How to get iDVD

My computer crashed a few months back and I lost everything.  My external hard drive also crashed.  Sad day for my movies and pictures!  Were able to save some but noticed that I did not have iLife any more.  I rebought iMovie and iPhoto on the app store but I cannot seem to find how to buy iDVD.  I make a movie for my kids every year for them to keep.  Need to finish 2011.  Any suggestion how to get it?

Reinstall iDVD from the Applications DVD that came with your Mac.
If you no longer have it or your Mac shipped with Lion with no Applications DVD then buy iLife and install iDVD: http://www.amazon.com/Apple-MC623Z-A-iLife-VERSION/dp/B003XKRZES/
iDVD is no longer available directly from Apple.

  • How to get iDVD on macbook pro retina display without buying disk

I just bought a new MacBook Pro and I was wondering how I can get iDVD on it without having to buy iLife again.

If you already have iDVD 7 on an install disk use that. If not, you will have to find iLife 8 or later on eBay or Amazon.

  • How to get idvd updates

I have idvd 4.0.1 and want to update the latest version, but can't figure out how to get it.
    Any ideas??

If iDVD was not preinstalled on your Mac you'll have to obtain it by purchasing a copy of the iLife 09 disk from a 3rd party retailier like Amazon.com: ilife 09: Software or eBay.com.  Why, because iDVD (and iWeb) was discontinued by Apple over a year ago.
Why iLife 09 instead of 11?
If you have to purchase an iLife disc in order to obtain the iDVD application remember that the iLife 11 disc only provides  themes from iDVD 5-7.  The Software Update no longer installs the earlier themes when starting from the iLIfe 11 disk nor do any of the iDVD 7 updaters available from the Apple Downloads website contain them.
Currently the only sure fire way to get all themes is to start with the iLife 09 disc:
This shows the iDVD contents in the iLife 09 disc via Pacifist:
You then can upgrade from iDVD 7.0.3 to iDVD 7.1.2 via the updaters at the Apple Downloads webpage.
Export the slideshow out of iPhoto as a QT movie file via the Export button in the lower toolbar.  Select Size = Medium or Large.
Open iDVD, select a theme and drag the exported QT movie file into the open iDVD window being careful to avoid any drop zones.
Follow this workflow to help assure the best qualty video DVD:
Once you have the project as you want it save it as a disk image via the File ➙ Save as Disk Image  menu option. This will separate the encoding process from the burn process.
To check the encoding mount the disk image, launch DVD Player and play it.  If it plays OK with DVD Player the encoding is good.
Then burn to disk with Disk Utility or Toast at the slowest speed available (2x-4x) to assure the best burn quality.  Always use top quality media:  Verbatim, Maxell or Taiyo Yuden DVD-R are the most recommended in these forums.

  • How to get iDVD application back on my computer

I think I might of messed up, because now I'm not showing iDVD in my applications any more. When I go to down load a newer or the same version I had it says "An eligible iDVD application was not found in /Applications"
What do I do? How can I get iDVD application back on my computer, back in Applications?

    Thanks

the files you see for (free) download are just updates, they need an existing copy of the app on your drive...

  • How to get iDVD on new Mac.

Just bought a new Macbook air 11" running on Os X 10.7.2 and a superdrive so i could burn DVD's.... but no iDVD!
I have it now and it works perfectly....after a little research.
This is where i started, very helpful:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=my12sf_2TFI
You will need to find a mac (yours/family/friends) that do have iDVD. Enable "file sharing" in system preferences on your mac and the mac with iDVD....this will help if you've got problems doing that:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qUThAcIBWfQ
So i did everything as per the first youtube clip however i encountered some problems:
    1) couldnt find Library and thus application support. Found it was a hidden folder (press shift/command/g to get "go to folder" and type ~/Library and its all in there)
    2) still could not transfer themes
So what i did was download some free themes from www.dvdthemepak.com/
    After doing this iDVD worked!
Click on the grey themes below those that are available and iDVD autamatically updates them.
To get the themes that were in the original files of iDVD, i went to application support (directions above) and found that an iDVD had autimatically been added. I simply transfered the contents of the folder iDVD 6 (as per the first youtube clip) into this autimatically created folder.
Very long winded i know, but saves buying iLife and handing over more unnecessary $$$ to the very same people that removed iDVD in the first place.
    Stickin it to the man!!!

It works; you need to buy an iLife 08 or newer DVD and perform a custom install.

  • How to get iDVD Menu to startup?

I created an iMovie, sent it to iDVD to create a menu for the movie. When I place the dvd into the player to watch it on my TV, the movie just starts and doesn't show the menu I created with iDVD. Any suggestions on how to fix this or why its happening?
    Thank you

    Go to the Map mode
and make sure there's no item in the Autoplay bin at the left:
If there is drag whatever's in the bin out and try again.

  • How to get iDVD (missing in Lion) if you don't live near an Apple Store?

My brother in law bought the new MBP last week. iDVD is no longer included in iLife.
He does not live anywhere close to any Apple Store. What's the best way for him to get the missing software?

Try the online Apple Store or do a Google search.

  • I have a new macbook pro and just made a video on imovie and it asked me to put it on idvd but there is no idvd listed as an option. How can I get idvd?

I have a new macbook pro and just made a video on imovie and it asked me to put it on idvd but there is no idvd listed as an option. How can i get idvd. it doesn't seem available

Since Apple has stopped supporting and offering iDVD you'll need to purchase the iLIfe 11 disk from a 3rd party retailer like Amazon.com: iLife 11 which will include iDVD 7.

  • How do i get iDVD on my macbook pro?

How do i get iDVD on my macbook pro?  I cant find iDVD in the search box or in finer.  Why would the macbook install imovie without installing iDVD too?  I need to burn my video off of iMovie so i need iDVD to do that for me.  Ive tried downloading iDVD for free on websites but it didnt work, it's not compatible. I searched th eapp store whish is on the macbook but all it has is ilife'11 which only has iPhoto, iMovie, and Garageband but no iDVD.  I don't know what else to do.  I cant find IDVD anywhere.

    howdy,
You have to buy the whole package from apple.com.
    Notice iWeb also missing.
Rumor that individual "titles" will be available but no more revs. Product about to go to ga ga (Lady GaGa?) land not to return
N.B. iDVD and iWeb not revised in latest offering.
    Let 'er rip and...
    cheers

  • How do I get idvd on my computer? It did not come installed even though I have ilife

How do I get idvd on my computer? It did not come installed even though I have ilife? Also, no operating system dvd came with my computer. I have had it for 5 months so its quite new.

iDVD is no longer developed or shipped by Apple. You can purchase an iLife 11 disk (if you can find one) or purchase an alternative DVD authoring app.
SInce 10.7 should you need to re-install you do so via the Recovery partition and/or the App Store.

  • How do i get idvd onto my iMac

How do i get iDVD on to my mac

The current Apple thinking is that the entire world has access to fast broadband and wants to distribute home movies to friends and relatives via download (iCloud) rather than mailing them a DVD. The fact that in reality not all users do, has so far had no effect on this policy. If you scream and shout loudly enough down the phone Apple may send you a free copy of iDVD. That worked for some, but is now said to have been withdrawn by Apple. Also, you can complain bitterly here, perhaps suggesting that Apple could have provided a choice between using iCloud and burning DVDs:
    http://www.apple.com/feedback/
Whilst Macs with a Superdrive continue to be able to burn video DVDs, the software for so doing, iDVD, is no longer included in the iLife bundle that comes with OS 10.7 Lion (which also omitted iWeb) or will come with OS 10.8 Mountain Lion. And it is no longer included in the iLife 11 from the online Apple Store: http://www.apple.com/ilife/. Your only solution is to look on Amazon or eBay and try to get an older version that includes iDVD.
However, the vastly more expensive FCPX can burn a DVD without iDVD or DVD Studio Pro involvement, but lack the themes etc of iDVD. Also, of course, there is Roxio Toast.
