How to get rid of MacBooster mini software?

hate it when this crappy mac software sneaks in... I wasn't paying attention when I installed VLC on a reformatted HD and got it from mac.software (top link in google and it looked just like the Videolan site)... thought everything was fine and then noticed strange behaviour ... did a bot of checking and found out this Macbooster app was piggy-backed with the VLC download! Why the **** this happens beats me, especially as I just can't seem to track it down anywhere ... Spotlight can't find it, going through all the preference folders can't find it... I know it's there as it pops up on Activity Monitor from time to time (see pic).
Any software that "cons" its way onto a mac is suspect and is not to be trusted  IMO -  any idea how to get rid of it... or even actually find where it's hiding?

here's what I've tried so far.... all with the same result of "the Folder can't be found"....

have to go to bed, I'll try a few more later.... anybody have a specific folder search that would show up something?

  • Satellite L300D - How to get rid of Aston Shell software

    Hi
I bought a new computer Satellite L300D last month and was very happy with it.
Unfortunately yesterday, by accident, I ran a progrmme called Aston Shell.
    My entire screen computer changed.
When it came up on MacAffee it asked if I wanted to change my registry. I pressed NO.
Now, it won't shut down properly, I don't know where to find my files. It also tells me this is a thirty day trial, so I'm afraid at the end of the thirty days my computer won't be any good.
Some one told me I should be able to change back to to Windows Explorer through my preferences and that my OS shouldn't be affected.
I don't know what that means. It was also suggested not uninstall Aston until I do this.
Although I am grateful to this person for there advice, I don't know what to do. I'm getting into a bit of a panic.
Can anyone please help me. Thankyou.

    Hi
I think you should simply set back the OS to the early time point.
Vista and XP supports such feature called system restore tool.
Check this tool and set the OS to the time point before the Aston Shell has been installed.
    I think this should function!

  • How do I get rid of the compromising software that Adobe sneakily installed on my browsers?

I am disgusted with Software companies like Adobe that treat their users with disrespect and contempt. They feel that they have the right to just download whatever they want and install it without anyone's approval.
Downloading Flash was an absolute joke.  First Adobe shoves 1 useless piece of crap software in your face after the other and they keep popping up a window to install driver software. If you decline each one, then they do not download the Flash player. Worse, they just go ahead and install their crap in your browsers despite the declines.
And Shame on you Adobe. Are you that desperate that you have to try and force-feed other software to your users? Makes me sorry that I ever purchased your CS suite.
Does anyone know how to get Adobe's crap unwanted software off my windows computer running XP?

  • How to get rid of Safari !!!!!

I must have missed the message to install Safari during one of the many iTunes updates and now I'm stuck with it on my computer taking up 60GB of space! I've tried removing it through Control Panel -> Uninstall Programs, but get the message that I don't have administrator privilages - which I do. Thinking I may have had this installed while I was logged in under my main administrator name, I logged off and logged back in under my only other user name and tried again - same message. So I went to the Safari folder and changed all security privilages to full access for both accounts and it still won't uninstall. How can this program claim I don't have administrator privilages when I used the only two user accounts on my computer?? So in a fit of defiance and desperation, I deleted the Safari folder and then ran the name "safari" in Vista's search box under the Start menu (I even included the wildcard .* to catch all examples). Guess what? Rather than find all traces of safari on my computer so I could delete them manually, Safari started running again!! I cancelled the program before it finished loading and went to recheck the Program Files folder and Safari was back there with a full 60GB of files again! I CAN'T GET RID OF IT!!
Safari is a malicious software program as bad as any Malware or Adware I have ever seen! How can I get rid of it??
(and no, I really do not want Safari - I don't care if you think its the greatest thing since sliced bread - I make the choices on my computer, not some software engineer or marketing division and I DON'T WANT SAFARI!!)
Any suggestions on how to get rid of it? Did I miss something?
    Thanks all,
    LH

The Safari update is not clear what it is and provided no explanation of what it was - it simply states "Safari". For all I know it could have been an indexing file for iTunes. There was no explanation as to what is was and the install checkbox was already checked so the unsuspecting may quickly and accidentaly hit install along with the iTunes update, thinking it was a required part of iTunes. Regardless of how it got there, I'm trying to get rid of it and it won't uninstall.
Now you may fancy yourself as some kind of wunderkind software expert, but you apparently do not know Vista because it really does take up 60 GB and every time I delete it, it tries to reinstall itself. These are not multiple installations and I am the only user on this computer. You haven't offered me any help - only insults. If you aren't willing or able to offer help or assistance in the most sincerest form this request was intended, than stay out of this thread. Your actions and insults reinforce the prevailing belief that Apple users are unkind, rude, self-important snobs.

  • I've got OSX/Genieo.A virus on my mac and don't know how to get rid of it and why I have it

I've got OSX/Genieo.A virus on my mac and don't know how to get rid of it and w I have it

There is no need to download anything to solve this problem.
You installed the "Genieo" malware. The product is a fraud, and the developer knowingly distributes an uninstaller that doesn't work. I suggest the procedure below to disable Genieo. This procedure may leave a few small files behind, but it will permanently deactivate the malware (as long as you never reinstall it.)
Malware is always changing to get around the defenses against it. These instructions are valid as of now, as far as I know. They won't necessarily be valid in the future. Anyone finding this comment a few days or more after it was posted should look for more recent discussions or start a new one.
Back up all data before proceeding.
    Step 1
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
    /Library/Frameworks/GenieoExtra.framework
Right-click or control-click the line and select
Services ▹ Reveal in Finder (or just Reveal)
    from the contextual menu.
If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. In the Finder, select
              Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar and paste into the box that opens by pressing command-V. You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.
A folder should open with an item named "GenieoExtra.framework" selected. Move that item to the Trash. You'll be prompted for your administrator password.
Move each of these items to the Trash in the same way:
    /Applications/Genieo.app
    /Applications/Reset Search.app
    /Applications/Uninstall Genieo.app
    /Library/LaunchAgents/com.genieo.completer.update.plist
    /Library/LaunchAgents/com.genieo.engine.plist
    /Library/LaunchAgents/com.genieoinnovation.macextension.plist
    /Library/LaunchDaemons/com.genieoinnovation.macextension.client.plist
    /Library/PrivilegedHelperTools/com.genieoinnovation.macextension.client
    /usr/lib/libgenkit.dylib
    /usr/lib/libgenkitsa.dylib
    /usr/lib/libimckit.dylib
    /usr/lib/libimckitsa.dylib
    ~/Library/Application Support/com.genieoinnovation.Installer
    ~/Library/LaunchAgents/com.genieo.completer.download.plist
    ~/Library/LaunchAgents/com.genieo.completer.update.plist
If there are other items with a name that includes "Genieo" or "genieo" alongside any of those listed above, move them as well. Some of these items will be absent, in which case you'll get a message that the file can't be found. Skip that item and go on to the next one.
Restart and empty the Trash. Don't try to empty the Trash until you have restarted.
    Step 2
From the Safari menu bar, select
              Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Extensions
Uninstall any extensions you don't know you need, including ones called "Genieo" or "Omnibar," and any that have the word "Spigot" or "InstallMac" in the description. If in doubt, uninstall all extensions. Do the equivalent for the Firefox and Chrome browsers, if you use either of those.
Your web browser(s) should now be working, and you should be able to reset the home page and search engine. If not, stop here and post your results.
Make sure you don't repeat the mistake that led you to install this trojan. Chances are you got it from an Internet cesspit such as "Softonic" or "CNET Download." Never visit either of those sites again. You might also have downloaded it from an ad in a page on some other site. The ad has a large green button labeled "Download" or "Download Now" in white letters. The button is designed to confuse people who intend to download something else on the same page. If youever download a file that isn't obviously what you expected, delete it immediately.
You may be wondering why you didn't get a warning from Gatekeeper about installing software from an unknown developer, as you should have. The reason is that this Internet criminal has a codesigning certificate issued by Apple, which causes Gatekeeper to give the installer a pass. Apple could revoke the certificate, but as of this writing, has not done so, even though it's aware of the problem. This failure of oversight has compromised both Gatekeeper and the Developer ID program. You can't rely on Gatekeeper alone to protect you from harmful software.
Finally, be forewarned that when Genieo is mentioned on this site, the attacker sometimes shows up under the name "Genieo support." He will tell you to run a fake "uninstaller." As he intends, the uninstaller does not completely remove the malware, and is in fact malware itself.

  • How to get rid of the SAP BPC "three globes" startup screen?

    Hi,
I am trying to figure out how to get rid of the SAP BPC "three globes" startup screen when we start BPC. I do not want it to pop up.
I looked at VBA behind the workbooks but could not find anything. Could not make the sheet invisible.
Is there a way to get rid of the screen? This is the screenshot

    Thanks!

Just found the answer on this very forum!
Re: How to change the logo, (3 Globes) on the launch page
Posted: Mar 18, 2009 12:46 PM in response to: David Fletcher Reply
OK then, now v7sp03 for microsoft has hit the shelves, you can change the logo !!!
    It is quite easy.
Have the logo file ready in either BMP, GIF or JPG format.
Put it in your "Server Install -> DataWebFolders[Appset]" folder (so where you keep your files).
In ApplicationSet parameters, add the parameter COMPANY_LOGO and in the options type the name of the file you just put on the server.
Now if you restart BPC for Excel, the second excel page that pops up should be showing your new logo or graphic (mine did).
The use of the logo has been documented in the admin manual -> working with appset parameters
    Some tips.
I wanted not to clutter the filesystem so i put my logo in the appsetpublications folder and added the path accordingly in the parameter (so now it reads appsetpublicationslogoname.jpg instead of just logoname.jpg).
If you do not supply a name (only the parameter), your second Excel window (normally holding the graphic) will not appear. That could be an alternative too if you find that whole thing annoying.
Hope this helps you build great BPC apps,
    Edwin van Geel

  • How to get rid of files on time machine that no longer exist

I replaced my computer several months ago when my old one died. A large amount of data which was in a partition on my old computer is still on my time machine and is taking up a lot of space and forcing time machine to delete backups much sooner than I would like. I don't know how to get rid of it. If I try to delete that folder from an individual backup, I get the message, "The operation can't be completed because backup items can't be modified." Of course, I can't delete it from my new computer because it's not there! Any help appreciated.
    Marion

The best method is to archive the contents of the TC to a disk.. archive is available via the airport utility.
Simply plug in a USB drive large enough to store all the material presently on the TC, 1TB or 2TB or 3TB.. whichever model it is.
Archive I have drawn red box around.
Once the archive has completed ..
Use the Erase disk.. just the Quick erase is ok.. takes a couple of min and then you have a nice empty drive to start loading TM backups on.

You can reduce the size to normal, which is about 1GB, by restoring the phone.
Backing Up, updating, and restoring your iPhone and iPod touch software
The size of this part can increase when something goes wrong during a sync, or some files can't be read anymore by iTunes.

I have a 3rd generation ipod that a friend gave me. I cannot find anything on how to get rid of his name and music on it. This is what the owners manual says:
"Select ipod nano in the soiurce list and click the summary tab" I cannot find the source or the summary tab on itunes. Can any one help me? I would like to delete everything on it and start over but I am afraid I cannot add anything back on it. I know this is detailed and a lot, but I really need help.

    Restore
Note: Because Restore erases all of the songs and files on iPod, make sure toback up any files you've saved on the iPod disk. All of your songs, videos, podcasts, audiobooks, and games can be loaded back to your iPod provided that you have them stored in your iTunes Library.
How to restore your iPod:For Windows:
    1. Make sure you've reinstalled the latest version of iTunes.
    2. Open iTunes, and then connect your iPod to your computer.
    3. After a few moments, it will appear in the source list in iTunes. If the iPod's display doesn't show "Connected" or "Do not disconnect" you may need to put the iPod into disk mode to proceed.
    4. Select your iPod in the source list and you will see information about it appear in the Summary tab of the main iTunes windows.
    5. Click the Restore button. You will be prompted with one or more restore options that may prompt iTunes to automatically download of the latest iPod Software. The 4 possible restore options are:
Restore Option 1: Restore - Restores with same iPod Software version already on iPod.
Restore Option 2: Use Same Version - Restores with same iPod Software version already on iPod even though a newer version is available.
Restore Option 3: Use Newest Version - Restores with the latest iPod Software on your computer.
Restore Option 4: Restore and Update - Restores with the latest iPod Software on your computer.
    6. A progress bar will appear on the computer screen indicating that the first stage of the restore process has started. When this stage is completed, iTunes will instruct you to leave iPod connected to your computer to complete restore.
    7. During the stage 2 of the restore process, the iPod will show an Apple logo as well as a progress bar at the bottom of the display. It is critical that the iPod remains connected to the computer or iPod Power adapter during this stage. Note: The progress bar may be difficult to see since the backlight on the iPod display may be off.
    8. After stage 2 of the restore process is complete and the iPod is connected to the computer, the iTunes Setup Assistant window will appear asking you to name your iPod and choose your syncing preferences similar to when you connected your iPod for the first time.
    For Mac:

  • How to get rid of Adobe Reader on my OSX 10.9.5

I have a Mac mini, using OSX 10.9.5 and was forced to download Adobe Reader by Public Works, government of Canada, in order to print their document.  For starters this is SO wrong.
When I completed the download, Adobe Reader wanted me to approve it replacing my Preview, which I didn't want to do, so I answered NO.
Now I can't get into the damnable Adobe Reader to get rid of it.
Can you please let me know how to get rid of ALL of Adobe Reader from the download?
Thanks in advance for your anticipated help.

    Macintosh HD > Library > Internet Plug-ins
    Look for these two files.
    AdobePDFViewerNPAPI.plugin
    AdobePDFViewer.plugin
Right click on those and select “Move To Trash”.
    Restart the computer.

  • How to get rid of module snd_hda_codec_atihdmi?

I've got the audio card M-Audio Audiophile 24/96 and the graphics card ATI Radeon HD 3450. So I've got only one audio card, which was always sound card 0 and the default sound card and which shall remain sound card 0 and the default sound card. The graphics card doesn't have an HDMI interface.
Nevertheless I don't have sound anymore (without reconfiguring every audio software), because the module snd-hda-codec-atihdmi.ko is permanently, automatically loaded at boot time and put as sound card 0 and therefore the default sound card.
Putting !snd-hda-codec-atihdmi in the MODULES array of /etc/rc.conf doesn't help. And `rmmod snd-hda-codec-atihdmi` doesn't help either. Then it says, that this module is in use.
Is there a way, how to get rid of this - at least for me - annoying and senseless module?

bgc1954 wrote:One way to do this would be to compile your own kernel and only include support for your M-Audio sound card.  That way the kernel can't drag in support for the atihdmi thingy.  May be your only option if blacklisting and setting the order of your modules doesn't work.
I know this way, but I still hope, that there's another way.

  • How to get rid of pix in my iphoto library that are not imported?

I needed to clear the memory card of my husband's camera recently, and didn't have the canon software installed on my computer. So I tried using iphoto, but it crashed because the movies are high resolution and I guess iPhoto couldn't handle it. I managed to get them transferred another way, but now every time I launch iPhoto I get a message telling me that there are images in my iPhoto library that are not imported, and asking if I want to import them. If I try to import them, iPhoto crashes again. If I say "cancel" I get the same message again next time. I tried going into the finder to get rid of them but don't know where they are. No matter what I try to throw away, I still get the same message. How to get rid of those photos?

and didn't have the canon software installed on my computer.
You could also have used Image Capture in your Applications Folder.
but it crashed because the movies are high resolution and I guess iPhoto couldn't handle it.
iPhoto managed high resolution just fine. Perhaps you don't have the correct codec.
To solve you more immediate problem: go to your Pictures Folder and there you'll see your iPhoto Library Folder. Open it and inside you'll see a folder called 'Importing' or something close to that. Drag it to the desktop. Restart iPhoto. Does that help?

  • Somehow i have got mackeeper and the smartsearchnet on mac air. I do not know how to get rid of it! please help me

I have got mackeeper and smart search.net on my Mac air. I am new to mac's so i am so lost in how to get rid of things. Im not sure how i got it but i just want it gone now   mac book is only a couple months old so running all latest programmes on it. Can anyone help me please?

You may have installed a variant of the "VSearch" ad-injection malware. Follow Apple Support's instructions to remove it.
If you have trouble following those instructions, see below.
Malware is always changing to get around the defenses against it. This procedure works as of now, as far as I know. It may not work in the future. Anyone finding this comment a few days or more after it was posted should look for a more recent discussion, or start a new one.
The VSearch malware tries to hide itself by varying the names of the files it installs. To remove it, you must first identify the naming pattern.
Triple-click the line below on this page to select it, then copy the text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination  command-C:
    /Library/LaunchDaemons
    In the Finder, select
              Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar and paste into the box that opens by pressing command-V. You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.
A folder named "LaunchDaemons" may open. Look inside it for two files with names of the form
              com.something.daemon.plist
    and
               com.something.helper.plist
Here something is a variable string of characters, which can be different in each case. So far it has always been a string of letters without punctuation, such as "cloud," "dot," "highway," "submarine," or "trusteddownloads." Sometimes it's a meaningless string such as "e8dec5ae7fc75c28" rather than a word. Sometimes the string is "apple," and then you must be especially careful not to delete the wrong files, because many built-in OS X files have similar names.
If you find these files, leave the LaunchDaemons folder open, and open the following folder in the same way:
    /Library/LaunchAgents
In this folder, there may be a file named
              com.something.agent.plist
where the string something is the same as before.
If you feel confident that you've identified the above files, back up all data, then drag just those three files—nothing else—to the Trash. You may be prompted for your administrator login password. Close the Finder windows and restart the computer.
Don't delete the "LaunchAgents" or "LaunchDaemons" folder or anything else inside either one.
The malware is now permanently inactivated, as long as you never reinstall it. You can stop here if you like, or you can remove two remaining components for the sake of completeness.
    Open this folder:
    /Library/Application Support
If it has a subfolder named just
               something
where something is the same string you saw before, drag that subfolder to the Trash and close the window.
Don't delete the "Application Support" folder or anything else inside it.
    Finally, in this folder:
    /System/Library/Frameworks
there may an item named exactly
                v.framework
It's actually a folder, though it has a different icon than usual. This item always has the above name; it doesn't vary. Drag it to the Trash and close the window.
Don't delete the "Frameworks" folder or anything else inside it.
If you didn't find the files or you're not sure about the identification, post what you found.
If in doubt, or if you have no backups, change nothing at all.
The trouble may have started when you downloaded and ran an application called "MPlayerX." That's the name of a legitimate free movie player, but the name is also used fraudulently to distribute VSearch. If there is an item with that name in the Applications folder, delete it, and if you wish, replace it with the genuine article from mplayerx.org.
This trojan is often found on illegal websites that traffic in pirated content such as movies. If you, or anyone else who uses the computer, visit such sites and follow prompts to install software, you can expect more of the same, and worse, to follow. Never install any software that you downloaded from a bittorrent, or that was downloaded by someone else from an unknown source.
In the Security & Privacy pane of System Preferences, select the General tab. The radio button marked Anywhere  should not be selected. If it is, click the lock icon to unlock the settings, then select one of the other buttons. After that, don't ignore a warning that you are about to run or install an application from an unknown developer.
Then, still in System Preferences, open the App Store or Software Update pane and check the box marked
Install system data files and security updates (OS X 10.10 or later)
    or
Download updates automatically (OS X 10.9 or earlier)
