How to format HDD with Windows Vista to install Windows XP

Hi, i would like to format my Notebook and to put Windows XP, but when i tried to do the boot using the XP cd it doesn't recognize the HDD, the type of my HDD is SATA
I believe that I should do download the special drivers, but i didn't find the drivers in toshiba webpage
thanks

Hi,
I believe you need to get the sata controller drivers applicable to your laptop, onto a floppy disc.
Refer to the following forum topic for instructions with the exception of where you get the drivers from:
http://forums.computers.toshiba-europe.com/forums/thread.jspa?threadID=25441
To get the drivers for your laptop sata controller, try the following download from intel:
http://downloadcenter.intel.com/license_agr.aspx?url=/12769/a08/infinst_autol.zip&ProductID=2792&agr=Y&sType=&PrdM ap=&DwnldId=12769&strOSs=44&OSFullName=Windows*%20 XP%20Professional&lang=eng
Then copy all the files beginning with ICH8 in the ALL folder of the download, to a floppy disc (refer to above forum topic).
Hopefully this helps you out.

If you mean just moving files between a Mac and a PC with XP on it, get a USB flash drive, format it FAT32 (they usually come that way) and copy the files to that drive.

    m8,
You might need to download the latest driver for your Dell Latitude(D600). PAN(personal Area Networking or Piconet) is just one of the profiles(device support/services) of bluetooth(SIG). Blue Soleil are only for that blutooth that uses that chips, like that of widcomm. Toshiba/HP laptops have updates for their bluetooth I can't see why Dell wouldn't have also. And check if the driver,is one that is known to work with Nokia phones.
    Good luck.

  • TS1347 How do I sync with windows mail contacts with my iPhone 4S?

How do I sync with windows mail contacts with my iPhone 4S?  I want to move my email contact information from Windows Mail to my iPhone 4S

You don't need Outlook to sync contacts. You do have Windows Contacts available which is a supported address book application for syncing contacts with the iPhone.
Windows Live Mail is not an email client. Windows Live Mail is an email account that can be accessed via webmail access using a browser or with an email client such as with Outlook or Windows Mail on a PC.
You can export your Windows Live Mail contacts from your Windows Live Mail online address book for import into the Windows Contacts address book application on your PC which is supported for syncing contacts with your iPhone.

  • How I fixed  bug with Windows VISTA & iTunes 7.3 software...

Okay guys, for a few weeks I've been posting about how my Windows Vista will not work with the iTunes software 7.3.
Many of you with Vista also have posted the same problems over and over and over with no real answers available to us.
Well, I have fixed my problem.
The last straw was last night when I desperately needed to burn something and obviously I couldn't because my CD/DVD Drive was "Missing".
All this morning I backed up all my files on my computer and reformatted my computer by choosing to set it back to factory settings. After 60 min. of this, after the 3 prior hours, my computer appeared brand new.
And sure enough, my CD/DVD Drive was there. Next, I went to my Roxio Easy CD Creator and sure enough, it also recognized my Drive as well. I had it burn a file and it worked.
Next, I went to an older Apple Downloads page, and Downloaded iTunes 6.0. Not anything but the lowest 6.
    http://www.oldapps.com/itunes.htm
And guess what, it works as well with my Vista.
I loaded a CD Soundtrack, pulled a few tracks into a separate folder then burned them and checked them.
So, this is one option for you guys out there to try that gets an A+ from me. Yes, it has literally taken me all day and night, but everything is back to working order and I am finally happy!
Anything to get rid of that nasty Version 7, anything!

  • Portable hdd format compatible with windows?

Hi. I have formatted my 320 gb portable hdd to os extended journal format but its not compatible with windows.
If I choose MS DOS (FAT) will it be at optimum performance with my mac?
    please guide me.

    Hi
MS DOS (FAT) is a fully compatible format, which will work with both Mac and PC. However, you won't be able to write files which are larger than 4GB.

  • How to format HDD on my Satellite C855-1GQ?

    I have a Toshiba Satellite C855-1GQ.
How do I format my HDD thanks for your help.

    Hello
I don't know what do you want to do exactly. HDD can be formatted before you install original recovery image that you got with your machine but also if you want to install own OS version.
If you have created recovery disc you can format HDD using one of the offered options (erase the hard disk) - http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/kb0/HTD1303440001R02.htm
In case that you want to use Microsoft installation disc at the beginning of setup procedure current HDD will be shown. You have option to delete existing partitions, create new partitions and install Windows OS.
Please let us know what do you want to do exactly.

  • NEW Macbook air and external HDD with windows files

    Hi,
I just bought (2 days ago) my first MAC (finally). After so many years of working with windows it was time to get of the dark side . Anyway, this is not my first time around apple products (I had iphones and ipads) so I know some basic stuff like iCloud, keychain etc. I bought 13inc macbook air, 128 GB SSD.
    Now this is my problem:
Although I worked on a windows computer I was saving all my files (work related, movies, music, tvshows, photos- a lot of them) on my external HDD (500 GB). Now, when I transfered to Mac I would like to have my Word, PPT and music files on my mac but not the photos, those I would like to keap on my EHDD. Can this actually work without some work around file extensions and EHDD formating? Can I use my EHDD like this? I know that it is both for Windows and MAC (it was written on the box).

I depends in what format the external drive is formatted as to how easy this is going to be.
I bet there is a good chance it is NTFS. If so, some moderately bad news. The Mac OS can read it, but not write to it natively, unless it is a networked drive.
Sure, you can add third party functionality to the Mac, so it will write to the external drive, but I would avoid it if possible. If your drive is already formatted FAT 32, or ExFAT, then you can perform cross platform reading and writing, without issue.
Fortunately we live in a time where most external drives are now relatively inexpensive. If you don't want to, or can't reformat that drive, because you have no space to put the files in the interim (I hope they are not just in place, anyway), consider buying a new external drive for sharing purposes.
    Just my 2 cents.

  • How to format hard drive containing Vista?

I have a Lenovo ThinkPad notebook with Windows Vista.
I'd like to format this hard drive so I can get XP installed instead of Vista.
When I boot to my XP CD, and hit "enter" to install XP, it tells me my hard drive can not be found.  However, if I boot to the hard drive, it loads Vista and everything fine.
Please help! I'm really tired of Vista!
    Thank You,
    Ben

Set your harddrive from AHCI to compatibility mode in the bios.

  • K7N2 delta max HDD with Window 98SE

I haven't been able to find this info on this forum so far. I'm trying to install a 160 gb Samsung HDD on the above mobo with Win98SE and I'm having a bugger of a time as the data keeps getting corrupted. I've received conflicting data that these boards will take up to 160, while elsewhere I hear 137gb is the limit. Any ideas?

Your other possible course of action here is to use the Rudolf Loew patch which resolves the issue. I have read quite a few posts which confirm that it works and overcomes the 137Gb (Win98Se's problem is I beleive 128Gb..i think) constraint imposed by win98se.
The prog is very small and only costs $10. There is a demo version which caps disk size at 145Gb. Why don' t you partition your HDD below 145 Gb and give it a try.
Here is the link by the way
    http://members.aol.com/rloew1/
I will be upgrading my dual boot system (with 98se) shortly with a bigger hard disk drive and will be purchasing this prog to see if it works.
The only thing you will have is formating difficulties with the windows utilities and I would tend to ditch those as they are not flexible and go for a third party utility. I use Partition Magic but there are several others to choose from.
As you probably know there also patches for 98SE as regards Firewire compatibility, running Serial ATA drives and allowing 98se to read (but not write to) NTFS partitions.
    Hope this helps
    Good Luck
EDIT: I think that a pci ATA Controller card would also overcome this issue....As the regards the mobo ability to deal with HDD >137Gb (from a bios perspective), if you mobo has 48bit LBA then it will not be problematic.

  • How to dual boot with Windows 8.1 and Arch?

    Hello everyone,
I've been looking into using Linux as my daily driver since having some experience with it on a server. After some digging around, I think Arch Linux is the best distro for me, now onto where I am.
I'm currently running Windows 8.1 (updated from Windows 8, which updated from Windows 7) on a Dell Inspiron 15R SE laptop, I want to dual boot Arch Linux with it. I've looked at the wiki and I'm still not entirely sure what to do.
Can anyone give me a quick list of steps of what to do to dual boot this? I've dual booted Ubuntu in the past and it was really simple because an installer did it all.
    Thanks, Expi.

Expi1 wrote:Thanks, I'm mostly struggling with how to partition for Arch and then how to do the bootloader. I'm using Win8 64-bit and from what I understand a Legacy BIOS bootloader. I'm not entirely sure what I should be partitioning the C: into, I've done partitions before, just not for Arch and then I'm not sure whether to use GRUB or syslinux, or if I even need those. Or if I need to use GPT or MBR?
Your disk is already partitionned so you don’t have to choose between GPT or MBR, the choice is already made.
You don’t partition “C:”, that is the name of a Windows partition. You partition a drive.
Grub or syslinux, use whatever the beginners guide tells you to. Personally I think syslinux is simpler which is why I’m using it (but I’m not dual-booting, if that matters).
You’re not saying what your problem is with partitionning, so it’s hard to help.
Thanks for getting back to me, I'm not sure if I just create one large partition for Archlinux or if I have to create multiple? Where I'm also confused is with the Creating Filesystems part of the guide. I don't understand how I'd do this in Windows, or what /dev/sda1 is referring to.
As for the bootloader part, the Beginner's Guide gives you a choice between syslinux and grub, what I'm not sure about is which to use considering I'm dualbooting. How it will affect my windows bootloader, do I disregard that and use GRUB now? I'm unclear on how that works.
I'm also aware I need to disable Secure Boot, I just searched my BIOS options and couldn't find anything remotely relating to that, so I'm assuming it's not an issue since this computer was originally on Windows 7 anyway?
    Thanks again, Expi.

  • Can't format HDD with Leopard Disk Utility

I have two identical drives P/N: WD 7500AAK (Western Digital 750GB MyBook (USB)). I formatted one drive using 'Disk Utility' under Tiger with a Volume Format: Mac OS Extended (Journaled) with no problem. I am now trying to format the other drive under Lepoard and the formatting fails 100% of the time. The drive will format to Fat16, but not to the desired Mac OS Extended (Journaled). Unfortunately I no longer have a computer with the Tiger OS. Any idea what is going wrong? The drive is useless if I can't format it.

Try partitioning the drive GUID before formatting it. This article explains how to format a drive for Time Machine. Once you have gotten rid of the Master Boot Record you should be able to reformat the drive the way you want.
One poster reported that zeroing out a Maxtor did not get rid of the Master Boot Record but I don't know if that would necessarily be true for a WD drive.
