How to get airplay working on macbook pro 2012

I have a Macbook Pro (Retina display) mid 2012 and am unable to connect to Apple TV using Airplay.
Under 'user preferences' 'displays' there is no option to activate airplay mirroring.
I have ensured all software updates are done.
iTunes is also current and airplay will work connecting via Apple TV to play music on TV speakers.
Both PC and Apple TV are connected to same wireless network, and same apple logon.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated

Thanks.
I decided that upgrading was the best option, and am now on Mavericks.
Airplay is working successfully.
Thanks for the quick response.  Most helpful.

  • HOW CAN I AIRPLAY FROM MY MACBOOK PRO

HOW CAN I AIRPLAY FROM MY MACBOOK PRO

The graphics chipset in pre-2011 Macs will not support the AirPlay feature. I guess Apple could have withheld the feature for everyone, or provided free graphic upgrades for all older Macs. Neither choice makes much sense. It's a shame, but the Mac and iOS products have a lot more going for them than this one feature.
AirParrot is said to work for some machines. I tried it on my 2008 iMac, and it left a lot to be desired

  • How to get iTunes to see MacBook Pro as 'Remote Speaker'?

I love Airtunes and streaming my music throughout my home with my iTunes Library. However, I'd love the ability to stream this music to my MacBook Pro at the same time that I'm streaming from my iMac to Airport extremes' throughout the house. I'm unaware as to whether it's possible somehow 'out of the box'?
I'm aware of airfoil, but was hoping there was a 'work around' to enable this using solely iTunes.
Thank you in advance for reply.

Nothing in iTunes or Mac OS X allows this. The only option is Airfoil.

  • How to fix my slow, freezing Macbook Pro (2012 version)?

Hi! I bought my macbook pro in Jan 2013, it is the Mid 2012 version. Since yesterday, it is running super slow, and freezes constantly. I've deleted a lot of files from my computer and transferred them to a usb to clear out some place on the disk. Still, the mac is lagging and color wheel shows up for nearly anything I do on the computer.

Boot into your Mountain Lion Recovery partition (hold down the command and R keys whilst booting) and use Disk Utility to both repair permissions (there will be some that cannot be repaired - you can safely ignore these) and then verify your hard drive. Repair if necessary.
The type of slowness that you write about can sometimes - sometimes - be caused by a failing hard drive. Let's just hope you pass the verify test.

  • How to get a revision D MacBook Pro in London, UK

I want ONLY revision D models, so here are few questions:
    1. are they available now in UK?
    2. if i went to the regent street apple store, can i actually open the package and test the machine (to make sure no overheat / screen issues / whiininine ) before I pay for it?
    3. Do they sell 7200rpm models in store? becoz that's the only upgrade i need atm.
    4. if i order online, can i specifically require for revision D models?
anyway... i just want to get precisly a Revision D model becoz Im spending quite a lot (to me as a student) and don't want to get a DEFECTIVE machine...
    many thanks.

As someone pointed out, don't refer to "rev c or rev d". That was posted on a blog, and it was from a second/thirdhand source, not from an official Apple statement.
A "rev" is a hardware spin. It costs hundreds of thousands, if not MILLIONS of dollars to rev a board. Not to mention, it takes weeks of testing to make sure a hardware fix is good enough to warrant spending the investment to spin a new rev of the board.
If a W8612+ board is any better than a previous one, it's likely Apple identified a bad batch of components and they've simply replaced that batch with better ones.
How else can I explain that both a W8607 and W8610 at my Apple store worked perfectly with no whines or heat problems?
None-the-less, when I visited my Apple store to buy my MBP, I kindly asked the person to find me a box with a W8612 or later serial number. And luckily, it also appears to run great.

  • How to get 5.1 sound macbook pro

I have plugged my mac to my 5.1  bose sound system but only the two left and right speakers are working, how can i get 5.1 sound

    Read here:
OUTPUT SURROUND SOUND FROM YOUR MAC: (simplest way)
(*Check first to see if your Mac is capable of outputting surround sound through the Mini Displayport. Most models before early 2009 are not able to output multi-channel audio)
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4241?viewlocale=en_US
    - Use a Mini Display Port to HDMI cable and connect the HDMI into the Blu-Ray/DVD HDMI input on the receiver and the Mini Display to the Mini Display Port on your Mac.
    - Go to System Preferences on your Mac. Click on the "Sound" icon. Then in the "Output" tab, select SONYAVAMP - HDMI
    - Then go into Applications > Utilities > Audio MIDI Setup. On the left side of the window select HDMI. On the right side it then should say "Source: SONY AVAMP"
    - Click the "Configure Speakers..." button in the bottom right of the window. Click the "Multichannel" tab. Then select "5.1 Surround" from the pull down menu. Click on each speaker to provide a test tone to make sure each is connect properly. Then click on "Apply"
    - Last set is to go into the DVD Player to test it. Go to "Preferences" and click on the "Disc Setup" tab. Under Audio at the bottom of the window select "Digital Out - SONY AVAMP" from the drop down menu for "Audio output" *You now have 5.1 Channel Surround Sound from you Mac!

Where it says 'Sony AVAMP", plugin your speaker system name.
