How to handle an unsupported RAW format (Canon EOS T2i/550D)

I just got the Canon EOS T2i Digital Rebel today. I wasn't expecting Aperture to support its RAW files yet and it doesn't. My plan is to shoot RAW + JPEG until RAW support arrives. I've noticed some strange things happening during import. At first only a few files showed up in the import window. Checking/unchecking the import duplicates box did nothing. Eventually somehow all the photos showed up. I couldn't tell you what I did that made any difference.
The camera writes separate CR2 and JPG files to the card. The first time I imported I set the RAW + JPEG Pairs setting to "Both (JPEG as Master)". For some reason only the CR2 was imported and as expected it showed the unsupported icon. I couldn't see any JPEGs. I did the import again and now all the files are there but the CR2 and JPEGs are not linked in any way. I guess I don't understand how this should work.
Does anyone have any experience with RAW+JPEG shooting?

On a retry, the import seems to be working correctly with RAW + JPEG pairs. The first time I tried this I was using an SD card formatted and used (with images on it) from a Canon EOS T1i. Maybe that was confusing Aperture.
I formatted the card with the T2i, reshot some images and re-imported with the setting of Both (JPEG as Master). The imported images have the "J" badge which means RAW + JPEG pairs with JPEG as master. If there was an "R" badge it means the RAW file is the master. When you right click the images there's a new menu entry for "Set RAW as master". Selecting that menu item shows the RAW file with the unsupported image icon.
Once Apple delivers RAW support for the T2i I can just select the "Set RAW as master" menu item to start using the RAW file.

How do I import RAW images from my Canon EOS T2i camera into Aperture and have them show up as RAW images and not jpeg images?

See the list of supported raw formats:
    http://www.apple.com/aperture/specs/raw.html
The footnote ** for the cameras  EOS Rebel T2i EF-S / 550D / Kiss X4**  says, that the raw format is only supported with Aperture 3. So you will have to upgrade to Aperture 3, to be able to import the raw from from your camera.

  • How open raw from canon eos 70D in elements 11

I cannot open raw from canon eos 70D in photoshop elements 11. Help me please.

Your PSE is too old—the camera was released after a newer version of software was available and Adobe only adds new camera support to the newest version of software.
Specifically, the 7D Mark II needs ACR 8.7 and PSE12 can only be updated to ACR 8.5.
    Your choices are to:
Use the DNG Converter 8.7 or newer to create DNGs from the CR2s and those DNGs will open in the older version of ACR that comes with PSE12, OR
Buy the newer version of Element 13 that can be updated to a new enough Adobe Camera Raw plugin.
The DNG Converter is available from the Adobe Updates page:
    http://www.adobe.com/downloads/updates
And the newer version of Elements is available from the Adobe Products page:
    http://www.adobe.com/products/catalog/software.html
Another option would be to use Lightroom 5.7 or newer and use Edit in Photoshop Elements from LR once most of your raw adjustments are done, for any final touches in Elements.
For any of these choices you’d want to download the latest updates and run the software in trial mode to make sure your computer is compatible before paying anything.
BTW, I have the 7D Mark II and like it very much, having upgraded from an older Digital Rebel, but I’m not that thrilled with the in-camera JPG processing so always use Adobe products for raw development.

  • How do you import photos from a Canon EOS 60d into Lightroom without distortion of photos?

Is there a plug in needed or how does one get the photos from Canon EOS camera into Lightroom?  My come through looking distorted and noisy.

    Ok, full story...
I have a Canon EOS 60D and was editing in DPP software that came with the camera.
I wanted more editing options so I bought Lightroom.
All of a sudden photos that look good at home were being sent to printer and I was being told they couldn't print them at all. If I take the exact same photo, import it into the DPP software and edit it to look good on my computer and send it to the same printer they print it with no issues.
I was selling on Deposit Photos some, now they won't even accept my photos the quality is so bad. But again, same photo edited in DPP they accept again.
THere are two issues I am having, the one going to the printer or deposit photos is they leave my computer looking bright and good to me and get to the other site so dark you can't see the photo at all.
The biggest issue I have been noticing is if I shoot with 200, 320 or 400 ISO, they look very fuzzy and I thought pixelated at first.  After reading forums with other Canon users having the same issue, people are saying it isn't true pixelation.  That the real problem is Lightroom not being able to intrepret the data so they look like there is a lot of noise and I have a bad picture.
Before reading forums, I had also emailed Canon to see if there was an issue with my camera.  This was Canon's reply.... If you are recording RAW image files, are you using the Canon software to convert them to jpg or a third party program?  Sometimes programs like Lightroom and Photoshop do not interpret the files correctly and the result could be noise or a colorshift.  Please make sure that you are using the latest version of the RAW plugin for which ever software application you are using, or try using the Digital Photo Professional software included on the EOS Solution disk.
I use Lightroom 4 and it has been updated regularly to the latest updates as they come out.
I shoot in RAW only and never shoot above 400 ISO, usually 160-320 range.
I have taken the same photos at 400 ISO and opened them in the DPP software and there is no noise at all, nice and clear.  I am only having this issue when I put them into Lightroom.
I would really prefer to edit in LIghtroom as you have a lot more creative options there but there has to be something I need to do that they work in Lightroom as they do in DPP.  I have also used NERO in the past with no issues.  The printer person I send to is accepting them in Photoshop.
Do I need to purchase some sort of plugin to have them work in Lightroom? Distortion was a bad choice of word, more fuzzy noise look then true distortion, sorry about that confusion.
    Thanks
    Ann

  • Unsupported image format Canon G2 CRW

I downloaded the trial to see if Aperture is something I would like to use. I have an old Canon PowerShot G2 and I shoot in RAW. The file type is CRW. After making a new project I select Import and import the CRW files into the Aperture library but it will only show the thumbnail on the bottom frame but will display a red box with Unsupported Image Format where the picture should be for me to edit.
Is the Canon RAW format not supported by Aperture? If it is how do I go about using CRW files in Aperture?

It does and I tried that but that just puts to many steps into my workflow. With this it becomes
Open Bridge, find the photo open in Ps to use the Raw importer, click save as and save as a DNG. Then open up Aperture and import there and edit. At that point of using the Raw importer I might as well do the work there and in Ps.
Maybe Apple will see it that they should support the older cameras, who knows. At least with Adobe they support back to the PowerShot G1.

  • Airdropis converting raw files to jpegs when I transfer them to my iMac at home. how do i keep the raw format across the drop?

As Above the raw files convert to jpegs and I need to keep the raw format any ideas anyone?

Converting to DNG could happen if you were dragging and dropping images from a Finder/Explorer folder into the LR thumbnails grid, which would initiate an Import operation, where you also have Copy as DNG set as your Import method.  I would expect you’d see the Import panel open every time you did this, so it’d be obvious what was occurring.  Dragging and dropping new images into LR this way is my standard method of Import.
One might guess conversion to DNG could occur if you drag and drop from within LR to a folder outside of LR in Finder/Explorer so an Export operation is initiated; however, on Windows, at least, this does not occur.  Sometime does occur, though, because when I tried this to make sure it didn’t work, I had LR on top, then an Explorer folder beside it and my Outlook e-mail program behind the folder.  When I dragged-and-dropped the thumbnail into Explorer, I got a circle-slash cursor indicating it was a prohibited operation, but then when I switched over to Outlook to write this reply, the cursor was jumping from where it was at the top of the reply to down further in the reply area, and I had to close LR to get this to stop, so LR or the OS is doing something when dragging and dropping a LR thumbnail to outside of LR.  It’s possible that on a Mac different things occur.
In any case, when you move things in LR, you should be dragging and dropping thumbnails in LR to another folder in the LR folder structure, all within LR, and by default this generates a warning message box that says things cannot be undone if you do this, although there is a Don’t Show This Again checkbox.  You might want to click the Reset all Warning Dialogs button in LR Preferences, so you’ll see any message boxes like this again.

  • Can't Find Or Acces My RAW Files ( Canon EOS 350D

I'm new to SLR Cameras.. I have a Canon EOS 350D So y decided to shoot in RAW. But i have problems and question. If you just go to the camera directory can you see the RAW images? And i cannot find my RAW files that i shot..in my camera i can see them but in Bridge CS3 and PS CS3 nothing...i've already downloaded the update Camera RAW 4. But Nothing So how to work with RAW.. Pls Help me..because i need to shoot again tommorrow so i'm short on time..
    Raizen Albertsz,

I found some one with almost the same problem so i am going to change his words a little bit so that you can understand my problem.
I'd taken a few shots here and there this week in RAW + Large format, but wasn't able to find the RAW files. OK, I thought perhaps I was mistaken and didn't have the settings correct & didn't really take any RAW shots.
So I reformatted the 4GB Scandisk CF card (via the camera) and took more shots, all in RAW + Large. Going thru the camera display with Info turned on, I can verify that each one was indeed on RAW + Large. But I still can't find them.
I'm using a cable to connect my EOS Rebel XT (EOS 350D) to transfer the files to a selected folder on my pc. Opening that folder in Windows (I have Win XP)there are only the the JPGs in it. If i open Adobe Bridge CS3 or PS CS3 i would find only the JPGs. Where are my RAW .CR2 files going? I was under the impression they would be in the same folder as the JPG images, with same file number. So that i can see like a thumbnail or something.
I've downloaded the Camera RAW 4.4.1. Upgrade. I did what is written
To install with Adobe Creative Suite 3 or Photoshop CS3:
    1. Exit Photoshop CS3.
    2. Open My Computer.
    3. Double-click Local Disk (C:).
    4. Navigate to: (Please read directory carefully)
    Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Plug-Ins\CS3\File Formats
    5. Move the existing Camera Raw.8bi plug-in to another location (for example, a new folder on your desktop). Ensure you keep this version in case you need to revert back.
    6. Copy the Camera Raw plug-in, Camera Raw.8bi, from the download into the same folder as in step 4.
    7. Launch Photoshop CS3 or Adobe Bridge.
Note: If generic camera thumbnails appear in Adobe Bridge, follow these steps:
    1. Check to make sure the plug-in was installed in the correct directory in step 4 above.
    2. Start Bridge.
    3. Choose Tools > Cache > Purge Central Cache.
but still nothing. So what else could i do?
    Raizen Albertsz,

  • Photoshop Elements cannot open Camera RAW from Canon EOS 7D Mark ii

I just bought Canon EOS 7D mark ii camera.  I have Photoshop Elements 12.  The program is unable to open RAW images. The message is "the file appears to be from a camera model which is not supported by installed version of camera Raw".
I downloaded 8.7.1 plugin but that is also not able to open the image.

You need Adobe camera raw version 8.7 Unfortunately your software pre-dates the camera. ACR 8.7 is only compatible with PSE13. But it is possible to download and install the free DNG converter to convert your raw files to the Adobe universal Raw format and the DNG files will open in PSE12 (keep your CR2's as backups and for use in the camera manufactures software)
Windows download (.exe file) click here DNG Converter 8.7.1

  • IPhoto '08 won't import RAWs from Canon EOS 450D

I did install the "Digital Camera RAW Compatibility Update 2.1", but even so, I am not able to import RAW images from my Canon EOS 450D, only jpgs. The error message I get is:
"The following files could not be imported (they may be an unrecognized file type or the files may not contain valid data)."
How do I solve this? The camera is brand new. Is a firmware reflash in order? How?
    Anyone else experience this?

Try using Image Capture to upload the files to the desktop and then import from there.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.≤br>
Note: There now an Automator backup application for iPhoto 5 that will work with Tiger or Leopard.

  • PSE 10 RAW-files Canon EOS 700D.

I have PSE 10 and I can't open raw-files from my Canon EOS 700D. How do I do?

    You have three options:
    1. Upgrade PSE to a later version that supports your camera.
    2. Use the canon software to convert the photos and just use PSE for additional editing.
    3. Download the free adobe DNG converter to convert your .cr2 files to something your version of the raw converter can understand.

  • RAW of Canon EOS 400D: No Preview before Importing, no import in projects..

    Hi all
After updating to 1.5.1. and RAW Support 1.0.1, I experience following behavior: After connecting my Canon EOS 400D, there is no preview of the RAW-Pictures. JPEG-Pictures work fine. Then, when I import, the RAW-Pictures get imported not on the project I pointed it to (and the JPEGs are imported as planned), but still are imported and viewable perfectly afterwards in the "year" folder.
Does anybody have the same issue and by accident know how to sort this out? Thanks in advance!

It sounds as though the RAW update did not work.
    To check, go to
    System/Library/Frameworks/ApplicationServices.framewor
    k/Versions/A/Frameworks/ImageIO.framework/Versions/A/R
    esources
Open Raw.plist in a text editor. Scroll down and you
should see Canon 400D. If not, you need to reapply
    the update.
I had real problems with the original universal, so I
suggest you use the specific PPC or Intel version for
    your machine.
    G.
Thank you for the hints. The camera is listed in the plst file, and I noticed something else: The RAW-Pictures get imported in a "new project" which is automatically created. JPEGs are imported in the project I selected. So basically it is not really a big problem, since the import works and the pictures are displayed correctly after importing them, but still I find the behaviour somehow strange... I will play around some more and see if I can sort it out. By the way, I only found the universal version for my MBP - there is no "intel"-specific.
