  • How to get into Safe Mode (win7)

    I have a user who installed Windows 7 on his Mac (natively). He now has a virus - which means he needs to run his AV software in SAFE MODE (running a scan in normal mode is usually a waste of time).
    But.... how in the heck do I get his computer to boot into Safe Mode? On a PC, I would hit F8 at the Bios screen. But the Mac Bios is completely different.
    Or will hitting F8 still work?

    EFI is still a 'basic IO system' and while you can't booted into EFI setup screen, you can do Safe Mode. All computers have to bootstrap the system and have basic firmware supported method. UEFI will though have a harder time be adopted - though support for booting from GPT and 2.1TB volumes may force it.
    For AV, I would strongly recommend Microsoft Security Essentials, free and darn good which was updated yesterday.

  • SRM 7.0 - Unable / How to get into DEBUGGING mode in BADI

    Hello SAPions,
    I am unable to get into debugging mode from WebDynpro Portal screen to R/3 BADI in SRM 7.0 .
    I placed a breakpoint in the BADI, and logged into the portal screen.
    However, in SRM5.0, to get into debugging mode from ITS, we place a break point in the BADI, when we browse the ITS link from the IE browser, we will be able to get into debuggin mode.
    Any other way ?
    Regards,
    Ashwin.

    Hello,
    Please check the following:
    1. Application server name, the SAP GUI and the portal should be logged into the same application server.
    2. You should be logged in with the same User in both SAP GUI and the Portal.
    3. External debugging should be enabled for the User in SAP GUI.
    4. Also try checking the check box , IP Matching . This can be done as below:
    Utilities -> Settings ->  ABAP Editor -> Debugging ->  IP Matching.
    Also please check the following in the above link , if you have the same user name here with which you have logged onto Portal and the New Debugger Radio Button is Selected.
    Hope this helps.
    Best Regards,
    Sapna

    Here's one thing you are doing wrong:} catch (TransformerConfigurationException e) {
    } catch (TransformerException e) {
    }With this code, if an exception occurs then you are guaranteed to know nothing about it. At the minimum do this:} catch (TransformerConfigurationException e) {
      e.printStackTrace();
    } catch (TransformerException e) {
      e.printStackTrace();
    }

  • How to go into Landscape mode?

    Hi,
    I recently purchased an Alcatel OneTouch Fire C and was trying to watch videos on itbut i couldn't figure out how to watch videos in landscape mode in it. Can anyone help me with this?

    Hi!
    Try this:
    Launch the Settings app from the home screen. Then, tap "Display". Make sure "Lock orientation" is disabled.
    You should be able to view movies in landscape mode in the Video app or the Browser by rotating your phone.
    I hope that helps you!

  • Can't figure out how to get into "Reader Mode."

    The little book icon just won't appear in the title bar no matter what I do. Tap, long press, double tap, etc. What did I do to cause this and how to get out of it? Moto X, Android 4.4. Thanks.

    Thanks, Guigs2. I still have more or less the same problem whether "Auto rotate screen" is enabled or not: the little book icon appears in the address bar for some pages and not for others. Example: home page of NY Times shows no icon, but go to any news article you like and the icon will appear just fine. Washington Post works the same way.
    I have no addons, BTW.

    Then you are out of luck.
    Take the device to Apple for an Out of Warranty replacement or find a local repair shop.  Without a functioning power button it is impossible to determine if the issue is the battery or something else.

  • How to boot your phone into safe mode

    If you experience any problem with your phone, booting it into safe mode can be a good idea to check if any third party applications might be involved in the problem you’re having.
    If you run your phone in safe mode for a while and you don’t experience any problem, the problem you’re having is most likely related to a third party app that you’ve installed.
    How to boot into safe mode differ from models to model and it can also be different depending on firmware version but this topic will explain to you how to do it.
    NOTE!
    Booting into safe mode may change personal UI customizations such as icons and folders.
    Later Xperia phones running on Android Jelly Bean (Android 4.1 or later)
    Press and hold the on/off key until you get this screen.
    Now tap and hold the Power off option until you see this screen.
    Press OK to reboot into safe mode.
    If you have successfully booted into safe mode you will see the text Safe mode in the bottom left corner.
    You can also boot into safe mode by turning off the phone and wait a few seconds. Now press and hold both the on/off and volume down (-) key. Keep pressing these two keys until the phone has booted completely.
    To exit safe mode you simply power off and power on as normal.
    Xperia phones using touch menu key running on Android GB (2.3.X) or ICS (4.0.X)
    Turn off your phone.  Wait a few seconds and then turn it on again. Now during the boot process start tapping the menu key continuously and keep tapping until the phone has booted completely. Not too fast, not too slow. The beat of Iron man by Black Sabbath is just right.
    To exit safe mode you simply power off and power on as normal.
    Xperia phones using hardware menu key
    Turn off your phone.  Wait a few seconds and then turn in on again. Now during the boot process press and hold the menu key until the phone has booted completely.
    To exit safe mode you simply power off and power on as normal.

  • How can I use Safe Mode to troubleshoot in Windows 8 or Windows 7?

    QuestionHow can I use Safe Mode to troubleshoot in Windows 8 or Windows 7?
    AnswerWindows has a special mode known as Safe Mode. It is not fully functional, but it allows you to make changes to the laptop to hopefully fix normal mode. We're going to attempt to boot into Safe Mode to use it fix the laptop.
    For more information on how to boot into Safe Mode please see the following articles:
    How To: Safe Mode and other Advanced Startup Options in Windows 8
    Creating a System Repair Disc for Windows 8 (useful for entering Safe Mode)
    How To: Start your Windows 7 computer in Safe Mode
    Use Safe Mode to undo recent changes
    When a computer won't start Windows, it's usually due to a recent change. If you installed a new piece of software before your laptop began to have trouble booting, you may want to uninstall it. Similarly, if you recently made a change to any system settings, you may want to change it back. If you have antivirus software, you may want to perform a scan. If you're not sure what to do here, feel free to skip to the next step!
    Use Safe Mode to perform a system restore
    Windows includes a utility called System Restore that can help with many problems. While this won't alter or remove any of your personal files, it will roll back your system settings and files to an earlier date. We'll use this to attempt to fix Windows.
    To learn how to use System Restore, please check the following articles:
    How To: Understanding System Restore, Refresh, Reset, and, Recovery options in Windows 8 + Video
    How To: Perform a system restore in Windows 7
    Use Safe Mode to initiate a clean boot
    As Windows loads, it loads many additional components such as services and startup items. Some of these are not vital. For example, some tools start immediately with Windows, such as antivirus software. From Safe Mode, we can instruct Windows not to load many of these. This will help you determine if one is causing Windows not to load properly. Note that this step is more advanced than the previous steps. If it seems difficult for you, you may consider asking for help from someone who is more comfortable with computers.
    Please view the following article for more information:
    How can I perform a clean startup without my startup items to troubleshoot a problem?
    If Windows loads normally, you'll know one of those startup items or services was causing the problem. If this is the case, you may want to return to the System Configuration Utility and re-enable some items and services to determine which specific one caused the problem.
    Backing up your data
    If you're able to enter Safe Mode, backing up your data should be easy. Connect a USB flash drive or external drive to your computer while in Safe Mode and then copy your important  files to the flash drive or external drive.
    You may also want to consider taking your computer to a professional.

    Would love to know if this is possible. Found forums dating back years asking exactly the same thing, no solutions. And I do not want to change my headset (Sennheiser MM-50), or use the onboard mic (which sounds like you are using your Mac in a wind tunnel once the fans kick in).

  • 10.9.4 Boots Into Safe Mode

    Every other boot, my MacMini4,1 boots into Safe Mode.
    I tried Command+Option+P+R for two chimes but it continues to do this. Most posts are asking how to boot into Safe Mode and I'm looking for what is causing mine.
    What should I try next?

    Searched for "Safe" and this is where it started:
    1/09/2014 6:33:44.000 am kernel[0]: SAFE BOOT DETECTED - only valid OSBundleRequired kexts will be loaded.
    1/09/2014 6:33:44.000 am kernel[0]: calling mpo_policy_init for TMSafetyNet
    1/09/2014 6:33:44.000 am kernel[0]: Security policy loaded: Safety net for Time Machine (TMSafetyNet)
    1/09/2014 6:33:44.000 am kernel[0]: ucode: no updates in safe mode
    Then it lists the items: "can't load..."
    Is there something else I should search for?

  • Is booting into update mode possible?

    Okay...here's the deal.  Installed "enhanced kernel (titan) for power users" from my install list in application manager, as part of trying to get the Mobile Hotspot app to work.  I was advised to do so by some very knowledgeable N900 users on this forum.  Well...long story short(er)...loading the kernel did not make mobile hotspot work, so I decided to uninstall and revert back to the factory kernel.  I did so using the "uninstall" app that came with the titan kernel....the screen went blank about half way through the process,...gave me a message that "kernel couldn't be removed".  Thereafter, upon rebooting the phone, the N900 just sits there and reboots, reboots, reboots now...never completing a reboot before rebooting again.  Sever has informed me that someone might be able to tell me how to reboot into update mode instead of Maemo for flashing....perhaps being able to just flash the kernel instead of the whole OS,...which I'll do if necessary.  Anyone want to take this one on?  Sure appreciate the assistance !  Thanks in advance.

    My 12" powerbook logics card crashed. I have a 17". How do I retrieve my internet bookmarks from the 12" by putting it into Target mode on the 12" and looking into the hard drive on the 12"? Where on the 12" hard drive do I go to search for them?

    If the 12's logic board is trashed, I don't think you can get into FireWire Target Disk Mode. The computer has to start to get to FWTDM. Will it starte and run at all?
    If it won;t start, you will have to go inside and extract the hard drive. Then get this gadget:
    Newer Technology Universal Drive Adapter USB 3.0/2.0 - connects any 2.5", 3.5" or 5.25" drive
    It allows you to connect a bare drive to another computer that has USB. It will act just like an external disk drive. Assuming the 12's drive is not damaged due to the LB failure, you can retrieve files quickly.
