How to get a new Access Point to be seen by the controller

Hello All,
I have a Cisco Series 4400 WLAN controller and I'm trying to connect a lightweight AP to the controller.  I have already assigned the switch port to use my wi-fi VLAN, and have connected the AP to the switch.  After a few minutes, the light on the AP goes from green to light blue (indicating it's serving clients).  Looks encouraging so far.
Here is where I am stuck...
When I log into he wi-fi controller to look for the Ethernet mac address of the new AP, I do not see its Mac Address.  I want to be able to rename the AP to reflect where it will be used,  but need to select the AP via its Ethernet mac address before I can make any edits like changing its name etc.
I've gone through the "monitoring" menu, selected "All" and still do not see it in their via its MAC address.  I also will select the "wireless menu" which lists all the AP's on my network, listing in order from on the longest running, to just powered on.
Is there something I'm missing like a "re-scan" that scan's all devices?
The  AP is an AP 1131 AG
Thanks,
Jon

For console connetion you need console cable i attached image of it so you know which cable we are talking about. Just connet eithernet side to the connector i think on 1131 console port is on the right if you seeing it form back. Plug other side of cable to a laptop on serial connetor and use windows hyper terminal to access your access point. Once you connected via console you should be able to see whats going on on the console. Here is a quick link for setting up console connection with correct settings.

  • How do i ensure the new access point is joined the controller or not

How do i ensure the new access point is joined the controller or not

To Verifying that Access Points Join the Controller or not there are two ways as below.
Please go through the step by step to find the APs joined state
When replacing a controller, you need to make sure that access points join the new controller.
Using the GUI to Verify that Access Points Join the Controller
Follow these steps to ensure that access points join the new controller.
Step 1 Follow these steps to configure the new controller as a master controller.
    a. Click Controller > Advanced > Master Controller Mode to open the Master Controller Configuration page.
    b. Check the Master Controller Mode check box.
    c. Click Apply to commit your changes.
    d. Click Save Configuration to save your changes.
Step 2 (Optional) Flush the ARP and MAC address tables within the network infrastructure. Ask your network administrator for more information about this step.
Step 3 Restart the access points.
Step 4 Once all the access points have joined the new controller, configure the controller not to be a master controller by unchecking the Master Controller Mode check box on the Master Controller Configuration page.
Using the CLI to Verify that Access Points Join the Controller
Follow these steps to ensure that access points join the new controller.
Step 1 To configure the new controller as a master controller, enter this command:
    config network master-base enable
Step 2 (Optional) Flush the ARP and MAC address tables within the network infrastructure. Ask your network administrator for more information about this step.
Step 3 Restart the access points.

    Hi Nassem,
    It looks like you ended up with a Lightweight AP (LAP Part#) instead of an IOS AP. This can be fixed;
Reverting the Access Point Back to Autonomous Mode
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/hw/wireless/ps430/prod_technical_reference09186a00804fc3dc.html#wp161272
You can convert an access point from lightweight mode back to autonomous mode by loading a Cisco IOS Release that supports autonomous mode (Cisco IOS release 12.3(7)JA or earlier). If the access point is associated to a controller, you can use the controller to load the Cisco IOS release. If the access point is not associated to a controller, you can load the Cisco IOS release using TFTP.
Using a TFTP Server to Return to a Previous Release
Follow these steps to revert from LWAPP mode to autonomous mode by loading a Cisco IOS release using a TFTP server:
Step 1 The static IP address of the PC on which your TFTP server software runs should be between 10.0.0.2 and 10.0.0.30.
Step 2 Make sure that the PC contains the access point image file (such as c1200-k9w7-tar.122-15.JA.tar for a 1200 series access point) in the TFTP server folder and that the TFTP server is activated.
Step 3 Rename the access point image file in the TFTP server folder to c1200-k9w7-tar.default for a 1200 series access point, c1130-k9w7-tar.default for an 1130 series access point, and c1240-k9w7-tar.default for a 1240 series access point.
Step 4 Connect the PC to the access point using a Category 5 (CAT5) Ethernet cable.
Step 5 Disconnect power from the access point.
Step 6 Press and hold MODE while you reconnect power to the access point.
Step 7 Hold the MODE button until the status LED turns red (approximately 20 to 30 seconds) and then release.
Step 8 Wait until the access point reboots, as indicated by all LEDs turning green followed by the Status LED blinking green.
Step 9 After the access point reboots, reconfigure it using the GUI or the CLI.
    From this doc;
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/hw/wireless/ps430/prod_technical_reference09186a00804fc3dc.html#wp161272

Delete the existing iCloud account on your phone, then setup a new iCloud account with your new Apple ID. Also, Settings>Store...tap the ID shown...sign out...now sign back in with your new ID.  You will see Delete Account on you phone under iCloud Account.

Your post indicates a very old iOS version.  I don't know if it would work there, but in the current iOS (6.0.1), you can turn off auto-correction at Settings > General > Keyboard > Auto-Correction (off).
You can manage your Apple ID at: http://www.apple.com/support/appleid/

  • How do I setup an Access Point/Repeater on FIOS

I have a MI424WR-GEN2 router/modem from Verizon.  Since Verizon installed it in the basement, my wi-fi at various other points is not the strongest. I do have cat-5 in various parts of the house. So, I'd like to add one of my old routers to the network and have it act as an access point or repeater (not sure if there is a difference between the two designations).  I'm technical enough to be dangerous and do damage but I wasn't having any luck doing this ... for one, I can't even figure out how to access it to program it since 192.168.1.1 is the verizon router.
I have three choices for a device:
    (1) Linksys WRT54GS
    (2) Linksys BEFW11S4
    (3) Netgear RangeMAx DGND3300 (my preferred choice because it has B/G/N as options)
    Help please!
    Thank you!

Ok, it is working, more or less. But there seems to be a connectivity or reliability issue. For some reason, and it seems to only be on my laptop (but perhaps because the others in my house aren't on engough and haven't noticed an issue?).
I periodically lose connectivity but the network is not down.  I turn off my laptop wi-fi, wait a few seconds, and turn it back on.
I suspect this is something to do with competing protocols ... I don't know, and Verizon didn't confirm, if their router support b/g AND n.  The netgear supports b/g/n.  Also, the Netgear is dual band. Right now, the netgear, as an access point, has both 2.4Ghz (11g) and 5Ghz (11n) SSIDs set to the same name.  Should they be different? In which case, do we need an additional wi-fi to recognize? It doesn't appear as if I can disable one of them.
For the time being, the netgear access point is right next to the laptop. COuld the proximity cause a problem? I've never had that issue before but trying to identify anything!
    Any thoughts?
    Thanks!

  • How to tell which lightweight access point is offline?

I may be missing something really obvious here, but is there a coherent way to tell which access point has dissociated from a Cisco controller? For example - i have a controller here with many hundreds of access points being installed. If i have say 500 access points associated and i unplug a random one, the "all APs" in the controller summary will simply drop to 499 total, not 500 total, 499 up and 1 down as i would have expected - it's therefore a bit of a nightmare to trace a missing access point when the number suddenly drops below what i am expecting based on the number i know are physically installed.
Hope that makes sense!!! Appreciate any guidance you guys may have!

    Several ways of doing this:
    1.  If you have a network monitoring tools like WCS/NCS/PI, then it is Cisco's preferred method.  You can enable WCS/NCS/PI to email alerts (personally, I wouldn't recommend it).
    2.  WCS/NCS/PI uses SNMP to poll the different WLC in your network.  You can craft your own to generate your own system (what we are doing now).
