How to get side palettes to expand downwards ?

Hi,
question on CS4 Palettes.
18inch Eizo screen crt with 1024x768res.
CS2 had palettes at the right hand side, e.g. info or hostory or layers, that expanded downwards. I am used to having my image fill the screen up to the palettes at right in CS2. In CS4 instead they occupy my screen space to the left of the menu when expanded and cover the very thing I am trying to work on. We have the palette and its contents side by side, twice the screen space used up to what could be. I have only just over half my screen left workable, especially if I open the layers palette with many layers as I normally have. How can I get them to expand downwards. Is it my settings or is there no choice ? If its the new design, this is the sort of thing that might exist in an early version of a program before developers changed it in a new release and got more money out of us via an upgrade to obtain such a novel improvement.

Read the online help on how to create workspaces and dock panles in groups. none of what you describe is any problem, you just need to custimze your workspace.

How to get result arts of Expand() and DoUniteEffect()?

In Illustrator SDK, some operations on arts will return the result. For example, DuplicateArt() will set the result to "newArt" its parameter. However, some operations will not, such as Expand() and DoUniteEffect(). Is there any way to get the result arts of these functions? Thank you.

for Expanding Art, you could do as follow:
AIArtHandle newArt =0;
result = AIArtHandleModifier::ExpandArt(SourceArt, newArt, kExpandStroke);
aisdk::check_ai_error(result);
Just check method documentation to know how to pass and retrieve data!

How to get SID (SAPSYSTEMNAME) property of j2ee engine

Hello colleagues,
could anybody help us with the following point:
in our development we have to determine the SAP system ID (SID)of j2ee server instance.
As far as I remember in ABAP world there is a corresponding system variable.
Unfortunately I failed to find something like that for j2ee server (i have to note we are talking about 6.40)

It seems that I didn't get your question right. Sorry about that.
I have no idea about what APIs to use to get the SAPSYSTEMNAME parameter. My <b>guess</b> is, however, that this API is part of the J2EE Engine core and therefore not available for external developments.
But... let's wait if somebody knows that for sure!

How to get Layers Palette?

I am teaching in a Middle School Lab with CS 5. I know I can go to Window...Layers, but sometimes it doesn't show up. Then sometimes I go to Windows...Workspace...Reset. Seems a bit random, sometimes I get it back, other times I lose everything.
Or should I be looking at Arrange?
Often I will have them quit PS and open again, and it seems to show.
Please advise. Is there any easy way to reset the basic workspace with tools and layers?

I know I can go to Window...Layers, but sometimes it doesn't show up.
That should not happen; could it be that you don’t notice it because somebody moved it most of the way off the screen?

Gnome has its own words for describing the UI elements. Please look at the pictures on the gnome help page and report back what exactly is missing.
Also use the words from the help page to describe it.
If you want to have a permanently visible dash on the left, you need modifications, as it is not included in gnome per default.

Which SID? There is the Oracle instance System ID and there is an Oracle client's Session ID. Both are, confusingly, called SIDs.
The instance SID can be obtained using:
select value from v$parameter where name='instance_name'
The current session's SID can be obtained using:
select sid from v$mystat where rownum = 1

I am curious if there is a way or command line to get SID with a given service name or host. I have a service name, but I don't know how to get SID. I know that I can parse the tnsnames.ora file to get it, but if possible, I want to use the more official and safe way.
I'd appreciated if somebody knows it.

if its anything like my Sony, theres a button top left corner that upon each press i get an audible bleep and the AV inputs come up on screen, i then cycle down to whichever input i wish to select!
in case your remote is different, the button on my remote has a square with a slightly smaller square just overlapping the first square.

I'm hoping someone can tell me how to get my side tool panel back. I'm using adobe elements 10.0. Everything was fine, then all of a sudden the side tool panel disappeared and my whole screen is covered with adobe elements workspace.

Printing Docs - how to get rid of 3 inch wasted space on right side of page

I tried to print out : Communicating With Objects

After trying several different settings and printed only the first page until I got the print more or less the way I wanted it, however...
I have a standard HP Color Laserjet 2600n, looked at all the printing preferences, and all four margins are set at (.25 inch), yet when the pages print out there are about 2.5 inches of wasted space on the left side. The space is there for the Table of Contents, but there is nothing printed there, the space is blank.
So I clicked on the Table of Contents header, so the TOC became hidden and the window only contained the text and images, then when I tried to print, I found that now there were about 3 inches of white space on each page on the right hand side. This is somewhere around a 40% waste in paper, trees, etc.
One would think that expensive as printing is, there would be a way to save paper by optimizing coverage on each page as much as possible.
Another curious thing is that the size of the text on the screen is easy to read at Safari normal (default) settings, yet when the first page is printed the text is really small.
In order to get the size of the print on the paper to be easily readable, I had to click on the large [a][A] at the top of the Safari window twice (+ 2 sizes). The text on the window was fairly large, but the print became easy to read. There was still an excessive amount of wasted space, which just goes against the grain...
Does anybody have a clue how to get rid of all the wasted space on each page ? There has to a simple way, this is 2010 and we've been doing this for 25+ years now.
I am sure it is something simple that I am overlooking ? I'd be grateful for any help.

One JSP's function is to display data records page by page. Client users could click "First page" or "Previous Page" or "Next Page" or "Last Page" button to let the JSP to show the corresponding page. So the JSP must remember the current page number. Due to there are a number of client users maybe access the JSP at the same time, keep the current page number in session, there will be a lot of session is created at the same time, this will impact system's performance. So using session to keep data method is not used. I plan to use request header and response header to pass the current page number. I know use the response.addHeader to put data in response header and also know use request.getHeader to get data in request header in server side, but I donot know how to put data in request header and how to get data in response header in client side. Could you please give me a help? If donot use these method, are there any other method? Thanks a lot.

Why not pass it as a parameter with the URL?

How to get the information of the framerate and bitrate in receiving side

I want to know if anyone here know how to get the frame rate and the bit rate statistic on the receiving side.
I know that it will be displayed on the info panel with the control component, but actually where can I obtain the stats into my program instead of reading by my eye.
