How to get Lion to recognize my SSD?

I have a new iMac with both a 250GB solid-state disk and a 2TB hard disk. When I tried to replicate my Powerbook  on the iMac, Migration Assistant just looked at the SSD and said there wasn't enough room, not realizing there was a 2TB disk as well. So I migrated my applications and settings to the SSD and then did a straight copy (using the Powerbook as a target disk for the iMac) of my Documents folder. But now I'm having problems (such as an empty desktop, which is the subject of my other post this morning). I now think I know why: Lion says my startup disk is the 2TB hard disk. When I go to Startup Disk system settings, Lion doesn't recognize the existence of the SSD. So two questions:
1. How do I tell Lion there's an SSD?
2. Failing that, is there any to tell Migration assistant to use the 2TB hard disk for everything, not the SSD (because, sigh, Migration Assistant doesn't recognize the existence of the 2TB hard disk)?

If I were you, I would open a service request with Apple regarding this problem. You are permitted 90 days of free tech support for new Macs, if I recall correctly, so why not use it?

  • How to get Lion off my computer and go back to Snow Leopard???

How do I get rid of Lion and go back to Snow Leopard PERMANENTLY?
    I am not techno.
I need simple instructions with plain descriptions. I do not have any discs. The iMac came with Snow Leopard and I loaded NOTHING.
I should never have bought  Lion. It is awful.
Please someone tell me how to get Lion off my computer and go back to Snow Leopard.

Can I use time machine to restart the machine before the fateful day when I bought and installed Lion?
Yes, if you have a pre-Lion backup, but you need an installation disc.
Is there anything else I can do?  more RAM?
I don't know how much RAM you have. It must be at least 2 GB, or Lion wouldn't have installed. If that's all you have, you might get better performance by adding more. But from your description, I doubt that your problem is due entirely, if at all, to a lack of RAM. If you want to troubleshoot the problem, it will take some patience and effort, and you'll need to be in a calm frame of mind.

  • How to get FCP to recognize an animation sequence, not individual clips ?

    Hello All;
Could someone tell me how to get FCP to recognize a .png animation sequence (Exported from After-Effects) ? When I place the directory or files onto the timeline, I get a project 27 minutes long, rather than 10 seconds like it should be. I know this must be easy and I'm just missing something.
    Tim

You exported a .png image sequence from After Effects?
    Three choices:
    1) In Final Cut Pro, click anywhere in the 27 minute long timeline and type Command + A to select all the clips. Once they are all selected Control Click on any one of the selected clips, and from the drop down menu choose Duration. Set the duration each clip is supposed to be ( 1 frame? 3 frames?) and click OK.
    2) In Final Cut Pro, go to the menu Final Cut Pro > User Preferences. When The User Preferences open, click on the Editing Tab. Set the Still/Freeze duration to the duration you want for each of the stills in your image sequence and click OK. You will then need to re-import the stills, and they will now each be the new duration. This does not work on the stills you have already imported- you need to import the stills again.
    3) Open Quicktime Pro (Quicktime Player 7) and go to the menu File > Open Image Sequence. . .
Navigate to the first frame of your image sequence and click Open. You will be asked to pick your frame rate. Set that and click OK.
When it opens, go to the menu File > Export and the Save Exported File As . . . window will open. Choose the codec you want for your animation (Pro Res, most likely) and, determine a location for the file and click Save. The image sequence will be exported as a Movie in the frame rate and codec you chose. Import that movie into FCP to edit or composite.

  • How to get mac to recognize thumb drive?

how to get mac to recognize thumb drive?

Launch the Disk Utility application. Does the thumb drive appear in the list of volumes on the left side? If not, try using a different USB port. If the issue still occurs then try restarting the system. If the thumb drive appears in Disk Utility check out how it is formatted. Do you have data on it that you need?  If it can be erased try formatting it with Disk Utility using the Mac OS Extended (journaled) format. If the thumb drive will be used in a Mac and PC environment then take a look at this article for additional information on choosing the right format.

  • How can I get Lion to recognize my boot camp partition.

Yesterday morning I found my mac suffered from a b-tree failure and was unable to access OS X 10.6. I ended up booting into my Boot camp partition of Windows XP and backed it up then reinstalled Snow leopard. Then I upgraded to Lion, saw it fail due to a partitioning issue, created a 2gb partition called Mac HD 2 (by shrinking mac hd), saw i could install but not full install. So I created another partition and installed Lion successfully. Got into Lion and shrunk my 2x 2GB partitions into one 4GB partition. My Windows XP hard drive boot camp partition was still on my desktop. I can access all the files but I can not boot into it. When I hold down the option key there is only Mac HD or Recovery partition.
Is there any way to get the boot camp partition to work?
I did notice that when I was looking through the settings I could choose which HD was the default boot option. Mac hd with 10.7 and a folder called Windows XP were both available.

We also cannot get Robohelp to recognize our FrameMaker installation.
We are using Robohelp 9  and Framemaker 11.
We are in the process of moving all of our Robohelp content to Framemaker, but our project team still needs CHM files for the next release or so.  So we figured we could move our content to Frame 11, then import the Frame content into Robohelp when we needed to generate the CHM files.
The process works great when we use RH 10 and Frame 11, but we get the following error when we use RH 9:
"This operation cannot be completed without FrameMaker.  Install FrameMaker and try again."
I have uninstalled and reinstalled Frame 11 and RH 9, but am still getting the same error.  Buying a set of new Robohelp 10 licenses probably isn't an option.
    Any other suggestions?
    Thanks,
    Sue

  • How to install Lion OSX on new SSD without install disc

    TL;DR
I need a way to install Lion on a new SSD without an install disc, and how to format it without a Mac.
Hello, just yesterday I opened up my MBP 13" Mid-2010 running 10.7.(4/5) (Not sure which it is, but I think it is 10.7.5) and the first thing I saw was Skype tring to sign in. It looked fine, untill I took a second look and I heard a strange clicking noise coming from my computer. The Sykpe signin page said "Disc I/O error" or something like that. I instantly knew there was something wrong with my hard drive. Tried rebooting, grey screen, strange clicking noise like most people with hard drive failure. I was devistated. It has worked minutes ago, then my brother gets off, I open it up,and the hard drive has failed. After I got over the initial shock, I googled "hard drive replacement" after searching for a while, I noticed most sites just showed how to UPGRADE your hard drive, cloning it and all. Well, heres my main problem. I had no time to clone. Luckily, I had started backup up a month ago, and all my data is safe on my external hard drive, but this is only a time machine backup. No OS. Now, most people can just put in their install disk and voila! But, I, sadly, do not have my install disk. No idea where it went, I just don't have it. So, I was wondering if there was any possible way to make a bootable USB or disk without having acsess to a Mac, or having to buy a disc. I bought Lion, and I'm hoping that there is a way to download this and put it on a USB, then boot my computer from it. Now, my second problem is formatting. I have no idea how to format my SSD, let alone without a Mac. If there is some way to format an SSD so that it will work with a MacBook Pro, that would be great.on a PC
IMPORTANT: No, I don't have ANY install discs, the only one I had, for Snow Leopard, is gone. And no, I don't have access to ANY Macs to format the SSD. Finally, I would really love to be able to do this all cost-free, as I have already purchased the Lion, and dont feel like buying a disc for it again.

    Yes. See below:
    Drive Erase for Lion/Mountain Lion
    1.  Wait until the Main Menu appears. This could take quite some time because you are doing all of this over an Internet connection. You should use Ethernet if possible. It's much faster than wireless. Select Disk Utility from the Main Menu and click on the Continue button.
    2. After DU loads select the SSD main entry (mfgr.'s ID and size.) Click on the Partition tab in DU's main window. Select One partition from the dropdown menu under Partition Scheme.
    3. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed.
After the above has completed quit DU and return to the Main Menu. Click on the Install/Reinstall OS X option then click on the Continue button.
You should be all set if there are no glitches.

  • I have a Windows 7 Pro OEM disk that can install either the 32 or 64 bit version. When using version 5.0.3 of Bootcamp, I keep getting the message that it is a 32 bit disk.  Any ideas how to get it to recognize the 64 bit version?

I have a Windows 7 Pro OEM disk that can install either the 32 bit or 64 bit versions.  When trying to setup a dual boot for my Mac Mini using Bootcamp version 5.0.3, I get the message that I have the 32 bit version of Windows.  Any ideas on how I can get it to recognize the 64 bit version so that I can partition my "Mini"?

If by "OEM" you mean the disk came with another Win computer, it won't work. You need either a full retail verison or the "System Builders' Edition." I used the latter for my BC installation and it worked flawlessly and was marked as 64-bit--no mention of 32-bit.

  • How to get iTunes to recognize an Italian album (not as Spanish)

I have a number of albums by my favorite Italian artists (Eros Ramazzotti, Nek, Laura Pausini, et al.). These artists habitually release their Italian-language CDs first, and then record and release the same CD (i.e., song list) in Spanish.
However, when here in the States I insert the original Italian-language albums, about half the time the album is given the Spanish title and song list, which irks my sense of order. Does anyone know how to get things right, short of my manually having to type in each album's song list? (Peeved: I'm moving to the Apple/Mac world form the PC world, and Windows Media Player at least gives me a choice between the Italian title/songlist and the Spanish one).
Thanks in advance for any advice.

iTunes does not recognize cameras, it only recognizes iDevices.
Windows computers could careless that it's a phone or iPod or whatever, they will only recognize it as a camera.
Plug the device into the computer.
    Lauch iTunes.
Sync whatever you like to it.
If you have issues, clearly explain exactly what is happening.

  • How to get Lion on DVD

for the remote chance my machine will crash, be undable to download another version of the OS, how do I get Lion on DVD

You didn't say if you have a new machine that had Lion already installed.  Apple will not be issuing a Lion DVD, but they do offer a Lion thumb drive available from the Apple store for $69.00.  If you purchased and downloaded it from the Apple store, you can download it again at no charge (you also didn't tell us if you mean a defunct hard drive, or an inability to boot up).  If you mean a hard drive problem, you will have to replace the drive and install SL 10.6.8 (I believe that you need that installed in order to install Lion) before doing anything else. Then, if you purchased from the Apple store, you can return there, go to the Lion page, option click on the "purchases" tag (it will turn blue) and it will bring you to the page that lists your purchases. Lion will be there, and you should be able to install it from there.
On the other hand, if you have Lion on your machine now, you can make a bootable DVD or flash drive from it. Rather than trying to explain the process here, I recommend that you go to: http://www.macworld.com where you will find articles on how to make the bootable DVD or flash drive.
    I hope this helps.

  • How to get PS to recognize my Epson scanner

I have PS CS4 for Mac (running Snow Leopard), and am trying to figure out how to Import or scan something into PS.  With my Windows machine I used to use Epson TWAIN from the Import menu.  The only Import options I have on my Mac version are: Video Frames to Layers, Anti-aliased PICT..., and PICT resource..., none of which are what I need.
I have updated Mac OS after attaching my scanner and it did download some Epson drivers, but still is not showing up in PS.  I have used VueScan sucessfully but don't want to have to pay for that if I have the ability to import through PS.

Well I heard back from Epson.  Seems they don't make Snow Leopard drivers or application specifically for the Perfection 2450 but they said that the older drivers would work.  So I downloaded and installed them.  After I did I got an Epson scan icon in my Apps folder.  When I run it however it does nothing, no interface, nothing but the words Epson Scan on the top Mac menu bar and when I mouse over that to try to do something I just get the rainbow cursor.  I opened PS and still no other items avail in the Import menu.  So how do you go about enabling TWAIN or whatever for the Mac so that the option will show up in PS?  I'm a Mac newbie.
I did have a need to scan something so I bought VueScan which worked and I was scanning in about 10 seconds after installing it, but I really want to figure out how to get it to work in PS
    Thanks,
    Steve
