How to get beyond the error installing Shared Technologies in Photoshop Elements 12

I am trying to install Adobe Photoshop Elements 12 on my Dell Precision Workstation T3400.  During the installation, I get the message 'The installation process has encountered an error while installing Shared Technologies.  In accordance with the online advice, I renamed the OOBE folder OOBE.bak and ran the installation again.  Once more it stopped while trying to install Shared Technologies although it had created a new OOBE folder.  I deleted the new OOBE folder and also deleted PDAppFlex.swf and PDAppFlex-app.xml but agin the installation sopped when trying to install Shared Technologies.  I looked at the installation log file but found no reference to 'error' of 'fatal'.  I then tried moving all installation files from the DVD to the system drive but again installation stopped at Shared Technology installation.  I seem to have exhausted the website information .  How do I get over this Shared Technologies blockage?  Many thanks.  Glenn

Hi,
Thanks for the update.
If you can scan with the HP software then at least we know the system can see the scanner.
Can you try the organizer to see if that works any differently. Once you load the organizer, go to the Edit menu and select Preferences -> Scanner - see if that sees it.
Since you are on Elements 12, you still have the twain option available to try. See the following document which describes moving the twain driver.

  • Premiere elements 11 failed to install with the error about shared technologies

PRE 11 failed to install with the error "The installation process has encountered an error while installing shared technologies. Please restart your system and try again" all that does is uninstall everything and I have to restart agin with the same error and we go on. So far the only way it is working is at the point of the "error message" I run task manager and stop the installer, I know it's leaving files that should be removed by the installer, but it worked. This information was gained on one of the forums and seems to work. Yesterday was the first time I really used it fully and although I was able to create a project I cannot output it as a file (mpg), it starts to output ok then throws up an error and fails. As PRE 10 was still installed I imported the project (which amazed me) into PRE 10 and outputted as required with no error. All this may be due to something being wrongly installed or not being installed in PRE 11, I don't know. Can anybody help

  • When attempting to install trial elements 11get amessage error installing shared technologies

when attempting to install trial elements 11get amessage error installing shared technologies

    Hi hutchie4,
The error indicates that one or more of the following Shared Technologies failed to install:
    Adobe Player for Embedding
    Adobe Help
    Camera Raw plug-in
    Camera Raw profiles
    Adobe ExtendScript Toolkit
    Adobe XMP Panels
    Microsoft Visual Studio runtimes
To resolve these issues, use the Adobe Support Advisor (ASA) to analyze the installation log file. For instructions, see Analyze install logs with Adobe Support Advisor (ASA).
Note: If you are using a downloaded installer, or running the installation from the hard drive, the Shared Technologies can fail because of the installation path. Copy the installation files to a folder to the root of the drive, such as C:\PSE<versionnumber>Installer\, and rerun the installation.

  • How do I move the tags and catalogs from old Photoshop Elements on old computer to new computer?

I am trying to move my Photoshop Elements information to a new computer.  I have gotten the software installed, and the picture files moved over, but the tags and catalogs are not showing up on the new computer.  From looking online, it looks like there is a way to attach that information to the files on the old computer before transferring them over.  Ugh!  Hindsight!  Having already transferred over 35,000 jpg files to my new computer, is there any other way to move that information over without deleting all those files on my new computer and starting from scratch?

Even if you have the same folder structure, the organizer will find that the internal serial number of the drive is different and show all files as missing; you'll need to reconnect. That's why the backup and restore method is better. It also recognizes the need to upgrade (convert) the catalog format to the new version of Elements.
Use Backup, Restore to move catalog | Organizer | Elements 6 or later

  • Premiere Elements 11 gives error "encountered a problem installing shared technologies" and does not install.

I have Photoshop Elements 11 installed but Premiere Elements will not install due to the problem installing shared technologies. I would appreciate any suggestions as to how to fix the issue. I tried the installation several times.

On what computer operating system is your Premiere Elements 11 running on? For now I will assume Windows 7, 8, or 8.1 64 bit. Are you installing the program from
an installation disc or from installation files?
The Shared Technologies error is an old story that afflicts several versions of Premiere Elements on several different computer operating systems. My encounters with this error
have been using installation disc for the program involved.
There are numerous home remedies. The one that has been working for me lately and consistently has been the disabling of the OOBE Folder which is found
    Local Disk C
    Program Files (x86)
    Common Files
    Adobe
and in the Adobe Folder is the OOBE which you disable by changing the folder name from OOBE to OLDOOBE.
Please let us know if that worked for you.
    Do not give up.

  • Can't install Elements 12 due to error in installing "shared technologies."

Is there a definitive solution to installation problem of Elements 12, which toward the end returns an error message of "failure to install shared technologies?" I tried the suggested solutions such such deleted the .PPA files in the "Common Files" folder and restarting the computer just before the installation rolls back. None of them works. I am left with a piece of lemon worth USD 135.62 dollars.
    Thanks.

I FOUND THE SOLUTION! Sorry to say, I did this after disregarding the absolutely useless advise from Adobe's "experts" that led me nowhere. For the sake of users out there experiencing the same problem, here's how I did it.
    1. Installed Elements 12 until it got to the point where it the error message says "The installation process has met some error installing Shared Technologies. Please restart your system and try again."
    2. Well, I did not restart my system or allow the process to roll back. If you look at the desktop, the Elements 12 icon and shortcut already appears - it seems the installation is 99.99% complete, except that you cannot open it.
    3. While clicking the short cut, a message said something like "some device is missing. Download the latest Adobe Application Manager to open (or start) your trial software" or words to that effect. I did download the latest Adobe Application Manger  8.0.
    4. After downloading the Adobe Application Manager, I clicked the Elements 12 shortcut again and lo and behold it opened and is running beautifully. However, the warning in No. 1 above is still displayed. Don't ever click it or else the installation will roll back and you are back to zero. I simply shut down the computer and restarted. Elements 12 is permanently installed. Thanks to some DIY tinkering.
I am not sure though if this will work on other's computers.  And by the way, thanks to Adobe's experts for being nice.

  • I just want a refund; have given up installing Elements 12 due to error in installing "shared technologies"

This refers to Order No. 12642019825 for Adobe Photoshop Elements 12 which I bought online yesterday for USD135.62. My trial version worked all right - thank you for that. But after paying an arm and a leg for the licensed version - this from a third world country - I couldn't install the software due to a persistent error message regarding installation of "shared technologies." I've tried every suggestion in the Adobe forums and nothing seems to work.
Installation shouldn't be a burden imposed on a paying customer. You need a rocket scientist to install this lemon, maybe you need to hire the techies from the Jet Propulsion Lab who are able to fix bugs on the Mars rovers merely by zapping a signal from Mother Earth.
Refund me, please, I will buy it again if you can sell a easy-to-install product. And, hey, please answer me directly at [email protected]
    Thank you.
