How to FULLY remove metadata (author, file location, etc) of a PDF to really make it anonymous?

Here is an example: when creating a PDF from, e.g., using TextEdit and "Print > Save as PDF",
the dialog box gives the possibility to change or remove the authors.
However, other informations such as the location of the file are written in the PDF file,
and this can be an easy way to identify the author.
... and opening the PDF file using Adobe Reader and going to File > Properties > Description
you can see this location (which display the full path and, e.g., your login if it is used in the path).
Location is just one example and perhaps there are other problems like that (?)
So, is there a robust way to remove ALL the metadata from a PDF file *** indepently on how it was generated *** ?
Thanks for your help!
Pierre
PS: There several discussions on this topic but I haven't found the answer to solve the problem globally

Best way if you have a large screen is to use command shift 4 and draw a box around the PDF image, a image file appears on your desktop.
Open that in the free LibreOffice drawing (several pages if needed) and then Print > PDF
No hidden meta data there.

How do I remove or delete files and image files within a document foler?  I have tried dragging the files to the trash, but that is not working.

Right-click (or ctrl-click) on a file. If the "move to Trash" option is greyed out, select "get info" and read the permissions at the bottom of the info window.
    Wat are they?
Do the same for the enclosing folder - what permissions does that have?

  • How to fully remove programs?

    hi all,
I've just installed realplayer from their site, and I just thought: how do I remove it? If I ever need to uninstall any program I haven't installed via pacman fully, and the corresponding installer does not have an "uninstall" option, what do I do?
Does this mean that the problem with Windows folders cluttering and filling with junk still hapens in linux? The perfect solution would be to remove everything related to the program fully, even the symlinks if any.
    Help appreciated!

kcy29581 wrote:well, the real installer asks you where to install during the installation itself. Is that what you mean? If I use ABS will the only difference be that I can fully uninstall the program or is there more involved, and it will still do all the *.bin's steps?
The different is the software will be manage by pacman so you can easily wipe out any file created when installing the software. This mean you will not have to delete all the files manually, just type pacman -Rcns $pkgname and all the installed files will be deleted (except maybe some configuration files in your home directory).

  • How do I remove an old file from the Finder Favorites list?

    Good Afternoon.
I have a shiney new MBPro with 10.7.1.
On my old machine running Snow Leopard, I had two .xls files I used often that I had dragged to the left side into the favorites. The truth is, I hadn't used them in months, but hadn't bothered to remove them. Then about ten days ago, the Bad Thing happened, and I had to replace my laptop rather suddenly. The nice folks at the Apple store transferred all the data and I was off an running in just a few hours.
Now, I thought to myself, I should remove those two files since I don't use them any more. But how?
If I click on them nothing happens. If I right-click on them, nothing happens. I can't drag them out because they don't drag and they aren't listed on the list of favorites that can be toggled on and off in preferences.
I checked. The files did still exist but deleting them didn't remove their names from the favorites list.
Any suggestions as to how to remove these two .xls files from the Finder's Favorites list?
    Thanks. A picture is below.

  • How do I remove "All My Files" icons from the toolbar?

    Good Afternoon:
I have A shiny new 15" MBPro that came preinstalled with Lion that I have updated to 10.7.1.
If I open a finder window, there are two "All My Files" icons on either side of the toolbar. I asked a Genius about it and they said they had never seen that. I can remove "All My Files" from the list of Favorites on the left easily enough. I can open up the window to customize the ToolBar, but in that window there are no "All My Files" icons available to add or delete.
How do I remove the "All My Files" icons from the toolbar?
Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.
Below is a screenshot of the problem.

Sort of surprised they didn't know. I'm lost as to why that even appeared on your computer unless you had put them there yourself which, clearly, you didn't if it was brand new out of the box.
    Glad it's sorted out.

  • How can I extract metadata from file names?

If I want to extract metadata from file names? How can I do that? I want to read through the file names and when I get to a certain character ("-"), I can take the string just before that character and store it in a column in SharePoint. Is this

You should be able to leverage the split method.
In PowerShell It would look like:
    # Gather the file name
    $file = "myawesome_filename-Month-Day-Year-Ect.doc"
#split the file name by the "-" character
    $file = $file.split("-")
    # Use a foreach Loop to gather the individual items.
    foreach ($item in $file) {
    write-host $item
    #Outputmyawesome_filename
    Month
    Day
    Year
    Ect.doc
    # If you want to only grab the first item, you can do $file[0] <-- powershell starts counting with zero base.
    $file[0]
    #output
    myawesome_filename

  • How do i remove the authorized signature from a certificate widget on captivate 8?

Does anyone know how to remove the authorized signature from a certificate widget on captivate 8?
    or
How to build my own widget to include quiz results/score and print widget?

Strange workaround, but just checked it and it works (even for responsive project): you can drag the Signature, I dragged it as far out as possible (to the bottom) and when previewing the Certificate it was gone.
Do you need a widget? It is not that easy if you need it both for SWF and HTML output because I'm aware at this moment of only very few widgets available on the market. You can create a slide with all you need, using the quizzing system variables and a button with a JS to print?

  • Any developers here? How to programatically extract metadata from files..

In addition to its asset management and workflow automation features, I plan on using FCS to extensively tag media clips with 10-15 metadata fields. Are there any online guides that describe how the metadata is stored in the file? I need to write a script that can extract the metadata fields from these clips, but I'm not really sure where to begin.

The simplest way is to use the Write XML response. This outputs all the fields and their values associated with an asset to an XML file.
The other way is to us a Script response. If you know how to write a script (bash, perl, python, ruby, or anything else that is executable on the Mac hosting your installation of FCSvr), you simply leave open variables that match the fields you wish to extract and then call them within the script response's command parameters with your field names in square brackets. Apple has posted sample code on ADC.
Incidentally, the metadata for FCSvr is held in a PostgreSQL database. The media files themselves do not carry the metadata with them (except for some limited exceptions).

  • How can I remove the 'all files' pattern in the file dialog?

Is it possible to remove the *.* pattern from the file dialog? I want my users to only see my own made patterns...
    Thx!

    Hi Dennis,
you can add custom patterns with the pattern input, but you cannot remove the "All files (*.*)" pattern. To remove it was the question.
But I'm sorry I have also no solution to this.

  • Growl & Notification Center conflict on Firefox: how do I remove growl ghost files?

    Hi everyone,
I'm exeperiecing un unpleasent issue with Firefox. Not working appearing in Notification Center!!!!!
    - I have the latest version of Firefox, so I'm sure it's supported.
    - I had Growl 1.2, which is the most updated version of the "non-App store" version of the software.
    - Never bothered to buy the super expensive version for the App Store.
    - I removed all the software in Growl preferences so that they would appear in Notification center instead, and that worked fine, except for Firefox.
    - I also uninstalled Growl, and checked the website for instructions on removing every single file (http://growl.info/documentation/growl-package-removal.php#1.2easy). But that didn't work either.
    - Firefox seems to keep generating some files when I start a download in order to run growl, so even if I erase them they still show up the the Library.
    - I tried reinstalling Firefox, didn't work.
    - Tried reinstalling Growl 1.2, but Mountain Lion won't allow it, so I can't even reinstall it and run the uninstaller later.
What on earth am I supposed to do?
    I hope someone outhere knows.
    thank you

You want to Hide the app in the App Store (as seventy one suggested). This will stop you from recieving notifications about updates.
In Mountain Lion, fnd the app in Purchases. Right click on it, and choose "Hide Purchase..."

  • How does one remove a author of a doc

Hello I purchased a health intake form from someone and all I want is that person to be removed as author so she isnt able to see my clients information. I paid for the form not her being on it.

    Hi;
You won't be able to remove the author.
You can "Duplicate" the form with the Responses, select the form in your "My Forms" tab and click "Duplicate", then in the dialog select "Form and Responses".  You will have to give the new form URL to people, update where you have it posted, send email with new link etc.  This new form would be owned by you and exactly like the original.
If you want that original author to be able to modify that new form at any time in the future you could share it with them and then remove that sharing privelage at any time.
A few things to consider, if you have a "Free" account and the person who authored the form we are discussing has a paid account you would lose some features in that Duplicated form, if your account is also paid that would not be an issue.
If you have someone else author a form in the future you should create a duplicate to distribute before you send out the URL and start collecting responses.
I hope this is helpful and works for you.
    Thanks,
    Josh

  • How to automate removal of Duplicate files

Is there a way to automate the removal of duplicate files with LR2?
In my catalog of 62,000 files I have 7,300 that I believe are duplicates.
They are proprietary RAW files (CR2). I have the same files as DNG. At least I think I do.
My intention is to have all my RAW files as DNG only.

If you believe all of you CR2's are duplicates, just filter All Photographs by file type and delete all Raw's.
If you have unique CR2's (that have not DNG equivalents) you'll ned a third party utility that is able to detect duplicates ignoring the extension. Delete duplicates from drive, then use Synchronize Folder to remove missing files from catalog.

I can't have my associates and customers signing a document that does not require their signature. How do I remove this requirement from the PDF?
(Yes, I have seen the other threads on this subject but the registry entries described are not in my registry and merely disabling the user interface doesn't remove the REQUIREMENT for the signature in the first place.)
