How to Free Up Memory Allocated by Kernel without reboot

In one of the Production Server we are facing issue in which server is up for last 365 days.
While checking we found that kernel memory utilization is itself 64 %.
I want solution by which we can free up Memory used by kernel which should be normally 12-15 %.
I am aware about that rebooting the server will resolve the issue.

How to free up memory to play game ?

I recently tried to install a game via dvd, but then got the message that I had "0 mb...and need to free up memory" to play the game
yet I have recenty added memory and have over 500 mb available, according to the system.
do I need to drag the game icons to the hard drive? seems like I have enough memory, but when the game file appears it says " 0 mb" at the top of the file. or do they mean Ram?
I am a first-time mac user, love the forum, and would appreciate any suggestions

The game likely needs to be installed from the DVD onto your iBook's hard drive. Obviously, you will need to check the specs of the game to see how much space is recommended by the game maker for the game to run and run efficiently.
500 megabytes likely isn't enough to run a game. This is the space on your iBook's hard drive, correct, and not the disc itself?

Ngage and music store will only eat RAM you cannot say that to increase efficiency to memory management. Features are always here to eat RAM:d
Right now, I guess the demand paging application will DEFINITELY be a good solution to increase RAM. I hope existing N95-1 will get this.
Besides, my lil advice always clear the cache of the web browser and use a task manager that will monitor the currently running apps in background.

How can I measure memory allocation of a Java Application?

We built a web application that enables images to be loaded into a database through a servlet running on Tomcat. We have inconsistent behaivor when more than x number of people are loading images simultaneously. No doubt a memory allocation problem, but how can I measure it?
For example, I'd like to be able to create a graph showing the resources used against the number of people making uploads. I am using Linux and Tomcat/Apache.
I am hoping for something like Memory counters that are available for measurine Windows applications on MS Windows - comes with the Resource Kit. Does this type of tool exist for the Java/Linux market?

It is difficult to gauge memory usage from a Java application as the JVM handles garbage collection and even if objects are not referenced they might still be sitting in memory until the next garbage collect.
Anyhow, a way to query available memory is:
Runtime.getRuntime().freeMemory()
You can run this at the begining of a process and at the end and examine the difference. You should call System.gc() before each freeMemory() call in order to try to force garbage collection.
Another method would be to turn to the underlying OS. On linux you could use 'top' or 'ps'. With ps you could do something like:
ps -o rss,vsz,%mem <pid>
Where <pid> is the parent Tomcat process' id. The resulting three columns are:
- Amount of real memory used.
- Amount of virtual memory used.
- Percentage of real memory used.
'man ps' wil give you more options on how to use ps.
There are also fancy graphical stuff like 'gtop' as well.

Upon scanning memory n then phone memory details shows that "88 mb" space is used by message, even the inbox having 4-5 messages and 15 message in self created folder n all are simply text message, no mms no email no attachments etc. As earlier i hav told my problem is 88 mb memory encroached by message only. How to Free Up Memory Away from Computer

I'm on the road and there is an album I want to download from iTunes onto my iPhone. There is not enough room on my phone and I need to delete some videos from my phone. How do I do this without having access to my computer?
Any other ideas would help. If I deleted enough aps, would that do it? Or, does that free up all that much memory?

How to free up memory while running?

Hello,
i´m using a custom OPUI written in LV.
In there i start TestStand 3.5.
The model of Teststand then starts two parallel-sequences (as "New Execution" that are loaded in Sequence-File-Load and looping all the time.
One parallel-sequence checks the buttons of the OPUI and the other parallel-sequence is controling a climatic chamber. When a special temperature is reched then it executes "Test UUT" of the model-sequence (also as "New Execution").
Everything works fine but someone is eating memory. Everytime when a Test UUT is done the memory goes up. And after it is finished the memory is not released.
So my question is: How can i free up unused memory (like garbage collector) in teststand, or in LV if there is a special action needed.
Or perhaps the teststep-results are not removed? So that i create 100s of new executions and they all keep the results?
I already clicked on "Disable result recording for all steps" in the two parallel-sequences and in all steps in the model. So that i think that only the Mainsequence Callback is creating results.
Has someone any ideas what i can do?

If you have result collection disabled for all of your steps then the memory leak is likely due to something else. You might not be closing a reference that you should be. Try to narrow down which part(s) of your sequence are leaking the memory by either stepping through things one step at a time and looking at memory usage or perhaps by cutting out parts of your sequence until the problem goes away. Also, if it's not your sequence then it might be your custom UI that is leaking the memory, to determine this, try running your sequence in the sequence editor and/or one of the UIs that ship with TestStand and see if the problem goes away.

How the free WPID is allocated ?

We have configures for the enhanced number range buffering. As per this the NRIV_LOKAL file manage the buffered number for each of the appserver+WPID (called instances). Based on this we can see we cannot acheive chronology, since the WPID allocated when the user invokes the transaction can vary leading to number allocated from various lot. While this is expected behaviour by theory.
However when we were in ECC5 we did not see much difference in chronology to numbers allocated. With in the day, all the numbers from buffer were getting used. Now after upgrading to ECC6 we see one buffered range is getting not used for almost more than 15 days. Possibly because the WPID is free and did not pick up the user performing the transaction.
Question? Is there a change in SAP's logic (possibly dispatcher or Kernel) of allocating the WPID for a user between ECC5 and ECC6.
I am suspecting in the past when a user login, he was allocated the same WPID as long as it was free for every transaction he called..something like that.
If you need more technical details on the issue I can provide. This is just a brief to make this message short.

Hey,
The WPID (work process ID) is allocated by the operation system, OS(for example windows, linux and etc), each operation system, has it own algorithm for allocating PID (process ID).
Therefore, sap can not create workporcess id and ecc5 or 6 both uses the OS, I guess with the upgrade to ECC6 you have also upgraded your OS.

How to free the memory after closing JavaFX Stage?

I am creating a JavaFx application which contain a button. When I click on that button, it opens a new stage containing a table with thousands of data. It's working fine. But the problem is, when I close the Stage of that table, memory is not getting free by the application i.e. everytime when I open the new stage for table then memory is get increased. Is there any issue with JavaFX? or I have to do something else?
I have tried to set everything null at the time of closing of that stage but still memory is not getting free.

Is there any issue with JavaFX? or I have to do something else?It's likely an issue with your application code (though it could be a bug in the JavaFX platform too).
Either way debugging most memory issues in JavaFX (except for ones the graphics card texture related) is the same as debugging them in Java - so just use standard Java profiling tools to try to track down any memory leaks you have.

DB = Oracle 10g
Apps=EBS R12
OS = Linux RHEL 4
My server physical RAM is 4Gb.
At fresh reboot the Memory consumption is 80M only.
When I started DB is goes up to 800Mb memory usage.
When I started Apps is goes up to 2Gb.
But when I shutdown DB and Apps I am expecting is will go back to 80M.
but still the 2Gb is used.
When I startup DB and Apps again the usage goes up to 4Gb.
How do I resolve this please :(

Two questions:
1. On this screenshot, it shows that I have 2.25 GB (1119 photos), but I really only have 28 photos on my phone right now. How do I know where the rest of the 1,000+ photos are, because I have not synced any from my iPhoto or elsewhere to this phone? I have not used my iCloud at all, so nothing is synced there as well. I would like to free up some space because I really do not have that many pictures on my phone.

How to free video memory ?

Hey,
I'm making a simple presentation, lets say with 2 slides.
In each slide, i've embeded a video from an external link, lets say video1 and video2.
In slide 1 i have :
video1.seek(0);
video1.play();
In slide 2 i have :
video2.seek(0);
video2.play();
I use the keyboard to go back and forth the slides.
My problem is when i go back and forth several times between two slides, the memory used keeps increasing.
Any solution ?

if this picture shows what I suppose(12 instances of a flvplayback component) :
you dont need to use the same component multiple times to show multiple videos:
instead have one Layer where you put one FLVComponent that stretches over all 12 frames and set the sourceporperty of this component with actionscript.
so say your compoennt on stage is named "videoplayer".
in frame 1 yous have this:
videoplayer.source = "video1.flv"
videoplayer.seek(0);
videoplayer.play();
in frame 2 you write:
videoplayer.source = "video2.flv"
videoplayer.seek(0);
videoplayer.play();
etc.
