How to get safari to recognise quicktime?

I use safari for windows and seem unable to make certain media content play. I get the message; 'The page .... has content of MIME type "application/x-mplayer2". Because you don't have a plug-in installed....' which I believe refers to media player. I have media player, quicktime and realplayer installed but can't get safari to recognise any of them (but preferably quicktime). I am not too technically savvy. HELP please!! thank you vm in advance to anyone who can suggest anything.

Safari preferences Security tab.
Make sure you've enabled browser plug-ins.

  • How to get Safari to ask if I want to download

Using other browsers, I can set the preferences not to immediately start a download. I can set them to ask me if I am ready to download. How do I do that with Safari?

Went there, read it, no mention at all of how to get Safari to allow me to choose whether to download or not. I am sure you haven't seen this option in Safari either, and that's why you thought Apple's guide would provide some solution for my not knowing the Safari routines. In fact, I am quite familiar with the use of Safari other than this one ommision: how to get an option to choose to download a file. You see, many download links do not show the file name. Only after Safari begins to download can I see the file name in its download list, which is difficult to use, as it shows the oldest download at the top and the active download is far down at the bottom of the list. That leaves me scrolling and looking to find out if it is either a Windows-only file (.exe) or a file I may already have. In those case, I have to cancel the download, or if I am not fast enough, I must trash a file that I didn't want in the first place. With all other browsers (Firefox, Internet Explorer, Opera, Chrome, etc.) I can choose to allow the download to proceed or cancel it based on the small window that appears showing the file name after I click the link on the webpage. Surely Safari has that option also.

  • How to Get Safari to STOP asking for Password

Whenever I start up Safari for the first time, it annoyingly asks for a password, and I've dismissed this prompt without typing in any passwords, and I've been able to continue doing what I'm doing. But how do I get Safari to stop asking for a password? I've read similar posts but nothing has been asked in exactly this way, as far as I can tell. What I've done:
    - Gone into Keychain Access and deleted the only Safari-related item I find there, called "Safari Forms Autofill." This works temporarily but the password prompt comes back again, and this item appears again in Keychain Access.
    - Gone into Safari Prefs Autofill and made sure Passwords was unchecked; it was.
    Any ideas?

Aha, I've answered my own question: You have to uncheck the "Other Forms" option in Safari Auto-Fill Prefs as well. Ho ho ho all.

  • How to get safari to remember login and password after I said do not remember

I went to a website through Safari and logged in and accidentally hit Never remember for this site and now I cannot get safari to remember the login and password. I have gone through preferences/passwords and the site is not listed and it will not allow me to add a site.  I would love help with this since I log on to this site just about every day! Any suggestions?

It might be a corrupted keychain ...
Open Keychain Access located in HD > Applications > Utilities
Open Keychain Access then select Passwords on the left.
Right or control click a keychain then click Delete.
Back to Safari. Login to the website you want the password autofilled.
Click Yes when prompted to save that data to a new keychain.
Keep in mind, not all websites espcially financial institutions allow the autofill feature.

  • How to get Safari to open an HTML document created in AIR on iOS

We have an iOS app that creates a 3-page HTML document on the user's device and then prints it. We were using Darkredz ANE to do this, but the ANE is broken in iOS 8 and the Darkredz website is abandoned.
As a workaround, we want to use Safari to launch the HTML document, then print from Safari. But Safari won't open a local document that belongs to another app, probably because of the security sandbox. We don't have a network connection, so we can't save the file remotely. Is there a way to get Safari to open a local document?
If not, does anyone know of a FileManager app that can open files that are located in the "documents" folder of other apps on the device? I've tried several of them, but so far, they only load files from iCloud, Box, etc.
    Thanks for any tips.

Sorry I didnt think about it needing to print as 3 separate pages at specific points. If you can't get the HTML printing to work then you could keep could this thought in mind. If the height of the, I presume, HTMLLoader object is the right value, you can draw the white-space of the page into the BitmapData and then it might still print at the right location. If it doesn't work immediately and you felt like putting in a little more effort, you might be able to tweak the height of the HTMLLoader objects so that each one represents a single page. Granted this approach would likely only work for one paper size format, such as 8.5x11. Sorry I don't have any easier ideas that work with what you already have done so far

  • How to get Safari on Mac to play Flash output?

I'm trying to get Safari on a Mac to play the "multiscreen.html" file. But all I get is a Flash playbar at the very top of the browser window and nothing else at all (this happens with FireFox, too). I'd like to do this because our client wants to release just one url for the project to their people (so the same url works with Explorer 7+, Chrome, Safari on Mac and iPad). Is there a way to do this, or will they have to have a separate url for their people using a Mac?

Go to System Preferences>icloud to log into an icloud account.
If you can't find the icloud icon in preferences, then your OSX is not compatible with it.  You need to upgrade the OSX if your mac is capable to upgrading.
Which mac and which OSX do you have?

  • How to get SAFARI to open as a FULL WINDOW Screen

    Hey there people.
Please help. How do I open Safari and get it to fill the whole screen rather than just the middle. I've looked up preferences and general appearances but nothing seems to indicate full screen. It's annoying as I cannot see the full webpage and having to scroll to the right all the time.
    Thanks in advance.
    Joanna

    Hi Joanna,
Sadly, Safari doesn't offer full screen as a standard option. You can get Saft (http://haoli.dnsalias.com/Saft/index.html), an extension (shareware) for Safari, that will allow you to do fullscreen with Safari and add many other options to it.
If you don't feel like paying anything for fullscreen, you can get Firefox 2 (http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/) and eventually get the much faster and better Firefox 3 (that will be release in the coming months).
P.S.: Next time, try posting in the right category of the forum, hence Safari. You'll get a faster answer. (http://discussions.apple.com/index.jspa?categoryID=1)

  • How to get Safari back

    Hello,
I was trying to do a good deed by organizing and deleting unneeded files etc. I'm not sure how I did it, but I moved Safari to the trash and I can't get it back. It's not in my applications, nor am I able to access the internet when clicking on an icon that is a direct path to the internet. I tried to download it back to my harddrive, but it is saying there isn't enough room.
    Does this make sense?

Try using Pacifist to extract the Safari application from the Mac OS X 10.4 installation disk, and then run the combo updater for your version of Mac OS X and all Safari updaters applicable to your configuration.
If you don't have a web browser available on that machine, use the Finder's Connect to Server command to navigate to one of the FTP sites on this page, copy iCab to your computer, and use that to download Pacifist.

  • How to get Safari to open window upon launch?

I have my user login items set to launch Mail and Safari upon boot.  All is well with Mail.  However, now when I boot and Safari luanches it does not open a new window like it used to do, but simply shows in the Dock as launched.  I then have to click on it to open its homepage window.  It used to open the homepage window upon boot/launch.  How do I get this back?  Thanks!

Go to ~/Library/Preferences. Move the com.apple.Safari.plist file to the Desktop.
    Restart your Mac.
If that helped, move the .plist file to the Trash. If not, move it back to the Preferences folder.
~ (Tilde) character represents your Home folder.

  • How to get router to recognise 5ghz device?

    Hi all.
I recently bought a new wireless adapter, as I was only getting around 56mbps with my old one.  I'm now getting 130-144.5mbps, which is a great improvement.  However, my adapter should be capable of providing a speed faster than that - if not the full 300mbps advertised, at least around 200mbps.
The thing is, my BT HomeHub 4 doesn't recognise it as a 5ghz device.  I've checked and it is a 5ghz capable device.  I tried giving the 5ghz network a different SSID name, but the name is not appearing in the network list, so I can't connect to it.
I want to at least give 5ghz a try to see if it provides any noticeable performance increase.  Is there a setting I have to change in the Hub to make it connect to my PC via 5ghz?  I don't want to change to 5ghz only as there are numerous other devices in the house, most of which are not compatible with 5ghz.
    Thanks in advance.

How do I check whether 5ghz is enabled in the HH?
    Incidentally, this is my adapter:
    TP-Link TL-WN822N 300MBPS High Gain Wireless N USB Adapter
According to the advice in this site:
    http://kb.linksys.com/Linksys/GetArticle.aspx?docid=5d3d2c64da344e53b0b6fde444bf86e1_Checking_if_you...
    it is a 5ghz device.
Don't want to interfere with "soapy". He was very quick to spot that the adaptor will only connect at 2.4GHz.
Linsky's information seems to be misleading, but it does refer to the PC's network card. and not a USB plug-in adaptor.
A check on a HP laptop shows that the 801n (or is it 802n?) card is 2.4 GHz only.
A Netgear Wireless N dual band USB adaptor, Type WNDA3100 v2 will cost around £29.00, but I don't think you'll get 300mbps, or even with your own adaptor, even though it says it will.
The Netgear shows a better signal than the PC's own card, if it means anything.

  • How to get Safari bookmarks into iPad Air?

I have an iMac running the current version of OS X. Also have an iPad Air with IOS 8.1.3. How can I get my Safari bookmarks on the iMac over to this iPad? Because of Apple no longer allowing simple ID's, I had to create a new ID. Trying to use this same ID on my iMac, iPad, and iPhone did not work - I spent hours trying to sort that out and gave up. Anyway, how can I get my bookmarks copied over?
    Thanks, Jim

Oh, if I only knew the answer to that question. Somewhere, somehow, something got screwed up with my "new" Apple ID and the underlying email accounts. I spoke on the phone to an Apple support guy who finally gave up after 30 minutes. As it stands now, all three devices see the same email messages - very good thing. However contacts, notes and anything else on the iMac are not shared on th iPhone and iPad. The goofy thing is that those items DO share between the iPhone and the iPad, but anything I do on either of those devices is not sync'd over to the iMac. I've spent so much time messing with it that my head hurts. I wish I could simply clear out all three and start over, but the way things have worked out so far, I'd probably wind up with NOTHING working. Very, very annoying.

  • How to get safari to open to the last page I was on and screens to enlarge automatically?

Hello, I just upgraded to the latest iMac version from my 2010 model, and whenever I close and open up safari it opens to top siotes instead of the last page I was on, and every time I open it I have to enlarge it myself by clicking the arrows in the top right. Same happens with everything else, like the app store. How do I change this so whenever I go to safari it opens to the last page I was on and has safari, app store, etc. have large screens right away? I set up my old iMac 3 years ago, and I guess I must've done something to have it do this, but I forgetn what I did. Thank you in advance

    Hello there, Clumn.
The following Knowledge Base article provides some general tips for Mavericks that may address your issue:
    OS X Mavericks: General preferences
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ph13803
    Particularly of note:
Close windows when quitting an application
If you quit apps with windows still open on your screen, selecting this checkbox prevents the windows from reopening automatically the next time you start their app.
This feature when not selected will allow the application to reopen windows automatically when you open the app.
Additionally, this article provides information on how to set windows Full Screen:
OS X Mavericks: Take apps full screen

  • How to get Safari printing images in proper resolution?

I have problems printing high resolution images from a web page.
Example: When printing a 300 dpi image that measures 5 x 6 inches Safari rescales this image to a resolution of about 282 dpi which results in a slightly larger image. The web page contains CSS definitions with the correct image size. It is suspicious that the printed images always seem to be rescaled by 6.348%. I tried different CSS definitions and page structures with the same result.
When the CSS definition for the image size is increased by 6.348% the resolution and image size fits the original values and dimensions.
    What about this magical 6.348%?
The problem is verified on 10.4.11 and 10.5 with Safari 3.0.1 on different machines with all kind of images in every resolution you can think of, with different printer drivers (but I do not think this is relevant) - all images are rescaled by this magic factor. I tried all kind of printer settings, took a look at the Library plists related to printing ... Please help me.
It is weird that Safari offers ICC support for color proof matches but is not able to print an image with its correct resolution/dimensions. Firefox for example does not touch the image resolution, why the heck Safari does?

    Hi Ned,
Website builders are using maximum 75 DPI images. These are to small i quality for other use when you are looking for quality images. The reason for using images in small size like 75 DPI is to prevent that the website is getting to big in size, an for using them on the internet they are good enough for best viewing.
QuickTimeKirk is right to get better images from a website. If the developer is NOT offering a downloadble better quality you have to do it with the on they offer.
