How to get Samsung F34BN movies into iMovie

I just got a Samsung F34BN for Christmas and I can't see from the instructions how to import its movies into iMovie (either 6, 8, or 9). Help OB1, your my only hope

I have a samsung hmx-h100...try this...if the camcorder came with windows software, turn it off in the camera's menu setting...if it has a memory card (like mine), once you've taken your video, connect the usb cable to your mac...the camera should mount on your desktop...double click the samsung icon, navigate to the video folder, and you should see your video clips...drag them onto the desktop...then open up your version of imovie, click import, and select the clips on your desktop...I had various degree of success doing that with imovie 6...imovie 8 handled it well...the other thing you can do if you want to use imovie 6 is use MPEG Streamclip, drag your clips into it, then export to quicktime...you should then be able to import your quicktime movie into imovie 6 and edit...

  • How can I import a movie into iMovie 09 from a hard drive?  The movie will open and play in idvd but breaks into separate files that can't be downloaded when I try to import.  Can it be done?

How can I import a movie into iMovie 09 from a hard drive?  The movie will open and play in idvd but breaks into separate files that can't be downloaded when I try to import.  Can it be done? I am trying to create a disc of player highlights for a collegiate coach, and I am using movie files downloaded to my hard drive from a DVD created on a PC.

No unfortunately it won't open in quicktime either.  It does the same thing that Imovie does, separates it into two file folders audio and video, and if i select video it opens to reveal 8 files that cannot be selected.  VIDEO_TS.BUP, VIDEO_TS.IFO, VIDEO_TS.VOB,VTS_01_0.BUP, VTS_01_0.IFO, VTS_01_1.VOB, VTS_01_2.VB, VTS_01_3.VOB.  All of which cannot be opened or selected.
Opening it in Idvd and folllowing your suggestion works and I get a format code of NTSC.  Is that the same?  Thank you for your time and response.

  • How to get my SD movies onto imovie??

I have a new canon camera and have been using it for movies as well as for photos. The clips seem to import to iphoto but, for the life of me, I can't get them into imovie to edit - either with a card reader or by transferring them from iphoto.
I am sure this topic has been covered, but I can't seem to find a relevant post. This camera does record in HD, which I have heard has problems, but I am not using the hd settings. How can I get my movies into imovie? Also, does it take up colossal amounts of room to store videos on a smaller hard drive ( my macbook is only 80 GB ) I wonder should I backing them up to an external drive right away, for storage purposes..? That is if I manage to actually import the video....
Is the card reader the problem? It is quite new and I have had no other problems using it with other devices. Many thanks....

have you read and watch the Tutorials..? :

iM is a bit.. iffy, when it comes to the definition, what a 'camera' is. historically, only tape based machines were a movie-camera. nowadays still-cams allow movin' images too..
but, as mentioned above: the intended workflow is: material from photo cameras (even when they move) => import via iPhoto; material from video cameras (even when they don't move.. ) => iMovie
when the import is done, you'll notice in all iLife apps the 'media browser' - in iM09, on the very right, the icon with a camera on.. click it, presto, all (incl. your 'videos') your iPhoto Library at hand for usage in iMovie.

  • How to download iphone 4 movies into iMovie on my Mac?

Does anyone know how to download the movies on my new iPhone 4 to iMovie on my mac? I can get them into iPhoto but I really want to just bring them directly into iMovie and go from there. Thanks!

Here are two links that have a writeup about this subject. I printed them out for a user's guide. They talk about exporting for imovie on the mac.

  • How to get longer text boxes into iMovie

I'm hoping to input longer quotes and text into iMovie HD 6. I thought I got around this problem by creating a ppt with the appropriate text, saving the slides as jpgs, moving them to iPhoto, and then importing them into my movie (long process!). Unfortunately, the text comes out blurry.
How can I simply write the text into iMovie when it's longer than a sentence? Or else how can I create some image with the text that I can import and it will show up clearly?

I have the same problem - I want to have a ticker-style text scrolling at the bottom, but for texts longer than 200 words the font becomes blurrier and harder to read, and by the time the text reaches 500 words it's completely illegible. This does not seem to be affected by how long the ticker-box lasts (same problem for when it's 7 minutes as 2 minutes), though splitting a 4 minute, 400 word string into two 2 min, 200 word strings helps if you put them into two seperate "ticker" instances. But then you have an unwanted gap in the middle between when one ticker ends and the other starts.
So, why is the text quality so ******?

  • How do import my avi movie into iMovie? And camera help.

I know that these topics have been posted before and I've searched for a solution to no success. I want to import the m ovies I record on my Canon (Ixus 55/Powershot SD450) into my iMovie. BUt whenever I drag the movie file from my desktop to iMovie I get a bouncing icon and it tells me it is not a valid format. I'm sure I have the DivX codec on my Mac, can anyone suggest why it is not working?
While I'm at it, does anyone know of digital cameras of similar standing that will record mpg and iPhoto will erase the content of once it has imported?

If your DVD's are encrypted, Hollywood doesn't want you to be able to figure out how to copy them.  Encryption is used in all store bought DVD's.

  • How to input iFrame movies into iMovie

I have a new Canon SX 50 with has something called iframe video format which is supposed to be an apple friendly way to get hi def video into iMovie.
I am using an iMac with iMovie 11 and for the life of me can not figure out how to get the movie file into iMovie.
I insert the sd card into the imac and it downloads the photos and vids into iPhoto.   But when I open iMovie and try to insert the video file it will not let me.  I have pulled the video onto the desktop and tried that way to no avail.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks
    Gus

First, try this. Insert the SD card. In iMovie, use FILE/IMPORT FROM CAMERA and see if it sees the card.
If that does not work, try this.
In iMovie, click FILE/IMPORT MOVIE and navigate to the SD card and your iframe files.

  • I have a short homemade film burnt onto a DVD, I now want to import the movie into IMOVIE on my MacBook Pro so that I can edit it, how would I go about doing this? Welcoming any guidance.  Thanks in advance.

I have a short homemade film burnt onto a DVD, I now want to import the movie into IMOVIE on my MacBook Pro so that I can edit it, how would I go about doing this? Welcoming any guidance.  Thanks in advance.

    1. Insert your DVD.
    2. Open Disk Utilities (Application> Utilities> Disk Utilities). Highlight your DVD and press "New Image" on the upper toolbar.
    3. Choose the location you would like to save your DVD from the drop down menu, "Desktop" is usually the best choice. Then click Save.
    4. When finished, your DVD icon will appear on the desktop with the .dmg extension.
    5. With iMovie open, double-click the .dmg  file you created to mount it. The iMovie import window will then appear asking you to choose. Click Import All and wait for the Import to complete.

  • Having trouble getting Quicktime movies into iMovie

Hi everyone. I'm on an iBook with OS 10.3.9 and I'm working with Quicktime 7.0.3 and iMovie 4.0.1. I've been making a student film, and I've been trying to drag or import Quicktime movies into iMovie to edit and use. However, when I attempt to do so, it doesn't work and I get a message that reads, "Can't open file (insert file name here); skipping it and continuing." Is there any way to fix this problem without having to get Quicktime Pro? Thanks.
    Brian

Thanks for your reply. I'm pretty sure the files are indeed mpegs. I tried out the program you sent, and it worked for the first clip when I converted it into DV. For some reason, when I tried importing the next two mpeg movies, I got a message that said, "The DV File (insert name here) is the wrong video standard and cannot be imported into this project." Any reason why that should be happening? Thank you very much for your first reply.

  • How to download a DVD movie into Premiere Elements 12 using my MacBook Pro so I can edit the video?

How to download a DVD movie into Premiere Elements 12 using my MacBook Pro so I can edit the video?

    Bob Perez
Please review and consider the following which works for me in Premiere Elements 12 Window 64 bit.
From what you wrote, I suspect that you have DVD-VIDEO widescreen on DVD disc. For now I will assume that you are working in a NTSC setup.
Premiere Elements DVD-VIDEO on DVD disc is characterized as interlaced video with field order lower (bottom) field first. I am not sure how your DVD-VIDEO on DVD was produced - upper (top) field first or lower (bottom) field first. We may have to apply Field Option Reverse Field Dominance at the Timeline level, but for now let us put that aside for a later time.
Insert your DVD disc in the DVD burner tray.
Open Premiere Elements to the Expert workspace and set the project preset manually for NTSC DV Widescreen. How to details for manual project preset setting are found
ATR Premiere Elements Troubleshooting: PE11: Accuracy of Automatic Project Preset (New Project Dialog) Setting
Then, Add Media/DVD camera or Computer Drive/Video Importer.
The video files from the DVD-VIDEO will be the larger size files and will probably start with VTS_01_1.VOB.
In the Video Importer designate the save location for video file VOB(s) and select Add to Timeline and hit Get Media
to put the files on the Timeline for editing.
If you have more than one DVD disc to "rip", please set up the Video Importer Save In location so that the save in location has a folder for each disc. The fact that all DVDs have the same VTS_01_1.VOB name etc will cause problems if you saved all to the same place as individual files.
Determine how that works for you in your Mac computer environment. We will be watching for your progress.
Others may tell you that you need to convert the VOB to another format before import into Premiere Elements. That is no necessary for Premiere Elements.
    Thank you.

  • Cannot import Finalize movie into iMovie

I have a Sony DCR-DVD103 and when I go to File>Import Movies I do see my Finalized DVD, but all the files including the Import button are grayed out. How can I import the Finalized movie into iMovie?
Upon connecting the Video Camera to my MacBook Pro, DVD Player launches. I quit DVD Player and go to iMovie>Import Movies, but never see how to import the movie into iMovie.

I have a Sony DCR-DVD103 and when I go to File>Import Movies I do see my Finalized DVD, but all the files including the Import button are grayed out. How can I import the Finalized movie into iMovie?
The "Import Movies..." option is for importing "edit" compatible files from a hard drive into iMovie '08. If the source files are not already "edit" compatible, iMovie '08 will not let you import them. Instead, try the ""Import from Camera..." option. If iMovie '08 properly recognizes you DVD camcorder, it will import your MPEG2/AAC content by converting all MPEG-2 "P" and "B" frames to "I" frames (which are editable), convert the AC3 audio to AIFF, and place both in an MOV file container with start and/or end time offsets to minimize drift between audio and video. The resulting file can then be edited in iMovie '08.
If the camcorder is not recognized by iMovie '08, then you will probably have to import the MPEG2/AC3 files to you hard drive and manually convert them to an edit compatible compression format manually using an MPEG-based, third-party conversion application like iSquint (free), MPEG Streamclip (free but requires $20 QT MPEG-2 Playback component), FFmpegX, (donation-ware), Visual Hub (pay-ware), MPEG2 Works (pay-ware), or similar application.

  • Can't import Quicktime .mov into iMovie 10

Is it possible to import a Quicktime movie into iMovie 10?  I used to be able to do this with iMovie 9 but cannot get it to work with 10.  I can drag it into an event but no clips show up.   I can't believe that Apple would require a 3rd party product to get this to work.
As a separate rant, you used to be able to edit clips directly in Quicktime but Apple removed this functionality a while back; ie. deleting parts of clips rather than just trimming from the ends.  It is getting tougher and tougher to do basic editing even if you stay within the Apple ecosystem...

.mov can contain a variety of different movie formats not all of which are importable into iMovie 10.  Try playing it in Quicktime player 10 - does it say it has to convert?   If it converts it, the resultant file should import into iMovie 10 OK.  see: OS X Mavericks: Some files may be converted when opened in QuickTime Player - Apple Support
In Quicktime 10 the way to do this is to split a movie into clips and trim each clip as required.  These can then be imported into iMovie and joined as part of a project.  See:  QuickTime Player 10.x: Rearrange your movie’s content
Quicktime 7 Pro (which does allow removing 'middle' parts of a movie) still works in Yosemite

I loaded video from an external hard drive to my desktop. How do I import the video into iMovie 09? I tried "Import Camera Archive". Didn't work.

It depends on the type of video. iMovie will only import video that it can edit.
In general, you would use FILE/IMPORT MOVIE...
