I am sorry if this sounds harsh, but the bare minimum to get decent performance out of FCP X is 8GB.
If you mac supports more, even better - go to 12GB or 16GB.
Also, the hard drive? Are you editing on the internal drive? That is also a bottleneck. The system drive should not also be used as a media drive; plus, depending on model, it may not be very fast drive to begin with.
You should use an external drive with a fast enough connection - USB3 or Thunderbolt, if possible; FW800 as a distant third. USB2 may also work, albeit it is a relatively slow connection.

I just purchased a Macbook Air OSX Mountain Lion 10.8.4 and trying to install Final Cut Studio 2, however the install disk wont open using a superdrive. How can I get my software loaded?

How to get Final Cut to honor EXIF data of photos? (Specifically: rotation)

I've got a ton of photos I need to drop into FCE. The camera automatically rotates the photos via EXIF data. When I insert them into FCE, it makes my portrait photos show up as landscape. Adobe Bridge, Photoshop, iPhoto... all honor the EXIF data and display the photos properly.
I've got a ~15 minute piece to put together, mostly photos of about 4 seconds in duration. Rotating them manually is extremely tedious.
Is there any way to get FCE to honor EXIF data?
On a side note, in FCE, is there any easy way to do ken burns effects? The motion editor is tedious compared to other apps.

So even Final Cut Pro isn't able to do this yet?
I just discovered that iMovie supports it if you import from iPhoto. I might just do these sections in iMovie, then export it, drop it into FCE... not using the XML feature, as I found it really doesn't work as advertised.
The Past Attributes function may work, thanks. I saw that in other threads too. Just wanted to make sure there wasn't some way to get the EXIF data to be read.

I have down graded from Mavericks as I don't have the 2k needed to upgrade all my other apps I need a copy of final cut pro 10.0.8, any ideas?

Never heard of the expression about 2k and still don't understand what it means. Is that 2k of English pounds or maybe 2k pounds of flesh?
For what it's worth, in 1968 I was doing Fortran programming on an IBM computer that had 2K of memory. The computer room was the size of a large living room and we had two card key punch machines, a 120 "line printer" (printed a whole paper-width line at one time), a CalCom half-step plotter (wrote graphics programs for that), and a computer console, probably around 4 to 5 feet wide with rows of red lights. One had to read what was happening in hexadecimal code.
The programs I wrote were in Fortran and were for transportation planning and the Transportation Engineers. The graphics programs were for Travel Time and Delay Studies and the output was on about 30 or 36-inch wide paper and included things like Average Speed, Running Speed, Stop Delay Time, Percentage of time Stopped, Coefficient of Variation, Standard Deviation, etc. Rand these for AM Peak, PM Peak, Off Peak, and for each direction.
Back then an Engineer typically used a slide rule and if they were lucky they had a simple desktop Calculator that did add, subtract, multiply, divide, and had glowing wire numbers about 3/4" high would cost somewhere around $500. I don't think gas cost even 30 cents a gallon at the time. The venerable HP 35 calculator didn't come out until later. I wanted one but then they came out with the 45 and finally the Commodore 64 came out. Got one of those and wrote a lot of Basic programs for business.
As for the 10.0.8, I do have a backup of that although I'll probably delete it now.

How to get Final Cut Pro X???

Your ISP timed out its session with the Apple server. Verify your internet connection, maybe even have your ISP check the lines. Even on a slower connection, it shouldn't take more than 1-3 hours tops.

Hello - I agree with several of the posts I've read that Linksys products are very Windows-centric and information for Mac users is sketchy.
Our household uses both Windows and Macs. It took a long time to get my Mac going via customer service on the telephone (and they take about an hour to answer). But we finally did get the job done and customer service was very diligent in helping solve the problem.
My question is: customer service gave me an IP number to enter for my Mac - I'm not sure how they came up with that number. I now have two more Macs in the household I'd like to get setup for our network.
Where or how do I get unique IP numbers for those two machines? I tried using the same one that I was given by LInksys, but then of course, those two machines cannot be ON at the same time - you are told the IP# xxxxx is already in use.
How does each Mac get its own IP number for the purposes of being on our wireless system?

It would be easier if you simply posted the IP address they gave you and which router model and version (check the label underneath the router) you have. Also the firmware version you are running would be helpful.
Some of the later WRT54G versions (e.g. v6) had some issues assigning Macs dynamic IP addresses. I guess that was your problem why the support assigned a static IP address instead.
For your other Macs you simply use the exact same settings exact for the IP address of the computer. A default Linksys routers uses the network 192.168.1.0/255.255.255.0. The router itself is 192.168.1.1. The DHCP server on the router assigns the addresses 192.168.1.100-149. All addresses 192.168.1.2-99 and 150-254 are available.
The Mac that is already setup should have an address in this range. You can choose any other address in this range for the other Macs. There is no rule whatsoever how you are supposed to assign them. You can use 2,3,4 or 10,20,30, or 13, 26, 39, or ... ;-)

No. Your older version will not run on your new Intel Mac using Rosetta. You must upgrade to 5.1.1., the universal version.

How to get Final Transform value for a 3DLayer after Camera is applied?

Hi,
I need to export final transform values (position, rotation, scale, etc) from a Layer. I used ProjDumper example to extract the values. But I'm having trouble if the Layer is a 3D Layer and there is a Camera, because the Camera will affect the 3D Layer and hence transform it.
For example, the initial position of a Layer is in the centre of the screen (let say position 100,100). But after I adds a Camera and change the Camera properties, the Layer is seen on the top left on the screen (0,0).
So given a Layer and a Camera, how can I get the final transform values of the Layer? In other words, how can I transform from Composition coordinate to Camera coordinate?

Given the Footage-type 3D Layer A & time T, I've tried the following combinations:
AEGP_GetLayerToWorldXformFromView(A, T, T, transformMatrix)
AEGP_GetLayerToWorldXformFromView(A, 0, T, transformMatrix)
AEGP_GetLayerToWorldXformFromView(A, T, 0, transformMatrix)
but they are all giving the same value as
AEGP_GetLayerToWorldXform(A, T, transformMatrix).
I've tried to change the Camera properties (focal length, zoom, etc) but AEGP_GetLayerToWorldXformFromView always gives the same value regardless of the Camera properties.
I also tried to put in the Camera Layer instead of footage-type Layer to the function, but the result of AEGP_GetLayerToWorldXformFromView is always the same as GetLayerToWorldXform, and the Camera properties doesn't affect the AEGP_GetLayerToWorldXformFromView function.
So my question is, why the AEGP_GetLayerToWorldXformFromView is not affected by Camera and why does it always give same result as AEGP_GetLayerToWorldXform?
