How to get a bootable DVD/CD on a uefi pc

Hi,
I am using a laptop with uefi firmware. It has also rEFInd installed and working.
I downloaded the Achboot the archlinux-2014.11.01-archboot.iso and burned it after checking md5sum.
Unfortunately I cannot boot it.
Did I miss something?

I know this is not the answer to your question, but my first UEFI laptop just would not boot from a CD/DVD in UEFI mode. I had to burn a USB stick. I never got it to boot from CD/DVD and never figured out why.
If you figure it out, I'd love to know how you did it!
(FWIW: That was an Acer i7, bought new in December 2012. There was a firmware update that came out about 6 months after I bought it, and I updated to the new firmware-- but never tried booting a CD/DVD with the new firmware. Maybe it would have worked? Do you have a firmware upgrade for your machine and are willing to try that route?)

  • How to get Lion on DVD

for the remote chance my machine will crash, be undable to download another version of the OS, how do I get Lion on DVD

You didn't say if you have a new machine that had Lion already installed.  Apple will not be issuing a Lion DVD, but they do offer a Lion thumb drive available from the Apple store for $69.00.  If you purchased and downloaded it from the Apple store, you can download it again at no charge (you also didn't tell us if you mean a defunct hard drive, or an inability to boot up).  If you mean a hard drive problem, you will have to replace the drive and install SL 10.6.8 (I believe that you need that installed in order to install Lion) before doing anything else. Then, if you purchased from the Apple store, you can return there, go to the Lion page, option click on the "purchases" tag (it will turn blue) and it will bring you to the page that lists your purchases. Lion will be there, and you should be able to install it from there.
On the other hand, if you have Lion on your machine now, you can make a bootable DVD or flash drive from it. Rather than trying to explain the process here, I recommend that you go to: http://www.macworld.com where you will find articles on how to make the bootable DVD or flash drive.
    I hope this helps.

  • How to get slideshow on dvd for tv

I have a slideshow in iPhoto, also have it as a project in iMovie, and cannot get it onto DVD to view on tv from either place.  Cannot find iDVD on the system, although I can select from iMovie to have share it with iDVD.  It processes it, which takes about 3 minutes, but never opens into iDVD so I can burn it.  I've tried it from finder, and it burns it but won't work on tv dvd player.  Anyone know how to do this?

    Hi
If this is a New Mac - then there is no iDVD on it - even as iMovie think so.
If there is no iDVD on Your Mac (and it's not on newer Macs as Apple discarded it) then You need a program that can do this.
Your Mac can burn CDs and DVDs - BUT DVD as Data-DVDs not as Video-DVDs - they need a program to be encoded and STRUCTURED as such.
    • iDVD is part of the boxed version of iLife'11 and can only be bought outside Apple as on Amazon and e-bay
    • DVD Studio pro - Part of FinalCut Studio Pro bundle - this to has expired and can only be bought second handed. (High price and tough learning Curve - but best ever done.)
    • Roxio Toast™ - Not as elegant as iDVD - but has many other positive additions (I like it as 10-Pro incl BD-component) (now version 11)
    • Burn - only free alternative I know of on internet. Very simple - Just for doing a plain Video-DVD
    Burn http://www.digital-digest.com/software/Burn.html
only You can buy from Apple is
    • FinalCut Pro-X which also can burn to DVD but without any nice themes.
    AppleMan1958
You can also buy Compressor from Apple for $50 US. It will also create DVD and BluRay but without the nice themes.

  • How to get iMovie onto dvd to play on dvd or computer with a Mac Book Pro 2011

I am new to Mac and have a MacBook Pro with Lion OS 10.7.3  I purchased it mainly to for work but also to make small movies of my baby to send on DVD to family interstate.  I am now struggling to work out how to get the movie onto a DVD. Surely there is capability with the technology I have.
    Thanks

When you say above that iDVD will be updated to the latest version by Apple....how is that true since Apple no longer supports iDVD?
Apple does support iDVD.  Software update will update the latest version of iDVD automatically.  (Incidentally, software update will also update iMovie 06.)  For the best quality, I use iMovie 06 with iDVD 11.
Apple only sells iDVD on disk as part of iLife 11.
Various resellers continue to get fresh inventory of iLife 11 on disk (with iDVD) from Apple.
I received an update to iDVD only a few months ago (after the release of lion).
Apple supports iDVD on this forum.  Further, iDVD is still supported in Apple stores.
    https://discussions.apple.com/community/ilife/idvd
IDVD remains a popular application in the Apple community. For a variety of obvious reasons Apple would prefer your movies to be stored on the cloud. Many people however prefer to have a physical copy, that they can possess, that is easily playable on over 700 million DVD players worldwide.
I will occasionally put a movie I have made on the web. My friends and relatives will rarely watch it.  On the other hand, if I mail them a DVD  they ALWAYS watch it

  • How to create a bootable DVD?

    Hello,
I want to create a bootable DVD (or USB stick for that) with a minimal Mac OS 10.8.x on it - and I want to include some utilities of my own choosing with it. There are apps available for doing that, but all of those I have found so far cost money that I would rather not like not to spend, if possible.
Does anyone know how to do this or does anyone know of a free app that helps doing this?
    Any help is very welcome!
    Regards
    Jim Knopf

The easiest way to do that is with an USB drive.
    1. Open App Store > Purchases and download OS X Mountain Lion.
    2. When the installer appears, follow the steps and select your USB drive as the destination to install Mountain Lion.
    3. When the installation finishes, install the apps you want.
Also, you can use Lion Diskmaker to create a bootable USB drive with the OS X installer there, so you can start from it if the hard disk is damaged.
If you are asking to "reduce" OS X and put it on a USB drive, you shouldn't do it. Instead, install the complete Mountain Lion on the USB drive

  • How to get a bootable vhd for a Linux on Hyper-V with two disks ?

    Hi folks,
I am running a custom linux on my Hyper-V in Windows Server 2008 R2. I initially configured one disk(4GB) and then I added one more hard disk of higher capacity (8GB). Now I got two vhd files with different sizes.
If I want to create a new linux VM (with two hard disks as original), with an existing vhd file, which one can I use?
I tried the first one, but it is not working as expected.
Is there any other way to get a bootable vhd file for a linux VM with two hard disks?
    Any tools to make it?
    Thanks in advance,
    Saleem

    Hi Tim,
Thanks for your response. I am rephrasing my question and requirement again.
I need to create a pre-configured Virtual Machine package(something like OVA in ESXi) in Hyper-V. This package should have disk, memory and network configs.
These are the steps I performed:
    1. I created a Linux VM with a single 4GB disk.
    2. I added another 80GB SCSI disk.
    3. Now I got two .vhd files with 108MB and 80GB sizes
When I tried to create a new VM using VHD file, I was able to give one VHD file as input and selected 108MB VHD file for my VM.
With this VM got created but with only one disk of size 4GB. I need to add a new disk manually to get two disks.
My requirement is to create a VM with two/more disks using one VHD file without any manual input.
In other words, I need to create a pre-configured VM package (Similar to OVA) that could be used to create a VM with two or more disks.
This single package file could be given to users, so that they can deploy a similar VM as defined in the package file.
When we create VM using ESXi OVA file, we get the configured number of disks.
What is the similar packaging mechanism in Hyper-V?
Does Hyper-V on Windows Server 2008/2012 and SCVMM 2008/2012 support OVF/OVA to export and import?
    Thanks,
    Saleem

  • How to get Original OS DVD That Came With MacBook Pro

    Hi,
I bought this MacBook Pro last year - I think I did not get a restore DVD with the OS etc. with it. Is there a way for me to get it from Apple?
    Thanks,
    Apurva

You can get replacement System Install & Restore CD/DVDs from Apple's Customer Support - in the US, (800) 767-2775 - for a nominal S&H fee. You'll need to have the model and/or serial number of your Mac available.
If you're not in the US, you may need to go through the regional Apple Store that serves your location to find the contact number. Here's a list of links to all of those -

  • How does one Create Bootable DVD from downloaded iso image in Windows?

I have a completely empty system I want to load Solaris Express on. I have access to web on a Windows XP machine and have downloaded the Solaris iso image. Using WindowsXP facilities simply copies the iso image as an intact iso image file and resulting disc is not bootable. Windows knowledge base very conveniently says that what happened to me is what happens. No obvious referral to how to do it....
    A) So for a non-Windows savy person who does not want to become Windows savy (That is why I downloaded Solaris!) Where is a set of instructions on how to (inside Windows XP) "extract" an iso image to a CD / DVD disk so it will be bootable?
    B) It sure would be nice if Solaris were able to be loaded onto a USB Flash drive and booted at will from any USB computer. Just plug it in and boot. Has this been done?
    C) Getting a physical disk by snail mail from Sun is very slow for me.... (3 weeks and still watching the mail box...)

You probably copied the .iso file as one single very large file onto media. Instead, you can use a utility such as Roxio DVD Creator or Nero (or freeware like cdrecord) , and select the option to burn an image that already exists. No special boot options are needed, because the ISO image already contains the boot information needed.

Has this been done? With the Newboot project introduced into Solaris Express, I believe it is now possible. I'm not a USB expert, though, so cannot say for sure.

  • How to get video from DVD into FCE?

    Hi,
I have a DVD which I got from a childhood friend. The DVD contains a compilation of old film clips (her family had old super 8 movies transferred to DVD). I'm trying to import the clip (it's one long video clip, 30 mins long) into FCE for editing. But, when I try to import, all I see on the DVD is one file folder labeled VIDEO_TS; this folder contains eight files with strange suffixes, such as .IFO, .VOB, and .BUP, none of which are accessible. Anyone have any idea how I can get the files into Final Cut Express?
I would really appreciate any advice. Thank you.
    Vic

Hi again, Martin. I did the 'conversion', and it appeared something was happening (i.e. a 'progress bar' showed that something was going on, and it took about 20 mins or so. So, I figured it was doing the conversion. Once done, a 'play' button appeared, but when I pressed it, nothing happened. Does that sound like I'm missing the MPEG2 Playback Component?
Note: I noticed during the conversion an indication that the file, about 2 gigs seemed to be being created, but for the life of me, I don't know where the file went (i.e. I don't know where (or even if) it was stored on my computer). Anyways, the process seems not to have worked. I guess, as you said, I'll need to purchase the Playback Component?
    Thanks for your help.

  • How to get rid of DVD interlace?

I encoded my source file in adobe media encoder. It is progressive 23.87 mpeg2-DVD and looks great on the computer but after Encore authors it to DVD, I put it in my DVD player and it looks interlaced with jagged edges especially with movement. It's not horrendous but I would like to get rid of the interlacing probelms if I can. I already tried and used media encoder to make my source file interlaced at 29.97 but once through encore it looked worse.
I know that NTSC DVD's are 29.97 interlaced but professional DVD's do not have the interlace issues that I am having. How do I get rid of the interlacing? I have already changed my transcode settings and quality presets. I did one for 23.97 progressive and the other for 29.97 interlaced lower field both with matching export source files. What can I do to maintain a quality image and get rid of the interlacing?

    Try this:
Select a Widescreen MPEG2 DVD preset in the AME.
Make sure to select Maximum Render Quality in the Video tab settings
Import the M2V and WAV files as a timeline into a new En project.
Make sure the Project panel shows the M2V file as "Don't Transcode"
Author and burn a disc and test in a hardware DVD player.
If the resulting video has any blocking artifacts they can be fixed with bit rate adjustments.  You're looking for jaggies and/or combing artifacts.  Hopefully there won't be any.
Also make sure that your playback pipeline is appropriate for DVD -- either test on a SD CRT or make sure your DVD/BD player or HDTV has acceptable upscaling quality.  If the player or the TV don't upscale well, then nothing you can do will fix that.

  • How to get a mini-dvd out of drive

I'm sure this has been asked dozens of times, but I can't find it on here---maybe someone can point me in the right direction. My kids put a mini-dvd from our camcorder into our slot-loading drive. I know this is a big no no, but is there any good way to get it out? Thanks.

The best you can hope for is to try and shake the disc out of the optical drive, but it's not likely to work. You'll need to take the computer in for service in order to get the disc safely removed.

    Hi hatbrox,
Check the setup in the proceeding directory [assuming if it still exists after the upgrade]:- c:\swtools\apps\cbed\SilentSetup.cmd
It's always a good idea to backup C:\SWTOOLS before installation of any OS on your thinkpad in advance.
    Hope it helps.

  • How to get dvd movies onto ipod with windows

Okay, I have finally figured out how to get movies from DVD to ipod for windows users, and it's free, with no watermarks. It involves a 2-program process. First go and download Videora Ipod Converter at http://www.videora.com/en-us/Converter/iPod/
Then download DVDFab Decrypter at http://www.dvdidle.com/free.htm
Now after you have installed these onto your computer:
    1. Insert the DVD into your disc drive.
    2. Open DVDFab and open the DVD folder, video_ts or whatever it happens to be
    3. Select your target destination for the files to be saved
    4. Click start to begin copying the DVD.
    5. Once everything is done being saved open videora ipod converter
    6. Go to setup and select the one click profile which size of video you would like and the output of the files
    7. Go to convert and select new transcode video, find your video file and select open
    8. Wait for the file to be completed transcoding
    9. Open itunes and select file, add file to library, find the file(s) and select okay
    10. Most of you should know what to do form here

For anyone who wants to get up and running, these are the settings I use for Videora.
After days of experimenting, I settled on the settings below which seem to give a good balance between filesize and quality. There will be a bit of blockiness in the dark shadows but if it's too much, just increase the 'bitrate'. Experiment with a short video, but make sure the video you experiment with is very high quality or you won't know what is or isn't down to your settings.
Again, don't use h264. Only Quicktime Pro has h264 nailed. You may be able to get some things to work in h264 but more likely, you'll be watching a movie and it will suddenly stop, or your iPod's hard disk will start munching away to a black screen. mpeg-4 works fine in Videora, always. No problems.
