How to get Platform Settings

In flex 2/3 how does one go about getting the current
settings off the users platform for things like monetary and
date/time. Does CurrencyFormatter default to something local? Is
there a difference between an embedded (.SWF) application here and
say one with AIR (desktop)?

I dont know about currency and date/time specifically, but
Flash Player has a "Capabilities" class (see
http://livedocs.adobe.com/labs/flex3/langref/flash/system/Capabilities.html)
which lets you find the user's OS/language/etc.
Apart from that, if you can access locale settings from
JavaScript, you could try using the "ExternalInterface" class (
http://livedocs.adobe.com/labs/flex3/langref/flash/external/ExternalInterface.html)
to call JavaScript functions from your Flex app.

Turns out those error messages it gave me were because it didn't sync properly and create a backup. Which is why when I restored from backup it didn't reload my old info. Instead of assuring me that I would have the option to restore my info, it would have been nice had it told me that a backup hadn't been completed and that restoring my phone without it would leave me with nothing.
Tech support had me use my old SIM card to import my old contacts. This worked, but I've entered contacts since getting the new phone that aren't on my old SIM. And doing so left me with a bunch of re-organizing to do (deleting, combining, entering First and Last name fields...) it took me several hours.
I didn't get my appointments back, cause my old phone was just a phone, and that info wasn't on the old SIM, but I'm REALLY glad I got my contacts.

Looks like a sudden error being thrown up on many ATV2 units. Yesterday, mine was fine and today I now only have 2 icons like so many other posters.
No amounts of restarts or restores, disconnecting and reconnecting power, restarting routers, re-logging in to iTunes has any effect at all.

IPhone 4: how to get to settings with no working buttons?

Just today all of the buttons on my sister's iPhone 4 ceased to work. The home, power, and volume buttons are completely useless. I have tried resetting the phone by pressing the home and power button, without luck. Single or double pressing the home button doesn't have an effect, however, the screen colors do invert when I press it three times.
I backed the phone up on the computer, and tried to reset it through iTunes, but I kept getting an error message saying that I needed to get into the iCloud settings on the phone and turn off 'find my iphone'. I can't do this, however, because I cannot get into settings on the phone.
Is there anyway to get into settings without using the home button? Or, is there a way to force a reset? Buying a new phone is not a prefferable option at the moment, but even a temporary fix would be really great. Thanks for any help!

Log into iCloud on the computer, select the phone, select erase. Then turn the phone off. Remove the phone from your iCloud account. Now restore the device.

How to get Print settings dialogue?

I have a Mac and a canon P9000 Mark 2 printer with Photoshop CS5. I can find no way to change the size or type of paper I am using. I know the print settings box has been removed from the file menu. I go to Print Settings at the color management menu and I get no choices, just a click to print or to PDF. No paper size, no paper choice etc. I have the most recent Canon Driver (dated 9/09, but according to Canon's download menu the most recent). This is really frustrating. How do I get the dialogue running correctly?

Coming from BtYahoo mail, one could choose when my inbox mail (over a month old in my case) could be automatically deleted.
How do I get to the "Settings" to choose after what period of time my inbox emails will be deleted in the new BT Mail ??
I have looked in the "Settings" at the top of the page but am unable to find this facility !!

Really? Are you sure, or do you mean the Spam folder rather than the Inbox ?

How to get my Settings- Phone options back without a restore

Ok folks here's the rub. I am a certified tech for both CPU and iOS, yet this one has me scratching my head.
Equipment: iPhone 3G with firmware 4.2.1 (not going to 4.3.3)
Windows XP SP3, witha crappy processor but 8GB of RAM
Yes it is Jailbroken with Redsn0w so restoring and re-jacking it is just not gonna happen. I don't even wat to think of the man hours.
The major issue was I was messing around with my official iPhone Browser Utility, because I couldn't get my iPhone Configuration Utility to instal the new APN on my phone because I have a Go Phone SIM in the phone and for 9 months it worked just fine and I could get my 3G and move happily on my way. I believe my upgrade to 3.1.3 and the baseband with it caused it to be recognized by the server as such and ::poof:: my 3G was gone and so is my ability to but a prfile in the phone even though even when I could use my APN editor and made it with the wap.cingular and [email protected]. password CIGULAR1 it wouldn't bring back my data, time to probably switch to T-Mobile, but I digress. And if Anyone has any idea on getting my 3G back which I rarely use and no smart remarks about getting regular AT&T account b/c I don't use phone enough to think about paying for that much non-usage, I'd appreciate it.
But when I was messing with the internals and backed up and deleted the files having to do with mobile data and mobile usage .plists. Then I discovered that BLAM, if I go to Settings>Phone it just gives me an error: There was an error loading the preference bundle for Phone. It has the same bloody .plist it had before. I've hard reset it, I've soft reset it, I even restored from a previously known good backup I specifically made. It didn't kill my Jailbreak thank God. But someone out there has got to know I can either use iFile or the iPhone Browser Utility to fixe this. Please Help.
Try [email protected] comments about me jailbreaking it and getting what I deserve will result in me packet sniffing your location and well...just don't do it. I already know my curiosity and desire to get my 3G service back has hosed me. Thanks.

It has always been very basic to always maintain a backup copy of your computer for just such an occasion.
use your backup copy to put everythng back.

I want to use Runtime.getRuntime().exec(cmd) to execute an external program. This program has multiple versions for different platform.
I understand that the cmd is different for different platforms, cmd for windows and sh for linux. So I want to determine the current platform. How to do that?
Or is there any other methods?

it might be enough to divide the world into windows and non-windows (unix), but many unix built-in commands have differing switches on different unix variants so you have to test everywhere

Also, i observed that when a PDF page in portrait mode is rotated, the word quad's remain the SAME; however if i recreate the same PDF in landscape orientation, then the quads of the words CHANGES. I clearly want to know the difference between the two for every aspect like will the word finder and word quad's work the same for both orientation as well as rotation? I think the XY axes gets changed when orientation changes which makes the word quad change. Let me know your suggestions and detail explanation on this.

How to get default settings

I bought a new lumix camera. to play video I had to download quicktime on a provided disk. the first time I did it it gave me an option to make quicktime my default program which it did . It took over my picture files which I didn't like so I uninstalled it. On reinstall I was no longer given any options about default settings. I've tried multiple times and still no luck. any ideas what to try? I just want quicktime to play my camera videos

i just connected a new Apple TV device to my television. When first start the TV it does not give me the option to go to settings. It is in French. The first screen to appear is the screen with all the choice icons. I have tried restarting several times.

On that screen, can you find the Settings icon? It's grey in color and resembles a bicycle chainring (or "gear").

Depending upon what country that you are in (music can't be re-downloaded in all countries) then see if you can redownload your past music purchases (those that are still in the store) via the Purchased link under Quick Links on the right-hand side of the iTunes store home page on your computer's iTunes : re-downloading.
If you are not in a country where music can currently be re-downloaded, then have you not got it on your computer and/or on a backup ?
