How to go back to firefox 4 lost java, plugins & acrobat in 5 firefox4 worked

firefox 4 was working just fine. I'm not sure what happened but it updated to 5 and everything quit working - Java, plugins and most annoying Adobe acrobat.
I try to watch a movie, ie weather channel, and it says I don't have acrobat so I download it and close/reopen the browser and try to watch the same movie and get the same error. I'm fed up. I want #4 back where I didn't have any problems
Improvements aren't worth the trouble if i lose the pleasure of using the program

Due to security vulnerabilities, rolling back to Firefox 4.0.1 is not recommended. Firefox 3.6.18 would be the safer choice.
Here's the process to roll back:
First, I recommend backing up your Firefox settings in case something goes wrong. See [https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Backing+up+your+information Backing up your information]. (You can copy your entire Firefox profile folder somewhere outside of the Mozilla folder.)
Next, download and save Firefox 3.6 to your desktop for future installation. http://www.mozilla.com/firefox/all-older
Close Firefox 5.
You could install Firefox 3.6 over it (many have reported success) or you could uninstall Firefox first. If you uninstall, do not remove your personal data and settings, just the program.
Unless you have installed an incompatible add-on, Firefox 3.6 should pick up where you left off. If there are serious issues, please post back with details.
As for your registration here on the support site, I don't know how you can delete it. But in the future, just use Google to find answers like this.

  • How to roll back from Firefox 29?

    Existing thread has been closed.
I want to say that I too hate version 29. If I wanted Chrome I'd just use Chrome. The whole reason I use Firefox is that I prefer its interface and operation. At least I used to.
It's no use you telling me or anyone else that 'it's not like chrome' or that I might just not like the 'appearance'. It is 'like' Chrome and I don't like the appearance. The problem is also the ergonomics - I find it much easier to use tabs at the bottom, MUCH easier to use 'back" and 'fwd' buttons where they used to be, much easier to use square tabs, much better to have a forward button that is always present (even if dimmed) than a tiny thing you have to aim for like an archer, and that is sometimes there and sometimes not. It's much more difficult to find the tiny refresh button located in a place that doesn't suit me - why not have all the commonly used controls over there on the left where they are all in the one place and your poor overworked brain doesn't have to think "Oh yes I'm looking for the 'x' button so I'll look in the place that logically makes sense in the 'x' area" -- which sounds good, but it actually much harder than "I want a control, I'll head up to the top left where the controls are ... ah there it is".
This new layout is a triumph of overthought and a basic lack of understanding of how 'normal, non-tech' people work.
The end result is ergonomically poor, no matter what the many studies and much research says.
And why the need to change in the first place? Many of us use FF because it was what it was, and we liked it. What's with the need to change for no reason? If it works, stick with it.
The whole thing looks like a poorly thought out response to 'we need to update because other browsers look cooler/sexier/more curvy/something than ours, so let's update'.
Someone at Mozilla needs to appreciate that change is irritating in itself, requires substantial input from the user, and therefore should ONLY be used when there is a compelling reason. Which there isn't.
    Gah :(

I would not recommend downgrading Firefox. Unsupported versions are not secure. You increase risks to your System and Personal data by using insecure software. When security fixes are released and publicised that also publicises the potential exploits.

Each setting you see in a computer program you use requires work; when a developer wants to build something new or improve something, he or she has to go through each related (hidden) setting and test if it still works like before and do that on each platform Firefox runs on. That's Apple's Mac OSX, various flavours of Linux and various flavours of Windows, including Windows XP. This costs time, lots of it, and that amount grows exponentially with each setting that's added. This comes on top of our work to continuously fix, improve and innovate Firefox. <br /> <br /> That's why we also removed the tabs.onTop preference. Awesome community members, who were unhappy about that change, created the Classic Theme Restorer add-on. They deserve our collective hugs.

Personally one of my major gripes is that the upgrade happens without prior warning of major changes, and then we are left in a changed Firefox trying to find out what works still. <br /> Sure the new features can best be demonstrated from the new version, but some prior warning with a chance to read up about the changes would surely help.

  • How can i change font used by the java plugin?

im running j2se 1.4.0 on win2k, and the java plugin is using a font that is not readable because sized way too small (also, the font is not a 'standard' font).
the font is also applied do class loading or exception messages in java applets (in IE5.5, but i don't think that this is browser-related).
is there a possibility to change to font (or the font size)?

thanks for the tip, but this problem seems not to be tightened to the font.properties file:
the wrong font is only used with the j2sdk1.4.0 plugin, not with that from j2re1.4.0 (actually, i had installed jre first, and afterwards j2sdk without removing j2re before). changing the plugin used back to j2re made the java console display the correct font (though the font.properties files were identically in both cases).

  • How to go back to Firefox 3.6? I cannot use Norton Identity Safe on Firefox 4 and I need use it often.

I was using earlier version of Firefox and it worked perfectly. Then I changed over to the 4.0 version and now I can no longer use the Norton Identity Safe. This is no good for me. I am now having to use Internet Explorer instead of Firefox. I would prefer to use Firefox. How can I go back to the earlier 3.6 version which was just fine as it was. The 4.0 version is good also except for knocking out the use of Norton Security features.

I need to return to Firefox 3 because I do not have an Intel Mac. The Mozilla window telling me to upgrade kept showing up, so I upgraded. But now I can't find an earlier version of Firefox to download.

  • How to roll back to Firefox 3.6 32 bit from Firefox 4 64 bit

I am running firefox 4 64 bit on windows 7. However my remote citrix connection for work needs a 32 bit browser. How can I install a 32 bit version on my PC when my OS is 64 bit?

I can tell by your user agent string that you are using the 32 bit version of Firefox 4.0.1
Your user agent string is '''Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; WOW64; rv:2.0.1) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/4.0.1''', the WOW64 part means you are using a 32 bit version on 64 bit Windows. A 64 bit browser would display win64 instead.
All release versions of Firefox on Windows are 32 bit, though a 64 bit version is being developed.

  • How do I set up Firefox with the same plugins, extensions and bookmarks on two different PCs?

    Hi,
You can copy the current [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder Firefox Profile Folder] on the PC to the same directory structure on the laptop after installing Firefox on the laptop. Next on the laptop, start the [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/Managing-profiles?s=profile&r=0&e=sph&as=s Profile Manager], '''Create Profile''' > '''Next''' > '''Choose Folder''' and select the copied folder.

  • How do you make what Firefox lists as "unknown plugins" known?

When I go to the Plugin Check page to check for updates, there is a list of the Plugins that I'm using... about half are "known" which enables me to update but the other half is listed as "Unknown plugin" which makes it so that I can't update them... how do I make those "known"?

Hi, i also have the same problem, and i try to keep my plugins all up to date, but the fact is that half of them continually says that are unknown!I did the research and try to download some of them - because the others can´t find the download buttons on the researched pages-, to download the newer version and still keep having the same message. For ex. i did the research for picnic and did the download of the newer version, although i thought i had already the newer version, and after doing that i closed firefox and open it again and clicked on check for updates and still gives me the same message saying that the plugin is unknown???'I just don´t understand!!The same thing for google talk plugin and for google earth, i downloaded the newer version and still keeps giving me the same message.I send here a screenshot of some of the plugins that have that message. I also realised that the big majority of them are from google, like google update, for ex.I just would like to say that i have the firefox updated too, i checked that.
    Thanks.

  • How to by pass downloading lower versions of Java Plugin ?

I have developed an applet which uses Java plug-in version 1.3.1. One of my friends is using 1.3.1.0.1a. I guess that this is the latest version. But program downloads 1.3.1 Java plug-in. How to bypass downloading lower versions of Java Plug-in if higher version is already installed on client machine ?
Can anyone of you help me in this regard ?
    Thanks,

OK, I am still getting duplicate JRE/Plug-ins installed side by side after trying this fix. Here are the steps I took (windows 2000, ie6):
    1. uninstalled JRE 1.3.1
    2. manually installed JRE 1.3.0 from sun site, verified it was installed and corresponding plug-in appears in control panel.
    2. modified applet startup page to contain "1.3" as suggested:
    PARAM NAME="type" VALUE="application/x-java-applet;version=1.3"
(left html-generator-created page containing object tag pointing to 1.3.1, as follows:)
    if (_ie == true) document.writeln('<OBJECT classid="clsid:CAFEEFAC-0013-0001-0000-ABCDEFFEDCBA" WIDTH = 750 HEIGHT = 450 codebase="http://java.sun.com/products/plugin/1.3.1/jinstall-131-win32.cab#Version=1,3,1,0"><NOEMBED><XMP>');
    3. ran applet page. it proposed downloading 1.3.1.
    4. responded 'no' to install. applet page opens blank.
    5. closed and retried applet page, responding 'yes' to 1.3.1 install. that install runs fine, applet starts, but both 1.3.1 and 1.3 JREs and plugins are present on the workstation.
    6. uninstalled 1.3 JRE, leaving 1.3.1 JRE, retried applet page. small black box appears in applet's place, and something appears to be downloading very very slowly.
    7. uninstalled 1.3.1 JRE, retried applet page, allowed normal plugin download install, applet worked fine.
I have not yet tried specifying an earlier JRE in the tag, and having a later JRE already on the workstation, although I would not be surprised to see duplicate JREs installed in this case as well..
We have had sporadic reports of people having workstations that simply would not run the applet when multiple JREs were present after the autodownload forced by this applet page. Also, IS departments are not going to like having standard environments updated whenever Sun wants, much less having defective configurations created. There really needs to be a way to prevent this problem.
Note: I did not modify the classID/codepath part of the html-generator page with the above suggestion about MIME type, since I did not see how it could be done.
    Any ideas?
Also, a comment was made that the html-generator becomes obsolete in 1.4 plugin. When will this be, and does this change modify the way the OBJECT tag is written, so that this problem doesn't keep occuring?
    Thanks,
    Kevin
