How to get router to recognise 5ghz device?

Hi all.
I recently bought a new wireless adapter, as I was only getting around 56mbps with my old one. I'm now getting 130-144.5mbps, which is a great improvement. However, my adapter should be capable of providing a speed faster than that - if not the full 300mbps advertised, at least around 200mbps.
The thing is, my BT HomeHub 4 doesn't recognise it as a 5ghz device. I've checked and it is a 5ghz capable device. I tried giving the 5ghz network a different SSID name, but the name is not appearing in the network list, so I can't connect to it.
I want to at least give 5ghz a try to see if it provides any noticeable performance increase. Is there a setting I have to change in the Hub to make it connect to my PC via 5ghz? I don't want to change to 5ghz only as there are numerous other devices in the house, most of which are not compatible with 5ghz.

it is a 5ghz device.
Don't want to interfere with "soapy". He was very quick to spot that the adaptor will only connect at 2.4GHz.
Linsky's information seems to be misleading, but it does refer to the PC's network card. and not a USB plug-in adaptor.
A check on a HP laptop shows that the 801n (or is it 802n?) card is 2.4 GHz only.
A Netgear Wireless N dual band USB adaptor, Type WNDA3100 v2 will cost around £29.00, but I don't think you'll get 300mbps, or even with your own adaptor, even though it says it will.
The Netgear shows a better signal than the PC's own card, if it means anything.

How to get safari to recognise quicktime?

I use safari for windows and seem unable to make certain media content play. I get the message; 'The page .... has content of MIME type "application/x-mplayer2". Because you don't have a plug-in installed....' which I believe refers to media player. I have media player, quicktime and realplayer installed but can't get safari to recognise any of them (but preferably quicktime). I am not too technically savvy. HELP please!! thank you vm in advance to anyone who can suggest anything.

Is the setting to Forward IMs to the Phone set in iChat > Preferences > Accounts ?
Does your Phone Service support IMs from outside their Network ?
I presume though that you are sending text to a number (+1234567890) rather than forwarding ?

How to get NAS drive as a "device" not "shared" entry in Folder??

I have several NTFS mount points available on my network. I can connect to them just fine if I "connect to server" with the smb://networkaddress/mountpoint functionality.
The problem is the device shows up in the Folder under the "Shared" area, not the "Devices" area. As a result, I can't do a "Save As" in an application and 'find" that NAS point in order to save the file. I have to save to the local drive then copy to the NAS.
So how can I connect to the NAS point so it shows up as "disk drive?"
Second question -- is there a way to automate the connection so every time I boot my MBP it connects to and mounts the drive?

Yes, I have write access. I think the problem may be that Apple has altered AFP (for security fixes and problems with Time Capsule) and the software on other servers has not caught up. I understand from another thread that "Command K" (Connect to server) uses IPv4, whereas connecting to sharepoints via the Sidebar, where the server shows up under Shared, uses IPv6.
Whatever the reason, as of now SMB works through either route. As for AFP, I can connect to the server via Cmd K, select the sharepoints, and they will mount to the desktop. I can open them and read and write to them. In the Sidebar however the server shows as mounted under Shared - but as "Servername", NOT "Servername AFP". (In the Sidebar "Servername AFP" appears, but not as mounted. See IPv4 /IPv6 above.) When I try to unmount them - either from the desktop or the sidebar - they won't, the Finder freezes and will not restart, and I have to shut down with the power button. If I select "Servername AFP" in the Sidebar, the window changes, as it should, to say "Connecting As". But nothing happens - it will not even display the sharepoints.
Yes, I can drag the sharepoint icon from its open window to the sidebar under Devices, but this does not solve the mounting and unmounting problems, quite apart from the fact that a sharepoint that mounts to the desktop as a volume should show up automatically in the sidebar as well if you have that option selected in the Finder preferences.

How to get iTunes to recognise my iPhone 3G,

I have recently been given my daughter's old iPhone 3G. It has supposedely been unlocked by O2 and I have now a t-mobile sim card in it. I can ring out and receive messages but iTunes does not recognise it as a device. I have now tried entering an iPod but it is not recognised either. I have uninstalled iTunes and reinstalled the latest version. Still no recognition. Any suggestions please?

Unfortunately for some routers, you do have to use Internet Explorer to access them. You should have Internet Explorer on your computer (if not in the All Programs list, open up windows update, that is Internet Explorer). so you can then access that IP, and get your network key.
For future reference, write the network key down and take it to the side of your router, it makes it easier in the future :)

While creating content for a Flipped Classroom, I suddenly realised that Captivate cannot recognise Tamil Language fonts.
The fonts spells TSC_Thunaivan Normal ....
MS Powerpoint is able to recognise without issue.
Anyway to over come this issue ?

Search for Captivate 8
On the Captivate 8 page -- click "Try" (on the right), next to the buy button
Download the product
So essentially you are downloading the product to "TRY" and you adobe ID and Password will unlock it to USE.

How to get the ASM to OS device name mapping

Hi all,
This seems to be an often answered question, but usually the answers specify what to do on the OS (e.g. run oracleasm etc) and/or in the ASM database running on the ASM Host (select * from V$...).
In our situation have plug-ins collecting data from Agents. Plugins collect data from Oracle db/ASM targets and from storage arrays.
Back on the OMS we want to be able to report on the ASM to OS device name mapping. To report, we use either the default metadata UI (i.e. data from the sysman.mgmt_emx_... tables) or we have a BI Publisher report that queries the OEM Repository Database (and can join the ECM tables from the different plug-ins).
The link between the ASM path and the OS device name does not seem to be collected by either the Oracle DB/ASM plug-in, nor by any other plug-in (Host/Storage/...).
It would be easy to go to Linux and run a few commands, but we need to support multiple platforms, like AIX, Solaris x86, Windows as well.
A complicating factor is that ASM can be installed in different configurations, e.g. using ASMlib or using udev...
I really suspect this wheel has been invented before?! Or is it really a matter of having multiple OS-specific low-level scripts and adding a bunch of instance parameters for allowing the user to specify all OS-specific path/utility names etc?
Any suggestions welcome... :-)
