How to generate an Author Index by Proper Name in CS4

Mac/OS 10.5.8 CS4
I'm working on a book and I need to generate an Author Index by Proper Name first and than First Name and Initials...
The HELP menu says it can be done, but I don't undertand the instructions. How do I choose the Proper name shortcut? It says:..
"Using an indexing shortcut, you can quicklyindex individual words, a phrase, or a list of words or phrases.Adobe InDesign recognizes two indexing shortcuts: one for standardindex entries; the other for proper names. The proper name shortcutcreates index entries by reversing the order of a name so it isalphabetized by the last name. In this way, you can list a namewith the first name first, but have it appear in the index sortedby last name. For example, the name James Paul Carter would appear in the index as Carter, James Paul.
To prepare a list for indexing, separate each item you want to be indexed with any of the following: a return, a soft return (Shift + Return key), a tab, a right-indent tab (Shift + Tab), a semicolon, or a comma. The indexing shortcut adds a marker in front of each entry and places all the items into the index.
In the document window, select the word or words you want to index.
Do one of the following:

How to generate WS and WSDL for proper working DS under ALDSP 3.0?

Ive got small problem with generating WebService and WSDL for proper working DataService in AL Data Service Studio.
Whats the worse, I cant find any good documentation showing how to do it step by step in the new development enviroment.
Currently Im doing it like:
1) right click on DS and then Create Web Service Map
2) when Im trying to View WSDL for created (in previous point) WS Map, after a while for deployment, I get Error 404--Not Found
3) when Im trying to Save WSDL As ... , after showing where it should to be saved, nothing happens
4) At Test Web Service Map option Ive got (in ZIP archive there is error trace from WebLogic console):
http://localhost:7001/xyz/abc/test/something.ws?WSDL
failed due to weblogic.testclient.WsdlParseFailedException: Not Found
My questions are:
i) how I can generate WS for DS?
ii) when there will be some tutorials to download for ALDSP 3.0?

Some new facts about this situation.
A moment ago Ive made all the things like in edocs:

After that problems still exists and what is the worst - the same problem as at the first time.
So:
1) Problem of not migrated kind="private" to visibility="private"
2) Problem of migrating the files encoded in CP1250 if they got charakters encoded in CP1250
3) I know that proces of migration from multiple imports to the same namespace within XSDs must be done in manual way but problem still exist
4) There are some issue like this:
"[ld:xXx_PIDataServices/cache/order/order.ds]: The return type of the read function "{ld:xXx_PIDataServices/cache/order/order}setOrderStatus" with arity 1 does not match the Data Service target (element) type "{services.cache.integration.amg}setOrderOut"."
When I remove kind="read" from pragma then its going to be valid.
In short time we will try to contact with our local BEA support.
PS Right now I was trying to import another project (sample one for Workshop 8.1 - <BEA_HOME>\weblogic81\samples\workshop\SamplesApp) and it also didnt go smoothly :/

How I generate index markers using Applescript and tagged text!

One of the challenges I've faced in automating the book making process using Applescript with inDesign is that there don't seem to be any AS commands for making new index markers (anyone please correct me I if I'm wrong about this).
I've tried various js scripts which do an OK job, but they don't make the actual native markers. This means you have to wait until the book (consistiing of multiple ID files) is complete (so that all the page numbers have been established) to generate the index.
Recently, I read a tweet from someone with a link to a technique which uses tagged text and find and replace with GREP to edit the tags, inserting the tagged text index tags in the text file and then re-placing the text file in the ID page. In itself, this works great. But I'm dealing with literally thousands of separate text frames, none of them connected in a story.
The books typically consist of around 1200 pages with almost that many people, each of whose names I need to index with "Lastname, Firstname" references. And those particular strings don't (can't) appear anywhere on the pages. There will also be about 50 ID files all combined into one book. So it is imperative that I have ID generate the native index markers. To help keep things straight and efficient, I'm creating separate small text frames to hold the lastname, firstname strings. I created an object style for these frames which sets the attributes to "nonprinting", and I place the frames in the margin.
Then I realized that I don't actually have to have ID export the tagged text files for each. I exported one prototype and copied its tags to properties in my script, and then I concatenate them with the respective list item values I import from the database.
At the proper point in the page building script, I tell "textwrangleer" to make a new document, set its contents to the index string for the current record, save it to disk, overwriting the previous one, and then tell ID to "place" it in the index text frame, which generates the ID index mark.
I actually got an AS error when I first tried this: "file doesn't exist" or some such. Then I realized that the "place" command was happening too soon, so I inserted a .5 sec delay in the script, and it worked.
This is actually my first major script for actual work, and I'm so excited about it! I promises to cut production time down to about a thenth of what it was.
I still have to add some logic to branch between handlers with slightly different parameters for five different page formats, but the same page building handler will work on all of them.

Index, add all, proper name

I am creating index entries including a large number of proper names, and I want to Add All so that every occurrence of the name is indexed, but by last name.
I see the shortcut to create an index entry for a proper name, but in order to "Add All" I need to use the Index Panel.
To Add All for a proper name and have it appear in the index sorted by last name, I would use the Index Panel and then type the last name in the "Sort By" box (Ex.: for "John Doe" I would type "Doe" in the "Sort By" box). Right?

I don't think a single GREP could do it, which leads to another problem: how to prevent successive grep replaces from working again on an already reordered name?
Try something like this. Select the entire index; set the text colour to "Red". Then do as much as possible with GREP, and do the remaining by hand. The GREP Search should specify "Red" text, the replace should set the colour back to "Black".
Likeable GREP expressions are:
Search: (\u\l+) (\u\l+); replace with $2, $1. That'll take care of all "John Doe" to "Doe, John"
Search: (\u\l+ \u\.) (\u\l+); replace with $2, $1. That'll pick up "John A. Doe" to "Doe, John A."
Search: (\u\l+ \u\l+) (\u\l+); replace with $2, $1, changes all "John Allen Doe" to "Doe, John Allen" -- but for compound surnames ("Matt Le Blanc") you'll have to double-check...
Search: (\u\l+) (\u\l+\u\l+), replace with $2, $1, to alter "John McDoe" to "McDoe, John".
(I can combine all of the above into a single GREP, but for clarity I've restrained myself :-) -- besides, you probably need more than one S/R run anyway. Hence the colour trick.)
For slight variations, all you have use are these basic GREP wildcards: \u for uppercase character, \l for lowercase, '+' for one or more (hence "\u\l+" -- an uppercase followed by any positive number of lowercase). The period is a GREP wildcard, so it has to be escaped as "\.", and the parentheses define Replace groups (the $1, $2 in the replace; I put them around as "$2, $1" to switch first/last name).
The remaining should hopefully be exceptions to these simple rules, and probably could easy be done by hand, as they stand out in red.

That's a bigger problem, actually. The page numbers for the variations of "John [X.] Doe" will all appear as individual entries in the index. They would have to be added
i all in the same way
as an index entry for ID to see they're the same. Perhaps you could first generate the index, look up strays, such as one entry for "J. Doe" and one for "John Doe", and correct these in the text. Only when the index entries are okay, do the final index cleanup. And hope the text doesn't get revised.

lo_nd_node = wd_context->get_child_node( name = wd_this->wdctx_node ).
lo_el_node = lo_nd_node->get_lead_selection( ).
index = lo_el_node->get_index( ).
node is the name of the node which is binded to the table.
For printing the message u can use code wizard.
Press ctrl-F7. Now Select generate message.
IN this select the method REPORT_SUCCESS
In the code now u can give index to Message text Exporting parameter. Comment receiving parameter.
Write the whole code in onLeadSelect of the table.

How to generate a PDF format report

Hello,
here i am trying to generate the report as 'PDF' format from the form. after i run the form a parameter form comes up there i give parameter as 'IC' it should get only the IC related report in 'PDF' format. i could do this but after i close the adobe and return to the report its not over writing on the same file where i gave the DESNAME:='C:\KAVITHA8.PDF'. its taking atleast 10 minutes to rewrite on the same file.
i tried first the following way to get the PDF format output but its not even working.

All the information you described points to the problem that reports seems can't generate to a file which already exist. You can verify that by simply doing
r30run32 C:\AC_REPORT.REP DESTYPE = FILE DESFORMAT = PDF BATCH = YES' desname=c:\temp\ac_report.pdf
several times. If first time the report is successfully generated in c:\temp\ac_report.pdf, but not the second, third time, then it looks like there is a bug on reports r30run32 executable.
You may try to find any latest patch for Reports 3.0 to see if patch can solve you problem. But keep in mind Reports 3.0 is de-supported, you are better to move to 6i or 9i reports.

How to get the column index inside a dataTable

Hello,
before I get staked, there are multiple threads handling familiar topics to the one I'm questioning about but none gives an anwer. If there is one, I'm propably to less skilled to see it.
So here is my Problem: I've build a web-interface to a time-recording system. The hours worked on a certain project are displayed in a dataTable component which is generated out of a mySQL Query. Each entry (column/row) contains a inputText component to display and edit the specific value.
Editing one of these inputText elements now fires a valueChangeEvent which reads the new value and stores it in the database. For that cause I need to know the row- and column-index of the inputText component that fired the event.
Using the getClientId method from the valueChangeEvent I get some Information which makes it possible to calculate the row/column index. A typical clientID looks like "form_table:mainTable:0:_id14". "form_table" is the ID of the form the dataTable is in. "mainTable" is the id of the dataTable component. "0" is the row the component is in. And finally "_id14" stands for the id randomly given to the inputText component by JSF.
My Problem is now, that though I can calculate the column out of the[i] "_id14", this calculation is hardcoded. So everytime I add a component in before the dataTable, the calculation needs to be adjusted in the code.
The Questions:
- How to force a sensefull id indicating a column-index for the inputText components inside the columns of a dataTable?
- Nicer since no workaround: How to get the column-index inside the dataTable on a natural way? (e.g. out of the valueChangeEvent the specific inputText component fires)
After some investigation here on the board and on the net I know multiple ways to get the row index, (Things like component-binding and so on) but I can't find a answer on how to get the column-index.

As you've noticed the table gives you the flexibility to move columns around. So if you move column 0 to column 1, why would you expect to still use 0 as the index? The table manages the reordering of columns for you to make sure the data being displayed in each table column comes from the correct column in the data model.
You can manage this yourself using one of the following methods (I forget which one):
table.convertColumnIndexToModel(int viewColumnIndex)
table.convertColumnIndexToView(int modelColumnIndex)
Or, you can get data from the data model directly:
table.getModel().getValueAt(row, 0);

How to generate code in Sun Java Studio Enterprise 8

Do I miss something? I can�t find how to generate code from UML model, which is not reversed from code. Documentation also does not speak about this.
Code update works fine if project is reversed from code, but if in such reversed model I create new class it does not appear in code and context action "Generate Code" is missing for such class.
I use Sun Java Studio Enterprise 8

1. I have created Java Project With Existing Source
2. selected directory with code (not whole project but directory with java classes)
3. After that I have created UML Java Specific project and
4. Associated UML project with previous created java project
5. I have selected "Code Generation" check box
6. Classes from java project were reversed into UML model.
7. After that I have created new class in java project.
And there is no Generate code action in this class context menu, also this class do not appeared in code automatically.
From UML project properties it is shown that UML project is associated with proper java project)
Same is with Java Application project associated with UML java project.
Documentation do not talks more about this. Only same steps. It looks like code generation should be working but it isn't. I'm I only one who face this problem, or do smth wrong?

How do I merge several indexes into one for a book?

I have created a book comprising 6 sections for a total of 343 pages and have created an index for each section. The pagination is consecutive 1-343 and I want the have a single index for the book. How do I combine those six indexes into one in Indesign CS4? Thanks in advance.

When generating your index you have the option to "Include Book Documents". If all's well, that ought to work.

How to generate individual HTML files from linked help?

Hi folks,
I'm trying to figure out how to generate individual web pages - based on heading types - from a help project this is linked to a FrameMaker book.
I'm linking to the FM book, rather than importing, because the import process ruins my graphics. So, I know how to create individual web help pages using the import process; but that's not an option for me. (The graphics issue is a whole other discussion, which I've since given up on.)
So, I'm using TCS 3.5 (RH9 and FM10). I've successfully linked to the FM book. Each topic represents a complete chapter and includes a single Heading 1 for the title and several Heading 2's. Again, these are all in the same help topic because I'm linked to the FM book.
What I want to do is generate the web help so that new web pages (files) are created. In other words, I want breaks before each Heading 2. I want the resulting web pages to be named based on the Heading 2.
Is this possible?

I’m not sure I understand the problem (I’m using FM 10, RH9, TCS3): You can adjust .isf and all Conversion/CSS mapping, etc settings for an existing project (Linked or Imported) at:
File > Project Settings > FrameMaker Document > Edit Conversion settings for FrameMaker documents: (click Edit button).
Then, Go to FrameMaker Settings > Paragraph > Heading 1 etc. and click the box for Pagination.
What I don’t know is if you have to re-do your linking process from scratch to do your pagination settings right the first time (like create a new project with your Frame docs, which shouldn’t be hard to test if you have saved your CSS, Master Pages etc), or already have an .isf file with proper settings that you can specify at time of first import/linking. I already had these in place when I set up my linked project of a Frame book with 13 chapters – 350 pages – resulting in over 300 separate HTML files/topics (set H1, H2, and H3 levels to paginate). I don’t know if you can change these things post-linking, but it can definitely be done!
There is definitely no reason to have to have an entire FM chapter as one topic in RH. You may have to create a new project to achieve your desired results, I am not sure.
I hope this is helpful. Regarding RH ruining your images, I know what you mean. Through a painstaking process of research, trial, and error, I found that these Image options in the Conversion Settings produced the best results for me, though not as good as “ideal:”
·         Check the box for “Use Distiller to Generate Image”
·         Leave the “Do Not Regenerate Images” and “Preserve 3D Images” boxes unchecked
·         Under Preferred Dimensions: Check “Maintain Aspect Ratio” and check Width and Height – Set both to 0pt. (*This one was a key tip.) Leave “Scale” unchecked. (Scaling seems to do terrible things in RH.)
·         I left the Max Dimensions settings unchecked.
·         Set my personal preferences for margins (2pt all sides) and borders (solid, gray, 1 pt)
·         Under Advanced, Default format of PNG with color bit depth of 24. My graphics are all screenshots, so this is the reason for this in my instance.
