How to get a Whinefree MBP?

Any suggestions on how I can get a MBP without the whine.
Like walking into an Apple Store and Checking one out before I buy, will they let me do that?

Give apple uk a call as they sorted me out with a replacement without asking too many questions. If you havent already read around the posts there's a couple of the things you could try first before you part with your MBP:
1. Reset the MBP power management unit (http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=303319) - didnt work for me but word has it that it may help!
2. Check out QuietMBP (http://www.red-sweater.com/blog) - its a software fix that inevitably reduces battery life, but ever so slightly. Plus it comes on when you first boot and you can customise the code to make it do less work if it solves the problem.
3. Mirror widget/photobooth etc etc, but these really are grubby fixes and you shouldnt be happy using these as permanent fixes.
So if your not happy with any of these and all else failing, get a replacement, but as i mentioned in a previous thread it is worth asking to KEEP HOLD OF YOUR MBP until the replacement arrives (when you have 5 days to then return it). Thing is Apple in the UK are guff when it comes to shipping as they all come from Shanghai, so consequently take another good 10 days after the intial 5 days/3-4 period - rubbish!
Good luck!

  • How to get sound from MBP to TV through thunderbolt to HDMI cable?

I have a Mid 2009 MBP and have been running it through to my Samsung TV for a while now via thunderbolt to HDMI but have only just wondered whether i can get the sound coming from my TV rather than the built in speakers on the macbook.
I have tried going to System Preferences - Sound - Output. but there is no option for display sound or thunderbolt...... i suspect it's because i have a rather old macbook but it doesn't seem like an option that would only come on newer models.

Don't worry about this post..... doesn't make sense. Mid 2009 models do not have thunderbolt ports nor do they support audio through HDMI : (

    Ok, thank's!
    I own one of these:http://www.motu.com/products/motuaudio/8pre/optical.html
It has 8 adat (optical) outs, do you know if it will work with all 8 or just 2 channels, or at all
since even if it's optical it is adat, well I'm a little confused about this.
The units mensioned with the cable was mostly portabel players.

  • TS4006 I was able to get a location on my stolen MBP but I didn't get the email notification in time to log into to iCloud to view the location, it is only viewable for 24 hours. Does anybody know how to get that info back? I've been on the phone w/Apple

    Hi,
Does anyone know how to get in touch with iCloud support directly? All iCloud support roads lead to CPU tech support. My stolen MBP finally came online and gave a location but I didn't check my email for a couple days, was sick, and iCloud only displays location map for 24 hours. Desperatly trying to regain the location info. I live in a small town so location info might actually lead to the recovery of my baby.

    Try:
    - Powering off and then back on your router.
    - iTunes for Windows: iTunes cannot contact the iPhone, iPad, or iPod software update server
    - Change the DNS to either Google's or Open DNS servers
    Public DNS — Google Developers
    OpenDNS IP Addresses
    - For one user uninstalling/reinstalling iTunes resolved the problem
    - Try on another computer/network
    - Wait if it is an Apple problem

  • How to get an N wireless USB adapter to transfer data faster that 54 Mbps

How to get an N wireless USB adapter to transfer data faster that 54 Mbps? I am running FIOS 10/2 and connected to a ActionTec  M1424WR router. Any help will be appreciated.

I have to ask the question, why are you in need of 802.11N speeds?  Are you transferring lots of files between other PC's on your network or are you simply connecting to the Internet.
Remember if your Internet speed is 10/2 which means 10 meg down and 2 meg up having 300 meg capability WLAN connection will not be noticeable.   Your bottleneck is your Internet connection of 10/2.

  • I have a MBP with service center for last 21 days. The issue is device doesn't boot up. They are replacing part by part logic board, hard disk, wires and still they need more time. No confidence over there service wing. How to get MBP replacement?

I submitted my MBP 2012 model to service center on
    1. August 12: They reinstalled OS. Took it back on 13th evening
    2. August 14: They did some hardware check and reinstalled OS. Took it back on 20th evening
    3. August 21: Stil with service center, they are investigating
    What service they are providing.
    Very bad experience with apple.

    After august 21:
They changed logic borad and told me that HDD is fine.
After few days I called back they told me HDD is faulty.
I do not know rather they do not know what is the issue.
Thats why I want complete replacement of MBP.
    Then they say about policies.
I want to get MBP replaced, as the warranty has expired on 28th.
I do not know whether they can resolve issue or not
The super advisors from apple team are also co-ordinating still it is taking too long.
So my question is I need a repacement, How to get it?

  • I have purchased itunes match but the cloud will not load on my ipad 4.the only music that will show up is stuff that i bought from the itunes store.any ideas on how to get this to work?

i have purchased itunes match but the cloud will not load on my ipad 4.it works on my iphone 5 & it originally worked on my ipad.the only music that will show up is stuff that i bought from the itunes store.any ideas on how to get this to work?

On the MBP, in iTunes, switch to Song view and enable the iCloud Status column by pulling down View > View options and selecting the option for "iCloud Status." Close the small window. Look for any tracks that have a status of "waiting." If you see several of them disable iTunes Match while holding down the Option key. Quit iTunes, wait a few seconds, then open it again and turn iTM back on. Let it compelete the scan. Wait until all tracks that are "waiting" have a status of either "matched" or "uploaded."
On the iPad, turn off iTunes Match then launch the Music app and let the contents clear out. Power cycle the iPad for good measure, then re-enable the service once all the tracks in iTunes have been processed.

  • Missing Templates in iphoto how to get them back?

I'm using Macbook Pro with OS X 10.7.2 , i have iphoto version 9.2.1 (628) , Now when i use email in iphoto and i want to use the templates so they are missing can someone help me how to get them back?

You'll need to reinstall iPhoto from the source it came from, i.e. the Software Install disk that came with your MBP or an iLife11 disk.  If the MPB came with Lion install you'll have to download iPhoto from the App Store.
To reinstall iPhoto  you'll have to delete the current application and all files with "iPhoto" in the file name with either a .PKG or .BOM extension that reside in the HD/Library/Receipts folder and from the /var/db/receipts/  folder,
Then install iPhoto and apply any needed updaters.
I may be presching to the choir here but in Lion the Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and hit the Enter button - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.

  • How will I download from MBP 17'' 2006 to MB Air 2012?

I was planning to buy a MacBook Air in the New Year but wonder how I will connect my MBP and whether all my MBP accesories will be obsolete. Is there an adapter that will connect from a firewire 800 to Thunderbolt? I have an iPad 2 and an Air printer, MB Air would allow me to use iCloud and be much lighter when travelling between Spain and the UK. If the MB Air is suitable I would then use my excellent MBP purely as a desktop. Hoping someomene out there knows the answer - ThanQ

ThanQ for that suggeation.  Can you please tell me if the earlier reported problems with the Apple USB ethernet adapter have now been solved and what sort of download speed/time I should expect to get with ethernet?

I'm a MB Pro beginner (after 25 years with PC). I have an Iomega ext HD, but how do get it indexed?, and it doesn't come up with any results I'm trying searches in Finder, and it says "searching Iomega drive" - but I don't think it's indexing. How do I force it to index?

Well I'm leaning the other way. I think my present MBP will be the last Apple product I buy.
With the way Apple is going, all New Mac computers are sealed unit that don't allow the user to upgrade them in any way. They are getting more expensive initially. They are impossible to fix, even by Apple. All the parts are either soldered to the Logic Board or glued inside the case parts. The add on warranty only covers manufacturing defects and is expensive. And to fix one out of waranty is close to if not more then a new system.
The only thing different in a Mac, and most other products Apple sells, is the operating system and the cases they come in. As for the OS both have their glitches and at this time there are no viruses that infect OS X. There is more software available for Windows. More choices as to what hardware you can use or upgrade to at a later date.
Mac computers are becoming large iPads or iPhones with built in keyboards.

  • What is bogon doing in my sidebar and how to get rid of it?

Out of the blue today in Finder's sidebar, in SHARED, just under the Time Capsule a new item popped up:
    "All..."
Selecting "All..." in sidebar shows in Finder's right panel as follows:
    under Name - bogon
    under Kind - Neighborhood
Restarting Mac, restarting Time Capsule, disconnecting and reconnecting cable modem - nothing helps, I can't get rid of it and I have no idea what it is...
Just booted my MBP and wife's MB - same thing in both...
It indicates that it is Time Capsule showing the "All..." bogon Neighborhood, not an individual Mac.
Have I been hacked? How to get rid of it, there is no eject next to it?

bogon just disappeared from SHARED on my iMac ... - although mystery remains as it still shows up in MBP ...

  • How to get screen content onto external VGA screen? Do have thunderbolt-VGA adapter but only get screensaver across

how to get screen content onto external VGA screen? Do have thunderbolt-VGA adapter but only get screensaver across

VGA and DVI do not carry sound.  Only HDMI.
Use a minidisplay-to-HDMI adapter.  Then when the TV is connected to the system use "System Prefences > Sound > Output" to select the TV for sound.
Or connect speakers to the output port of the MBP.

  • How do I charge my MBP on airplane using their USB outlets?

    Hello everyone,
I have to make a lot of work-related trips mostly flying within Asia or from Asia to Africa (and return).
While I am aware of the MagSafe Airline Adapter, I have actually never seen the required outlet anywhere close to my seat (well, loads of Ethiopian Airlines flights ;-)). However, I have noticed that more and more airlines provide an USB outlet next to the little TV screen in front of you.
Charging my iphone using the USB outlet is no problem, but now I am wondering how I could charge my MBP with this USB outlet, too.
Is there something that could connect the MagSafe Airline Adapter to an USB outlet or is there a different solution altogether?
    Cheers!

    Hey Fish,
I came here looking for answers, too, as I am also a frequent (economy) flyer and have been getting frustrated by the lack of electrical outlets on planes (or worse, non-working!). As your question went unanswered, I searched a bit more and found this:
    http://store.apple.com/us/question/answers/product/MD565LL/A/can-i-charge-my-mac book-through-the-usb/QUKUPXDK9A7KXHKJ4?po=0&so=oldest
That was my question, too, as I only ever manage to see USB ports in arm rests. So for now we are apparently SOL. Sorry to break it to you.

  • How I can keep my MBP nice and speedy?

I finally jumped out of my Windows and into a Mac. I have used a Macbook at work for 3 years with very little trouble. I am an educator who lost my job right after I invested in a Macbook Pro and it seems to FREEZE UP frequently. I have seen the "spinning rainbow wheel of death" more times than I can recall. I have had the machine exactly 1 month.
Someone mentioned to me that it may be my Office 2008; the scripts don't seem to play nicely. I am at a loss. I invested in this because I wanted less drama than my "Dell from ****."
Does anyone have any suggestions for how I can keep my MBP nice and speedy?
Is there a limit to how many applications I should have on the dock?
Should I keep everything off of the desktop?
I am also a web developer and I have been using:
    adobe CS4 web suite.
    Captivate
    Second Life
    Firefox (With many plug-ins)
    MAMP Pro
    ITUNES
    Office 2008
    Imovie
    Frequently.
I don't turn it off everyday.
    My system is as follows:
    Model Name: MacBook Pro
    Model Identifier: MacBookPro6,2
    Processor Name: Intel Core i5
    Processor Speed: 2.53 GHz
    Number Of Processors: 1
    Total Number Of Cores: 2
L2 Cache (per core): 256 KB
    L3 Cache: 3 MB
    Memory: 4 GB
    Processor Interconnect Speed: 4.8 GT/s
Maybe I can get some pointers to minimize this drama, so before I start screaming at Apple, I thought that I would check with my peers in this wonderful online community.
I am open to technical advice and personal philosophy.
Thank you for your help in advance!

Get Onyx. It has some automated scripts that keep your mac's performance really good.
Personally, I'd try using Onyx, if that doesn't help, just put your Ma OSX Install DVD inside, boot from it and install the OS again. All files and settings will be left intact (don't forget to update your system after installing it).
Make sure you have the latest Office version installed, as earlier versions are known to disable some system tasks, therefore making OSX unstable.
