How to globally set K100% to overprint?

I have some InDesign (CS2 & CS3) files which consist of text setup as K100% and various tint values such as K70%, K50, K30%, etc. Some of the text are placed on top of color panels. I would like to perform a global change of K100% to overprint whereas the rest of the tint values to knockout.
I tried using find/change function, first make a global change from [Black] (without defining any tint value) to [Black] (also without defining any tint value) overprint check OFF. This has successfully set all the [Black] to knock out including K100%.
I then thought of using find/change function again to make another change from [Black], tint 100% to [Black], tint 100%, overprint ON. But this time, it prompts 0 replacement.
Can someone help me to resolve this issue? Thanks in advance!

Here is another unconventional solution:
The goal is for all tints to knock out, and all solids to overprint? Then there is a way you can set everything to overprint, but still KO your tints!
You have to create multi-ink swatches for your tints. For example 20% Pantone 295, you need it to KO? Create a multi-ink swatch that is 20% 295, and 0% of ALL other inks (you must set them to 0, don't leave them blank).
You can use this swatch, set the object to overprint, but it won't really overprint.
The trick is making sure all the tints are colored using the proper swatch, throughout the document. Then make everything overprint. Don't add new inks afterwards, otherwise your multi inks would overprint them.
This solution is very unorthodox, but I present it mainly because you expressed your concern about overlooking the overprint attribute. With this method you overprint everything, everywhere. You are using swatches to achieve your knock outs, which may somehow be easier.
Whatever method you use, make sure you use Overprint Preview as previously mentioned, to check behind yourself. It is very, very easy to accidentally have something overprinting which is not supposed to overprint. By enabling and disabling Overprint Preview you are more likely to see this, it will jump out at you.
It's funny, thinking back to Pagemaker I believe you could make a swatch overprint globally. InDesign does not have that feature. As pointed out the only color with the global overprint preference is Black.

    ************************* Question:
    Hello,
    I want to deploy JWS on a client PC with Microsoft XP OS. This client have multiple users. JWS put a file deployment.properties in the directory "documents and setting" for the current user.
    How can I create a uniquely file deployment.properties for all users of this client (new and existing profiles) ?
    Create a directory "documents and setting/all users/application data/sun/java/deployment/" with the file deployment.properties don't work.
    Create a directory "documents and setting/default user/application data/sun/java/deployment/" with the file deployment.properties is working but is not good for the existing users. This is good uniquely for new users.
    is there a solution ?

    ************************* ANSWER:
    For windows, the system config file is at:
    {Windows Directory}\Sun\Java\Deployment\
    The value of the {Windows Directory} is determined by using the Win32 API GetWindowsDirectory.
    So for example, on XP, the system config file is:
    c:\WINDOWS\Sun\Java\Deployment\deployment.properties
    The settings in this system config file will be used by all users on the system.
    ***************************** HIS REPLY
    I've tried this and it doesn't seem to work.
    I've also tried createing a deployment.config file as per the http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.5.0/docs/guide/deployment/deployment-guide/properties.html article and this doesn't work for me.
    Has anyone done this successfully??
    ******************************** MY REPLY:
    This is true.
    I can get the system install to work if I add the parameter:
    deployment.system.cachedir=C\:\\testcache
    to the deployment.properties file found under:
    C:\Documents and Settings\username\Application Data\Sun\Java\Deployment
    but it will NOT work by adding it to the:
    C:\WINDOWS\Sun\Java\Deployment
    directory. It just creates a new default one in the user's folder.
    What am I doing wrong?
    If there is not a way to globally set the System Cache location, then this isn't much better than the user cache for being able to "install" the software once on the PC and let any user that signs in access that application.
    We had high hopes for this, since this functionality was taken away from us once the java cache started being stored in the user's folders.
    More details:
    I just tried setting the mandatory=true setting and it tells me that it is not allowed to start because it can't find the
    deployment.properties in the same folder (full path is displayed) but I know it is there, because it is the same folder. I even double checked the spelling.
    Maybe there is a bug in the way it finds that properties file, or maybe I need to include something in that file that I didn't find in documentation?
    All it has in it is the one line:
    deployment.system.cachedir=C\:\\testcache
    Can anybody help shed light on this?
    It seems to be a bug that it can't find the deployment.properties file in the 'system' folder.

  • How to globally set WiFi to use device management identity certificate for all users?

    I'm using Apple's Profile Management service in Mountain Lion, and discovered through serendipity that an enrolled device can authenticate on EAP-TLS to our WPA2-Enterprise Wifi using the Device Managment Identity Certificate instead of an individually-generated-for-user x509 cert. This is extremely convenient, because then we can effectively revoke a device's cert by unenrolling the device.
    However, I haven't been able to figure out how to make WiFi always designate EAP-TLS and select the Device Management Identity Certificate globally (whether through /usr/bin/networksetup or through the Profile Manager).
    Does anybody have any pointers on how to do this? My goal is to have an OS X >= 10.7 machine at a network login prompt capable of logging into the machine, authenticated against the Open Directory server the machine is already bound to. At present a wireless user cannot do this, as the machine's Wifi preferences haven't yet been set to use the aforementioned device management cert.
    Thanks!

    Making customisation from the default profile is generally considered poor practice and quite often doesn't work out as planned. (If you're interested in some more information on this, [http://mockbox.net/windows-7/227-customise-windows-7-default-profile.html see here] see here)

    how can i set a global error page for all error code?
    i don't want to leave a long list in the web.xml file.could any one help me?
    thanks

    If u have a common Error JSP named as ErrorPage.jsp
    You need to have the following piece of code in the JSP as :
    <%@ page isErrorPage ="true"%>
    This makes it as the Common Error Page for the Application. Now all you need to do is from other JSP's throw the Exception to teh container. The container will redirect to this Page and process accordingly.

  • How do I globally set in and out points on a large number of images?

    As the post asks: How do I globally set in and out points on a large number of images before sending to the timeline? In AVID I can do this in the Script view. How do I do it in FCP?
    Thanks in advance

    Thanks. I assumed I needed to set in and out points. I have not done an image sequence in FCP. If I have a 10 second image and a 2 second transition, but then change the duration of the transition to say 4 seconds then FCP will let me alter the transition duration?
    With regards to movie clips, what happens with setting global in and out points? How would I do that?
    Thanks in advance

  • How can I set #HOST# variable referenced in the Chart template?

    #HOST# and #HOST_PROTOCOL# are being set incorrectly by APEX from CGI variables when I create a chart. I am using APEX 4.1 and Oracle 11g. The get the continual "Loading data..." and then after it times out I get "Error loading file".
    Before we changed to a secure http environment, our charts worked. After we changed to the new web layer, the charts do not work. The #HOST# substitution was set to http://correctservername/ and #HOST_PROTOCOL# was set to http. We set PlsqlCGIEnvironmentList REQUEST_PROTOCOL=https in the dads configuration file and now the #HOST# displays https but it also includes the default port number which we do not want (https://correctservername:port/) The charts work without the port. REQUEST_PROTOCOL is not in the cgi list and setting this variable set #HOST_PROTOCOL#. What variable can we set to make #HOST# correct. It seems like #HOST# is being set by #REQUEST_PROTOCOL#'://'||HTTP_HOST||':'||SERVER_PORT||SCRIPT_NAME||'/'. SERVER_NAME could also be used in of HTTP_HOST. I don't know how APEX is setting #HOST#. Does it come from a host alias somewhere in the environment?
    I don't want to add a new cgi variable called HOST because HOST sounds so generic and it might interfere with something else running in our environment. Or, I don't want to change the plsql cgi environment variable (such as HTTP_HOST) because many developers may use owa_util.get_cgi_env('HTTP_HOST') to get the current server. If the SERVER_PORT is part of the #HOST# then what could I change it to if it needs to be null. If you leave it blank, then the default SERVER_PORT comes from the CGI variables.
    I would rather not create a global variable (hard-coding) and create a new chart template using the global variable or create a before header application process to re-direct url without a port.

    Hi Donna,
    changing the CGI environment variables HTTP_HOST, REQUEST_PROTOCOL and SERVER_PORT is the correct way how to resolve this, because it appears that your hiding the web server where you have installed mod_plsql or EPG by a different outside facing web server (also called reverse proxy). That's why APEX gets the host name, protocol and port of the internal web server, but should actually get the values of your reverse proxy web server. Can can fix that by changing the following CGI environment variables.
    HTTP_HOST should just contain the domain name (no protocol or port). For example: www.oracle.com
    REQUEST_PROTOCOL should contain http or https
    SERVER_PORT should be the port for https
    I don't want to add a new cgi variable called HOST because HOST sounds so generic and it might interfere with something else running in our environment. Or, I don't want to change the plsql cgi environment variable (such as HTTP_HOST) because many developers may use owa_util.get_cgi_env('HTTP_HOST') to get the current server. If the SERVER_PORT is part of the #HOST# then what could I change it to if it needs to be null. If you leave it blank, then the default SERVER_PORT comes from the CGI variables.The value of HTTP_HOST is wrong anyway and points to your internal web server, but I assume your developers actually want to get the host name of your external web server if they use it to generate absolute URLs. That's why I wouldn't bother and set it to the correct host name.

  • How do I set a variable on the main timeline from within a symbol?

    Just getting started with Animate and coming to it from Flash, as may be apparent from my question. How do you set a variable to the main timeline from within a symbol?
    I have 24 pairs of clickable elements, each in their own symbols, and all 24 of those symbols sit inside another symbol. I want all 24 to be able to set the same global variable when clicked. I can't find that this question is addressed anywhere, which makes me think I may be stuck in a Flash mindset and approaching the task in the wrong way. (There are however MANY discussions of how to address objects at different levels in the hierarchy. That's well covered.)
    Relatedly, how do you access a function on the main timeline from within a symbol?
    Adobe should consider putting together a support page (or pages) just for folks migrating form Flash. In the materials I've encountered so far there seems to be a studied effort to refrain from mentioning Flash in any way. I imagine there are a lot of people out there like me who have a deep background in Flash coding, but are just getting started with Animate. We don't need help with most of the basic concepts, but we may still have some pretty basic questions about how to accomplish some things in Animate because our Flash knowledge is getting in the way.

    Hi Bill,
    There are plenty of threads on here about scope, but here's one way to create a global variable:
    // code on Stage.compositionReady
    sym.myGlobalVar = 1;
    Then, anywhere in your project, you can check/set that var like so:
    sym.getComposition().getStage().myGlobalVar = 2;
    And here's one way to create a global function:
    // code on Stage.compositionReady
    sym.myGlobalFunction = function(){
              console.log('myGlobalFunction');
    Then, anywhere in your project, you can call that function like so:
    sym.getComposition().getStage().myGlobalFunction();

  • Globally set "float" for my windows... and Skins?

    I really liked how PS would allow me to open up any .psd etc, in it's own floating window, so I could select then drag an image from one doc to the other.
    Cant do that with the default settings in CS5...but I've found a way to 'force' that for each doc I open AFTER I open it via the top nav bar icon to enable the float for that doc...
    IS there a way to globally set CS5 to only ever open any PS doc with that already set to the float window setting?
    Can't find it so far...but surely that must exist, right?
    RE: my subject item on Skins...the overall "gray-ness" of the CS5 GUI gets me down...I also can not find out how to "skin" the gray away....can you?

    huge 27" HP that is powered by a nVidea card...absolutely great look/feel and the workstation powering same is  a great Dell box.
    that said, it's not the monitor, nor the ambient light here at the office..it's the dang all gray look that bugs me the most...then the poor contrast tween the type on that gray...then the overall gray top bar too...
    just too too gray for me. if this continues to bug me, I'll just go back to CS3....dont need any of the new features in CS5....and the 'comfort' of using an interface that is easy to use is more imp to me than being "current" with versions ever would be...
    can't be alone on this either as I've read many many threads on this - just google for this and you'll see many think same as me....an app should be
    transparent in it's GUI usage....not a hindrance...

  • How do I set the range of pitch bend for the EFM-1?

    Hi folks,
    I have a simple patch for my EFM-1 and I want to apply a pitch bend in Mainstage.  It is presently set up to go a whole step up or down when the pitch bend is pushed all the way up (or down).  I probably set it up that way.....but I can't for the life of me remember how I did it, or how to change it.  For this particular patch, I need the pitch bend to go an octave.  Where do I set this usually easy-to-find parameter?  Is there a global setting?  (It seems to be set for a whole step for all patches).  A setting within the EFM-1?

  • How can I get Arrowheads to Overprint?

    Hello I was wondering if anybody could help me?
    I have created a map in illustrator CS4 and I have set all the black lines and text to overprint, but all the arrowheads on the map still knockout, does anyone know how I can change this?
    I created the arrows by drawing a stroke then selected Effect / Stylize / Add Arrowhead.
    Below is an example of whats happening:
    Any help would be much appreciated.

    Jacobs way is probably the safest and most direct way.
    However you should be able to select the stroke that the arrowheads are associated with and then set that to overprint.
    The different seems to be that if you select the stroke on the canvas it does not select the effect as well if you select it in the appearance panel it select the stroke and any effect it contains.
    I haven't tried it in this instance but that should work as log as the effect is contained with in the stroke. Even at this I would be more comfortable with the above technique
