How to get reed of the arrows to the itunes store?

Hi,
On itunes 1.8 reappear the arrows leading to the itunes store, as in the version 1.7. The thing is, in the version 1.7 you were able to make them "disappear" with the Edition > Preferences > General (sorry if the directories' name aren't right, my itunes is in french).
But, in the 1.8 version, it looks (to me) like you can't possibly do it. Especially when you check the help which tells you to do exactly as in version 1.7 (Edition > Preferences...), but the box you are supposed to "un-tick" is simply not there.
How can I simply make them disappear?

To remove the arrows on a Windows copy of iTunes:
1) Shutdown iTunes
2) Backup your prefs file
C:\Users\(youruser)\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\iTunes\iTunesPrefs.xml
3) Edit the file in a real text editor that understands UNIX linefeeds (notepad++, ultraedit, vi, etc) and paste the following lines below the <dict> line under <key>User Preferences</key>:
<key>show-store-arrow-links</key>
<data>
AA==
</data>
4) Start iTunes and you should be set.

Just as a tip, it will be clearer to most people if you don't post software version numbers in reverse as is the case with dates in many European countries. Reversing software version numbers will just confuse things. The current version of iTunes is 8.0.1 and should be referred to that way so that it's clear what version you really have. It's obvious with iTunes, but with other software might not be so clear what you mean.

How to "Get Info" in the iTunes Store

In the usual part of the iTunes Store, you cannot "Get Info" about media, but there is another section where you can. First, find out the item's Genre or Category.
If it is Music, find out the Artist and Album.
If it is an Audiobook, find out the Author/Narrator.
If it is a Music Video, find out the Artist.
If it is a TV episode, find out the TV Show and the Season.
Go to the iTunes Store. Scroll to bottom. There are 4 columns. Under the 2nd column, Features, choose Browse. Choose the media type (Movie, Music, etc). Choose the Genre or Category. Next:
if Music:
Choose All for a Subgenre. Choose the Artist. Choose the Album. Right-click on the desired song, and choose "Get Info."
if Movie or App:
Right-Click the desired item, and choose "Get Info."
if Audiobook:
Choose the Author/Narrator. Right-Click the desired item, and choose "Get Info."
if Music Video:
Choose the Artist. Right-Click the desired item, and choose "Get Info."
if Podcast:
Choose All for a Subcategory. Right-Click the desired item, and choose "Get Info."
if TV show:
Choose the TV Show. Choose the Season. Right-Click the desired item, and choose "Get Info."

One stated to "search cmd, right click, and run as admininstrator" but where is this?
In the search field in your Vista start menu, type cmd
Next, right-click on the cmd that comes up and select "Run as administrator".

Recovery Mode
1. Disconnect the USB cable from the device, but leave the other end of the cable connected to your computer's USB port.
2. Turn off the device: Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the red slider appears, then slide the slider. Wait for the device to turn off.
3.While pressing and holding the Home button, reconnect the USB cable to the device. The device should turn on.
4. Continue holding the Home button until you see the "Connect to iTunes" screen. When this screen appears, release the Home button. iTunes should alert you that it has detected a device in recovery mode. Click OK, and then click Restore to restore the device.
Note: Data will be lost. You may have to repeat the above many times.

Apps from the iTunes store are only for ios based devices. ie iPad or iPhone
If you want an app for your Macbook use the App Store on the toolbar and you can purchase a mac version if it exists.

This problem is resolved. I deleted the old iTunes (with write permissions turned on for my account) and reinstalled successfully. Removing the deleted iTunes from Trash was troublesome even with root but after playing around with permissions and flags, I was able to remove it.

I have the same problem and when I review my account and enter my cc info it tells me "Your request is temporarily unable to be processed. Please try again later." and this is day 5 of trying again later. What the **** is the prob? It isn't the card bc it has plenty of $$$ on it.

Getting rid of the iTunes Store arrow links

Just upgraded to version 8 (.0.1.11) and now little (->)'s appear in the name, artist and album columns (genre too but I don't display that so w/e) of the selected as well as currently playing songs, linking to a search for the respective title in the iTunes store.
I remember seeing these arrows in a previous version (though not six of them) and managed to get rid of them, but I can't seem to find where you get rid of them now. Anyone care to point out where?
