How to get a brush preset to lay behind my picture

I have water wing brushes and I want to get the wings behind a person in the picture so that they are not going over the top of the image. I thought it was the "behind " option but I could not get that option to work. Could someone please give me an answer on this.

I tried this method but could could never really get the wings as dark as I wanted The only way I could see to adjust is using opacity on both levels and I could never find the right mix. when the wings wouls start to get as dark as I wanted they would start bleading through. Also I'm sure CS4 or 5 has to be more advanced than this, I just dont know the tricks as I'm a mew learner. I know there is an option on brushes called behind and I think by accident I even got it to work once and it did paint behind and not on the person in the picture. But never again. Also my picture is always locked unless I open it as a smart object, Maybe this is where the problem lies. It is very frustrating, I have come so close to what I want just experimenting. Any further suggestions would be most appreciated. Even help on adjusting the layers.

Step 1. Paint two black dots close to each other of any size. Bigger the better for higher quality.
Step 2. Crop entire image to only include those two dots.
Step 3. Edit >> Define Brush Preset...
-Name your brush preset whatever you want, ex: "Highway"
Step 4. Select Brush tool from Tool Bar, and then drop down your brush type. Scroll to the very bottom and your new brush type should be at the far right bottom.
Step 5. Select the brush. Paint with it!
Tip: If you want to draw a straight line with it hold down shift while painting up, down, left, or right

You need to add both parameters. You should create the parameter, then specify a direction. In C# (taken from a script that executes an anonymous block, but will work for your purposes)

Hi All,
I want to get the complete list of pdf presets, the same"Adobe PDF Preset" list which we see in "Save Adobe PDF" dialog.
I am unable to find any method to get this list programatically.
Can anyone please point me in the right direction ?
Is It feasible/possible to get list programatically ?
I am able to get the list in Indesign using "IPDFExptStyleListMgr" interface. Do we have its counterpart in AI as well.

I am not sure, if PDF Preset Folder remains same universally. Is there some preferences user can set to changes preset folder path ?
If not than I suppose, I can do this . Though Drawback with this approach is, It will requires iteration on two folders, first on All User's App folder than on current login user's App folder for custom presets. Also I need to write different code for both Win and Mac.
I was looking for some better approach. Don't AI provide some API for this simple task ?

How to get roto brush back

I'm very new to After Effects. I've been following a tutorial in using the Roto Brush to blur a TV screen in a video. After selecting the areas I wanted with the roto brush, I ran a gaussian blur effect.
The tutorial had me create a duplicate layer and delete the roto brush effect from that duplicate.
When I previewed what I had done, the effect wasn't blurred enough in parts, so I figured I had to go back and refine the roto brush selection.
So I used Edit>History to step back to before just before I created the duplicate layer, but after I created the roto brush selections.
Except now I don't see the areas I selected with the roto brush tool outlined as they were, even when I've selected the roto brush tool.
Am I missing something? Can I get my roto brush selections back, or do I have to do it all over again?

It happened again, and this time, clicking the Toggle Alpha Boundary button isn't helping.
I remained stepped back before I created the duplicate layer and I adjusted my roto brush selections in the entire clip.
The tutorial I'm following said to duplicate the layer, which I did, then delete the roto brush instance from the bottom layer.
Then it said to apply the effect I want (Gaussian blur in my case) to the top layer. I set it at 65 which worked great yesterday. But today, nothing blurred.
So I tried to find my roto brush selection, but I can't get it to turn on again, even though I am on the correct layer, in the layer panel (not the composition panel), with the roto brush selected. And using the Toggle Alpha boundary button does nothing.

Go to Window>Brush, click on the words Shape Dynamics and then select Pen Pressure for the Control under Size Jitter.
In the Paths panel (Window>Paths), right click on the path and select Stroke Path.
In the Stroke Path dialog check Simulate Pressure.

How to get an Airport Extreme to work behind a wired Router????!!!!!!

Hey all major issue I am at my inlaws and they have a cable modem going into wired linksys router in their basement where the cable comes in and then distributing out through the house ethernet to key areas. Recently they have gotten wireless laptops and want to setup their airport extreme off of one of these ports so they can sit out on their deck and use the net.
I tried the auto-configuration and get no internet connectivity, occasionally it comes through at like 4 k/s(using the WAN port, the Lan port gives no connection like it should). If I plug directly into the same port I get 8MB down and 1MB up, so I am confident its not the ethernet coming to the location.
Additionally, if i take the extreme downstairs and run it form the cable modem and do the autosetup it works beautifully as well.
So obviously the autosetup isnt working for the Airport running behind the router why? I have tried to muss with the settings, run it in bridge mode and such but to no avail.
Any advice on how to do this? The base is updated to its latest firmware 5.7.

I have been using an AEBS connected to one port of my D-Link Router for years. 2 months ago I have upgraded to OS 10.5 and have had no problems with having wireless computers connecting. I just decided to change my Security to WPA and after the Airport Utility (V.5.3.2) did the settings UPDATE, I haven't been able to connect via WIFI. I had all WIFI IP address be in the 10.0.1.1 range, and now I have tried everything I can think of to get it to work like I did but no luck.
I should mention that my router is set for static IP because of webcasting and other requirements.
I have searched and asked and can't solve the problem.

Reset your Brushes so you just have the default set loaded.
Set up a new brush using the Brush Presets panel. (Probably set Angle Jitter to 'Pen Tilt' but we don't know exactly what you are trying to achieve.)
Open the brushes panel, and click on the little cog icon, and then on New Brush preset. Give your new brush a meaningful name.
Last thing to do is 'Save brushes' in the same menu, and you new preset will always load with the default brush set. Or save it with a custom brush set. Whatever works best for you.

How to get HD presets in Premiere CS3?

I use Adobe Premiere CS3 under W7 and I would like to import, process and export movie clips in HD resolution (1920 X 1080).
The files to import are video files having a format .wmv or .mp4 with the above mentioned resolution and located on the hard disk.
When opening a new project I have the presets folders for DV-24P, DV-PAL, DV-NTSC and folder HDV which is unfortunately empty.
Looking In the Adobe Premiere Pro CS3 Program File I found a folder called Settings which contains a folder HDV with all the HD presets such as HDV 1080i30.prpreset or HDV 1080p25.prpreset.
How can I "move" these presets into the empty presets folder HDV in the program in order to access them?

N.B. So far I can import the 1929 x 1080 clips , but then they are processed and exported as 720 x 576 files hence loosing the original HD resolution.

Do you have a USB hard drive handy?
If yes, you need to make a full boot drive backup to that USB hard drive before changing anything
Hardware crashes or virus infections or simple software problems happen, so you should buy AND USE software to make a full backup of your hard drive to an external USB hard drive... plus, making step-by-step backups during a new install or major program addition makes it easy to go back a step if something doesn't work
This backup and then restore is, of course, only to the same computer with a new drive (or the same drive as long as you don't mind writing over everything) since doing a restore to a new computer won't work due to Windows and many programs having activation information that is keyed to your hardware (which is why Windows will force you to RE-Activate if you change very much hardware)

Image runs off of a bootable CD via Linux (the Zip you download includes a program to make the bootable CD) and it reads EVERYTHING on the drive, even the hidden registration information, so everything is restored when needed... and you may restore the image to a brand new drive in case of a crash, and not have to re-install anything
Please note that I own no part of Image, and I don't get a referral fee (that is just a plain web link) but I use the program and it has saved me a LOT of trouble when I had a hard drive die... and I was able to restore everything and not have to re-install or re-activate a single program, from Windows on up

The most likely solution is a bit strange, but there are enough posts and discussions about it, so I am comfortable recommending it . . .
What you want to do is to toggle Logic Pro 9 back and forth from a 64-bit application to a 32-bit application and then to a 64-bit application. The IK Multiedia virtual istruments are 32-bits, so they do not get analyzed and verified when you only run Logic Pro 9 in 64-bit mode . . .
The solution is to run Logic Pro 9 in 32-bit mode, which you do by right-clicking on the application; selecting "Get Info"; checking the "Open in 32-bit mode" checkbox; and then starting Logic Pro 9. Once you do that and everything loads, quit Logic Pro 9; and repeat the "Get Info" procedure, but this time uncheck the "Open in 32-bit mode" checkbox and then run Logic Pro 9 again, where this time it will be running as a 64-bit application . . .
Doing this apparently causes Logic Pro 9 to rescan the AU plug-ins, where during the 32-bit mode step it finds the various IK Multimedia virtual instrument plug-ins . . .
If you do some searches, you will find the information, which as I recall also is found in an Apple Support item . . .
Logic Pro 9: New or updated 32-bit Audio Unit Plug-ins sometimes are not available in 64-bit mode (Apple Support)

How to save tool presets as brush presets?

I have some tool presets that would be very useful, but I normally just go to brush presets, which i have organized and which provide greater flexibility. Is there a way to turn "tool" into a "brush"? Going through defining brush presets, forced me to adjust all kind of things, but as tool presets they are already perfect. There has to be a way to do it easier! Hope you can help.

I'll ad a giant AOL 'Me Too' to that Gene. I don't blame Lynda and Bruce when there is $1.5b on the table, but I think it a sad reflection on our times that a dot.com that has questionable worth to our society, can afford to pay so much money for a genuinely useful service like Lynda.com. Apparently they started with $20k and have built it up with no outside help, so they are sitting pretty right now.
My concern is that the focus of Lynda.com does not shift even remotely towards business type courses, and away from creative. BTW I am absolutely loving my Lynda subscription. It seems that no matter what the subject, if you ever get stuck on something, there is a world class course to put you straight. As regards Photoshop, I considered myself at least an expert, yet I have been able to find game changing new tips on almost a daily basis. Or sometimes just a better way of doing things. It absolutely helps to go into the expert courses with a good working knowledge, because it means you pick up the content straight away, and hopefully remember it.
Somebody was smiling down on me the day I was about to commit $250 for a year's subscription, and literally as I sat down at the computer, there was a ping to tell me a new email had arrived, and it turned out to be offering that same subscription for $150. I suspect the apparent coincidence was driven by my recent visits to the site, but if that email had arrived ten minutes latter, I'd have been down a $100. :-)

Select the brush preset icon. you can also access it by going to Window > Brush Presets.
This brings up the Brush Preset window. Click the down arrow on the right side, as shown below. Select "Reset Brushes". This should reset your brushes.
