How to get rid of Yahoo?

Complete meltdown here. Prompted to reset my BTID, which then led to resetting password for Mail.
User name and Password - work OK on webmail, but trying to reset Mail on Mac and Mail on iPhone leads to nowhere.
Deleted email account - reset exactly as per instructions on website, time after time, will not connect, and constantly tells me user name and/or password are invalid. I know they are OK (I've now probably typed them over a hundred times!)
Only clue to problem is reference to "Email type - Yahoo". Connection doctor reports "logging in to Yahoo! IMAP account failed".
I understood that Yahoo was ouit of the picture - how do I clear out these recurring references. I am unable to access mail at all unless through Webmail (where the same user name and password work!)
I've just about had it with BT. Over a hour "chatting" to someone in India yesterday was a pain, and now several hours today. Can someone help, please?

Quelch, whilst I'm sure that your 'fixes' work (at the moment I have not been migrated or re-migrated) the problem is surely that BT/Openwave have made an unholy mess of this migration. I have a feeling that it might be better for BT to state the blindingly obvious, apologise profusely, give us all a free month's broadband (some people who have complained have been given this but I suspect not all) and send a general e-mail and advertise on other media that their e-mail service will close down for 1 or 2 or however long they think it will take to fix it and then FIX IT!!!!
I absolutely agree - I'm just trying to try and help people with the diagnosis bit - because the basic 1st tier customer support from BT is so awful (and has been for a long time) - and communications with customers has still not ever been prioritised by management. But I see no signs of that ever changing.
My starting point is that the system is in meltdown regularly and that this has gone on for years. The migration is an unmitigated disaster, and the whole signin process has become impossibly complicated - particularly the business of BT ID versus individual email account access.
Again - I have no confidence of anyone coming up with solutions and I have no expectation that BT will ever tell me what is actually happening.
A long time ago I took the precaution of finding 3rd party email, and gradually switching all my contacts to it.
I have NO data on the web interface, nothing in the folders, no contacts, and all accounts are set to forward mail without saving copies, to my 3rd party provider.
I still dread the thought of migration eventually hitting me - I shall try and avoid using webmail at all until the whole thing has settled down and hope my pop3/smtp access is not trashed during the process. I expect the forwarding settings to my 3rd party provider to be lost during the migration but hopefully that will only affect the spam, as I receive virtually no legitimate email on any BT accounts.
BT like other large ISPs regard email as an inconvenience and an expense. It is not contractually obliged to make it work, so it becomes a simple matter of PR damage limitation. Hence the lack of information. It's always safest to say nothing, and with no contractual issues that they could be sued over, that method works. They won't lose enough customers to affect the bottom line, and they will collect far more than they lose, with the loss leaders, cheap broadband offers and TV packages.
Are BT worried? I don't think so. Their ex CEO is a Government minister with a peerage.

Since I looked everywhere for this answer and never found it I decided I needed to help!
1. GO TO THE TOOL BAR WHERE IT SAYS SAFARI AND CLICK TO BRING DOWN THE MENU OF OPTIONS, CLICK ON PREFERENCES
2.INSTEAD OF JUST CLICKING ON THE GENERAL TAB AND CHANGING THE SEARCH ENGINE LIKE EVERY OTHER STUPID SUPPORT TELLS YOU TO DO LOOK AT THE TAB THAT SAYS EXTENSIONS.
3. Chances are you downloaded something that was made by a third party to "enhance" your web experience but really they just screwed you over, YOU CAN CHOOSE TO SIMPLY UNINSTALL ANY EXTENSIONS PUT ON YOUR COMPUTER BY CLICKING INSTALL, BUT TO BE SURE THAT THIS IS THE ROOT OF YOUR PROBLEM IN THE SECOND COLUMN SIMPLY CLICK ON THE UNDERLINED NAME OF WHO THE EXTENSION IS MADE BY IF CLICKING THE LINK BRINGS UP A YAHOO PAGE THIS IS THE SOURCE OF YOUR ISSUES AND SIMPLY UNINSTALLING THIS WILL RID YOU OF THIS DUMB PROBLEM!!
HOPE THIS HELPS!!!!

• How to get rid off yahoo search?

when i search something from google search (in a webpage) it goes to the yahoo search website and show the results!
1.) there is no extension on add-ons, anything to do with search or yahoo
2.) i have tried reset the keyword.url from configuration
3.) i also tried to remove yahoo search engine from searchbar (didn't help)
This article didn't help either (same as above though): https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/remove-toolbar-has-taken-over-your-firefox-search?esab=a&as=aaq
And i have avast and malware-program and those doesn't find anything.
No help. Everytime i search something in google, it goes to the yahoo search webpage! how to get rid of this yahoo rubbish?
I have no idea how it came. Maybe something to do with vlc codec pack? "Myfreecodec" that i tried to use when trying to play some mp4-file... i think i haven't installed anything else lately... And i always uncheck the "add this one on your browser..."

Where in my control panel can I find this and uninstall it? I do not see it in programs. Thanks. (I have the same problem and it is making me crazy)

• How to get rid of yahoo contacts syncing?

Reposting from another board, because I wasn't getting any replies there.
I had to set up an iPod touch for my boss's son a while a go and I used Yahoo address book syncing at that time. Now, few months later, I got a 3GS for myself and whenever I sync it with my iTunes at work(Vista machine), Yahoo contacts sync window comes up, warning me that it's about to erase all of my contacts. I get a choice of canceling it, but it's still really annoying, especially since I have contact syncing turned off for my phone. Please help!

Choose Preferences from the Safari menu, open the General pane if needed, and change it. If that doesn't work, open the Extensions tab and turn off everything you don't recognize.

• Please show me how to get rid of yahoo search COMPLETELY! I prefer google to search in the center search bar like I used to have even though it is on the search task bar

After adding a program yahoo has hijacked the search bar on the center start screen. I still have google in the task bar but would like it to also search on the main search box like it used to. I have looked for hours trying to find a fix but will wait for your response before changing to google chrome, as I am fond of firefox and it's features. I have witnessed many others with the same feeling and wish for the freedom to choose their default browser away from yahoo. It is a step in reverse to not be able to change it !!!

Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of the extensions or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).
*Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.

• How to get rid of Yahoo's "Sorry, Request-URI Too Large"

Whenever I "search" for anything, some message pops up from Yahoo preventing the search.

This issue can be caused by corrupted cookies.
Clear the cache and the cookies from sites that cause problems.
"Clear the Cache":
* Tools > Options > Advanced > Network > Offline Storage (Cache): "Clear Now"
"Remove Cookies" from sites causing problems:
* Tools > Options > Privacy > Cookies: "Show Cookies"
If clearing the cookies doesn't help then it is possible that the file cookies.sqlite that stores the cookies is corrupted.
Rename (or delete) cookies.sqlite (cookies.sqlite.old) and delete cookies.sqlite-journal and cookies.txt, if they exist, in the Firefox Profile Folder in case the file cookies.sqlite got corrupted.

• How can I get rid of Yahoo Search starting up everytime I click + to open a new tab

I recently downloaded a product (can't remember what it was) but
it included the Yahoo Search Toolbar. Now, although I have
disabled the ToolBar, everytime I click on + to open a new tab it
ALWAYS brings up Yahoo Search Box before I can type in the ULR I am wanting to open. It's driving me mad.
Can anyone tell me how to get rid of Yahoo Search Box. It does
not appear in "Add or remove programs"
Thank you

Try deleting the Safari .plist file. Preferences can become corrupted.
Open a Finder window. From the Finder menu bar click Go > Go to Folder
Type or copy paste the following:
~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.Safari.plist
Click Go the move the com.apple.Safari.pist file to the Trash.
Quit and relaunch Safari and check Safari > Preferences > General. Make sure Google is selected.

• How do I permanently get rid of Yahoo in the search bar?

I "Manage Search Engines" and remove it, but every time I restart Firefox it's there again as the default. How do I get rid of Yahoo permanently? It is not my chosen search engine, and brings up very limited results.

Nothing here works (1/22/2012). The only thing I could do was go to the Firefox tab in the left corner, go to Help, click Restart with Add-ons Disabled, wait for the little window to come up and check reset everything then click restart to make Yahoo go away. Of course my other tabs went away, but I had the URLs written down anyway. Now Google is my default engine again.

• How Can I get rid of Yahoo home page? Changing home page doesn't work.

A week or two ago, Yahoo started coming up as my home page. No matter how many times I change it back to Bing, every time I bring up Firefox, there is Yahoo as the home page. Changing it back to Bing and clicking ok is not working. I'm getting a little frustrated with this. How do I get rid of Yahoo coming up as my home page when I did not even ask for it?
Thank you for your time and consideration.
Sincerely,
cbrsarah

How do I get rid of Yahoo? When Firefox starts up Yahoo is the home page and I hate it. How do I get rid of it?

Got this fixed.
I deleted Yahoo as a search engine.
To do this: on the right hand side of a toolbar there is a pull down menu which contains "manage search engines". Select this and remove "Yahoo".
BTW: the "Tools" - "Options" - "remove hardware acceleration.. " did not work.
