How to get songs to new computer from old one?

I just got a new laptop and all my songs from iTunes are on my old desktop. I don't really understand computers to begin with, and I have been trying all day to get my songs from my old desktop to my new laptop. I have installed iTunes tried to Import songs from everywhere I can think of, and still nothing happens. I have songs onto CDs and tried to upload them and iTunes wont even recognize the CD. I have put the CD into other laptops with iTunes, and the CD is fine... what is wrong with my iTunes??
  Windows XP

This link has detailed directions on how to do this. It takes some time, but works fine:

Question - how do I transfer Acrobat 9 Standard from old computer to new one

    Hi Jonno2a,
A single license for Adobe software lets you install the software on two computers. However, you can use the software on only one computer at any given time.
If you want to install the software on a third computer, deactivate the software on the computer on which you will no longer use the software. Then, activate the software on the new computer. Uninstalling software does not deactivate it.
You need to deactivate the software first by going to the 'Help' menu within Acrobat and select 'Deactivate'.
You can then go ahead and install Acrobat 9 Std. on your other computer and activate it with the serial number.

    Hi Brittnay,
You use the same username and password for iTunes as you did to access this forum.
Changing your iTunes Store account information
You can change your account ID, password, or billing information at any time.
    To change your account information:
Choose Store > View My Account.
    Your changes take effect immediately.
If you have an Apple account, changes you make in iTunes are also recognized by other applications in which you use the same Apple account.

  • "how to get songs to new computer"?

hey i have got a new laptop i already had all mi songs on ipod ok.. so then i connect it to my new laptop then when it says du wana sync with the new comp i said no.. so then i use podutil to try to copy the songs i did everything right.. when podutils finished coping i check mi itunes and it says 1618 items wheen i have 2485 on my ipod and i made sure on podutil i had pressed to copy them all and now its werid like 1000 of my songs just havent added or dissaperad plz what do i do
      Windows XP

Never used Podutil myself, but there are other alternatives here.
    Music from iPod to computer.
There's also another method. I've successfully tested this across several different Windows PCs.
Open iTunes and select edit/preferences/advanced/general. Put a check mark in the box marked "copy files to iTunes music folder when adding to library" and also "keep iTunes music folder organized", then click 'ok'.
Connect the iPod whilst holding down the shift/ctrl keys to prevent any auto sync, and if you see the dialogue window asking if you want to sync to this itunes library, click 'no'.
Then go to file/add folder, open 'my computer', select your iPod and click 'ok'.
The music files should transfer to your iTunes.
If this doesn't work (and it may not because officially it's not supposed to), there's Yamipod. This is a free program that transfers music and playlists etc from iPod back to the computer. However, it does not transfer playcounts/ratings etc.
The above methods may depend on what version of iTunes you are running.
If none of these methods work, try CopyPod which also supports the transfer of videos from iPod to computer.
With the first method you can drag the files themselves into your desktop (say) and make sure you have them all.

  • Importing songs on to a new computer from old one

    hello!
For my birthday i just got the macbook laptop, as i am transfering all my muisc and files from my old IbookG4 to my new Macbook, i was wondering if there was a simpler way of importing my muisc instead of burning them on cd's. i know of the programs you can buy to do this, but i was wondering if you can send your library to yourself or something other than buying the program or burning your library on to cd's. thank you so much!

Welcome to Apple's user-to-user discussion forums.
    From the Mac help system:
Transferring files between two computers using FireWire
You can use FireWire to connect your computer to another Mac and have one of the computers appear as an external hard disk on the other computer. This is sometimes called Target Disk Mode.
    To transfer files using FireWire:
Shut down the first computer and leave the second computer on.
Connect the two computers using a 6-pin to 6-pin FireWire cable. (If both computers have higher-speed FireWire 800 ports in addition to the standard FireWire 400 ports, you can use a 9-pin to 9-pin cable with the FireWire 800 ports to transfer data at higher speeds.)
Open System Preferences, click the Startup Disk, and click Target Disk Mode. (Or, start up the first computer while holding down the T key.)
A disk icon for the first computer appears on the desktop on the second computer. Drag files to and from the disk to transfer them.
When you finish, eject the first computer's disk by dragging its icon to the Trash. (While you drag, the Trash icon changes to an Eject icon.)
Push the power button on the first computer to shut it down and disconnect the FireWire cable.
You would need to get a Firewire cable at Staples, Wal-mart, Radio Shack, or some similar store.

want to sync music from brand new computer as old one was damanged. says all my songs will be deleted. solution, please?

Do you have all of your content in that computer's iTunes library ? There are some instructions on this page for syncing to a new computer : Syncing to a "New" Computer or replacing a "crashed" Hard Drive
And if you have music on your device that wasn't purchased from iTunes and you don't have a copy of it on your new computer's iTunes then there are some programs listed half-way down this page which should be able to copy it back (iTunes will only copy iTunes downloads back from a device) : Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device

  • My ipod is not recognized on a new computer after old one crashed.  I have painstakenly restored all songs and playlists.  I deautorized all, and the reauthorized new computer.  It won't sync.

My ipod is now recognized on a new computer after old one crashed.  I installed itunes on the new computer, and have painstakenly restored all songs and playlists. I also purchased several new songs from the itunes stores.  Now my ipod will not sync with the new computer.  I deauthorized all computers, then reauthorozed the new one.  My ipod still won't sync.

...after running diagnostics through itunes, itunes says  "device not found"  Seems there are a lot of others having this problem, and it seems to be related to new version of itunes.  Apple should do something to fix this.

Have you not got a backup of your content on, for example, an external drive that you can copy onto your new computer ? If not, then depending on which country that you are in you might be able to re-download iTunes purchases from the store. Otherwise you will need to find a third-party program to copy the music off the iPod - this post from a couple of years mentions some that were around at the time, I don't know whether they still exist and work.

I am trying to activate my program into my new computer (the old one was run over by a car) and it says I have exceeded my installations.  It's Adobe Audition 3 (you can see I've been using it a long time) and I rely on it for work everyday.  Please advise.

The activation server for Audition 3 was shut down by Adobe several years ago.
You now need to download the non-activation version provided by Adobe here
Error: Activation Server Unavailable | CS2, Acrobat 7, Audition 3
Install then enter the new serial number provided by Adobe at that link. Your existing serial number will no longer work.

i put my itunes onto my old computer, which crashed recently. now i have a new laptop and i need all my old music thats currently on my ipod, onto my laptop. how can i do this?

Apple doesn't support the transferring of music from your iPod to your iTunes. Only iTunes to iPod. So to do this you will need to download a third party program that will help copy your music from your iPod back to your computer, or there are a couple manual methods you can check out.

If you iPod is set to automatically update and you plug it into iTunes, a message will pop up telling you that your iPod is linked to another library. It will ask if you want to sync and replace all your music. Make sure you hit NO. If you sync with an empty library, then your iPod will also end up empty, because when it syncs it makes an exact copy of your library.

  • Old computer died, how do I get songs to new computer?  HELP!!

My old computer's hard drive died. I am trying to hook my iPod up to my new computer to get my music onto the new computer's iTunes. The directions in the Applie help section don't work b/c they assume I can use my old computer to help with the transition. How do I do this without losing all my music?

    Try one of these;
Open iTunes and select edit/preferences/advanced/general.

The above methods may depend on what version of iTunes you are running.
If none of these methods work, try CopyPod.
If you are using iTunes version 7 or later, then you can transfer purchased iTunes store music from the iPod to an authorized computer by using the "file/transfer purchases from iPod" menu. Note that the maximum of 5 authorized computers applies here.
    post back with results.
