How to go from exchange to non-exchange integration?

Due to security policies, customers wanted to stop receiving voicemail via outlook all together but via the phones only. Without rebuilding Unity from scratch, is there a quick solution for this? I think I could block the Exchange IP from getting to Unity so to make Unity thinks that Exchange is down. That way, Unity won't send anything to Exchange and all messages will get stored locally on Unity. However, I'm looking for a more permanent solution instead. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Unfortunately, Unity is dependent upon Exchange to function properly.  Even in a voicemail-only configuration, messages are still sent to a user mailbox in Exchange.  The difference between that and the Unified Messaging configuration you have today is that the email account that receives the mailbox used to receive any given user's messages is basically invisible to users.  To the contrary, with Unified Messaging the user's mailbox that Unity sends messages to is their actual mailbox that they use day in and day out.  You could switch to a voicemail-only configuration and that's really the only viable option with Unity.  You do not want to trick Unity into thinking that Exchange is down - this would force Unity into UMR mode and that's undesirable.
The other option which warrants some serious consideration is to migrate off of Unity and over to Unity Connection.  When you do that, you could migrate user data over and provide voicemail-only or integrated messaging (IMAP).

  • How to switch from glossy to non-glossy screen (2010 model)

I will only have access to an Apple Store or AASP in the next week. In the mean time, I'm wondering if there's any reason to this:
I had a 2007 Macbook Pro 15" on Apple Care, which was close to expiring. The computer wasn't functioning properly, so I took it to an Apple Store and they tried to repair it. A few days later, I go back there and I get the news that my Macbook Pro won't even turn on anymore, so they give me the new 2010 Macbook Pro 15" as a free replacement. My old one had a matte (non-glossy) screen, but they informed me they didn't have any ones with matte screen to give to me at the time. Since I needed the computer on that day, I had to take one with a glossy screen home.
That happened on May. Now, I'm finally able to have access to an Apple Store, so I wonder how I can get my Macbook Pro to have a matte screen. I believe I have the right to have a matte screen, but it has been to long.

    Hi Roberto,
This question can only be answered by Apple. This is a user-to-user forum and the question you're asking is related to the policies and procedures for unit replacements handled by Apple. Typically, from my experience, when Apple offers a unit replacement the one you get is... the one you get. If the matte screen was that critical, then you should have asked to have it ordered and waited.
Perhaps Apple can exchange your replacement computer (after 3 months), but again that question can only be answered by Apple.

  • How to migrate from exchange 2007 to 2013 step by step tutorials please

    Hi
I am running Windows Server 2008 standard, with exchange 2007 SP2 on it.
We have 800 mailbox in total
    Our domain controllers are
Win2012 R2 and I would like to upgrade to Exchange 2013 on Windows server 2012 R2.
I am running a VM, on VMware environment, so my Windows 2012 R2 is a VM.
Is there a website or document that explains in detail, step by step how to upgrade from 2007 to 2013.
I currently only have 1 exchange server 2007, with all the roles on the one server.  I would like to keep that same as
    well with exchange 2013.
    Thanks

Exchange server deployment assistant is always a good service provider to achieve this task as it simply ask few questions about your current environment and proceed further accordingly.
You can refer to this blog explained by technet team that will assist you further to gather more information in depth : http://blogs.technet.com/b/meamcs/archive/2013/07/25/part-1-step-by-step-exchange-2007-to-2013-migration.aspx
Moreover, to avoid the interruptions and proceed a hassle-free migration from exchange 2007 to 2013, this application (http://www.exchangemigrationtool.com/) could also be a good approach to accomplish
migration task in more secure way.

  • How to migrate public folders from legacy (exchange 2003 ) to exchange 2010

How to migrate public folders from legacy (exchange 2003 ) to exchange 2010 . Please suggest ?
    Aditya Mediratta

    Hi Aditya,
    please find the answer in
    http://blogs.technet.com/b/agobbi/archive/2010/08/04/how-to-move-public-folder-from-exchange-2003-to-exchagne-2010.aspx
Please ensure you have a working mailflow from Exchange 2003 to 2010, vice versa, before you begin.
Basically it's the same procedure as adding some PF Database in E2K3; just
run .\AddReplicaToPFRecursive.ps1 -server "Exchange 2010 Server" -TopPublicFolder "\" -ServerToAdd "Exchange 2010 Server"
Wait until some initial data started to replicate; after that run
    Update-PublicFolderHierarchy -Server "Exchange 2010 Server"
After replication has finished you can do a
.\MoveAllReplicas.ps1 -Server "Exchange 2003 Server" -NewServer "Exchange 2010 Server"
Please let me know if it worked.
    Kind regards,
    Martin

  • How many system mailboxes should be in exchange 2013 after moving from exchange 2010?

Hi, I am moving mailboxes from exchange 2010 to exchange 2013, I noticed that in exchange 2013, besides discovery search mailbox, there are other 5 system mailboxes.(especially, there are 2 x Microsoft Exchange system mailboxes) Please see the pic attached.
    Does this look right? thanks

Looks perfectly fine - Why MS decided to name two of the five arbitration mailboxes the same (Microsoft Exchange) is unclear but it is what it is :)

  • Upgrading from SBS 2008 and Exchange Server 2007 and Adding Modest Failover Protection

I haven't seen anyone describe this scenario, so maybe it can't be done, but it seems it should work. Can someone either confirm this is viable or set me straight and tell me it's not wise (and if not, why not).
I currently have SBS 2008 (2008 Server + Exchange Server 2007 + some other components). I use redirected folders so all my user data is stored primarily on the server, and then sync'd with their local harddrives for roaming use and as an additional
backup precaution. I want to upgrade to a modern version of Exchange (don't care too much about the underlying server OS, but seems like a good time to upgrade everything). I also want to improve the reliability for rapid recovery in the event of a system
failure. I have always felt nervous with SBS because it only runs on a single server.
    My plan is:
Install Windows Server 2012 Standard on a new server machine
Join that new server to the existing SBS domain and sync the users, etc.
Install Exchange Server 2013 on the new 2012 Server
Migrate the existing Exchange data and account info to the new server
Demote the SBS Server and promote the new server to primary DC
Reformat the old SBS server and install Windows Server 2012 on it too, and join it to the domain as a second DC
Set up DFS Replication and keep all my user data folders between the two servers (so if one server fails, the other can take over, just not automatically like with a cluster)
Install Exchange Server 2013 on the reformatted 2012 Server box (so second instance on the domain) and set it up to sync with the first Exchange Server 2013 via DAG (so if either computer crashes, the other can take over for both Exchange Server and file
    services)
Wouldn't that give me a complete slow-response failover system without the need for setting up a cluster (I know a cluster would provide instant failover protection, but I don't need that kind of speed - a manual switchover in the rare event of a server
failure is acceptable for us)? I could do this using cheap hardware for each server, because unless both servers fail at the same time, clients can point to the other server. And because it's not a formal cluster, I don't need to buy anything for a shared
SAN. This seems like such an obvious more cost-effective solution for a small network, I don't understand why this isn't a common approach, which makes me wonder if there is some reason it won't work.
Any suggestions or feedback? Are Redirected Folders still recommended for users on a Server 2012-based domain?
    Thanks,
    Colin
    Colin

Ed, thanks again for your help. OK, so here's my updated plan (I realize I should probably check on some of these pieces on the Server group, instead of this Exchange group).
    Constraints/objectives:
None of the machines are truly server grade hardware, but only 5 people on the network, so performance is generally not an issue, unless a given server is just pegged on CPU or HD due to its own internal maintenance tasks and can't respond to user requests.
Haven't seen any problems, since upgrading server from 4GB RAM to 8GB a few years ago.
Not going to buy any new hardware at this time, but do have several unused consumer-grade computers I can deploy as wimpy or moderate servers.
Main issue is to limit repair time in the event of a system failure (instant failover is not required, but want to be able to restore network functions within less than 24 hours in the event of a hardware failure) and minimize time spent on IT
    maintenance.
Because of light IT maintenance (not anyone's primary job and we're too small to justify a dedicated IT person or to pay for outside help), almost every touch takes me research and time to re-learn what I haven't done in weeks, months, or years -- so also
want to keep all IT tasks as simple as possible.
We philosophically want to invest now for the next 5 years and avoid ongoing cloud fees (so zero interest in Windows Server Essentials with Exchange Online)
A little nervous about using VM's, just because I never have before, but I do respect that's probably the right way to do many of these things...
Currently I have SBS 2008 (Windows Server 2008 R2, Exchange Server 2007, WSUS 3, all with latest SP's, also includes SharePoint and other stuff, but I don't really care about most of it) on a single 8GB consumer grade system, which functions as a file
server and Exchange server. We use Redirected Folders and Offline files for all users, which works great for us and provides additional file redundancy (if server goes down, all of each user's files are also on their own machine and they can even continue
to work just fine w/o the server, losing only ability to send and receive e-mail). It has been sufficient, but I want to upgrade our version of Exchange and I am nervous that if that current one server fails, it would take me a long time to restore everything
from backup, easily many days, especially if I need to buy any replacement hardware. It is RAID1, so a single drive failure is easy to handle, but that's the only hardware redundancy for the current server.
    New Plan:
Install Windows Server 2012 R2 Standard on a new modest machine (16GBR RAM, Core i7, 1TB RAID1 (may upgrade to 3 or 4 TB), 256 GB SSD boot drive, this had been my old personal computer)
Join that new server to the existing SBS domain (2008 R2/Exchange 2007), make it a DC, sync the users, etc.
Install Windows Server 2012 R2 Standard on a wimpy computer (4GB RAM Core i3 processor), leave it as a member server
Install Exchange Server 2013 on the wimpy new 2012 R2 Server (and nothing else, this will be dedicated to Exchange to make the most of such a wimpy machine)
Migrate the existing Exchange data from the old SBS Exchange 2007 server and account info to the new server
(or should I just create new accounts and copy the data from the user end through Outlook -- is that safer and cleaner than attempting any kind of server-level Exchange data migration?)
Demote the old SBS Server and promote the new 16GB server to primary DC. Now it's OK to take the old SBS server off the network.
Reformat the old SBS server and install Windows Server 2012 R2 on it too, and join it to the domain as a second DC (and possibly DCPROMO it to be the main server)
Install Exchange Server 2013 in a VM on the reformatted 2012 R2 Server box (so second instance on the domain for Exchange redundancy) and set it up to sync with the first Exchange Server 2013 via DAG OR set up another physical wimpy member server and install
it there. In any case, do NOT install Exchange directly on either DC.
Set up DFS Replication or a Failover Cluster (still need to research this, but I had planned on DFS, thinking Cluster required shared drive, but Ed corrected me on this) between the two DC's for redirected files and keep all my user data folders between
the two servers. We don't need automatic failover, like with a cluster, a manual switch would be acceptable, but if no additional cost or risk to clustering the two DC's, then the auto-failover protection that provides would be better than DFS.
I think this incorporates all of your points, Ed. Does this sound right now? What's your advice on #5 (how to best migrate user data)?
Thanks so much for all your help,
    Colin

  • Removing Public Folders after migration from Exchange 2007 to Exchange 2013

Recently we migrated from Exchange 2007 to Exchange 2013.  We did not migrate Public Folders and are retiring them from Exchange altogether.  I shut Exchange 2007 off for a couple of weeks to ensure 2013 functions properly and it does so we're
ready to decommission Exchange 2007.  I was able to remove all the mailbox databases without a glitch.  Using the EMC I click to remove the Public Folder database from Exchange 2007 and get the following message:
Error: The public folder database "server\storage group - Public Folders\ Public Folder Database" contains folder replicas.  Before deleting the public folder database, remove the folders or move the replicas to another public folder database.
    Any help appreciated.

    Hi Terry,
If you run the following command does it come back with any public folders?
    Get-PublicFolderStatistics -Server "SERVERNAME" | fl
If nothing comes back you can follow this guide to manually remove the public folder database (at your own risk) http://haythamalex.wordpress.com/2011/11/24/how-to-force-exchange-server-public-folder-removal/
    Cheers,
    Jack
I get alot of output from that command.

  • ActiveSync stops working after migrating from Exchange 2007 to Exchange 2013

We have started the migration from Exchange 2007 to Exchange 2013. We've followed best practices and everything is working great except ActiveSync. I've performed Exchange migrations in the past so this is nothing new for me. I've also been referring to
a great guide which has been a big help,
    http://www.msexchange.org/articles-tutorials/exchange-server-2013/migration-deployment/planning-and-migrating-small-organization-exchange-2007-2013-part1.html.
Once a user is migrated from Exchange 2007 to 2013, ActiveSync stops working properly. Email can be pulled to the device (Nokia Lumia 625 running Windows Phone 8) by performing a manual sync. But DirectPush is not working. The strange part is it's not affecting
everyone who's been migrated. Anyone who is still on Exchange 2007 is not affected.
At first I thought it was our wildcard certificate. 99% of our users are running Outlook 2013 on Windows 7 or higher but we do have a few terminal servers still running Outlook 2010. Outlook 2010 was giving us certificate errors. I realized it was the wildcard
certificate. Rather than making changes to the OutlookProvider I simply obtained a new SAN certificate. Although that resolved the issues for Outlook 2010 users, ActiveSync was still a problem.
Rebooting the phones and removing the email account from the user's device and re-adding it didn't resolve the issue either.
Then I performed an iisreset on the CAS server. This didn't help either. I didn't know it at the time, but I was getting closer...
I tried using the cmdlet Test-ActiveSyncConnectivity but it gave me the following error:
WARNING: Test user 'extest_0d9a45b025374' isn't accessible, so this cmdlet won't be able to test Client Access server
    connectivity.
Could not find or sign in with user DOMAIN.com\extest_0d9a45b025374. If this task is being run without
credentials, sign in as a Domain Administrator, and then run Scripts\new-TestCasConnectivityUser.ps1 to verify that
the user exists on Mailbox server EX02.DOMAIN.COM
I started reviewing how Exchange 2013 proxied information from the CAS to the mailbox server and realized the issue may in fact be on the mailbox server.
I performed an iisreset on the mailbox server and all of a sudden ActiveSync started working again. Awesome!
I can't explain why. The only thing I can assume is when some users were migrated from 2007 to 2013 something wasn't being triggered on the Exchange 2013 side. Resetting IIS resolved the issue. I guess I'll have to do an IIS reset after I perform a batch
of migrations. Disabling ActiveSync and re-enabling it for the affected users didn't help - only the IISRESET resolved the issue.
If anyone has any information as to why this happens, please chime in. Also, if anyone knows why I can't run the Test-ActiveSyncConnectivity cmdlet, I'd appreciate the help.
    Thanks.

    Hi,
In Exchange 2013, the Public Folder is changed to Public Folder mailbox instead of Public Folder in Exchange 2007 database.
Due to the changes in how public folders are stored, legacy Exchange mailboxes are unable to access the public folder hierarchy on Exchange 2013 servers. However, user mailboxes on Exchange 2013 servers or Exchange Online can connect to legacy
public folders. Exchange 2013 public folders and legacy public folders can’t exist in your Exchange organization simultaneously. This effectively means that
    there’s no coexistence between versions.
For this reason, it’s recommended that prior to migrating your public folders, you should
first migrate your all legacy mailboxes to Exchange 2013. For more information about migrating public folder from previous versions, please refer to:
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj150486(v=exchg.150).aspx

  • Cross Forest Migration from Exchange 2007 to Exchange 2013

    Hi
Could anybody advice me the steps also the  pros and cons for below mentioned environment if we are going for the cross forest migration.
    Source
    Domain -   test.local
    Active Directory -  Windows 2003
    Exchange Server - 2007
    Target
    Domain -   test.net
    Active Directory -  Windows 2012
    Exchange Server - 2013
Also if it is possible ,
How could I remove the source environment including the exchange servers. after the migration ?
    Regards
    Muralee

    Hi Oliver ,
    Please suggest us.
In my environment we are in a plan to migrate from exchange 2007 to exchange 2013 (cross forest migration).
    Source : Exchange 2007 with sp3 ru 10
Target : Exchange 2013 with cu2 ( new environment yet to be created).
Trust : Forest trust in place (two way )
Domain and forest functional level : 2003 in both target and source
    Migration Steps :
    Step1 :
We are in a plan to execute 'preparemoverequest.ps1' first in the target forest ,so that we will get the disable MEU
    in the target forest.
    Step2:
Then we are going to use ADMT to migrate users SID'S and password .
    Step3:
Then we are going to move the mailboxes with New-moverequest
Please have a look in to our steps and suggest us ,whether we are going to proceed the migration in a right way or not
.Is anything needs to be changed please intimate me .
    Thanks
    S.Nithyanandham
    Hey there,
Sorry for taking a little while to get back to you, i've been busy working on Hosted Lync deployments!
Use ADMT first, then when using preparemoverequest.ps1 script using the -uselocalobject cmdlet. This will then tie it up to the ADMT migrated account.

  • Establish mail flow from Exchange 2007 to Exchange 2013

I am currently using Exchange 2007 into three sites in three cities and two of the sites are connected to Internet sending and receiving emails via Edge transport servers.
Now I am planning to upgrade to exchange 2013 CU1. I don't find any documentation on how to establish mail flow between Exchange 2007 and Exchange 2013. Will it be automatic or do i need to create specific connectors between them?

Was this question answered.  We're in the same situation now as we're upgrading to Exchange 2013 from 2007. The latest CU certainly helped.   Initially the test mailboxes on Exchange 2013 couldn't email each other - This was resolved with CU7 and
using "Custom Settings" - manually entered IPs for DNS in the Exchange  Admin Center "DNS Lookups".
Issue at the moment Test mailboxes on Exchange 2013 cannot email mailboxes on 2007 or visa-versa and mail from external sources queues on the 2007 box.
Any assistance will be greatly appreciated.

  • Public folders from exchange 2007 to exchange 2013

HI I am new to exchange, i am planning to do the migration of Exchange 2007SP3 UR10 to Exchange 2013 CU7, I want to move public folders from exchange 2007 to exchange 2013. wht is the procedure to move and wht are the commands to know how many public folders
i have.I just want to be aware before the installation so that later i can avoid issues.please do guide me

    Hi Quiett,
please find  how to move public folders on ttp://www.msexchange.org/articles-tutorials/exchange-server-2013/migration-deployment/migrating-public-folders-exchange-2013-part1.html
You can replace your servers names and follow exactly the proedure that is shown there. I strongly suggest to read also the 2nd page (replication) before you start. Please be aware of
Set-OrganizationConfig –PublicFoldersLockedForMigration $True , so you cannot change the source side whle migrating.

  • Migration from Exchange 2007 to Exchange 2013

We are migrating from Exchange 2007 to Exchange 2013. We have a new Exchange 2013 server will all of the roles installed, but none of the mailboxes have even been moved yet. We are seeing some of our users getting prompted to accept the self signed certificate
on the exchange 2013 server. Exchange 2007 server is still handling all of the mail flow and connectors. Any reason why some of our users would be prompted with the certificate for the exchange 2013 server even though their mailbox is still on exchange 2007.
Our users are on outlook 2010.

    Hi,
Could you show us what is the prompt details?
According to your desciption,I recommend you refer to the following methods to troubleshoot:
1.Please check if outlook anywhere been configured to connect exchange 2013.
2.Ctrl+Right click outlook, use “Test E-mail AutoConfiguration” to check all the settings .
    Thanks.
