How to go back to iTunes 8.0

I have run into many of the problems listed about iTunes 8.1. Is there a way to go back to an older version without destroying my library? I see many have already done this but I don't want to mess things up even further.

Before you uninstall iTunes, make XML file backups of your playlists, ratings and such as well as keep a copy of the Library XML file: ‘iTunes Music Library.xml’ located in the ‘iTunes’ folder.
WARNING: It appears that the ITL Library file of iTunes 8.1 is not downward compatible with iTunes 8.0
Store your XML playlist files created for Playlist retention.
Archive the XML file of Ratings, Play Counts and Last Played attributes saved from the main Library and created by Otto’s SaveRatings script:
“Download this: http://ottodestruct.com/itunes/SaveRatings.zip . It's a program, just run it like any other program. Run it on the machine where you're copying the info from BEFORE you move the files to the new machine. Click the "Save Ratings" button and it'll create a ratings.xml file. Now when you move the files, move the program and this file as well. Then after you make your new iTunes library, run it again and click the "Restore Ratings" button. Voila, all your information is back in the Library. Well, most of it anyway, it's not perfect. It'll tell you what songs it couldn't figure out though, and there's usually not very many.”
Best of Luck

  • How do I back up itunes to dvd

How do i back up itunes to dvd.I have the latest update, but under file- library, there is no backup to disc now

The backup to disk option was removed as of iTunes 10.4. If you want to back up your tracks to a CD, you can as a workaround put the tracks in a playlist and then use the Burn Playlist to Disk command and select a data disk as the format. If you want to back up your tracks to a DVD now, you'll need to use other software. Unless your library is pretty small, though, it's probably a lot more effective to just copy the entire iTunes folder to an external hard drive or USB flash drive.

  • How do I back up iTunes to disk on version 10.6.3?

With the newest version of iTunes, there is no "back up to disk" function.  It used to be in File>Library>Back up to disk.  I'm guessing that since iCloud is out, we're supposed to use that.  However, I have purchases from 2006 of which I'm unsure if iCloud would keep forever.  Plus, I have music ripped from CD that I want to keep.  How am I supposed to back up my iTunes?  I'm looking at either backing up to DVD or another hard drive.

Backup to disc was removed about two years ago.
You should get (already have) an external drive for backing upcountry computer.

  • How do I back up Itunes library to External HD?

    Hello:
Anyone who read my prior post knows that my internal CD-RW Drive crashed. I am now forced to find another method to finally get around to backing up my itunes library which currently has about 2-3 GB of music. When I open itunes and go to file it gives me the option to backup to disk. Obviously with the external HD I will not be backing up to disk. Can anyone assist me with the following:
    1. How will I backup my data to the external HD once I get it today (I am not all that computer literate so as detailed as you can be would be much appreciated).
    2. If I ever need to restore my itunes music back onto itunes how do I accomplish this?
    3. Will backing up my itunes also back up all of my podcasts or just music that I purchased or downloaded from CD, ect.
    4. After I backup today on the external HD can I then open another itunes account on my wife's computer (which is brand new and much faster supporting USB 2.0 where mine is 1.1) and transfer all of my data to her computer so that I do not have to use my computer anymore?
THANKS FOR THE TIME READING THIS!!! I greatly appreciate any replys and have a safe and happy new year!

Its pretty simple to do. Long as you have some extra space to spare on your INTERNAL harddrive (aka the C drive in windows) because you will want to consolidate the library.
In iTUnes when you goto Advanced>Consolidate library it will COPY all songs listed in itunes to the "iTUnes Music" folder, located in My Music>iTUnes.
All purchased items from the itunes store are already in this folder, so itunes will not copy them.
Once this is done all you need to do is goto My Music rightclick the "iTUnes" folder and select copy.
Now open "My Computer" double click the external drive there, rightclick in a blank field and hit "Paste". this will put the whole itunes folder on the external drive with all your music AND the "iTUnes Library.xml" file.
Now use the "Safly remove hardware" to remove/eject the external drive from your PC (This will be a little small green arrow icon in the lower righthand corner of windows, where the clock is).
Far as your wifes computer goes, you may have to create your own user account in windows first UNLESS she doesn't use itunes or you want to combine all your music with hers on her user account in windows.

  • How do I back-up Itunes music onto an external drive?

I wanted to know how I can back up my Itunes onto an external drive. I tried to back up but it will take about 9 discs to burn it onto. Can;t I just drop and drag all the songs onto an external drive?

"Choose Consolidate Library from the Library section of the File menu in iTunes".
I started this process and a screen popped up advising me this was irreversible and was I sure I wanted to do it. I clicked no until I could get further advice. If I do this, what is the outcome/consequences and why would they warn me?

  • How do go back to Itunes 10.7 from Itunes 11

How do I go back to Itunes 10.7 from itunes 11 without losing everything in my library and ipod nano 4th gen? I detest the Itunes 11 version. Wish I never upgraded to it.

It is not trivial but it can be done. If you are determined to revert to 10.7 read this post from Apple Support Communities contributor Limnos.

  • How do I back up iTunes audio to external hard drive

I want to store my audio books currently in iTunes to WD Passport 120G external drive but when I export them they appear as encoded text. How do I get them stored so I can bring them back into iTunes to listen or download to my iPod.

Outside iTunes, copy the files to the external hard drive. If you have not done it already it might be a good idea to backup to external drive anything purchased from iTunes also.
Audiobooks are generally stored under the authors name in the iTunes folders.

  • How to revert back to iTunes 6.05

First, go into My Documents / My Music / iTunes and see if there is a directory called Previous iTunes Libraries. Open this and find the one with the most recent date and copy it to your desktop.
Now go ahead and uninstall iTunes. Restart if necessary.
    Download iTunes 6.05 from here:
    http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/itunes605forwindows.html
While you wait for your download to finish, go back into your iTunes directory from above. Look for the file named "iTunes Library.itl" and copy this name. Then delete this file. The file that you copied to your desktop, rename it to "iTunes Library.itl" and move it to this iTunes directory.
Install 6.05 and your music should be exactly where you left it pre-iTunes 7.
    Cheers!

As a great lover of the music video side of iTunes I can't really convey how disappointed I am with apple on this latest update.
My player no longer has a videos section at all! I don't watch tv or movies right now so those areas mean nothing to me, obviously they could have left the video section in.
And what is with the window size? even fully maximised it's too big for my laptop screen! Scrolling that extra centimetre to read the end of every comment sentence is vastly annoying and unnecessary.
Also, previewing videos is now barely worth it as the play back is so inferior to the previous incarnation. Bigger screen does NOT mean a better view when the video can't keep up with the track.
A new update to fix these errors please apple.

  • How do I back up itunes library to an external hard to free memory on my Macbook?

I have just noticed that a majority of my memory is being used by my itunes library. I was told that I can transfer and use an external to free up space on my macbook.I am in need of some type of step by step or a good link to walk me through it.I don't want to lose any of the movies or music I have accumulated, I am fairly new to the Apple world and just need some beginner help. Thanks

    Nah that's fine I think.
The other thing to make sure of, is that you aren't doubling up on your music/video/podcasts.
If you have a neat folder where all your stuff is great. But if you have set itunes to Copy files to iTunes Media Folder when adding to library, then there is going to be 2 copies. Your original, and your copy, as far as I can remember.
    You should double check that.
Because your backups will be backing up twice as much.
Also note, time machine backups back up all files that have been changed. If you are downloading a 5GB movie, if you download an extra 4MB and do backup again, it will backup another 5GB file.
I always have my download folder as not part of the backup due to this.
You could also add a 2nd HDD in your Macbook: http://eshop.macsales.com/owcpages/datadoubler/

  • How do i back up iTunes and i photo to my external drive

My hard drive is nearly full and this is mainly down to old DVD's that I have loaded on my iMac that i can watch through Apple TV to save all the clutter. I have a 4TB Lacie external drive that I would like to transfer them to. How would I do this?

    Hi ROSSS77,
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!
You can move your entire iTunes Media folder to your external hard drive to free up space on your internal hard drive. Please read over and use the information in the attached article to complete this process.

  • How to roll back to iTunes 11.0.5?

If I have a copy of iTunes 11.0.5 on a backup drive, what would be the proper way to move it back to my Mac and replace this horrible 11.1 version? Is it a simple matter of just trashing 11.1 and copying 11.0.5 over? Or are there system files that would need to be copied over, too?
Any help with this will be greatly appreciated.

I don't think you can as long as it would require to remove iTunes, which is part of the system.
Not to mention that if you have some devices running iOS7 will not work with previous versions of iTunes than 11.1

  • How do I back up iTunes and iPhoto

I am so confused on how to backup Itunes and iphoto? help please

This forum is for questions from those managing sites on iTunes U, Apple's service for colleges and universities to post educational material in the iTunes Store. You'll be most likely to get help with this issue if you ask in the general iTunes and iPhoto forums.
