How to free up media files that cannot be delete u...

I watched a couple of videos on the lumia last night. I used the browser to "stream" these by the movie player. The two movies were about 2Gb each.
Now I have no free storage on the device.
I have tried going to storage check and it tells me that of the 7.2G 7.1G is use with 4.4Gb in media files. The next screen ("details") shows an "other" of 4Gb. How do I delete those temporary files? None of the options work. I don't want to do a factory reset. This is unacceptable. And I don't want a 4GB phone, whenI paid for 8Gb. How do I delete these files and reclaim this space?

Hi, sthomo. Welcome to the Nokia Support Discussions! Aside from Storage Checker, you may also try these applications to manage your memory:
Freespace:

• "Here is a media file that can be deleted. Can it?" –

Or: managing media files across multiple projects.
Here is what happens in our workflow:
We do a lot of shows for one specific customer. Each program is a project. Usually a bunch of tapes is shot and then edited. So far, the project stands for itself.
Now, it happens that weeks or months later some other editor wants to use footage from that that project in his own. So he opens up the old project and then copy-pastes some clips into his sequence.
Again some time later, it's my job to free up some space on our RAID. So naturally starting from the oldest projects, I use the media manager to backup the final sequences and maybe some other clips that might still be useful. I save the consolidated project along with its media.
The I go to the original project and delete the original media files using the "make offline" command.
And this is where I unknowingly destroy the newer project my colleague has created. Bad thing.
To make a long story short: is there a way of keeping track of all links that point to a given media file from a number of given FCP *.proj projects? Can Final Cut Server handle this problem?
I know I could just start by archiving the newest projects first – but then it's not "archiving" since the newer projects might still be worked on.
Anyone out there with the same problem - or even a solution?
Manuel
(from Munich, Germany - so please cut me some slack concerning my English)

Thanks for the helpful hints so far, although they are just work arounds, in my opinion.
In everyday life it will be hard to prevent editors from doing what they have been doing all the time. And duplicating media files is not a good replacement for a site-wide media management really.
I would like to see someone write an application where you drop your *.proj files. The app then lists all media files that are referenced by more than one project and temporarily locks them in the file system. This would be the perfect purpose for FCSvr and a strong motivation for us to install it since all its other features wouldn't really leverage our editing process.
As I remember, even in those old days of Avid Media Composer you were able to lock bins and sequences, and the media tool then saved you from deleting those clips that were still in use.
At least it seems that there is not something that I might have overlooked in FCP and that would be the "perfect solution to our problem".
So all we can do is to hope for Final Cut Studio 3 or the next version of FCSvr.

You would have to be backing up one big file to encounter a space issue with 34GB free and that much freeable space in your FRA. Does your alert log show any error messages?
It's possible that based on your CONTROL_FILE_RECORD_KEEP_TIME or other issue(s) that older files are left in your FRA.
Basically, you can run the following commands and anything older than what is shown in this list can be removed.
RMAN> list copy;
RMAN> list backup;
RMAN> list archivelog all;To be on the safe side, you could rename the older file(s) on the filesystem that don't show in the list above. Then run a CROSSCHECK and LIST EXPIRED in RMAN to ensure it doesn't want one of the files you want to delete. If the LIST EXPIRED doesn't show anything, then it should be safe to delete the file from the filesystem.
You also may want to ensure a large file wasn't deleted on the filesystem that still has a file handle open for it. lsof can show any of those files.

• Files that cannot be deleted or opened

I have filesthat appear on my hard disc and cannot be deleted or opened. How do I get rid of these?

As an "administrator account", you should be able to "sudo" before commands such as "rm" (delete) or "chmod" (change permissions of) a file.
But before you start going "sudo-happy", what and where are the files? I ask because some files should not be deleted except by existing automated processes.

I have random excel files on my desktop that cannot be deleted. What are these and how can I trash them?

They appear as mounted DMG files.If you right click on them mdo they have an Eject entry?
Have you set the OS to Show All Files with a terminal command? If so take that off for now.
Look in your Home folder (Users/UserName) and then the Desktop subfolder under it. Do you see all these files/folders/drives?

• How do I import a file that is on the desktop to iMovie?

How do I import a file that is on the desktop to iMovie?
I had some 8 mm film put onto DVD by yesdvd and now want to import the 3 hours of video into iMovie to edit and create a short story.
I have created a dmg file on my desktop from the DVD but am at a loss as to what's next. There are a bunch of files on the dmg file, including one that says video, which has a bunch of files in it that are video. I assume I need to convert them to a format which iMovie likes. Which one should I use, and which program should I get to do it?
Once I have done that, where should I put the converted files and how do I work with them using iMovie?

You need to convert the VOB files in the TS-Folder of the DVD back to DV which iMovie is designed to handle. For that you need mpegStreamclip:
http://www.squared5.com/svideo/mpeg-streamclip-mac.html
which is free, but you must also have the Apple mpeg2 plugin :
http://www.apple.com/quicktime/mpeg2/
(unless you are running Lion in which case see below))
which is a mere $20.
Another possibility is to use DVDxDV:
http://www.dvdxdv.com/NewFolderLookSite/Products/DVDxDV.overview.htm
which costs $25.
For the benefit of others who may read this thread:
Obviously the foregoing only applies to DVDs you have made yourself, or other home-made DVDs that have been given to you. It will NOT work on copy-protected commercial DVDs, which in any case would be illegal.
And from the TOU of these forums:
Keep within the Law
No material may be submitted that is intended to promote or commit an illegal act.
Do not submit software or descriptions of processes that break or otherwise ‘work around’ digital rights management software or hardware. This includes conversations about ‘ripping’ DVDs or working around FairPlay software used on the iTunes Store.
If you are running Lion:
From the MPEG Streamclip homepage
The installer of the MPEG-2 Playback Component may refuse to install the component in Lion. Apple states the component is unnecessary in Lion, however MPEG Streamclip still needs it.
To install the component in Lion, please download MPEG Streamclip 1.9.3b7 beta above; inside the disk image you will find the Utility MPEG2 Component Lion: use it to install the MPEG-2 Playback Component in Lion. The original installer's disk image (QuickTimeMPEG2.dmg) is required.
The current versions of MPEG Streamclip cannot take advantage of the built-in MPEG-2 functionality of Lion. For MPEG-2 files you still need to install the QuickTime MPEG-2 Playback Component, which is not preinstalled in Lion. You don't have to install QuickTime 7.

How can I send a file that CAN NOT be printed or saved by the recipient?

Impossible. PDF files don't stream, so they cannot be opened until they've been saved.
You can truly prevent printing by using DRM, or ask nicely by using a permissions password (though that's ignored by non-Adobe software).

Adobe Send can certainly do that.
Or you can do it manually:
upload the file to Acrobat.com
check the file on the Acrobat.com site and click Send
use Create Anonymous Link and click the Create Link button
copy the created download link and send it by email

• How to see the .AS file that .MXML file is translated to before being compiled to SWF?

I am trying to dynamically load some other Applications in
one Application, use ActionScript but not SWFLoader tag, it looks

<mx:Application>
<mx:Script>
<![CDATA[
private var loader:SWFLoader = new SWFLoader();
private function loadSWF(url:String):void{
var baseURL:String = this.url.substr(0,
this.url.lastIndexOf("/"));
var url = baseURL + "/"+ name;
//even if I did not add any event listener!
loader.load(url);
]]>
</mx:Script>
<mx:Button label="B" click="loadSWF('Top_2.swf');" y="10"
x="58"/>
</mx:Application>
then when me click the button, always occured an error like
this:(even if every method I add try...catch... )
TypeError: Error #1009: Cannot access a property or method of

however, if I use <mx:SWFLoader source="Top_2.swf" />

SWFLoader correctly!
I hope someone can tell me how to crrect this mistake
directly, but I more wish someone to tell me how to view the .as
file that the .mxml file translated to before being compiled to a
SWF( If there is a such step!)
Thanks!

Maybe the SWFLoader must be one child of one DisplayObject!??
I found when the swfloader is been added to some
DisplayObject in actionScript like below, the problem didn't occure
any more.
swfloader.visible = false;
this.addChild(swfloader); // 'this' is current Application
swfloader.addEventListener(".....", someHandler);
swfloader.load("someurl");
Why? Is this a bug or not?
I am still waiting someone to tell me where a .mxml file can
be translated to a .as file which could be visited!

Easy way, CLONE IT to another HD
HD cloning software options:
1. SuperDuper HD cloning software APP (free)
2. Carbon Copy Cloner APP (will copy the recovery partition as well)
3. Disk utility HD bootable clone.

BAD IDEA
You want one backup (ie Time machine) and one (or more) data archive of just all your raw files (drag and drop, or cloned etc.)

• How can clients view video file that I upload to my Creative Cloud area?

How can clients view video files that I upload to my Creative Cloud area? Is there a special password that they have to use to gain access?
Thanks for any guidance.
Dave

As a video professional, i agree and am VERY disappointed with this policy. I attended CC presentations at various conventions, film festivals and meetups for a year-and-a-half before I made the leap to CC, and no one EVER mentioned a restriction to transferring video files.
Whether it's to save storage space or not, that's how it APPEARS to the end user. Anybody who knows ANYthing about how video pirates commit their crime (which it most-certainly is), knows that there are plenty of FREE, untraceable (or nearly-anonymous) resources to carry it out. The need for anyone to pay $30 or more per-month to do it with an acct that has their info attached to it is ludicrous! If anything it's CONTRIBUTING to piracy to encourage creatives to transfer their material to collaborative parties using a less-secure, more heavily-trafficked third-party service than the one they're paying for exclusive use for.
Adobe's policy makers need to review this restriction and remove it or provide ANOTHER reason why it exists because this one doesn't fly. And if it continues, make sure a disclaimer gets inserted in CC pitch presentations because likely half of the attendees are working with video.

• How to Find Lurking Media Files

Hi,
I'm trying to clear off a mac mini so I can sell it. The only software on it is Final Cut Express, Soundtrack, LiveType and iLife '05. I deleted everything out of iTunes, and I thought all media files and renders from the couple projects I had in Final Cut Xpress. My problem is there is still 18gigs being used from the internal SATA drive. I realize the software uses space - but not that much right? What could be lurking? How do I find media files if maybe all I really did was delete names and not the actual media??? Any help/insight appreciated!! Thanks.

OK, I went to whatsize (kind folks over in mac mini forum directed me there too!) and from another forum there, I learned how to make the finder show me the size of everything. I don't have any lurking media files as I feared, but it seems LiveType is a big space hog! Does this sound right - almost 8 gigs for LiveType Data folder? The entire Library Folder is over 11 Gigs combined - please forgive how completely un-informed and newbie I must sound....
