How to get rid of Acrobat reader (completely)?

Hi,
it's somewhat a stupid question. I got tired of Acrobat reader on x86-64 and decided I would go for the available software on Arch. I uninstalled my bin32-acroread package through yaourt, but after that I still have the option set by default all around my system to open pdf files with Acrobat Reader... How do I get rid of this?
Thanks!

You should set an another application for opening application/pdf files. For example
xdg-mime query default application/pdf
will probably return AdobeReader.desktop as a result which means that application/pdf mimetypes are assigned to Adobe Reader. If you want to change it to evince, for example, you should do something like
xdg-mime default evince.desktop application/pdf
If you do not want evince then you should check for your desired application desktop file under /usr/share/applications.
EDIT: Sorry, too late

  • How to get rid of Adobe Reader on my OSX 10.9.5

I have a Mac mini, using OSX 10.9.5 and was forced to download Adobe Reader by Public Works, government of Canada, in order to print their document.  For starters this is SO wrong.
When I completed the download, Adobe Reader wanted me to approve it replacing my Preview, which I didn't want to do, so I answered NO.
Now I can't get into the damnable Adobe Reader to get rid of it.
Can you please let me know how to get rid of ALL of Adobe Reader from the download?
Thanks in advance for your anticipated help.

    Macintosh HD > Library > Internet Plug-ins
    Look for these two files.
    AdobePDFViewerNPAPI.plugin
    AdobePDFViewer.plugin
Right click on those and select “Move To Trash”.
    Restart the computer.

  • How to get rid of "Acrobat Pro is not currently your default PDF reader"

    Hi,
I am testing 3rd party crypto suite integration into Acrobat. Each time I fire it up it pesters me again to set the default PDF handler for OS X to Acrobat Pro which I never, ever want.
Is there any way to get rid of this massage? If not, I'd suggest the decision makers for this suffer from loading an 1000 page+ crypto standard document in Acrobat when it fires up :->
    regards,
         Tom_E

There should be a check box in the dialog box that you are seeing to set it so that this dialog is not shown again.

  • How do you get rid of Acrobat Reader? It just keeps coming back.

So, I have Adober Reader 10.1.12 installed on my machine. I've tried three times now, even used the uninstaller app provided by Adobe and Adobe Updater just keeps downloading it again. It doesn't bother asking to do this... It doesn't even say it's doing anything until the deed is done. Then I have to restart just to uninstall Reader again which I might say is a little frustrating and of course 'Adobe Updater' doesn't exist in the Uninstall list as anything I recognize.
So since my options have been tucked away in some hidden and arcane menu or config file... I suppose I need a hand finding them.

Windows 7 64 with current service pack. And... That's what's weird. I don't find a folder even when searching but the updater keeps reporting that it's installed something. Hold on, I'll restart it again and see what it says.
Restarted: Still no Reader folder and it's not resetting my current default .pdf program. It's also still not in my uninstall list now... so maybe it's just Updater being crazy? Is there any way to uninstall that then? Thanks, by the way.

  • Write-Progress display - How to get rid of it when complete?

This seems straight forward, but I haven't seen/found the answer...
My progress bars hang around too long.  I would like them to go away when complete, but they don't always.
Typically the Write-Progress is within a loop, and it works.  Then imediately after the loop I add "Write-Progress -Complete", but that doesn't seem to do it.
    What am I missing?

Not sure, but I don't think so...
There is only one instance of the write-progress cmdlet.  It executes many times within the loop.
Another question comes to mind... what is the -Completed argument for?  Should write-progress be called with that argument to close the display?  Or, when is that argument appropriate?
    I see Write-Progress twice:
    While( -NOT $Script:RecordSetG.EoF )
    { #...Some code
    $intCounterL ++
    If( $intRecordCountL -gt 0 )
    { $dblPercentageL = 100*( $intCounterL / $intRecordCountL )
    $intPercentageL = [int]$dblPercentageL
    $intSecondsLeftL = ( $intRecordCountL - $intCounterL ) / 24
    <em><strong>Write-Progress</strong></em> `
    -Activity "Building mailbox objects..." `
    -PercentComplete $intPercentageL `
    -SecondsRemaining $intSecondsLeftL `
    -CurrentOperation "$intPercentageL% complete" `
    -Status "Please wait."
    }#End If
    }#WEnd
    <em><strong>Write-Progress -Completed</strong></em>
I was suggesting eliminating the second one.

  • Please show me how to get rid of yahoo search COMPLETELY! I prefer google to search in the center search bar like I used to have even though it is on the search task bar

After adding a program yahoo has hijacked the search bar on the center start screen. I still have google in the task bar but would like it to also search on the main search box like it used to. I have looked for hours trying to find a fix but will wait for your response before changing to google chrome, as I am fond of firefox and it's features. I have witnessed many others with the same feeling and wish for the freedom to choose their default browser away from yahoo. It is a step in reverse to not be able to change it !!!

Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).
*Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.

Unfortunately CleanMyMac is as harmful, if not moreso, than MacCleanse. These third party cleaning apps are considered 'crapware' and can harm your system beyond repair. If you cannot uninstall them completely, as appears, it may pay to backup your data, reinstall avericks and migrate your important data back. You can try posting an etrecheck report and perhaps someone can help narrow down what you need to trash from all the areas that these programs have infected.
etresoft  a long time contributer to Apple Support Communities wrote a very useful app he called etrecheck which helps in diagnosing many problems caused by third party installs etc.. Go to his website, read his information and from there download and run the program according to his instructions

How to get rid of the error message we could not complete your iTunes store request?
having this problem when trying to authorise an newly downloaded app in iTunes

Based on the numerous posts regarding iTunes and the App Store, there appears to be an issue at Apple's end. Although Apple has not provided any indication on the cloud status page.
    Do not change your settings.

I am Manually Deleting Songs from my Ipad2, but when I press Delete, it shows a Cloud with a Red Arrow pointing down, and the Song remains, how do I get rid of the Song completely?.

The cloud icon means that the songs are only in the cloud, they aren't stored on your iPad. You can turn off the showing of songs that are in the cloud via Settings > iTunes & App Store > Music (under the 'show all' heading) 'off'. If you want to some cloud songs to show but not all then you can hide the ones that you don't want via your computer's iTunes : iTunes Store: Hiding and unhiding purchases

  • How Do I Get Rid of Adobe Reader X

I have absolutly no idea how to get rid of it and I need help!!!!!!

Assuming that you are in a Win and not in Mac machine, you may try running this fix from Microsoft: http://support.microsoft.com/mats/Program_Install_and_Uninstall

  • I've got OSX/Genieo.A virus on my mac and don't know how to get rid of it and why I have it

I've got OSX/Genieo.A virus on my mac and don't know how to get rid of it and w I have it

There is no need to download anything to solve this problem.
You installed the "Genieo" malware. The product is a fraud, and the developer knowingly distributes an uninstaller that doesn't work. I suggest the procedure below to disable Genieo. This procedure may leave a few small files behind, but it will permanently deactivate the malware (as long as you never reinstall it.)
Malware is always changing to get around the defenses against it. These instructions are valid as of now, as far as I know. They won't necessarily be valid in the future. Anyone finding this comment a few days or more after it was posted should look for more recent discussions or start a new one.
Back up all data before proceeding.
    Step 1
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
    /Library/Frameworks/GenieoExtra.framework
Right-click or control-click the line and select
Services ▹ Reveal in Finder (or just Reveal)
    from the contextual menu.
If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. In the Finder, select
              Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar and paste into the box that opens by pressing command-V. You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.
A folder should open with an item named "GenieoExtra.framework" selected. Move that item to the Trash. You'll be prompted for your administrator password.
Move each of these items to the Trash in the same way:
    /Applications/Genieo.app
    /Applications/Reset Search.app
    /Applications/Uninstall Genieo.app
    /Library/LaunchAgents/com.genieo.completer.update.plist
    /Library/LaunchAgents/com.genieo.engine.plist
    /Library/LaunchAgents/com.genieoinnovation.macextension.plist
    /Library/LaunchDaemons/com.genieoinnovation.macextension.client.plist
    /Library/PrivilegedHelperTools/com.genieoinnovation.macextension.client
    /usr/lib/libgenkit.dylib
    /usr/lib/libgenkitsa.dylib
    /usr/lib/libimckit.dylib
    /usr/lib/libimckitsa.dylib
    ~/Library/Application Support/com.genieoinnovation.Installer
    ~/Library/LaunchAgents/com.genieo.completer.download.plist
    ~/Library/LaunchAgents/com.genieo.completer.update.plist
If there are other items with a name that includes "Genieo" or "genieo" alongside any of those listed above, move them as well. Some of these items will be absent, in which case you'll get a message that the file can't be found. Skip that item and go on to the next one.
Restart and empty the Trash. Don't try to empty the Trash until you have restarted.
    Step 2
From the Safari menu bar, select
              Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Extensions
Uninstall any extensions you don't know you need, including ones called "Genieo" or "Omnibar," and any that have the word "Spigot" or "InstallMac" in the description. If in doubt, uninstall all extensions. Do the equivalent for the Firefox and Chrome browsers, if you use either of those.
Your web browser(s) should now be working, and you should be able to reset the home page and search engine. If not, stop here and post your results.
Make sure you don't repeat the mistake that led you to install this trojan. Chances are you got it from an Internet cesspit such as "Softonic" or "CNET Download." Never visit either of those sites again. You might also have downloaded it from an ad in a page on some other site. The ad has a large green button labeled "Download" or "Download Now" in white letters. The button is designed to confuse people who intend to download something else on the same page. If youever download a file that isn't obviously what you expected, delete it immediately.
You may be wondering why you didn't get a warning from Gatekeeper about installing software from an unknown developer, as you should have. The reason is that this Internet criminal has a codesigning certificate issued by Apple, which causes Gatekeeper to give the installer a pass. Apple could revoke the certificate, but as of this writing, has not done so, even though it's aware of the problem. This failure of oversight has compromised both Gatekeeper and the Developer ID program. You can't rely on Gatekeeper alone to protect you from harmful software.
Finally, be forewarned that when Genieo is mentioned on this site, the attacker sometimes shows up under the name "Genieo support." He will tell you to run a fake "uninstaller." As he intends, the uninstaller does not completely remove the malware, and is in fact malware itself.

  • How to get rid of automatically created Mail and iCal accounts on client?

I have recently setup an OS X 10.6 Server for our small office. I got the domain name wrong in the initial install and fixed this by doing a complete clean reinstall of OS X 10.6 server (now upgraded to 10.6.4).
The problem is that one of the OS X 10.6.4 clients had been setup to talk to the server prior to the rebuild. Now on this client, I cannot work out how to get rid of or change the automatically created server accounts in iCal and Mail - everytime you login, these are recreated using the old domain name (and of course don't work).
In Mail if you remove the server account (from Accounts in Preferences), it just pops back again. I even removed every trace of the old domain name from the apple.com.mail.plist file but when I re-open Mail that darned server account (with the old domain name) just pops up again.
In iCal its slightly different in that you can remove the account and it stays away while you have iCal open. But as soon as you close and re-open it, that server account just pops up again!
I thought it might be something to do with Kerberos and found a Kerberos file on the client which had the old domain name throughout it - I changed all these references to the new domain name, but still the same behaviour in Mail and iCal.
This is doing my head in. Any ideas?

I have the same problem. Every time that I open iCal on the client a new account is created and an error message shown that I cannot login. I can delete the wrong account in the iCal preferences. However, as soon as I restart, the account and the error message are back.
How do I "unbind" and "rebind" a client? I searched the "Mac OS X Server
Open Directory Administration Version 10.6 Snow Leopard" but the only reference to "binding" seems to be in the context of Active Directory which I don't have.
    Any help is greatly appreciated.
