How to get video files to appear in library?

I just upgraged to Windows Vista (yuck) and I am having problems getting my .mpeg 4 files to appear in my ITunes Library.
I tried "Adding File to Library", "Importing", and draging the file to the library and it still will not show up in my library.
Could anyone help?

"when will we be able to get them in UK?"
No-one knows. Steve Jobs has said "sometime in 2007".
"Is there a way to download from US itunes, i tried to get a new account in the us itunes store but it wont let me?"
No you can't. At present movies and TV shows are only available in the US iTunes store. There are a variety of reasons for this including copyright and licensing/distribution issues in different countries.
You cannot purchase anything from an iTunes store outside of the country in which you live and have a billing address as mentioned in the Terms of Sale.
"You agree not to use or attempt to use the Service from outside of the available territory, and that iTunes may use technologies to verify your compliance."
The Terms of Use for the iTMS state that you agree that you won't attempt to make purchases from outside the store's country in which you reside. The chance is small that Apple will disable your account, but just be aware that it is possible.
They certainly won't support your use of the US iTMS from outside the USA if you do have any problems.

  • How to get video file and iTunes Extra to show as one file in iTunes?

    When I purchase a movie in iTunes with iTunes Extras, after the download is finished in the "Movies" and "Genres" view they appear as one file. You click on the cover, it opens, shows the "Play iTunes Extra" button as well as a small Play arrow button next to the title to play the movie directly. Only in "List" view do they appear as separate files.
    How can I achieve that for my own iTunes extra? I tried giving the .ite the same XID as the movie file but that didn't work, they continue to appear as separate files in iTunes and the little play button when expanding the iTunes Extra doesn't work obviously. Anyone can tell me how this is done?

    Ok, I finally figured it out... there is 2 files that play a critical role in this
    first is manifest.xml
    in this file ensure that the library_item type string references the xid for your video file, and it has to be a proper xid. The iAd Producer manual explains how to create one if it does
    example:
    <library_item type="video" local_id="feature" xid="TEST:uuid:C7AE7CED-3F60-4C08-AA01-E3F9647B95CC" name="Your Movie"/>
    second file and even more critical is iTunesMetadata.plist. There is a couple of strings in there that lace the iTunes Extra to the film and vice versa
    <key>itemId</key>
    <integer>987654321</integer>
    <key>itemName</key>
    <string>Your Movie - iTunes Extras</string>
    The first is a unique 9 digit number that identifies your iTunes Extra file, the second is the name of the file that should follow the convention "Your Movie Title - iTunes Extras"
    <key>playlistId</key>
    <integer>123456789</integer>
    <key>playlistName</key>
    <string>Your Movie</string>
    This is what ties it back to the movie file, we will come back to it later where in the movie MetaData you need to place this 9 digit string
    <key>xid</key>
    <string>TEST:uuid:C7AE7CED-3F60-4C08-AA01-E3F9647B95CC_ITUNES_EXTRAS</string>
    This is the convention in how to properly xid your iTunes Extra, it is your movie's XID with "_ITUNES_EXTRAS" added to the end of it
    <key>Name File</key>
    <string>Your Movie - iTunes Extras.ite</string>
    <key>associated-adam-ids</key>
    <array>
    <integer>123456789</integer>
    The first is self explanatory but the second is again this 9 digit number that you will need to place into the meta data of your movie. It is what will make iTunes lace the two files together
    <key>xid-asset-mapping</key>
    <dict>
    <key>TEST:uuid:C7AE7CED-3F60-4C08-AA01-E3F9647B95CC</key>
    <array>
    <integer>123456789</integer>
    </array>
    <key>TEST:uuid:C7AE7CED-3F60-4C08-AA01-E3F9647B95CC_ITUNES_EXTRAS</key>
    <array>
    <integer>987654321</integer>
    </array>
    </dict>
    This is the last critical piece, it laces the two files tigthly together. Now the 9 digit number counting down from 9 is part of the unique ID of the iTunes Extra, the 9 digit number counting up from 1 needs to be put into the metadata of your movie. The annotation type for this is "contentID".
    That's pretty much it. If you did it right your files will now appear as one file in cover view just like a movie bought in the store.
    The easiest to do this right is to grab the manifest.xml and iTunesMetadata.plist from an iTunes store movie and copy paste and edit it for your purposes, which is what I did.
    Cheers everyone!

  • How do I get mp3 files to appear with album cover thumbnails?

    how do I get mp3 files to appear with album cover thumbnails? when I updated my ITunes now all my mp3 files
    that had thumbs have no thumbs...thanks

    First, you have to embbed picture into mp3 file with idtag editors (tagalicious, musicbrainz picard, mp3tag, id3tag editor...).
    Then you'll have to install at least Itunes 10.5.1(42), even if you're not using Itunes at all.
    Albumarts will now appear in every folder from the finder.

    How do I get video files that I already have on my computer into Itunes and onto my Ipod???

    Assuming the video files are in the correct format for iPod, all you need to do is add them to your iTunes library then sync the iPod. Under the file menu in iTunes is an option the add a file or folder to the library.

    Before re-installing, try trashing the prefs and re-launching. Start by quitting PSE11.
    Launch Finder and click the Go menu whilst holding down the Option (alt) key. Then go to Library >> Preferences and clear everything relating to PSE11 which usually means deleting the following files:
    com.adobe.PhotoshopElements.plist
    Adobe Photoshop Elements 11 Paths
    Adobe Photoshop Elements 11 Settings
    If trashing the prefs makes no difference you can download a replacement for PSE11 at the link below.

  • I still don't understand how to get video on my iPhone-HELP!

    I have an iPhone and a iPod Classic and I just can't figure out how to get video on my either device, nothing I do works. I'm not talking about buying movies, etc from iTunes, I'm referring to videos I already have on my computer, converting them to the appropriate file extension (which I still have no idea what that is) and then where do I put these videos on my computer in order for iTunes to recognize them and pull them in?
    I wish these devices were simplier to work with, where they acted as hard drives and you could just drag and drop what you wanted where and play them. But of course it has to be more complicated then this because Apple wants to control the users experience (sound familiar?)...I'm an advanced computer user and I have to admit that I'm embarrassed by the fact that I can't figure this out.
    If anyone can give me SIMPLE instructions and a program to use to do video converstions I would appreciate it.
    Thanks.

    Im not going to be a great help as im on OS X, bit Ill have a go:
    For a number of reasons, iTunes and the iPod/iPhone only support a handful of types of video file. Mainly a file type called .mp4 which is normally h.264 with embeded metadata. This isnt a special Apple video file, and as long as it doesnt have DRM, can be played on many modern devices such as the Xbox360, PSP, PS3 etc.
    The only limiting thing you have to watch out for is the resolution of the video as some devices will not be able to play the higher resolution content such as a 1080p HDTV stream on an iPhone, it just wont play!
    So what you need to do, if you have videos in many different file types such as realplayer, wmv, and avi etc, you need top convert them to mp4, and then optionally add cover art and tag the file with show name etc.
    None of this is built in, partly because Apple wants you to buy content rather than get it elsewhere, and partly as itts a little more complicated than making an mp3 at the moment.
    On my Mac I use a program called Handbrake (free) that can rip from DVD to an iphone version, and a program called VisualHub that can convert just about any video type to iphone format. After encoding the video, i use a program called MetaX to correctly tag the video fiels so that they are easy to find in iTunes and so that I can make smart playlists etc. Do this and the files in iTunes act just like if you had purchased them from the store.
    Now, I dont know whats good for Windows, but I did a google search and found this which is free and for Windows:
    http://www.videora.com/en-us/Converter/iPod/
    For tagging, this may be ok:

  • How to play video files that are in Drop box on iPod?

    How to play video files that are in Drop box on iPod?

    I am going to have to write a technote about this, because it comes up a lot.
    Flash Player itself is designed to play SWF content as a browser plugin or as an ActiveX control (when it's IE Windows).
    There is a standalone Flash Player, but that's something Adobe  provides directly as a feature of Flash CS4 Professional. It gets installed with Flash. We have made some standalone players available on http://www.adobe.com/support/flashplayer/downloads.html, but not all (and I don't know why.  Looking into it)
    There are numerous 3rd party standalone SWF players out there though.  Some designed to just play video, others that play full SWF. I suggest a google search of 'play SWF standalone' and read the results.
    On the Mac, consumers who want to play SWF content off their desktop can use the Adobe Media Player. You can import a local SWF (and FLV and other video) and play it in AMP.  Get it here:
    http://www.adobe.com/products/mediaplayer/
    That's Mac only, doesn't work on Windows.

  • Getting video files to your iPod

    Q. How do I get video files to my iPod?
    A. First of all for DVD's and the like, you'll need a video capture device(a.k.a. a video card that usually comes with a program that allows you to record video from a number of sources).
    Once you've recorded your file which might not be Mpeg-4 or H.264 but will probably be AVI or WMV, what I recommend at this point is the iPod video converter from Xilisoft. this powerful little tool will enable you to open just about any file(WMV,MPEG,AVI...and so on) and convert it to and iPod compatible format. The plus of this program compared to others is not only can you download a trial version, but you get five full minutes of recording without any watermarks(basically print over your new recording that usually says "trial version" or something that can only be removed by purchasing the full version of the product.)
    Third, for editing this is where you can put the 40 bucks you spent on quicktime pro to some use. Now you should be able to open your file in Quicktime without any problems and edit your video for final viewing. (That's if you need to of course. Some video capturing devices don't allow you to do editing.)
    Lastly, if you can't be bothered with all this editing stuff, drop your new video file into your iPod in iTunes, right click the file once iPod is updated, select "get info". One of the tabs should allow you to input the point or time you want the file to start playing.

    They first need to be in iTunes. Find them on the music store under podcasts.
    Once they are there, connect the iPod and go to edit-->preferences in iTunes. Clcik the iPod tab. Then click the videos tab. Make sure update all videos is selected. Then click the podcasts tab under the iPod and make sure that update all podcasts is selected. Click OK.
    If they are not in the right format, then right click an epsidoe and go to convert selection for iPod. You can highlight multiple episodes and convert them at once.

  • [CS3][JS] How to get the file type of current document

    Hi,
    How to get the file type of current opening document (e.g., tif, jpeg, png) using JavaScript with Photoshop CS3.
    I am using file object the open the files one by one in the folder (the files sometimes don't have the extensions).
    If the current document is in tiff format then I need to convert to 8-bit, if its an Jpg image then needs to ignore the file.
    Regards,
    Karthik

    Do you really need to know the file type? What about just checking the bit depth?
    var doc = activeDocument;
    if (doc.bitsPerChannel != BitsPerChannelType.EIGHT) {//Not 8 bit
    doc.bitsPerChannel = BitsPerChannelType.EIGHT;
    //do your save etc
    }else{

    The following code does not work. isFile() does NOT recognize files as files but only as directories. Why?

    How do I have to code it otherwise? Is there a way of not converting f-to-string-to-File again but iterate over all file objects instead?
    Thank you
