How to get handheld to overwrite computer

I'm considering the switch from my Palm Desktop to iCal but I noticed when setting the iSync up that it doesn't allow me to choose handheld overwrites computer.
1)What does it mean when I select merge data on computer and device? Seems I may end up with duplicates if the information isn't exactly entered the same. For example, if I used a lower case letter instead of an upper case in some fields.
2)The point is that I make changes on my Palm every day and I want those changes reflected in iCal. I want to ensure that what's on the handheld overwrites the computer.
4) I've read there's problems with fields not matching up. Am I just better off not making the switch?
3)What advantage is there to using the Missing Sync program?

The Sync Services framework, under which both iSync and the Missing Sync for Palm OS operate, has no provision equivalent to Palm's Handheld overwrites Macintosh conduit setting. That options simply is not supported under Mac OS X 10.4, though changes to the framework under Mac OS X 10.5 may provide such support.
To merge means to equate records at the field level. If iSync is unable to resolve the differences between records at the field level—using the Conflict Manager—then you will be asked to resolve them by picking one of two conflicting records to replace the other in the truth database, in which case that selected records will be pulled from it to other registered sync clients. Such differences as capitalization do not generally trigger this mechanism, though it is a good idea to enter data consistently. Such differences will not cause record duplication.
I should pause here to explain that it's not actually about the differences between the records stored in any application, device or server: all records which reside there are actually pulled from the truth database, a centralized single source of synchronization data which is invisible to you as a user. Each client pulls data from and pushes changes to this database, with the exception of iTunes, which cannot pull changes from an iPod, which is effectively a write-only device. Devices do not directly interact with each other. They interact only with the truth database.
Here is a link to a document which explains this behavior:
http://developer.apple.com/macosx/syncservices.html
Synchronization is not about overwriting data unidirectionally. It is about reflecting the additions, deletions or modifications to records made anywhere, everywhere, at the conclusion of a session.
It's not so much that fields don't match up, as it is that shortcomings in field mapping in the iSync Palm Conduit leave your data out of the process if, for example, an address is labeled something other than 'home.' If it's labeled 'work' or 'other' or you've selected a custom label, iSync and the iSync Palm Conduit ignore it.
This is not the case with the Missing Sync for Palm OS, which supports extended field labels, categories for contacts and calendars, contact photographs or icons, calendar colors, the synchronization of multiple electronic mail address, an IM address and a web URL in each record, with what are generally termed 'advanced' Palm devices: those running Palm OS 5.2 or later, including all currently offered Palm handheld organizers and smartphones.
The Missing Sync for Palm OS also includes conduits to synchronize AvantGo content, non-AAC protected media files with iTunes and images with iPhoto, a conduit and matching OS X application to synchronize memos, and simple device to computer time synchronization. None of these are supported by iSync. The Missing Sync allows you to configure conduit sets and group them as to synchronization interface - Bluetooth, or USB, for example. For WiFi enabled Palm devices, synchronization via WiFi is supported.

  • How to get Lion off my computer and go back to Snow Leopard???

How do I get rid of Lion and go back to Snow Leopard PERMANENTLY?
    I am not techno.
I need simple instructions with plain descriptions. I do not have any discs. The iMac came with Snow Leopard and I loaded NOTHING.
I should never have bought  Lion. It is awful.
Please someone tell me how to get Lion off my computer and go back to Snow Leopard.

Can I use time machine to restart the machine before the fateful day when I bought and installed Lion?
Yes, if you have a pre-Lion backup, but you need an installation disc.
Is there anything else I can do?  more RAM?
I don't know how much RAM you have. It must be at least 2 GB, or Lion wouldn't have installed. If that's all you have, you might get better performance by adding more. But from your description, I doubt that your problem is due entirely, if at all, to a lack of RAM. If you want to troubleshoot the problem, it will take some patience and effort, and you'll need to be in a calm frame of mind.

    That quickly!
Have you read for possible solutions over in the "More Like This" thread over here?----------------------->
When selecting passwords, make sure it's one that you will NEVER forget AND no one else can figure out.
Old school--- > Print it out & keep in a safe place.  A place that ONLY you know about AND never forget.
New school---> Get a password manager utility.  Highly recommend 1Password which is shareware.  Do a Google search for free password managers.

Hi. I just updated the Bluetooth on my iMac (OS X 10.5), but now each time I turn on my computer, this (annoying) message show up: Your computer's bluetooth firmware is up-to-date.
How to get rid of it?
I tried someone's suggestion to turn it off by going to  System Preference > Account > Login Items, but it's not listed there..

  • Hey sorry I just got my Iphone and i downladed a game on my computer from itunes store for my iphone 4 and i dont know how to get it from my computer to my iphone... can yall help

Hey sorry I just got my new Iphone 4 and i downloaded a game from itunes off my computer and i dont know how to get it onto my iphone 4 please help

There are two ways, you can sign into the app store from your iPhone, select upgrades at the bottom, select purchased, select not on this iPhone and download from their or plug your iPhone into iTunes, left click on your iphone in the left pannel, select the apps heading, select the game you downloaded and select sync at the bottom of the screen (make sure there is a check mark in the box beside sync apps). If the game is over 20mb you will have to be connected to wifi to download it directly on your iphone

  • Computer destroyed .. how to get purchases onto new computer

I'm pretty much computer illiterate except for surfing the internet and using Word.
I purchased several songs from itunes onto a computer which was destroyed (fire). I have a new computer (Latitude with Windows XP) and although I see all my old purchases listed when i look up my account, I don't know how to get them onto my new computer.
    Can someone help me? Thanks.

Click here and fill out the form to ask for a free redownload; if your request isn't granted, you need to purchase the songs again to get them back.
Apple pays the copyright holders for each download from the iTunes Store other than podcasts and album artwork.

  • How to get voice memo to computer, without sync u Iphone with pc library

okay, what i want to find is how ( and there better be a way, couse i am ****** ), how can i get my voice memo from iphone to computer. I have a very important lecture recorded, the issue is that now i am using a different laptop and my iphone is not sync with my new laptop's itunes library.
I was using itunes 9.1 or smth, and when i first connected my iphone, after recording memo ( to my new laptop ) it wrote a new voice memo is detected or something do you want to copy it, i pressed yes, and it copied the voice memo, i listened to it and then i deleted it, because i thought that the sound quality was better listening on iphone through the headphones then on laptop, but now i need to mail, that voice memo to my friend. That lecture is an hour long so i can't mail through iphone or mms, and when i connect my iphone to itunes the lecture does not appear as new and it doesn't offer to copy it to pc. So is there anyway to get the voice memo to my pc. ( i tried deleting itunes and reinstalling, because i thought, that maybe the reinstalled itunes would detect the voice memo as new, but it didn;t ( **** you apple with your leftovers ... )
Anyway, i really need help with this, hope apple technical staff will be able to answer it, though i doubt they will ...
Anyway, any help is appreciated, thank you in advance guys.
p.s. i can't sync my iphone with new laptop's itunes library because voice memo would be deleted then.
    Please help

You'll need to use third party software to extract the voice memo from your phone. You are correct in that since you deleted the memo from your itunes library, it will be deleted from your phone if you do sync:

  • How to get mail from old computer to new in one place?

I've had lots of trouble merging my data from a G4 iMac to a new iMac. Now my problem is mail.
After the first Migration all was OK with mail. Then, because of other problems, I had to erase the entire new iMac. In doing so I lost about 10 days of mail. Now I have some new mail in the new Mac and lots of old mail in the old Mac and I can not get them together.
The new Mac has two POP folders in the Mail folder in the users Library. One has messages from 12/09 to 3/24/10. This one is named after an account I had 3+ years ago. The second POP folder has messages from only 3/29/10. It is named with the present account. Neither has the current messages that are in the inbox of Mail now. The current messages are from 3/29/10 until today but I can not find them in a folder, only by opening the mail program.
The mail prefs have been altered also. I had a major problem with a pref causing trouble ejecting disks and forbiding the Mac to start. All prefs were trashed. (I think I can find them, I kept them in folders rather than trashing them. However, there are several of these folders as I had to trash and restart several times.)
How can I get all my mail back together into one current mailbox?
    Thanks.
    Geoff

Thanks for this info. I wish I had know this before I migrated. And I wish the Mac sales person had know. And I wish the folks at Mac support had known. Or perhaps with so many experienced folks not knowing could it be controversial?
Be that as it may, the migration was done (several times) the new computer was non-functional but now seems to be OK. All I want now is to get my old email (from the old Mac) together with the new email (The stuff I've collected since being on the new Mac). That didn't work with the migration and getting all this straightened out has taken long enough that there is a collection of new email.

  • How to get song from one computer to another

i have got a ipod touch 8gb and it is refurbished so it is the oldest software. so i am wondering if i can get all 1000 songs from my pc to my laptop because i used my pc to get songs but ii bought ipod touch software 2.5 or 2.2 whatever it is called how do i keep my songs on the ipod and get the new software or take the songs and put them on the laptop then sync them back to the laptop .

    Question1: > josh215625 wrote:

Updating your iPod's software, whether a major update or not, will re-sync the music to it from the computer after the software is finished installing.

Unless the music is bought from iTunes, then you won't be able to transfer it without third-party software.
You won't be able to transfer music that wasn't purchased from the iTunes Store using an iPod Touch because the Ipod Touch (First-Generation anyway, as far as I know) doesn't allow disk use.
I do not know of any third party software that is completely free and provides this ability through its demo.
Here is an article from Apple that you can use if you have any other kind of iPod available to use that allows disk use:

  • How to get ipod songs on computer

My old computer crashed, so i had to get a new one. All my ipod songs that were on itunes got deleted. How can i get them back and put them on my iphone?

If the songs are on your iPod, you won't be able to use iTunes to transfer song files from iPod to computer (except for songs purchased by you from the iTunes Store).  However, there are third-party utilities that allow transfer from iPod to computer.  If you do a Google search on something like "ipod transfer," you should get some links.
Once the song files are on your computer, add them to the new computer's iTunes library, then sync it to your iPhone.

  • How to get InDesign CS5 on computer after Aldus Pagemaker and Adobe Pagemaker disks destroyed byfire

More than 2 hours with "help" jackasses who can't speak English - and hang up or cut you off.
Have InDesign CS5. Had Aldus Pagemaker and then Adobe Pagemaker 5 and then 6. They were destroyed in a fire. Can't register the CS5 without the numbers. One of the Adobe "Help" types said they would email it to me - and that has NOT happened. Anothr told me I can't use it and have to get CS6.
Another told me it was easy - and then cut off the phone.
The three others I have talked with have been worse.
How do I put this damn program on the computer???

If your copy of Pagemaker is registered you can look up the serial number yourself on Adobe.com.  You can find directions on how to do this at http://forums.adobe.com/message/3987968#3987968.

how do I get the music from my computer onto my ipod?

If you  have iTunes 11 turn on the Sidebar. Go to iTunes>View and click on Show Sidebar. You can also do a Crtl+S to show the sidebar. The sidebar is where Devices appears. and Control+B to show the Menu bar
To import music into your iTunes library on the computer go to iTunes>Help>iTunes Help>Add items to iTunes and follow the instructions
To sync to your iPod go to iTunes>Help>iTunes Help>Sync your iPod.... and follow the instructions.

  • How to get Elements from old computer to new?

    Hello,
I bought elements last year sometime for my ibook, but just recently upgraded to an imac. I would like to get elements on my new computer but can't figure how to.
I also can't seem to find my serial number anywhere.
    any suggestions?

You will need to reinstall it. Do not attempt to bring it over with migration assistant, since PSE is far more complex than a normal neat mac app package and the MA isn't programmed to find alll the bits and bobs. If you bought PSE as a download, go to the main page of adobe.com and look for My Adobe and work your way through the links there and hopefully you'll still have a download link. If you registered it you will also find your serial number there, regardless of whether you bought a disc or a download.
