How to go back in time?! iOS4 is extreamly slow on my 3G

I regret ever updating to iOS4. Is there a way I can downgrade back to 3.1?
I have attempted to "restore" and it still put me in iOS4

This has been asked and answered multiple times, if you'd just try and search these forums.
In summary: Apple doesn't sanction downgrades so discussion is against the Terms of Use of these forums.

  • HT201250 How to go back in time to a certain date

    Hi there,
I'm new here new, but I need your generous help.
The other day I downloaded free Adobe Reader XI (11.0.02) on the Adobe official site. Since then I can't read any pdf files on my Mac. I guess I didn't need to download it since I already had it on my PC. Yet, whatever I was working on at that time suggested me doing so, I followed the instructions and downloaded.
If you know any solutions please let me know. I would sincerely appreciate it.
A friend of mine has mentioned that the best way to solve the problem would be to go back in time to just before the date I downloaded the sofware causing problems. ... If it's really the best way, I want to try that but I don't know how. Please help me !
In advance, thank you for your time and generous help.
    Regards,
    Chiko

Restore the system from a Time Machine backup or bootable clone made before that date.

  • How to get back into Time Machine after restore?

I have a MacBook. I had to take it in for repairs. Fry's gave me a loaner Macbook. I successfully used the Migration Assistant to copy all my backups onto the loaner Macbook. All my apps and docs seem to be here.
But now I want to be able to "mount" to my old Time Machine backup "stream". I tried the control-click on Time Machine in the dock to connect to a previous backup, but when I enter Time Machine I can't find any history. I should have like 2 years worth of backups.
Any hints on how to "get back on" an old time machine sequence after a restore?

TM keeps the backups for each Mac separate, and normally only shows the ones for the Mac it's running on, even if there are other Macs' backups on the same disk/partition.
Also, sometimes TM will start a new "sequence" of backups, as if they were from a different Mac.
To see these "other" backups, you need the (badly named) +Browse Other Time Machine Disks+ option. It's available by holding down the Option key while selecting the TM icon in your Menubar, or by control-clicking (right-clicking) the TM icon in your Dock.
You'll see a selection screen showing all the disks/partitions that have TM backups on them. Select the one you want, and you'll be taken to the normal TM "Star Wars" interface, where you should see all the backups on that disk/partition.

  • HT201250 How can I back up Time Machine?

Looking for instructions for backing up Time Machine.  Eventually looking to purchase iCloud.

Thanks debbie, that caution basically means back up your existing system.
This is good advice. To use Time Machine, you simply need to obtain a backup drive (externally connected hard disk or a Time Capsule) and plug it in. The rest is very intuitive and completely automatic.
External backup disk drives are not terribly expensive - about $150 depending on size.
The reason your original question caused some confusion is that it was interpreted as having a backup disk of your backup disk. Two backups... belt and suspenders. Also a good idea, but overkill for most people.

  • I'm running Pages version 5.2 on a Desktop Mac version 10.9.2. with the Pages app open how do I use the Time Machine to go back five hours to see the work?

I'm running Pages version 5.2 on a Desktop Mac version 10.9.2. With the Pages app open how do I use the Time Machine to go back five hours to see my page? Can I access Time Machine within an app like Pages? How do I enter Time Machine within the application? It always takes me to the Finder. I apolgise for the mumbo jumbo. I simply do not know how to use Time Machine. It makes sense when I follow the Tutorial but then I lose it.

OK. You've kind of skipped over the reason why you want to go back five hours, but my assumption would be that you've made changes to a Pages file that you want to revert.
There are two ways to tackle this. From Pages itself, open the current version of your document, and from the File menu, click Revert To, and Browse All Versions. You'll then be in the Time Machine interface for that file, and can browse back to the version you want.
Or, outside of Pages, you can select the file (or the folder it was originally in, if you've since deleted it) and enter Time Machine from the TM menu (it sounds like you've already tried this?)

  • How do I move my Time Capsule from Ethernet back to Wireless?

Problem: i need to back to wireless use of TC from temporary use of TC via Ethernet.
    Background:
I have had my Time Capsule set up for years as my Airport / wireless hub and backup. No problem.
Until I went to restore iPhone from Time Machine and, separate problem, need to connect my MacBook Pro to my Time Machine by Ethernet cable in order to get a direct connection (iPhoto was not restoring from Time Machine wireless, kept hitting I/O errors. Worked fine when I did it with direct Ethernet connection, another story).
NOW, I can not see to figure out how to revert back to regular, wireless, Airport hub connection (vs. Eternet direct)
    Other information:
    1. When I open Airport Utility it does not "see" my Time Capsule at all.
    2. Also, it does not let me "see" manual setup, or anything else, except for "rescan" which turns up without any results.
    3. The amber light keeps flashing.
    4. Previously I turned TC off, then on by unplugging and plugging. Flashing amber light. Same problem.
    5. All cables are plugged in tight, from ISP/FIOS cable, to TC via Ethernet, and, hopefully temporarily!, from TC to my MacBook Pro via Ethernet cable (which is what I want to undo, and go back to wireless)
    6. I am able to access Internet staying with cable running in configuration in previous point.
    Thanks in adv

You could have the TC join your existing wireless network as a client, or you can can connect the Time Capsule's WAN port to the modem/router.
In both cases the TC's "connection sharing" should be set to "Off (Bridge Mode)".
If the TC "joins" the wireless network you can only back up over your wireless connection, so the second option is preferable.

A erase of the drive or boot partition is not always necessary.
Flashing question mark at boot could be a easy fix, sometimes it's the firmware that simply forgot what bootable volume to boot from.
Try holding the Option key down while booting the machine, a choice of bootable options appears, select your OS X and boot up.
When you get in, head to System Preferences > Startup disk and set it again new. This will tell the firmware what to boot from. Test it to see.
Now if you don't have a selection of bootable options, it could be that the drive is dead, or OS X is erased or corrupted so it can't boot.
You'll have to run through this list of fixes to see what's going on, if you need a hardware fix or what, I've also included links if you can't fix it and need to recover your data etc.
(If it's not remmebering your boot selection then also run through the list to reset things.)

  • How do I back up my iTunes folder to my time capsule?

How do I back up my iTunes folder to my Time Capsule?

    A couple of issues here:
First, keeping backups and other data on the TC's internal HD presents problems.  See #Q3 in Using Time Machine with a Time Capsule for an explanation and some possible workarounds.
Second, as Bob says, Time Machine can't back up either the TC's hard drive or a USB drive connected to it.
it's a bit messy, but this might work:
Attach a USB drive to the TC and put your iTunes library on it.
Create a disk image (as in #Q3) on the TC's internal HD, and use a 3rd-party app such as Chronosync to back iTunes up to the disk image.  I've not done that, so can't swear to it, but it appears it would work.

iLife is preinstalled on all the Macs. If you purchased iLife in the App Store or your computer came without DVDs, open App Store > Purchases and download the applications. If your Mac came with discs, insert the Applications DVD and install iLife applications

How do I back up my documents from my Macbook on iCloud? or can I only use time machine or external HD?
I think I have missed something in trying to read all of the pages on apple site about icloud.

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
You can't back up a computer to iCloud.
You can use any back up software, you should always back up to a different drive.

How can I force Time Machine to make a complete backup of my Hard Drive.  I just installed a new external drive for Backup since my previous one failed.  Now when I back up, Time Machine only backs up my data folder and the Users folder.
When I start a backup. Time Machine says "Oldest Backup: None; Latest Backup: None", so it seems like it should do a complete backup, but it only does a partial.

Hi I'd like to jump in here. Your app showed me this:
    Time Machine:
              Skip System Files: NO
              Mobile backups: OFF
              Auto backup: YES
              Volumes being backed up:
Macintosh HD: Disk size: 749.3 GB Disk used: 453.81 GB
              Destinations:
                        Plastic Wrapper [Local] (Last used)
                        Total size: 999.86 GB
                        Total number of backups: 64
                        Oldest backup: 2013-07-24 23:25:11 +0000
                        Last backup: 2013-11-17 01:40:47 +0000
Size of backup disk: Too small
                                  Backup size 999.86 GB < (Disk used 453.81 GB X 3)
Time Machine details may not be accurate.
All volumes being backed up may not be listed.
              /sbin excluded from backup!
              /usr excluded from backup!
              /System excluded from backup!
              /bin excluded from backup!
              /private excluded from backup!
              /Library excluded from backup!
              /Applications excluded from backup!
Aside from the size of my backup drive, which I will increase at some point, I'd really like to have time machine backing up all system folders, especially Applications. How to I reset this hidden exclusions?
    Thanks,
    Darcy

  • How can i back-up to my time capsule withoute a timemachine/Mac pc?

I installed my time capsule 3t yesterday but i cant Back up my iPhones and iPad to iT!
I dont have a Mac pc / timemachine but do have a Windows 7 laptop.
How can i give my time capsule instructions to Back up all my aplle devices?

Time Capsule is a dumb hard disk in a router.. you don't instruct it to do anything..
iOS is designed to backup to iCloud and iTunes..
    See http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1766
iTunes can then be backed up via your normal backup.. !!
Well win7 you will have to be creative.. if it has a home version windows you will need to use a 3rd party backup program anyway.
You can copy files to the TC from iOS using a file browser .. eg filebrowser.
