How to get Lion 10.7 on a new Mac Pro 6,1 (Early 2013)?

Hi everyone,
I'm considering an upgrade to the new Mac Pro (6,1 -- Late 2013, i.e. trash can Mac).  It's a huge expense and pivot in terms of hardware and workflow for me.  But one thing I'm trying to exclude from the equation is having to upgrade my OS.  I have a lot of third party software that I'm afraid will bug out on 10.9 (or 10.10 depending on when I purchase this).  I've been humming on Lion 10.7.5 for some time and would like to keep it that way.
I had the thought of running my Boot Disk to a Bootable backup drive via something like Carbon Copy Cloner.  Then, upon purchase of the new system, boot from that external drive, re-partition the internal SSD on the Mac Pro, and run that boot disk back over to the SSD.  Any reason why this would not work in any one's opinion?  Has anyone actually tried this yet?
Thanks all!

Actually just had a thought.  Prior to purchasing a new Mac Pro, what if I backed up my Lion 10.7.5 boot, then upgraded my current boot to Mavericks.  Then upon purchasing the new Mac Pro with Mavericks already on it I could just do what I previously mentioned --- run the boot over to the SSD.  Then I don't have to re-install any software.
Thoughts?
You won't be able to boot Lion on a new Mac Pro.
If you migrate your info from the old computer, it will not take the OS stuff.

  • How do I speed up Lightroom on my new Mac Pro (2013)?

I have tried everything suggested in the forums like running imports in parallel, etc., and all my data is on the super fast built-in PCI-Express SSD of the Mac Pro. However, I have numerous speed problems with Lightroom 5.3 (latest version) when importing and working with photos.
Right now, here is what I am doing
    * Performing three parallel imports for maximum speed as suggested in September, 2013 (to supposedly boost input from 25% CPU to 60% on a multi-core machine).
    * Buildling 1:1 previews and all the other suggested official Lightroom Performance tips
    And what I am getting:
    * Between 11 to 15%  CPU utilization, even when running imports and building previews in parallel.
    * Data being read at only 2.5 to 6.5 MB per second.
    * When I look at images even after the previews have been built, I see a sharp image for about 1/100th of a second, then it blurs for about 3/4 of a second, then it sharpens up again in about one second, as if Lightroom is redeveloping it again despite having a 1:1 preview fully built.
To my workflow, this is horrifically slow. I am tasked to go through about 5,300 sports photography images in an hour if possible, many taken at over 10 frames per second with a 1D X. To do this efficiently requires being able to INSTANTLY see the exact sharpness of a photograph, not being blurred for a full second, so that I can pick out the sharpest image from a burst of many images of each top play.
I love the features of being able to flag/unflag with P and U, star with 1-5, go full screen with F, zoom with Z, crop with R, etc., but the productivity potential that those fantastic keyboards shortcuts have is being utterly defeated by the fact that Lightroom is going SUPER slow even on this brand new 6-core Mac Pro. It literally is much slower than using Picasa or FastStone on a cheap Core i3 laptop with a regular HDD.
How can I configure Lightroom to use all six cores and more of the hard drive speed to speed up my workflow?
Obviously, Lightroom should be able to do much better if it were using more than 15% of the CPU and more than 1% of the SSD capability.
For me this is a SERIOUS problem and is preventing my new Mac Pro purchase from being any use to me. I am having to use other software right now to meet my production deadlines, and then go back through it later on Lightroom at a glacially slow pace. After a couple weeks of this duplicated workflow, I am just getting tired of it.

Maybe you could help us help you by providing your systen details in full the location of your files.
    Thank you...

iWork! But Office 2008 or 2011 will run fine on Lion
Lion is awesome, and if you purchased your MacBook Pro since June 6th, go here to get a free copy> http://www.apple.com/macosx/uptodate/

  • How to get iTunes TV shows to a new mac without the old Mac

    Hi,
so recently my old (only 1,5 years old!!!!) MacBook died.
It was all very sad and inconvenient for a poor pennyless Student!
Now I got a beautiful new (well refurbished) MacBookPro (for which I will be paying longer than I will study)
and I tried to get my iTunes going.
Fortunately I got a lovely IPad 2 from which all my music got immediately synchronised onto my MacBookPro,
unfortunately I did not keep my TV shows (SherlockBBC!!!) on the Pad,
and now I have no idea where to get those files.
Seeing as my old Mac is no longer accessible there must be another way to get the movies and apps that I didn't keep
on my mobile devices. They can't be lost can they?
    Help please?
    Jo

    Hi,
    wow you're fast
So, I tried your link, and that support page is for getting the purchased items onto your pad,
which I of course tried, that would get me one step closer,
but obviously I must be in one of those backward countries that doesn't allow so much
(link 2 doesn't work for me so I can't check) but my purchased file only shows music and
won't give me the option of tv shows...germany *****
and would that change if i took my computer to another country and got a new apple id?
    (am i asking illegal stuff???)
is there another way for the cloud/store to computer synchronisation?
maybe the series was in cloud, my last cd backup is a bit old, and my tv shows
might have been uploaded in my first cloud try out (didn't get very far in becoming acquainted with that one to be honest, but i did good once i think)
thanks for the attempt to help though
    tried out some new stuff

  • MacBook Pro Mac OS X Lion 10.7.5 to new Mac Pro

I am currently using a pro 2011 and I want to buy a new one that runs on the Os X Mavericks system. I back up my current computer with an external seagate hard drive right now. If I buy a new computer running on Maverick and connect my seagate drive to it, will I be able to see my files, photos etc. automatically??
Should I upgrade my Lion 10.7.5 system to Maverick? What are the pro and cons??
    Thanks,

    AllegraEsmeralda,
which model MacBook Pro do you currently have now? There’s only one model which can run Lion but can’t run Mavericks — the Late 2006 model. Any other MacBook Pro which can run Lion can also run Mavericks.
Does your current MacBook Pro rely upon Seagate kernel extensions to be able to access your external hard drive? If not, then you should be able to use it under Mavericks too. If it does rely upon them, then you’ll need to check if your installed Seagate software is usable under Mavericks, or if there’s an update available for it which will run under Mavericks.
Whether you should upgrade from Lion to Mavericks or not depends upon what you use your MacBook Pro for. For example, there are some third-party peripherals which are supported under Lion but not supported under Mavericks; if you depend upon any of those peripherals, then you shouldn’t upgrade to Mavericks unless you’re also planning to upgrade to Mavericks-compatible peripherals.

  • I can not get mobile internet from teltra working on my new Mac pro 13 any one can help me as telstra asked me to contact apple as they can not fix it Thank you in advance

Can some-one let me know how to get mobile internet with teltra working on mac pro.
Teltra could help me as they can't fix it and asked me to contact apple. The mobile device is working on all other computer (windows) but not Mac Pro
    Thank you in advance

By contact Apple they mean AppleCare over the phone. This is the user forums, so no one from Apple will be able to assist you. AppleCare's phone number is (800)-APL-CARE (800-275-2273) for the United States.

  • How to use hard drives with the new mac pro

A few quick questions about upgrading to new Mac pro desktop
I currently have 4 internal hard drives for a total of 8T
What will the solution be to add storage to the new desktop?
I assume it will be thunderbolt options?
Lets say I wanted at least 8TB of storage to add to the computer
and attached the storage via thunderbolt will it be as fast data throughput
as the harddrives in my current computer hooked up to the external bus?
I also have a pci card running my audio plugins for Universal Audio how will those pci
cards work on the new mac pro?

Also will the transfer rate with the pegas be as fast as if the drives were connected to the bus in the machines like the old mac pro?
To answer that, think of this as a Bottleneck problem. The overall performance is as slow as the slowest device.
At this writing typical rotating drives can produce a momentary burst at 125 MBytes/sec or 1,000 Mbits/sec. Only FireWire 800 is starting to be a limit for that -- EVERYTHING else is faster. Thunderbolt-1 is 10,000 Mbits/sec -- ten times faster.
The best SSD can produce a burst at maybe 800 MBytes/sec or 6,400 Mbits/sec. There is not a big speed difference in an SSD RAID, because the latency is already low. But the 10,000 Mbits/sec of ThunderBolt-1 is still plenty fast enough for that as well.
If ThunderBolt-2 devices really can run a single data stream at 20,000 Mbits/sec, that does not make ANYTHING faster -- it just moves the ceiling (potential bottleneck) a bit farther away.

  • How to get Lion off my computer and go back to Snow Leopard???

How do I get rid of Lion and go back to Snow Leopard PERMANENTLY?
    I am not techno.
I need simple instructions with plain descriptions. I do not have any discs. The iMac came with Snow Leopard and I loaded NOTHING.
I should never have bought  Lion. It is awful.
Please someone tell me how to get Lion off my computer and go back to Snow Leopard.

Can I use time machine to restart the machine before the fateful day when I bought and installed Lion?
Yes, if you have a pre-Lion backup, but you need an installation disc.
Is there anything else I can do?  more RAM?
I don't know how much RAM you have. It must be at least 2 GB, or Lion wouldn't have installed. If that's all you have, you might get better performance by adding more. But from your description, I doubt that your problem is due entirely, if at all, to a lack of RAM. If you want to troubleshoot the problem, it will take some patience and effort, and you'll need to be in a calm frame of mind.

  • HT1727 i bought some ringtones on my iPhone, later on i sync my iphone to my old computer now i have a new mac pro desktop and i only have 2 ringtones on my phone but not the rest of them how can i get them back without having to pay for them again?

i bought some ringtones on my iPhone, later on i sync my iphone to my old computer now i have a new mac pro desktop and i only have 2 ringtones on my phone but not the rest of them how can i get them back without having to pay for them again?

If you bought them on your iPad then you will need to connect your iPad to your computer's iTunes and do File > Devices > Transfer Purchases to copy them over to the Tones part of your computer's iTunes library and you can then sync them to your iPhone - ringtones are a one-time only download, so you won't be able to redownload them directly on your phone.

  • I have a long-existing iPhone 4s with one apple id and started a job where I received a macbook with another apple id. how do i get my phone to sync with the Mac Pro and secondly how do i get my music on there?

No not bothered about sycing apps etc it is all about calendars and maybe notes. IN terms of how its done I just want it the easiest way and preferably so that if an entry is made on one calendar then it populates the other.
Thgius is beacuse I have my work diary on outlok, which I then link with my ical. I want to make sure that information is then shared with her.

The old Apple ID (presumably your dads) owns those songs and your new Apple ID does not.  However, your dad can authorize your iD to use the songs by going to Store > Authorize This Computer from your iTunes menu and entering his Apple ID and password.

To restore app data, the apps have to be in the iTunes library of the computer on which you do the restore. The iPod ackup that iTunes makes does not included synced media like apps and music.
    To redownload iTunes purchases see:

  • How do I get new Mac Pro to "find" my HP LaserJet 1200n?

I have been using my HP LaserJet 1200n with my G5. The ethernet cable from the printer is plugged into my Airport Extreme Base Station. On the G5 I have checked the box "Share this Printer", and its location is given as "Local Zone". I have added a new Mac Pro, and want to use the LaserJet with it. I will be getting rid of the G5. The problem I am having is that I can not get the Mac Pro to "find" the LaserJet on its own. IF I have the G5 turned on, then and only then will the Mac Pro print via ethernet to the LaserJet. In this configuration it lists the Laserjet "@ G5". With the G5 turned off the Mac Pro Systems Prefs list the LaserJet as "idle", but when I attempt to print the Mac Pro searches for the LaserJet with no results. How do I fix this? Thanks!

    Good news and bad news.
Good news: I got it to work
Bad news: It worked after about 4-1/2 hours of reading Apple and HP posts and printer manuals, and I really don't know that I did anything different I didn't do at 20 min.
To document for anyone that might search...
With a Laserjet 2100M or 2100TN connected through a Linksys router, I think what was key is to unplug and restart every network device several times, including the router itself. That's the only thing I can think of that might have made it work this time since I was doing the random monkey thing.
Pushing both buttons simultaneously on the printer gets it to divulge its IP address, but I realized I can look at my router in the browser and see where it starts assigning IP addresses (...100 in my case) and if worse came to worse, just configure a bunch of printers with ...100, ...101, etc up to the number of devices on the network since you don't know what got assigned what address (it's unrelated to which of the four ports a device is plugged into because of the wireless devices).
So you can go to the printer menu, I right click on the existing printers and clear all the printers, then hit + and then go to IP menu and pick the jetsocket choice, type in the IP address. The very last (successful) time, it knew what the printer was and picked the drivers (instead of generic postscript or PCL like it had 50 times before).
Again, I think it's the rebooting and unplugging or turning things off to force them to do a little comms handshaking. Depression to elation, all over a printer. We're just pawns in the grip of multinational hegemony. <joke>
