How to get 10.6 calendar out of Time Machine after a clean install of 10.8

I recently did a clean install of Mountain Lion on my 2007 2.2GHz Intel, 4GB RAM with 120GB SATA Disk.  First, I backed up all of my files in a 1 terabyte WD external harddrive using Time Machine on Oct. 26; as I used my MacBook Pro during the week Time Machine continued to back up my files as I kept it connected to my laptop.
On November 1st I disconnected the WDHD and initiated the clean install.  Using a Jonathan Morrison video on YouTube I erased all of my files on Snow Leopard and installed Mountain Lion.  (I only want to import certain data back into my laptop at to keep it free from choking on files and programs that I never or rarely use; I only use it for writing and the calendar and misc: no pictures or movies: I am trying to be gentle with it because of its age.) For the next 9 days I backed up all of my Word docs and files in various cloud storage.
On November 10th I connected the WDHD again and Time Machine did its backups; as I worked I assumed that iCloud and iTunes was taking care of the internal syncing, of my calendar and notebook, contacts et. al, as I merely connected my phone, signed in to iCloud and opened iTunes and clicked SYNC. After the syncs, I opened Calendar and found none of my events; Notes, likewise, had only 7 notes: on my phone are over 40.
I began research online and found that the majority of post and responses to the question of retrieving this type of data (Calendar, Notes) was best accomplished by using Time Machine.
http://chasingaftermoonbeams.blogspot.co.uk/2012/05/restoring-lost-ical-events-a nd.html
This blog informed me that if I turn off my wifi and erase certain files, I can then restore my calendar from my Time Machine back up.  The only problem is that my Time Machine, while it is in the "Star Wars" mode will not let me access anything beyond November 10th.  I went into my Time Machine user files to access my calender files - and they are there -  and discovered that my old 10.6 drive is separate from my new 10.8 drive.  I did a bit of research and found an article on that subject:
http://creativetechs.com/tipsblog/access-files-from-other-time-machine-backups/
This article informed me that one can browse other disks in Time Machine.
The only problem with this solution, for me, was that my new 10.8 drive was the only drive available to choose in the Time Machine "Choose Time Machine Disk To Browse" dialog box.
My question is this: How do I retrieve the 10.6 Snow Leopard OS X Calendar files (pre-November 10th) from Time Machine and install them on the 10.8 Mountain Lion OS X Calendar?

I recently used Migration Assistant to migrate the calendar folders but that only created another user; after I deleted that user I attempted to drag the folders to my desktop but recieved a prompt that I did not have permission to do this.  If anyone has any ideas on this problem I would very much appriciate any advice that might assist me in understanding the concatenating process of what I am attempting to do.  It has been quite curious and vexing.

  • How can I restore my iTunes library via Time Machine after an erase/install and upgrade to Snow Leopard?

    Actual problem:
I reinstalled all my programs that I need without a hitch. Meanwhile, I've been trying to recover the few files (mostly music) I actually store on my computer's hard drive as opposed to on my external HDs. I use one external HD for my graphic files and the other is strictly for Time Machine backups. I tried to recover my iTunes music, but I got a message that says: "The file: "iTunes Library.itl" cannot be read because it was created by a newer version of iTunes." I restored (I thought) my iTunes library Username/Music/iTunes." Additionally, I was going to upgrade to Mountain Lion, but I have seen that there were issues with Lion and iTunes libraries so I'm a little wary of this.
Excuse the long explanation, but I figure the problem may possibly be in the details of the weeks prior this problem:
I have recently been having issues with my iMac. I brought it in to see a Genius twice within the past month and they couldn't seem to find the problem. (It would restart Finder of it's own accord while I was using Adobe CS programs) I figured it was worth backing everything up via Time Machine and doing a complete erase/install/factory reset. I did so and had a problem again, and brought it in again, third time. The Genius did another diagnostics tests and found nothing and said my erase/install probably did the trick, but time will tell. I am, after the erase/rewrite and upgrade running Mac OS X 10.6.3 and previous to this was still running Tiger.

So, I didn't update iTunes and the rest of it after installing Snow Leopard. My stupidity, I figured that the OS was more up to date than the one I had previously so that all the programs that come with it probably were more current than the ones I was using. However, now that I have updated all my software, I am still getting the same message from iTunes that I was previously. I cannot open iTunes at all, same "The file: "iTunes Library.itl" cannot be read because it was created by a newer version of iTunes." message. I'm confused again. Checked a few other threads and whatnot and cannot seem to figure this out.

It's not real clear what you want to do.
Do you mean you don't want to back up your personal data at all, just the operating system?  If so, why?  Usually it's the personal data -- documents, photos, videos, etc., that are most important to folks, so should be backed-up.
Or do you mean, you have some sensitive data that you don't want anyone to be able to recover if they get your backup disk?  If so, Time Machine can encrypt the backups, so anyone without a backup can't recover anything.
    Or something else?

  • How to I retrieve my Calendar data via Time Machine?

    Help!
I foolishly erased my Calendar data (don't ask how...i feel dumb) and I'm trying to restore it via Time Machine. I can't find the data and am not allowed to restore the whole app. Anyone out there know what I should do?
    Thanks!

Can you paste here the full path:
    Like Time Machine > ... > Library
This should be your user library, not the system one. So something like:
    Time Machine > ... > SpringLakeBob > Library > Calendars

  • How do I restore mail from Time Machine after a clean Yosemite install?

I've been having various performance issues with my iMac recently (wifi keeps dropping off, scan functionality on my multifunction printer stopped working, whole system periodically hangs) so decided to do a clean install of Yosemite. I also have a MacBook Air, also running Yosemite, and on which I have no issues with the wifi, printer or system performance.
Before doing the clean install, I made sure I had a current Time Machine backup. The process appears to have worked so far, but I have run into an issue restoring my mail. I think it best if I describe how I have restored my documents and then I can show at what point I run into a problem.
To restore documents, I opened Time Machine, used the keyboard shortcut command-shift-C to show the backups prior to the clean install, and then selected the documents I wanted to restore. This was simple and worked perfectly.
To restore my mail, I opened Mail, selected 'Enter Time Machine' from the shortcut menu at the top of the screen and then used the keyboard shortcut command-shift-C to show the backups prior to the clean install. This is where I got stuck as command-shift-C is a default shortcut in Mail that shows the colours dialog box. Hence I have been unable to view the correct backup. The backup I want is listed on the right hand side of the screen in Time Machine, but I can't work out how to select it.
I thought changing the shortcut in Mail might work, but I couldn't find a way to do that either since it is not listed in the Keyboard section of System Preferences.
    Any ideas gratefully received.

    Hey there,
It sounds like you're still having trouble exposing the proper library folder. You can use the following terminal command to do it globally (this will show all hidden files)
Open Terminal from your appliications folder and copy/paste this into it:
defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles TRUE (press return)
**After that last line you'll need to restart the finder so use:
    killall Finder (press return)
Now if you enter Time Machine the correct Library should be visible. To re-hide your hidden files repeat the process above but replace TRUE with FALSE, then use the "killall Finder" again.
I agree with the commenters above, you should restore the Mail library to the desktop and then re-import it to Mail. This is how I was instructed to solve this problem by Mac help, who I chatted with online for quite a while before they figured it out.
    Hope this helps

  • How can I restore iMessages from Time Machine to a clean install?

    Hello,
I just recently did a clean install of Mavericks.  I was wondering how to transfer all my saved iMessages from my Time Machine drive to this clean install?
    Thanks in advance!

Sign out of iMessage and all other IM accounts, if any. Quit Messages. Hold down the option key and select
              Go ▹ Library
from the Finder menu bar. A folder window will open.
Enter Time Machine and restore the subfolder named "Messages" from a backup that predates the unwanted changes, then log out and log back in.
If you're running OS X 10.9 or later, delete the subfolder Containers/com.apple.iChat.

  • How to access root apps folder again in Time Machine after a restore?

I just did a Time Machine full system restore which worked, but now it doesn't look like Time Machine is backing up my root level apps folder. All of my root apps were indeed restored, but if I try to go into Time Machine with my (root) Apps folder open, it switches the folder contents to my user apps instead so I don't have access to the root apps in TM. It doesn't appear to be backing them up at the root level anymore either (nothing in the exclusions that would cause this). Any ideas on what happened here? I have just one admin level account on this machine.

    Hi everyone,
I just reformated the MacBook hard drive using Extended HFS+, journaled partition to get rid of the case-sensitiveness, which is incompatible with just ONE of my softwares. As such, TM partition is formatted as Extended HFS+, journaled and case-sensitive.
This mis-match is likely to cause trouble in the future. If you have, for example, two files named "FileA" and "filea" in the same folder on the TM drive, and try to restore them to your case-ignorant HD, TM is going to have a problem. I've never tried it, so I can't tell you whether it will overlay the first one it restores with the second, or crash, or what, but it can't be done.
And you may have some of these without realizing it -- if you ever changed a capital to lower-case, or vice-versa, after a file's initial backup, it's a possibility.
Indeed, I checked directly in the Time Machine tree on the external hard drive with Apple+I keys, and 'cubytus' was not listed in the permissions.
No, TM automatically denies everything to everybody, among other things, in it's backups, to keep us mere mortals from messing with them. The original file permissions are kept separately, and TM should restore them along with the files, as they were.
What you're probably seeing is, the user that you're signed-on as won't have those permissions, once TM restores the files. I'd suggest trying the same procedure as your other, or original user -- see if you get the same message.

  • How to enter time machine after a fresh install??

Hi I just reinstalled my system after I got many errors and many clutter on my hard drive. I made a full TM backup before formatting the hard drive.
Now I am in the new fresh system and my time machine hard drive is displayed but just as an external hard drive (displayed in yellow instead of green) and I can not enter the time machine.
What did I do wrong? I don't want to restore everything the way it was before but just certain settings and items. So basically I want to  use the timemachine interface and select the items I want to restore instead of using the migration assistant where I have to restore full categories.....
    How can I do this????
Oh by the way, I am using OSX Mavericks.

You have to enable Time Machine in System Preferences > Time Machine. Also, now Time Machine detects your Mac OS X copy as one installed on a new Mac, so it won't allow you to restore files from the backups through your Time Machine interface.
To restore your files manually with Time Machine, see > http://pondini.org/TM/E3.html

  • How to retrieve the Application Data from the Time Machine Backup, into newly Installed OS X Lion

    Hi!
I recently intalled a clean Mac OS X Lion on my system, I was having Snow Leopard (10.6.8) before. So before the format of the hard drive I have taken the full backup of the system by Time Machine.
Now, after the fresh installation of Lion, I want to retrieve the data of diffrent previously installed applications like iPhoto, Address Book or iCal and so.. but certainly I want to retrieve the data only, not the full application (since they are the older versions of the application). How I can have the data of these applications into the new OS X Lion's blank Applications..!?
    Please give some solution.
    Thank you very much.

    Lion hides your home library
there are 3rd party programs to help. having a CLONE of your old system often trumps what TM alone offers.
And it makes sense to start a new TM backup set on another drive and keep the old one intact.
Lion Community and TM section might be worth a visit.

  • How should I set up my Time Capsule after a clean install of Mountain Lion?

I just did a clean install of my computer.  I have been using time machine to backup everything to a time capsule.  I used migration assistant to reload my stuff to my computer.  I want to get time machine up and running again but I am not sure what the best method would be.  Currently it has a record for two computers.  My former computer and this one (with the lion backup).  I want to keep those safe if possible but I know space is tight.  My first choice would be to continue with the same backup of my computer that was started under lion (as it would have done for a typical install).  This way it will currate the dates and what it keeps correctly.
    Any help is appreciated!

Okay, on reactivating my time capsule, time machine tells me that there are no backups in the past that are available.  It looks like it thinks I am starting fresh.  This doesn't match what I was expecting to see at all.  I didn't start the backups because it didn't fit what I was expecting.  Am I doing something wrong?

  • How do i get my iphone 5 out of recovery mode after trying to install ios 7

Alright, so i tried to install ios 7 and i got an error saying that the ios 7 update got a problem and so then my phone went into recovery mode. i installed tiny umbrella to get it out of recovery and it worked, so then i tried to install ios 7 again and it got another error this time my phone had already been switched to the ios 7 format but was not completely done, so my phone went into recovery mode again. so i tried tiny umbrella again and it just kept going back to recovery mode. i tried to restore my phone after trying to look for another way to get my phone out of recovery mode and i got nothing so i decided to restore my phone and i then get another freaking error saying that itunes could not restore due to a problem, then i just decided to try tiny umbrella one last time and it didnt work. so i tried to restore again but now my phone is not being detected on itunes so i cant do anything, and my phone is stuck in recovery mode... all i was trying to do is get the new update and now my phone is dead, it wont do anything please help!!

Use tinyumbrella. Connect your iphone, click on the random string of numbers that appears in the recover devices window, and click "exit recovery". That solved my problem, and it may solve yours. Give it a shot.

{code}Sure, if you have other data that you haven't mentioned yet, then you need other columns, and maybe even other tables, to store that data.
Talking about this would be a lot easier if you described what you were trying to model in these tables, and what the different entities are.

Shouldn't I need to have the extra seq(PK), then use check seq to group the data report to meet users' target format ? Please adviseIt depends on what your entities are. If you explain that, then perhaps I can give some advice about how to model them.
In general, every type of entity requires a separate table. It looks like xcert represents one kind of entity, uniquely identified by certno. I assume there is some other kind of entity, uniquely identified by checkno, and that you have a table for that which you haven't needed to show in this thread.
Are you saying that there's some other entity, that is uniquely identified by checkseq? If so, it probably needs a table of it's own.
Every table should have a primary key. I had assumed that checkseq only served as the primary key of the xcheck table. If it serves some other purpose, then yes, you would need another column.
Many-to-many relationships usually require a separate table. I was guessing that xcheck was intended to record a many-to-many realtionship between xcert and some other table. Guessing is not always the best way to solve problems. I think it would be better if you explained what you want to do, rather than have me guess at it.
So far, what you've shown is analagous to an order entry system. One kind of entity is customer, another is supplier. Say you're running a company that sells products from many suppliers to many customers. There is a many-to-many relationship between customers and suppliers. Any customer may buy from many suppliers; any supllier may sell to many cutomers. You may have an orders table that keeps track of that many-to-many relationship. You may also have another entity, salesman, that also has many-to-many relationships with customers and suppliers. Depending on what exactly you consider an "order", there are lots of different ways to model this. Can a single order involve many customers? Can a single order involve many suppliers? Can a single order involve many salesmen? If an order always involves one customer buying from one supplier using one salesman, then you may only need four tables. If the situation is more complicated, then you may need more tables.

    Hi all,
I have a question of how to get the actual PDF out of a Document Form, when I take the @document value I only get some xml representation of the form, but I need to get the actual PDF.
    Thanks in advance
    Sincerely

The @document is the way to get the PDF out from the DocumentForm varibale. If you get just the data, it's because the DocumentForm was populated with just the data in the first place.
Make sure you submit PDF from your form and not just the data.
