  • Reverting back to Mountain Lion from Mavericks via Time Machine?

    Hi all
I'm wondering if anybody has successfully downgraded from Mavericks back to Mountain Lion. I am fed up with all the bugs with Mavericks...I should never have upgraded. However, I did make a system backup via Time Machine before upgrading. I'm not sure if it is possible to go back, though. Has anyone successfully done it via Time Machine? I'm also having trouble getting to the restore menu - I have a PC keyboard (which works fine for the Mac), but it doesn't do anything when I hit Command (well, the PC equivalent) + R or Option when I restart. The only thing that seems to work is Command+Option+R, which takes me to the Internet recovery, though I'm not sure if I can go back to my old system via Time Machine on that. Anyway, would appreciate any thoughts on this.

Boot OS X Recovery by holding ⌘ r (two fingers) while you start your Mac. OS X Internet Recovery, which you were able to invoke with your non-Apple keyboard, will work just as well.
Once the Mac OS X Utilities screen appears, select Restore from Time Machine Backup.
Select the TM backup of your Mountain Lion system prior to upgrading - their backup dates and OS X versions will appear, so you will be looking for the most recent backup of your system when it was running OS X version 10.8.5.
When it completes, your Mac will restart and your previous system state will have been restored. After that, uninstall any third party software and system modifications incompatible with Mavericks before contemplating an upgrade.

  • Reverting back to Mountain Lion from Mavericks

    Hi,
I just upgraded up OS X Mavericks and all of my Adobe software (Photoshop, After Effects and Premiere) open and work fine.
When I open Encore CS 5.1, it freezes with the Beach Ball. Is there anything I can do or download to get it to open up?
If I have to, is there a way to go back to Mountain Lion without erasing my hard drive and losing all of my software. I use Encore and it worked fine in Mountain Lion.
    Thanks in advance.

You'll need to purchase a USB HD and backup first.

  • Reverting back to mountain lion from maverick

My system has been very slow and unstable after upgrading to Maverick I would like to do a clean install of Mountain Lion. What I need to know is can I copy all my applications on my current system drive to an unused internal drive and reinstall them back to the system drive once Mountain Lion is installed or is there a better way to go about this?

why not leave well enough as is.  Then install Mavericks on a new SSD instead. Hope you planned ahead and made your own flash installer and saved the package from before so you don't need to redownload.
As for your experience, may you upgraded over ML? Maybe you have things you didn't realize but that are not compatible or never should have been there. Or something.
I would never upgrade in place.
Setup Assistant will offer to import from any system it sees when it loads the first time, so you don't need to do anything in that regard. Other than make sure you have latest drivers, apps, programs and such - but I would take it slowly and see how a clean install of Mavericks runs first.
And CLONE your system(s) before upgrading, or installing, or making changes. It really works and lets you boot off any system you want, on any drive - SSD, one drive wtih ML and Mavericks on it.
The SSD will make the best improvement in performance. 250GB is now $154 for Samsung's 840 EVO.

  • Why doesn't Migration Assistant recognize my backup disk after rolling back to Mountain Lion from Mavericks?

I rolled back my OS from Mavericks to Mountain Lion and now the Migration Assistant isn't finding my Time Machine backups.  Any idea why this is?

One reason may be a different computer name.  Check System Preferences > Sharing and make sure your computer name has been the same through all your various OS X iterations.

  • Clear procedure to move back to Mountain Lion from Maverick

    Hi,
I had a question related to the purchasing of Moutain Lion on apple store.
Having some trouble with many of my device (for egs 3G key) which are not upgraded (software) to face Maverick, I bought online a version of Moutain Lion to downgrade to this OS for the time needed to see the drivers being uprgraded
But it seems the procedure is quite complex when you have to face a downgrade of the OS.
Is there any clear procedure available to follow to realize such change (answers on forums are numerous but often complex)
Thanks in advance for any response

  • How does one revert to Mountain Lion from Mavericks?

I got a new iMac a week and a half ago. It was running Mtn Lion, with i73.5, 8gb ram. I upped the memory to 16gb and installed Mavericks.
Now I have some issues that others are experiencing with Photoshop: some keyboard shortcuts not working, strange cursor behavior. There are some other things, just within my computer's behavior, that I'm not sure aren't related to Mavericks, as well, but since I've never worked on a Mac before last week, I just don't know.
The problems seem to be fixed, as reported by others over in Adobe forums, by reverting to Mountain Lion, and waiting for bug fixes in Mavericks.
I am new to the Mac world so I'd appreciate some detailed advice on the best way to do that.
    Thanks for your help.

You should be calling AppleCare regarding problems with a new Mac. Telephone support is free for the first 90 days of ownership.
Various Adobe apps have had problems with Mavericks. Apple can't fix Adobe's problems. Consult Adobe for support options.

  • I have switched back to Mountain Lion from Mavericks. Now I can't add iPhoto back to my computer. To save headaches I even tried to purchase again but in the app store, the old version is not available..?

    Please help.

    You will have to
    reinstall from the original source
    Could be
1 - the restore disks that came with the computer
    or
2 - the iLife DVD that you purchased
    or
3 - the app store - log in under the Apple id used to purchase the software or to set up the computer - look under purchases - you might have to unhide or accept the Application first
Then you will have to restore your backup of the older iPhoto library from your backup

  • How to go back to Mountain lion os x 10.8 again from mavericks.?

How to go back to Mountain lion os x 10.8 again from mavericks.?

You can reinstall your system from a backup (Time Machine or "clone") or erase it completely and reinstall Mountain Lion.
OS X Mountain Lion: Erase and reinstall OS X
If your Mac shipped with Mountain Lion already installed, you can reinstall it. Otherwise, you can only reinstall Mountain Lion if you purchased it from the App Store.
You may be better off describing the problems you're experiencing, so that they can be fixed. The vast majority of Mavericks complaints are due to outdated or poorly written software or similarly incompatible system modifications, and some simple troubleshooting may reveal the cause.

How to keep finder in mountain lion from opening at startup.?

    Now you got me thinking....
One can set things up so Finder can be quit like any other application.  In Terminal:
    defaults write com.apple.finder QuitMenuItem 1
    Then relaunch the Finder.
I guess it might be possible to make a an Applescript or Automator application which runs at start up and quits the Finder.

  • How do I upgrade to Mountain lion from 10.5.8?

So it seems as though this is going to be a major hassle. My java has corrupted and the only way to get it to work again is to upgrade my system.
(I know that this is the only way because I have tried everything imaginable and after trying everything imaginable, I went to the apple store and the rep told me the only way to fix the problem is to upgrade my OS because apple no longer offers patches for 10.5.) BTW, 10.5.8 does not have the App store.. which seems to be where I am running into all of my problems.
Since I have to upgrade my system, I want to go ahead and upgrade it to the most recent OS (which is mountain lion). It seems like the only way to do this is to buy snow leapord (which is no longer offered by apple) and then to purchase mountain lion from the app store. So now my problem is where to buy snow leapord? Well it seems like amazon and a number of other non apple retailers offer it for $100+ which is absolutely rediculous for an OS that used to cost $19.99 when it came out.
So I guess my real question is, can I buy the mountain lion OS on a usb flash drive and just bypass having to buy snow leapord? I know its not out on the flash drive yet, but will it eventually come out on the flash drive? If not, can I just buy lion on the USB and bypass having to buy snow leapord? Or has apple found a way to make me spend unnecessary money on a system that I will not use because I am just going to buy their more recent system?
I appreciate any and all help as I am seemingly at an impass (unless I want to spend in excess of $130 just to get a $30 OS).

Those are all questions for Apple to answer and I'm sorry do not have anything to do with Pages.
There are several alternatives. Apple did have Lion on a USB flash drive, you could try installing that then using the M.A.S. to upgrade to Mountain Lion.
When you install Lion/Mountain Lion btw, make sure you back up the installer to use directly in the future. There are several guides how to do that online.

  • Revert back to osx mountain lion from mavericks?

Since updating to osx mavericks I have encountered numerous issues with my multi display set up to the extent that I have decided to go back to mountain lion
My question is how do I go about doing this as I have tried to go through the recovery but this only gives me the option to install mavericks
I have daily back ups so data loss is not a threat and I understand that erasing the drive is the most likely option
Any help  will be appreciated I need this fixed ASAP as I need the set up for audio & video editing work!!!
