How to get black and white effect in photos

Hi There,
I have always wondered how people get to add black and white effect in a photograph. Anyone with tips and/or videos to show how this is done?

Start with a raw image for detail, you can adjust anything here especially shadow and highlight detail, the second button). You can then use the adjustment layer of black & white. Start with auto, but how pull the sliders around is different for each phot. If you still want to enhance certain areas I suggest color balance (under the black and white) for shad, mids, highlights.

Under the Effects-Lumetri Looks-Desaturation choose a B and W effect. Then add the luma corrector from the Video effects-colour correction section. Adjust the brightness and contrast to get the effect you want.

Is there a way I can export a video in the Black and White effect

On Universal Access in the System Preferences there is that option to make the whole computer in Negative and when I use that on a video i've made it looks so much cooler but like it only stays like that if it is in black and white effect.

No, not with iPhoto. You'll need a 3rd party application like Photoshop Elements which can select areas in a photo and desaturate it, leaving the rest in color like this. This is another example of what you can do with it.

TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. How to set black and white only on Photosmart Plus B210a

I just buy my HP Photosmart Plus B210a at staples on 25. Usually I will just print some word documents，I want to set to use black and white only (black ink only), but can't find it.

I understand that you are looking to print grayscale from your iPad.
I have included 2 different documents about using Apple's AirPrint. The first one is from Apple and the second one is from HP. If you find that the option to print in grayscale isn't available with AirPrint then I suggest you check out HP's ePrint app. It gives you the options to print 'Color, 'Grayscale', or 'Black Only'.

Elements 7 tint black and white action in photo effects palette

I have somehow deleted my tint black and white photo effects atn file. Can someone with PSE 7 copy their tint black and white.atn file and send to me. I have the png and thumbnail files, but would like to get the .atn file without re downloading my software. The action is in the photo effect palatte. Will be very much appreciated. Debbie

If Photoshop manages color, you need to pick the correct profile for the printer/paper. The profile will be called something like e.g. <printer name> Epson Premium Glossy, if that's the paper you're using.

How to create black and white pdfs from autocad drawing

I am trying to create a pdf from autocad drawing with searchable text. Using the default acad pdf driver, it will create searchable text for only TT fonts with width set to 1.0. We use the monochrome plot settings so pdfs are all black, even if drawing was in color.
Using 'create pdf' from Acrobat Pro, Acrobat pro will create a pdf from the autocad drawing easily with all text searchable, shape fonts, TT fonts, no matter what the width. Fantastic. However, there is no option that I can see to create the pdf in just black and white. It creates the pdf in drawings original colors. How do I create a black and white pdf using acrobat pro? Thanks.

The only way to change the color of the printouts from your iPhone is through HP's free mobile app "HP ePrint Home&Biz". This is available in the App Store.
Simply download and install the app, choose a file to print from within the app, then press the icon at the bottom right of the screen that is a wrench and printer. This should then give you the option to choose the color output. Make your selection, press "Done", then press "Print."
If you are not seeing this option, you may need to setup ePrint for the printer and then register the app. This registration will also give you more functionality with the app.

How to have "black and white only" be the default print option

Just installed a new printer and would like to set it up so that the default print option is black and white only. How do I do this?

Can't find this anywhere. I'm brand new to Macs so I

Every printer is a little different so you may have to do some searching through the settings. I don't have an HP Photosmart C6100 here so I can't say for sure where the setting is for that printer.
The closest thing I have to that model printer here is an HP OfficeJet 6310
In that model you choose Paper Type/Quality
In drop down menu under Color you select Gray Scale
Then you can still save the preset as I described in my previous post.
If the C6100 is different than that you may just have to search through option pages and explore the drop down selections.
Which I could be more specific, but they are all a little different.

How to identify black and white images for dynamic collection ?

I would like to make a dynamic collection to quickly find my black & white pictures. It is very easy to do with your original files which have undergone a black and white (Grey) conversion under the developpement module : you have to specify "treatment - is - Grey level" in the dynamic collection description.
But what about original Grey levels images ? I have some scans of black and white negatives, and I would like to see them in the same collection.
I have tried to use EXIF metada, but none of them is related to this information (neither does IPTC). But such images are well detected as Grey levels images in the development module...
I don't know how to do (unless manually tagging images of course).
Does anybody have a clue for an automated solution ?

Welcome , I would be happy to provide you with more information about printing with black only on the Photosmart 7510. First, here is how to make sure you are changing the black only settings; In the software program that you are trying to print from, click File, and then click Print. (or Command+P)I have put a red box around the drop down in the image below, from this menu you want to choose Paper Type/QualityIn the Paper Type/Quality tab, click Color Options, (usually you have to click the little arrow, again outlined in red on the image)If you want color printouts, make sure that Greyscale is selectedChange the Greyscale mode to Black Ink Only or Black Print Ink Cartridge OnlyClick Print to try the print job again. Next you might want to read about how your ink supplies are used; The following information is from this article; Ink Usage in Inkjet Printers - it discusses several aspects of ink usage with HP printers. Ink is used in a number of ways throughout the inkjet printing process. In general, ink in an ink cartridge is used for printing documents, photographs and other such materials. Black and White Gray Scale Photos Are Dark When Exported from Indesign to PDF

When I print right from InDesign the black and white photos look great. However, if I print the exported pdf file, the black and white photos are much darker. Is there something I should be doing upon export so that they will look as they do in InDesign?

I have tried different settings in format and color space all with the same results. I'm sure it has to do with system not being calibrated. I'm not to computer literate so not sure how all this works. The other programs must go along with my computer and moniter settings where LR and Elements produce their own rendering independent of settings. Yes, I checked and Elements renders like LR. I found some other forums that discussed similar problems but with color rendering. HMMM, just tried something. In Picassa I switched to Linear Gamma 2.2 in display mode and the LR edited photos look correct. So it must be something along those lines being the problem.

Firefox not loading correctly, getting black and white lines and boxes onother network comp. it loads ok

Firefox loaded on laptop along with another computer on home comutor - on mine when firefox is selected it loads with black lines and boxes along with all titles it will allow me to use the programme. When I load the same programme on second computer it loads correctly.
This has only occurred this week.
does the resolution setting affect this?

Again, my original post specifically asks what else I can check for in prefs.js. I don't know what to look for. I suspect that something has hung-around somewhere, but don't know what to look for in the prefs file to detect it. No malware or anti-virus software detects anything other than the prefs.js file itself. Safe mode fixes the problem. So obviously something is starting up with FF in normal mode which is causing this, but no clue where/what to look for at this point.
