
OS X Mavericks- Erase and reinstall OS X
OS X Mountain Lion- Erase and reinstall OS X
OS X Lion- Erase and reinstall Mac OS X
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible
because it is three times faster than wireless.

  • Hard reset on 7370

I googled 2 evenings to find the hard reset code for the 7370 (RM-70) which is a BB5.0 based phone. Unfortunately no success. The code *#7370# does NOT work.
P.S. The idea is to have a clean start, not to unlock the phone. The phone is not locked an I have a backup with PC suite.

    hi eefidob
How about the "three finger salute"?
Press "*", "3" and *Green Phone" all at same time and then power on, keeping these three buttons depressed until Nokia appears!

  • NOKIA X6 Back-up and Hard Reset

i backup my phone everyday. Now ive have this freezing problem an my phone wont switch on. Just incase i want/need to do a hard reset, i want to know what the back up ..backs up?.....does it save contacts, images etc?....
and IF i do a hard reset....what will i loose?

@aircadetgirl. Further to my above post, I back up to PC Suite which backs up the following:
    User files from phone memory
    User files from mass memory
    Contacts
    Calendar
    Notes
    Messages
    Bookmarks
Settings - Phone model - specific backup.
As you back up your phone daily I would suggest you do the following:
On the phone dialer type *#7370#. You will need the security code, 12345 unless you have changed it. This will take your phone back to the state it was in when you took it out of the box.
After the above operation completes use your phone for a period of time to see if it works satisfactorily. If it does, reinstate your last update and see what happens.
Let us know how you go.

  • How to format new hard drive for Apple TV when you can't use old HD

I need to know how to format a new HD to install in my Apple TV where I can't use the old HD to clone or otherwise create the new structure on the new HD.
I have an Apple TV that was syncing to a Mac Mini that had a defective HD and logic board. I was unable to backup the Apple TV to the Mac Mini for some time before I had the mini repaired by AppleCare.
When the mini came back, it registered on the Apple TV as a new computer and I couldn't sync with it without losing hundreds of dollars of content.
All was okay until the other night when Apple's defective update for the ATV erased ALL my content. I updated it to 3.1 this morning, which Apple indicated might fix the problem. It didn't. The old content is all gone.
My ATV is out of warranty, so I removed the old HD and copied the files from the "Purchased" folder to my mini. That saved most 101 items that I purchased since 12/08 (but not all for some reason). I lost all content prior to 12/08 that I purchased, as well as some content since 12/08 that I purchased.
I need to keep the old HD untouched until I can purchase data recovery software. I'd like to just put a spare IDE HD in that I have into the ATV and just start over with what is in my Mac mini iTunes.
So, how does one do that? I'm not gifted with vast Unix knowledge or experience and I don't want to clone the old HD and risk losing more data if it writes to the HD for some reason.
    Thanks.

    Hi Atagahi,
Firstly, have you emailed Apple iTunes support indicating your issue? There have been instances in which Apple will allow re-downloading of all content you've purchased on the iTunes store.
Secondly, I highly recommend you get an external usb hard drive, attach it to your mini and use it as a Time Machine drive to keep your iTunes purchases safe. It's a fact of life that all hard disk drives will eventually fail. The Apple TV should never be used as any kind of permanent storage space; think of it as a 'temporary holding' zone. And as you've unfortunately already experienced, a glitch wiped out all content on the Apple TV.
As regards your original question, it seems like there have been folks who've done just that...taken the internal drive in the Apple TV out and attached it to a mac and copied files from the Apple TV hard drive. I have not had to do such, so I cannot offer any help here except for Linda's suggestion on googling the net for solutions.
Good luck and hope you get all your purchased content back Atagahi!

  • HT3910 How to format and erase Lion 10.7.3 completely?

I've erased and reinstalled my Lion 10.7.3 but after rebooting, all my previous programs are also installed. How do I format and erase my HD completely so I get a clean OS like I had when I bought my Macbook Pro?

    Downgrade Lion to Snow Leopard
    1.  Boot from your Snow Leopard Installer Disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button.  When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu.
    2. After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Note the SMART status of the drive in DU's status area.  If it does not say "Verified" then the drive is failing or has failed and will need replacing.  SMART info will not be reported  on external drives. Otherwise, click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
    3. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed.
    4. Quit DU and return to the installer. Install Snow Leopard.
This will erase the whole drive so be sure to backup your files if you don't have a backup already. If you have performed a TM backup using Lion be aware that you cannot restore from that backup in Snow Leopard (see below.) I suggest you make a separate backup using Carbon Copy Cloner 3.4.1.
If you have Snow Leopard Time Machine backups, do a full system restore per #14 in Time Machine - Frequently Asked Questions.  If you have subsequent backups from Lion, you can restore newer items selectively, via the "Star Wars" display, per #15 there, but be careful; some Snow Leopard apps may not work with the Lion files.

  • Transfer photos from PC to Mac - how to format ext hard drive?

Hi, I'd like to transfer jpegs from my old PC to my new Mac. I had already put my files on an external hard drive but when I plugged it into the Mac, it couldn't read it. I got a prompt to re-format it, which I did not do.
From reading discussions here, it looks like I first need to format a hard drive on my Mac, then copy the files from the PC, then transfer to the Mac? But the explanation is over my head - could anyone explain how to do it in plain terms? Thanks so much!

Hi there, if you want both OS's to read the external drive, format it as FAT32. I would do this from your PC as I have had problems with a PC not being able to read a drive formatted by the MAC. There are also other alternative. Or there is a third party alternative called Macfuse using the NTFS-3G plugin.
It is a free opensource project that allows your MAC to read and write to a NTFS drive. So you could actually connect your PC's drive to the Mac and get whatever you need or add.
    Hope this helps,
    Glynn

  • Having software problem, Windows 7 Home, how to format and reinstall

Having software problems, Windows 7.  I have the HP  P6510 desktop. I have backed up my data to ext. drive, and  I have the Windows 7 Home CD which I purchased.
Most of the reading I've done to "format & reinstall" seem to say I don't need to format...just put the Windows 7 CD in and restart...is that all I have to do...I don't have to format the HD?
If I have to "format" the HD, how?
PS:(Last time Computer was in for repair, they replaced the Windows 7 program so product numbers may be different.)

    Hi:
You may want to read this step by step tutorial to install W7.
    http://pcsupport.about.com/od/operatingsystems/ss/windows-7-clean-install-part-1.htm
However, to answer your question, you should not need to repartition or format the hard drive unless you want to.
Windows 7 will install on the current windows partition creating a windows.old folder, which you can delete after W7 is installed.
Having the windows.old folder is nice for folks like me who forgot to save a file or folder.  You can just browse to the Windows.old folder and retrieve any file or folder you want and copy it to the new windows installation.
When you are sure you have gotten all of your files from the windows.old folder you can delete it by launching the disk cleanup utility and then click on the Cleanup System Files button in the disk cleanup window.
Then just check the windows.old folder on the list of files and it will be deleted once you hit the OK button.
If you delete partitions and reformat, you will lose the option of having the windows.old folder.
The tutorial at the link above will step you thru the process of formatting the drive.
