How to get rid of "other" space on iphone

My phone has 3.64 of "other" space.  How do I get rid of it??

You don't get rid of it as some of it is neccessary.
You can reduce the corrupt files by restoring your iphone.

I deleted some of my text message histories to get rid of 'other' space (6.33 gb). They were gone from iMessage, but they still showed up in search, so they were still taking up space on my phone. I synced my iPhone (4s) with iTunes but the messages are still there. How can I get rid of these texts for good and have more space on my phone? 6.33 gb of other space is way too much, thats almost half of my overall available space (13.5 gb.) I don't want to reset my phone and lose all my other texts/ app progress/ photos. I do have backups, but when I restore from the backup the other space comes back along with everything else. What can I do to get rid of this other space and the 'deleted' text messages? (I'm running iOS 6.1.3 if that helps)

But once again, I do not want to lose my other texts, app progress, and photos. I could sync the photos but i would still lose the app progress and texts. I would only restore if it was the only option left, but the other space, as already stated, isnt the main concern. The main concern is those 'deleted' texts. If they go, then a good size chunk of the other space goes. I know you CAN delete texts for good. It worked fine before. All i want to know is why its not working for me now, and how to fix it.
I also know that when you delete texts on your iphone, they get marked for deletion, however they stay on your device (thats why they show up when you search for them.) then when you sync your device with itunes, the texts marked for deletion should disappear. When i synced they didnt disappear. Thats what i need an explanation/solution for. Why the texts marked for deletion didnt get fully deleted after the sync.

  • How do i get rid of "other" space on my ipad?

hi there...just wondering how I get rid of the "other" space on my ipad....when in itunes to sync.....says there is 6.7GB of "other"....

Just remember that you cannot totally get rid of "other" nor do you want to do so because it contains notes, Safari history and bookmarks, contacts, email messages, text messages, and that type of data. As sberman states, it should be nowhere near that large, but you can't and don't want to get rid of all of it.
There are a bunch of other things that you can try before doing a full restore, but again, as stated above, sometimes the only thing that will work is to restore as new.
Take a look at some of these suggestions here.

  • Tried doing restore to get rid of "Other" Space, Error 3194, No Joy

I've read for a few days now and tried almost everything, to try to get rid of the dreaded "Other" Space.
See attached photo, 7.6 gigs on my 14 gig iphone 4s.
I downloaded my IOS version, and tried to restore as new as well , I believe, to the same IOS as I have now 7.0.4 but I get the error 3194. I do the hosts files thing to add and remove the gs.apple.com or whatever ip and domain name it is.
I've also tried just doing a restore. several times. I've gotten iFunbox and navigated and looked for stuff. I got PhoneClean and cleaned out the phone, it helps SOME but it still have 7.6 gigs of "Other" I don't want to update to 8, I hear it's not meant for the 4s.
any help to get me to be able to restore the IOS to the same version and clean the other space, would be much appreciated.

There have been conflicting reports on how iOS 8 works on the 4S. You can try getting rid of other by removing all content from your phone and by removing your music, etc. through a sync. Then sync that content back. A lot of other comes from problems with music syncing, issues with a lot of mail in an account, and data that does not fit in regular categories. However, the best method to clean the device the best you can is to restore.
The way to get rid of "other" is not to update, it is to restore. However, if you restore and are not using the latest iOS for your device, then you will be updating, yes.

  • How to get rid of extra spaces while TRANSFERing itab to PersentationServer

    Gurus,
we have a program which downloads the internal table to server using the TRANSFER statement.
    open dataset ---  BINARY MODE
    loop at ITAB.
    transfer ITAB-line to g_file.
    endloop.
    close dataset.
    This works fine.
The new requirement is we need to get rid of the spaces that are padded at the end.
ITAB data is RANDOM. The actual length of ITAB is 128 chars per line. Every 120 chars will have a eof char ( delimeter)
so the last line of ITAB may have 1 or 2 delimeters in it. if it is just 1 we can solve it using SEARCH and TRANSFER---length
if it gets 2 delimeters ?
    Thought????
    Any help is appreciated.
    Regards,
    Pete.

    Andreas,
    Thank you for the reply.
I did use that. What I meant to say is when you have more than one EOL char in last line how do you find the last EOL and transfer upto that length.
I used DO---ENDDO and checked for each existance of the EOL char. I am not pleased with what I am doing.
Is there any better way to this ?
    Version - 4.6c.
    Regards
    Pete.

  • How to get rid of other?

I have about 2 gigs worth of other on my iphone5 when or how can I get rid of all of it? It is wasting space!

if you look to the right under the [More like this] tag you will find several posts about what Other is and how to get rid of at least some of it
because if you want all of it gon you likely have to delete all your contacts and appointments and the likes too

  • How to get rid of 'other' data

I have masses and masses of 'other' data on my iphone. I have stripped it of all music (500 songs) and it has made no difference. I understand the data is most likely old apps etc not deleted properly, like a ghost trail. I have deleted all unnecessary texts, voicemails, calls, photos, internet history, etc. I have nothing left to delete data-wise. Does anyone know how to get rid of this 'other' data? It was literally taking 6.8gb of my 8gb phone, i have halved that by checking and unchecking 'automatically sync' in itunes, but still can't shift the rest. Really slowing my phone down

Most of the "other data" on my phone is the forced IOS 7 upgrade from Apple.
They push the upgrade(around 850 mb) and also reserve another huge chunk of space on the phone  to do a backup and install on the phone (mine is about 2.5 gigs after some manipulation).
If you do not want the upgrade, it just sits there on the phone.
    You can not remove it.
Apple will not sign and allow you to restore IOS 6 to your IOS 6 phone.
If you ever need to do a restore of the OS, you will be forced into IOS 7.
When a new upgrade is pushed to your phone, the amount of confiscated storage will accumulate with each subsequent release.
Apple can't be bothered to delete the older/outdated upgrade file being replaced by the new, hence the "other data" just grows over time. I have seen mine get to almost  6 gigs.
You can use Itunes on your computer to "download only/ not install" the newest update, then do a restore of your data and a sync. This appears to remove all the outdated updates from the phone.
You will however, still have about 2 gigs of your storage space still hijacked by Apple to store the most recent forced upgrade.
I am still on IOS 6 and plan on sticking with it simply for personal preference and vision reasons, as that is my prerogative.
It does perplex me why Apple refuses to make IOS 7 optional for users that have always had IOS 6. I can fully understand insisting that new devices run IOS 7, and obviously many IOS 6 users would have jumped anyway.
Apple needs to add an asterisk to word *adoption rate of IOS 7 in their corporate guidance statements.
They knowingly mislead given the current reality that ultimately no one can opt not to adopt it.

  • How to get rid of white space in EPS embedded in Word for letterhead template?

Does anyone know how to get rid of the white band in the bottom of this letterhead?
I embedded the EPS image (done via Illustrator) as a watermark in the header section of MS-Word.
It looks fine in the Word version, but as soon as I try to print the document - either via Word or via a PDF - that white
band on either side of the footer and underneath it keeps showing up. I can't get rid of it. I tried this on a PC and a Mac
and those white bands won't go away.
If anyone could let me know how to resolve this problem, I would be eternally grateful!
    Thank you.

If you want this to bleed, then you will have to print on oversize paper and trim or find a printer that will print borderless.

  • IPhone needs space / how to get rid of other

There is too much "other" on my iPhone. In the past I've done a reset (at least I think that's what it was called). It was not too hard but a bit nerve racking. Is there an easier way to clear out other?
    Thanks.

    Hi
As I see the white space you refer to is as shown below, am I correct?
Could you please get to this page in muse project and "select all items on a page" and check if there's any rectangle or div placed at the bottom ? If yes ! try removing the same and re-publish the site and check if that helps.
    Looking forward to your reply.
PS : Please uncheck the sticky footer option in Site properties and check if it works.

I have gone through everything on my phone to get rid of any extra storage yet the other isn't going away. It's taking up 7gb of my storage and i have already restored my phone. What do i do?

A  ' Large Other ' usually indicates Corrupt Data...
First Try a Restore from Backup...
But... if the Large Other Persists, that is an Indicator of Corrupt Data in the Backup...
Then a Restore as New is the way to go...

  • How to get rid of scratches on an iPhone?

Hi. I know that all iPhones get scratches and they are very minor, but are there any ways to get rid of them? I just bought a case whcich will hopefully prevent any in the future, but is there a way to get rid of the ones I have now? Thank you.

You can try taking it to a glass place.  However. I would just let them be and be more careful in the future.

  • How to get rid of other/corrupt data?

My phone:  iPhone 4s, 16gb, newest IOS 8.1 (newest right now) / Newest iTunes on computer
Multiple times now under IOS 8, I've attempted to sync my phone (only music) and suddenly 9+ gb of `other` data appear when I plug in my phone, which then deletes nearly all my music (which takes up about 8gb).  The red circle and square appear and I cannot play any songs.
I`ve tried restoring to new, but I don`t want to lose all my texts/contacts/notes etc. so I always end up backing it up, only to get the same problem yet again.  This is the 4th time now and sometimes it ends up going away but this time it isn't and it has been weeks.
When I check my data usage under my settings it says I have little to no space available, yet when I look at the division of the data between apps, my music is the highest at 750mb (the 100ish of my favourite songs i was able to squeeze into the space available), so i assume there is some sort of corrupt data I am unaware of.
I've called apple help in the past which fixed the problem by playing with my itunes and icloud sign in settings.  It fixed the issue, only to have it return the next week when I synced it again.
Has anyone else had this problem?  If so, what did you do to make it go back to normal?
Also, is there a way to restore to new, but also keep all texts/contacts/notes?  As I can simply re download apps and sync my music from my computer.
    Thanks for the help!

Yes, because you have corrupted data in your back up. As long as you keep loading from that corrupted back up, you'll have the same problem.
Your notes and contacts should be synced to something (e.g. iCloud, Gmail, etc). If you restore the phone as new and resync, you shouldn't loose them. Texts are a bit tricker. I use PhoneView (Mac) to make archive PDFs of text messages I want to keep. TouchCopy works for Mac and Windows. There's no good way that I know of to reload the texts. However, they may be part of the problem so, you may be better off archiving them (you could always copy a PDF of the texts back to the phone) and starting fresh.
    Best of luck.
