How to get photos onto TV

Question

Hi folks,
I'm a newbie and hope you'll tolerate me gatecrashing. It's just that I'm in a pixel nightmare and in desperate need of help.
I'm using PE 3.01 and have almost 3000 pictures processed. Rather stupidly, I figured I'd leave the printing worries to a later date - my primary concern was to get photos onto data CD and onto TV. So I merrily cropped, edited and generally fixed all my pics. (I now have original digital neg, tiff and edited jpeg - the output image). But I've not set up the latter for computer screen, tv or print. I think I can handle the print side, but will need another version for electronic output, and this will be my TV. It's there, for my fourth version, that I need help.
The images are a mixture of digital and slide scans and most are OK. But on some of the digitals, I've noticed the diagonal lines are jagged. On my last outing I took pics of boats with rigging and it was all terrible - string of pearls stuff from mast to mast on the diagonals. I've looked at the camera with the manufacturer, and it's probably fine.
I finally spoke to Adobe. They said try to generate a version with the same (close as you can) number of pixels as the TV and change the dpi. This should be around 36 for STD TV and around 100 for HDTV. I have a HDTV (1920x1080) but it says on the box that the number of pixels are 1280 by 720. Confusion. I've tried both figures and failed. Photo seems elongated, does not fill the screed and the boat still has strings of pearls instead o rigging. Can anyone out there help?

I am aware of the 25/50/75/100 steps on the monitor, and yes it does make it better. 100 is smooth (it's the actual image). Yes, the problem is still visible in Fax Viewer. I can permanently remove this problem on the computer monitor by changing image size to a resolution of 96dpi (same as monitor) and 1024/768 same as monitor, using bicubic smoother. (Remember it is just disposable electronic version). Works great. Still, this is not so easy to transfer to TV. Remember, most of the images work OK on TV, it's just those with diagonal lines that are the problem.
