How to get this effect? (photo included)

I want to create on my photos that effect that is a sort of red, or purple glow. Its often used and its something i cant find how to do it.
http://www.andimayr.de/pictures/people/pl_17.jpg
That is an example.
Thanks!

I've always loved making effects like this using a gradient and layer blending options.
1. Start with your image. Try keeping the original colors, or desaturate the original image!
2. Make a new layer and apply a gradient with as many color choices as you want. (Try 2 colors, 3 colors, 8 colors, or just one color that fades into transparency)
3. Change the Blending Option for the gradient layer to something like Screen, or Color, or Soft Light. Also, try adjusting the opacity of the gradient layer to make the effect more or less pronounced.
Screen, Opacity: 100%
Screen, Opacity: 50%
Soft Light, Opacity: 50%
I hope this helps. I'm sure there are many other ways of achieving similar effects, this is just a favorite of mine.
The example you posted has a very subtle use of colorization, so play around with the opacity and blending options between the layers until you find something you like!
Cheers,
Michael.

  • FCPX - How to get this effect

I am in total awe of the effect in this video. Can someone tell me how to achieve it in FCPX? A video is playing through the silouette of a man's body or so it seems.
    http://youtu.be/KLVq0IAzh1A

I see Sting, a daylight shot of people walking around and a "nighttime" clip as an overall background (the two scenes: walking people and the darker background are the same "scene" (same angle) -- one populated by people (in "clean environment") and the other -- everything overgrown by vines -- Sting cuts a silhouette of the walking people over the scene overgrown by vines... and in the dark.
You can do a similar effect by using the same clip (duplicated) as the lighter and darker scenes and colorize (manipulate the exposure of)  the "background" scene as something darker -- or simply different.
Anyway, there are 3 basic clips involved.
I'm going to modify my original suggestion somewhat (silhouette luma doesn't really work as well as I expected it to):
I duplicated the effect here (but not with the best material - the dark jacket doesn't really improve the effect):
This is the set up for the two clips that make the compound. The top clip is the green screen keyed and the blend mode set to Stencil Alpha (a change from my original post). It creates a mask for the background in the shape of the green screened person. The background/lower layer is the clip with the lighter/normal exposure (similar to the people walking around clip.)
In the storyline (moved back out of the compound) the compound video is synchronized over the same background clip IN the compound (in the Sting version - the background scene is overgrown with vines and there are no people, but it is the same camera POV as the walking people layer) [The red X indicates that the top layer is currently disabled -- I bring it back in below.]
In this image -- I have applied a deep darkening (global setting) in the selected (storyline) layer.
Finallly, the green screen clip is overlaid on top of everything, and the opacity is set to about 85% (in this example.)
    HTH (and hope it's clear)

  • How to get this effect...

    http://www.sandiegomagazine.com
I'm just wondering the best way to create that white circle gradient on either sides of the page. I'll be doing it in grey,  but I'm sure the procedure would be the same. I'm getting close, just not quite right...

If you right click on the background you'll see that it's a background image, probably created with a radial gradient.  Draw a large rectangle and add a color to it. Change the fill to a radial gradient, with the original color and a lighte shade of the original color. Export the image to the assets folder of your site and use it as a non tiling background image.

  • How can I get this effect?

    Hello! Good day to all.
I was wondering if any of you experienced photoshop users can help me to learn how to get this effect.
Here is the "before edition" image:
And here is the "after edition" image:
I got this effect playing around with filters in my Adobe Elements, but now that my father bought Photoshop CS6 Extended, I took advantage and installed it on my laptop aswell. The problem is, I have no idea how to use most of it.
I've been learning some tricks on YouTube tutorials and courses, but I just can't find the way to get this one effect.
I'm very gratefull for you taking the time to reading this and helping me, and I wish you a great day.

Lots of ways to do that. After applying the Threshold adjustment, you could use Gaussian blur followed by levels and drag the black and white sliders toward the center like this:
    Or
You could use the Magic wand with Contiguous un-checked, and select the blacks.  Then use Refine Edge, and add some Smoothing, and wee bit of feather.  OK that and fill with black  (Alt/Opt backspace with black as your foreground colour)
Now invert the selection (Ctrl Shift i or Cmd Shift i) and fill with white.  You will loose fine detail acording to the settings you use in Refine edge - especiall the amount of Smoothing.
    Or
Copy the layer with Ctrl/Cmd j
Add a new background layer, and fill with white.
Select the blacks with the magic wand (remember to uncheck contiguous in the Options bar), and with the selection in place, add a layer mask.
Now completely fill the layer (not the layer mask) with black.
You can now adjust the effect with the Mask Properties panel.  If you can get it right with Feather you can make as many adjustments as you like to fine tune, but if you use Mask edge, you only get one go because it is destructive editing.

  • WHAT iS THIS EFFECT CALLED? OR HOW CAN I GET THIS EFFECT?

WHAT'S THIS EFFECT CALLED? OR HOW CAN I GET THIS EFFECT?
first of  all i don't know what's this kind of photo effect called, i just describe it as bright, clean and w/o lack of contrasts
secondly, i wanna learn how to achieve this effect.....really don't know how
    need help here....
btw i don't know where to post this post....so i just start from here  =)\

For my part you are welcome, Lisa.
then what about the color tone here? it's very pure and clean, a touch of blue i think, is it from the nature light or from photoshop effect?
The colour tone is (hopefully) a result of the nature of the natural light faithfully reproduced by the high quality of the camera (and film if relevant).
You will get quite different and sometimes rapidly changing tones of colour depending on the natural light; this is different for different times of day, different directions, different weather conditions.
Just to mention a few comparisons, the warm light from the setting sun is quite different from the cool light from the clear bright sky through a (high) window to the north at noon, and the light of the sun can be changed immensely by the huge white (or grey) filter sometimes applied to (parts of) the sky.
You may do many things in Photoshop, but photography is still an art form, not just cheating, at least for some.
I believe one of the real provings of cameras/films is the ability to reproduce the delicate but profoundly different tinges in snow on a clear day.

This looks like the final logo was created with several layers probably in Illustrator, then the file was most likely imported into After Effects and revealed by animating mask paths.

    Hi!
I have a series of QuickTime files that I am trying to
    present in a nice
interface. I know how I can create this effect in Flash- but
    given the
number of .movs I have, I am thinking of sticking to QT. The
    example I have
    in mind is
    http://www.apple.com/aperture/quicktours/
I went through the source code and tried to replicate it by
    changing some of
the values but it does not seem to work. I thought about
    using frames to
ease complication but I find frames cumbersome. I am open to
    suggestions but
would prefer to keep the video clips in QT versus converting
    to FLV.
    Thank you.

    Hi(Bonjour)!
    Welcome to the forum.
It will be difficult to compose this effect in FCE without commercial plugins like Nattress's Big Box of Tricks (G Glow dissolve).
But you can try this: create a colorized transparent document (yellow and red around the frame) in Photoshop. Save in PNG. Import into FCE.
Put it on V2, over the edit point for your video clips in V1.
Try to keyframe opacity values, animate the position with erratic displacements and add some twirling or distord effects (that can be keyframed too).
With some patience, I'm sure that you can achieve a such effect.

  • How to get this skin effect on a black model?

    hello everyone!!!
i was wondering if anyone knows how to get this final effect on a picture with a black model?

    1. Original image
    2. Convert to grayscale, then back to RGB
    3. Approximate color of sample
    4. Curves to add contrast
    Final.  Dodge selected quartertones
If desired, add a very, very slight noise. Not in image here. (Add'l layer: Gaussian, Mono, very low opacity)

  • How do I get this effect for my voice?

I'm recording voice in Logic Pro. What would be the inserts for a soft, mellow, rich, full-sounding vocal track?
    Something along this line:

    Thanks in advance!
    ND

An octave up is too much. that'll only sound quarter-decent with Autotune or Melodyne. But, you've got to learn the right pitchdrifting in your voice to get this effect - you have to 'play it' with your voice. The latency of the plug makes this almost impossible in real time (Software Monitoring) though. That is what makes this technique more difficult then it first appears. Being a natural pitchdrifter helps.
And to get a higher sounding voice you should try a formant-shifting plug in.

  • How to make this effect in Keylight?

Hi, I have question, how to make this effect in Keylight?
I know that this overlay is added here:

Keylight what? All I see is some effect similar to Leave Color, a.k.a the Pleasantville effect that made the rounds 10 years ago. It may require additional masking and otehr effects, but definitely not something that is specifically related to Keylight...

    Hello,
Try disabling graphics hardware acceleration. Since this feature was added to Firefox, it has gradually improved, but there still are a few glitches.
You might need to restart Firefox in order for this to take effect, so save all work first (e.g., mail you are composing, online documents you're editing, etc.).
    Then perform these steps:
*Click the orange Firefox button at the top left, then select the "Options" button, or, if there is no Firefox button at the top, go to Tools > Options.
*In the Firefox options window click the ''Advanced'' tab, then select "General".
*In the settings list, you should find the ''Use hardware acceleration when available'' checkbox. Uncheck this checkbox.
*Now, restart Firefox and see if the problems persist.
Additionally, please check for updates for your graphics driver by following the steps mentioned in the following Knowledge base articles:
    * [[Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems]]
    * [[Upgrade your graphics drivers to use hardware acceleration and WebGL]]
Did this fix your problems? Please report back to us!
    Thank you.

No, your Yahoo account is not in iCloud (which only handles iCloud mail), it is in Yahoo, and the Yahoo mail account is on your iPad.
But the MacBook Pro will have none of it! I write this question now as I fear that I will be totally demented very soon and unable to formulate my thoughts clearly!
Get the correct settings for your account from Yahoo and set it up manually.
By the way, I also find the "password" issue problematical. It seems Apple want my Apple password rather than my eMail password. All very confusing.
That would depend on what you are trying to do.

Effect?  It just looks like a well-executed, natural-looking photo shot with a good wide angle lens to me.  Indeed it's very nice.
At one time I might have said they did noise reduction and maybe some HDR work, but with modern gear and great converters like Camera Raw (especiually considering the current set of adjustment abilities), it's not inconceivable to get an image like that right out of a raw file.  Landscapes often benefit from increased color saturation, and I can imagine the Clarity control might have helped make the air just seem very clear.  It's possible they cloned- (or spot-healed-) out any little bits of debris visible to give the image a very clean feel.
It's also sharpened nicely for web presenetation.  There's even a lot of detail in the 2048 pixel version, though at that size you start to see sharpening halos.
Clear, wide angle landscapes with light reflections, not to mention pretty clouds and all the colors of the spectrum, can be very nice indeed, as this shot underscores.

i have purchased itunes match but the cloud will not load on my ipad 4.it works on my iphone 5 & it originally worked on my ipad.the only music that will show up is stuff that i bought from the itunes store.any ideas on how to get this to work?

On the MBP, in iTunes, switch to Song view and enable the iCloud Status column by pulling down View > View options and selecting the option for "iCloud Status." Close the small window. Look for any tracks that have a status of "waiting." If you see several of them disable iTunes Match while holding down the Option key. Quit iTunes, wait a few seconds, then open it again and turn iTM back on. Let it compelete the scan. Wait until all tracks that are "waiting" have a status of either "matched" or "uploaded."
On the iPad, turn off iTunes Match then launch the Music app and let the contents clear out. Power cycle the iPad for good measure, then re-enable the service once all the tracks in iTunes have been processed.
