How to "grab" window when it's off screen

Since I often use a second monitor, the screen geometry varies (compared to when the MacBook is running solo).
I cannot use iTunes, since it's upper menu bar is north of the visible desktop. Even when I can see the whole window as a thumbnail-- highlighted in blue in "Expose'" -- I cannot reposition it so that I can use it.

How can I stop Yosemite resizing windows when I turn off my screen?

I have a 2012 mac mini running Yosemite. It's hooked up to an LG TV via the thunderbolt port and an adapter.
When I turn off the TV and the turn it back on again, all of my windows get moved over to the leftmost 2/3rds of the screen (approx). It's super annoying constantly moving windows back to where I left them.
Can someone explain why this is happening and suggest how I can fix it?

How to "Show notifications when display is off"

Hi,
In Mavericks Beta the notifications from Mail, Messages, Facebook etc. were displayed even when the screen was turned off. It lit up the screen for a while showed the notification for few seconds and then the screen was turned off again. I really liked that feature cause I could see whats happening on my iMac even if I wasn't using it.

But the option to enable it is no longer in the Notifications settings, instead there is "Show notifications on lock screen".
So please let me ask, is there some possibility to show notifications on turned off display? Maybe by editing some preference file or something like that?

I too would like to know a way around this problem. In the prior version of iCal, you could enable alarms only when iCal was running. I routinely sync three computers, sometimes hours to days apart. So unless I remember to turn alarms off prior to shutting down the machines, the alarms are not properly updated upon syncing when an idle machine is turned back on.
Hope this makes sense. Either way, it would have been better if Apple had not gotten rid of this feature in the new iCal.

How to disable alarms when iCal is off

I might be missing something here, but I believe there used to be two settings to turn off alarms in 10.4 and 10.5:
1) disable all alarms
2) disable alarms when iCal is off
Did option 2) disappear in 10.6? I am really missing this feature.

PE 9 Slideshow editor window is locked half off screen

In Photoshop Elements 9 I was editing a slideshow in Organizer on a dual monitor setup. In the slideshow editor window, I clicked the full screen option, and the window moved to a position on the right of the screen, half off the screen (see attached pic). I can't use it in that position, nor move the window back, nor resize it.
I've restored all the defaults I can think of, restarted the program, rebooted the computer, but still when I open slideshow editor, the editor window is locked in that unusable position.
How do I move the window, reset the default position, or erase whatever file tells PE9 to place the window there?

Partial solution
I got PE9 working by deactivating the second monitor and then reopening PE9 on one monitor. Then when I edit the slideshow, the edit window opens on the primary monitor, and continues to do after I reactivate the second monitor, so I can do the editing.
The problem now is that the edit window fills the entire screen, and there doesn't appear to be a way to get it back to its original size, ie, I can't shrink the window. Any ideas?

How to resolve "you need to power off" screen looping

I fitted a new hard drive to my MacBook. Have restored from a Time Machine back-up. I have the "you need to power off" screen but every time I power off and power back on I first get the Apple logo screen and then the "you need to power off" screen.
I have read elsewhere it is probably caused by restoring a Snow Leopard backup using a Leopard disc. So I think I need to do the restore again but can't get out of the "you need to power off" loop....

App. windows way, way, way off screen

Recently transferred all my PowerBook Accounts and settings to my new Mac mini via FireWire. Had no problems whatsoever... except that certain application windows (like my Agfa ScanWise scanning software) "appear" right off screen - they're only visible using Expose.
Oh, before the Mac mini, I used the 12" PowerBook (no longer in my possession) with a 23" Cinema HD Display to expand the desktop. Now, it seems the Mac mini thinks it's connected to a really, really wide monitor.
Uninstalled and reinstalled all affected apps, trashed Preferences, et, al... and the problem remains.
I used a variety of posted Applescripts and nothing works.
Can anybody help this desperate bonehead?

I don't think the problem is that your Mac mini thinks it's connected to a larger screen, but rather your applications don't know the computer is now connected to a smaller screen. The process to change the size of the screen and the locations of the windows may vary from one application to the next.
You might try opening your affected application and then changing the resolution of the screen you are using to something bigger or even smaller to make the application recognize the new resolution and then change it back to the one you do want to use. Does this make the window redraw so the application is visible?
If that fails, you might try creating a new user (with the Accounts System Preferences) and then log out and log in as the new user. Are the windows available for the new user? If so, then it really should be a preference file that's telling the application what the location of the window is. We can help you troubleshoot this a little further if that's the case.

How enable USB charging when PC switched off?

I would like to enable USB charging when the computer is switched off (I want to charge a DAC with battery).
The computer is a dual boot ASrock 3D Vison with Asrock App charger installed (in Windows)
I have already disabled S5 in Bios.
However if I shut down from Linux my DAC is not charging.
Some suggestions?

Inside this directory there is "level" with value "on" and autosuspend with value "2"
I don't have any idea how this (or other files) should be changed...if this is the right path...

How to resize window when stage style is undecorated ?

I have one undecorated window and I want to make it resizable by using mouse.
How can I do it ?
If I use decorated window then it allows me to resize it.

Just make a draggable shape and resize the stage depending on the drag action.
Here is a simple stage illustrating that and moving the window too.
Note an old bug already seen in 1.1 at least: when dragging such window, on WinXP, sometime it seems to "jump" to one bound of the screen, then it goes back (in a flicker) to current position. Strange and annoying.

How to activate windows screensaver in PDF full screen mode?

Hey everyone!
We have some PDF based product presentations that we show on plasma screens. Recently we renewed our computes and switched from Vista to Windows 7, as well as Adobe Reader 9.3 to X.
Since this change the Windows screensaver doesn't activate when a PDF document is displayed in full screen mode.
I've already tried to install Adobe Reader 9.3 again, but it seems that this has nothing to do with the Reader version but with Windows 7.
Can someone please confirm this? I want to get sure this is indeed the case with Windows 7.
The more important question is: How can I get the sceensaver running again?

On Windows, this will be fixed in Firefox 30 (the next release, currently in [http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/beta/ beta]). In the mean-time there are apparently [https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=517870#c35 workarounds].
For Mac OS X & Linux however, this is not fixed yet.

Microsoft Word consistently becomes active window when clicking between dual screens and programs

When I am running word between an external monitor and my MBP, Microsoft word always interrupts any clicks between programs and between screens to become the active window. This is especially annoying when I am trying to navigate between MacMail and Chrome, or any other programs.
The problem doesn't exist when I click between programs on the MBP, but only when I select windows between the two screens. Or programs on the external monitor.
Word is up to date, as is my MBP.
Please don't punt me to Microsoft, they're the worst!

There is a workaround for this problem, which was posted by Highestwater on the Microsoft Community thread for this bug and worked for me as well:
Go to
System Preferences > Mission Control >
and UN-check the box labeled "Displays have separate Spaces" (see image below)
The original poster on this thread may already be aware of this workaround, because he/she mentioned that the "separate Spaces" option is checked. But if you can live without the extra Mavericks dual display features (like going full screen in 1 display only, switching spaces independently on each display, and having a menu bar on each display), then uncheck this option and the "stealing focus" bug seems to disappear. For me the bug is so annoying that it's worth it to lose the extra features. Just yesterday I closed a Word document I was working on by mistake because I clicked on a Finder window on my other display and immediately pressed command-w to close it, without realizing that the focus had switched to my word document which closed instead. It was saved, but this sort of stuff interrupted my work enough to be both an annoyance and a time drain.

How to get connect to itunes logo off screen without restoring it

I have an iphone and last night I tried to update it. When I woke up it had a connect to itunes logo on the screen. I tried turning it on and off again, but that didn't work. I would try to restore it but I have never connected my iphone to itunes so it won't recognize it and none of my music or apps or photos are backed up. Is there any way to get the connect to itunes logo off the screen without restoring it so I can just go back to using my phone? Thanks!

You should back up your phone on a regular basis. That way you will avoid headaches like the one now.
Your iPhone is in recovery mode. I belive there is not option but to restore it.
