How to handle irregular shaped newspaper clippings?

Hi,
I am creating a book to re-construct (and adding and editing) an old scrapbook which contains irregularly spahed newspaperclipping. I have pages on which I would like to place just images clippings (any format .tiff, .jpeg, etc).
I have discovered that Aperture apparently does not handle transparent backgrounds and am looking for some suggestions on how to handle this. There have been a few posts in the forums about creating a image in Photoshop then using this as a background. This might work in some of the black themes like Stock Book Black (are the pages true black?). If I want to use one of the other themes like Journal or Photo Essay which allows for maps is there any way to match the page color surrounding the clippings to make it flow with the rest of the book? Are the RGB, CMYK, or HSB values that are published for these themes that I could mimic in a photo editor? Whould this work?

Irregularly shaped text boxes; How?

I want to insert text on an image, using a text box is the ideal way to ensure the text wraps nicely, etc. However I do not want the text to be in a standard rectangular or square text box but one of my own irregular shape.
Anybody know how to do this, and where I could get some pointers?

Depends on which version of Photoshop you're using.
Text inside a Photoshop vector path was introduced with PS CS2, IIRC.
I haven't done this much, so I did some experimenting, and I dove into the Help Files for PS CS2.
First of all, if the Help Files have a section on this, I couldn't find it. That's not good, especially for new users who might not know where else to look for advanced instruction online.
But, my experimentation showed me that you can make an irregularly shaped paragraph text box with the Custom Shape tools. You may then manually edit the anchor points to alter the shape's path to whatever you desire. Then, with your Type Tool selected, hover on the inside of the shape you created and you'll see the "I-Bar" Text cursor change, so that it looks like it's flanked by dotted parentheses characters (We'll call that the "Text-In-A-Shape" ["TIAS"]cursor). This cursor tells you that you can click to initiate text inside of the shape, and it will be bounded to stay inside of that shape, just as it would be if you simply dragged out a rectangular paragraph text box.
Further, something I found lacking was that you can NOT simply use the Pen Tool to create your irregular shape. If you do that, you won't be able to make the "TIAS" cursor appear. You
must
ucreate the shape starting with the Custom Shapes tools.
If this limitation has been lifted in PS CS 3, I wouldn't know. If that's the version you have, you'll have to discover that on your own.
Once you've entered your text in this shape, you may adjust the Character and Paragraph parameters just like you would with any other text.

Irregular shaped Canvas/UIComponent

How can I create irregular shaped canvas/UIComponent? By irregular shaped, I mean teris like shapes. Is there a proper way of doing it?
This will be a draggable component. Once the dragged component is overlapped on another component, user should be able to what is in the background.

Can this be made dynamic? The backend is returning a bunch of images that are different in shape. Actually this is what happening: Backend is generating a flat image out of bunch of small images. We know the contour and the points that creates the contour.
And we are using Flex 3.

Irregular shaped nav buttons

Is it possible to create irregular shaped navigation buttons, such as a cloud, in Muse. I don't want to be limited to a box shape, if possible. If possible, how is it done?

There are a couple of options with Photoshop files that will enable you to restrict the hit area of the button to a horseshoe/irregular shape.
1) If the shape is an actual Photoshop Shape layer with the horseshoe defined via a vector mask: when you import that layer of the file into Catalyst, choose to preserve rather than flatten it. By default in the basic Photoshop import dialog, Shape Layers are set to be flattened. Instead, click the Advanced button in that dialog, highlight the horseshoe layer and choose the "Editable paths and layer styles" option. Then click import.
What happens is: Catalyst imports the bitmap and generates a mask in place of the original PS Vector Mask (you can see this if you look for <s:mask> in Code view). Only the masked area becomes clickable if you convert this layer into a button.
2) If the horseshoe is simply an image layer in Photoshop – add a Vector mask to that layer which will in turn define the shape of the button in Catalyst. Again import the layer and choose to preserve "Editable paths and layer styles."
On a related note, in Beta 1 we automatically flatten Photoshop Shape layers for performance reasons. In the future we should be able to clip the layer's content to the boundaries of the mask while still including the mask for purposes such as this one.

Irregularly Shaped Windows

Many applications use windows that are not perfect rectangles. For example, Windows Media Player has several "skins" that can make it circular, square, or whatever, some popups look like oval speech bubbles, etc. How can I create an irregularly shaped window in Java? Also, how can I create any window with a semi-transparent portion (like the shadows on menus and tooltips)?

Oh God, the transparent window question again!
There's no real neat way of doing it in Java. However, you can knock something up that comes close as follows:
1) grab a picture of the desktop background (using java.awt.Robot)
2) paint the portion corresponding to the location of your window into the background of your window
3) update this when the window moves.
Problems emerge when the desktop changes - you need to refresh your "desktop image".
Various solutions have been discussed on this thread and I believe that Noah came up with a solution that'll work in most cases.

Its occurs because you're trying to access a objects with null reference. Or you forgot to create an instance or an error occurs during the instance creation. So You should put all your "Procedures and business logic" inside a Try/catch block. as follow.

How to handle null values in RTF templates

Hi - I have two groups in a report for different SQL and two formulas for each group, CF_ELE_CNT and CF_ELE_CNT1. In the template I use the below code to print or not print a section.
<?if:number(CF_ELE_CNT +CF_ELE_CNT1) >0?>
The problem is when there is no data in the second group its not creating the XML tag for CF_ELE_CNT1, though CF_ELE_CNT has 13, it still does not print that partucular section. If I remove CF_ELE_CNT1 from the condition it works fine. I was wondering how to handle this.

Hey Rav,
You can add a check to identify it the element/tag is present or not
<?if:(CF_ELE_CNT1)?> will give true, if the element is present otherwise falsesince you are adding the two elements, you have to add a or condition.
<?if:(CF_ELE_CNT and number(CF_ELE_CNT) >0 ) or ( CF_ELE_CNT1 and CF_ELE_CNT1 >0)?>

Thoughts on how LabVIEW handles checkout of file from SCC when file already open

When you already have a file/project open in LabVIEW and it is set to read only because you haven't checked it out, you can go into SCC and do a checkout then save the file immediately. The issue with this is, if your local copy doesn't match the copy in SCC, you will probably be overwriting changes. Sometimes this is convenient because if you have ever edited a MS Word file and then gone to save and it won't let you because it was opened as read-only...then that sucks because you either lose your work, or have to do a copy of the entire word file->close the program->re-open as writable, then paste. This can be avoided with the "LabVIEW way", but the "MS Word" way seems much safer because it forces you to conscioiusly make the file writable (by either checking it out or manually write clicking and changing to writable) BEFORE opening it. I just wanted people's opinions on how LabVIEW handles this, and if there would be a better way.

How to handle password changes if we implement singlesignon between BO& BI7

As we know ,we can implement single signon between BO and SAP BI 7, by importing roles and users through CMC and by selecting the option "Use Single signon during report refresh time".
My doubt here is, When we import roles from SAP and Auto import the users, is it only the SAP usernames that are stored in BO repository or both username and password. If second case holds true then how to handle/manage password change for a user who is already imported in BO sometime back?
Would the password changes be reflected automatically in BO?
Please guide me if you think that I'm thinking in a wrong direction.

password changes are reflected automatically in BO. BO just forwards the data to the SAP side and it does the real authentification.

PS: Keep in mind that you cannot change the SAP password on the BO login screen if your SAP password has expired. You have to do this with the SAP client (SAP GUI)

How to handle rpc/encoded style messages using BizTalk?

I am integrating with a lot of services and one of our customers has a service with rpc/encoded style
I could consume and generate schema from their wsdl file via BizTalk consume WCF wizard.
Once I am trying to call the service with request message that generated from the schema, it is giving an error that can not desterilize the first element of the message.
No Deserializer found to deserialize a 'FieldName' using encoding style 'null'
I compared the stub xml request message from SaopUI and I noticed that the xml expecting the data type with the element like this .

In SoapUi, if I remove a datatype from the message, I will get same error from the BizTalk request.
I read some articles that rpc/encoded style are not supported but I am not sure and these articles are not clear.
I also read that it was supported with Soap adapter but now it is deprecated.

Hi,
how to handle the OK button of the parameters prompt of a crystal report in vba.NET?
I want to use the parameter prompt from the crystal report itself and I want to know when the report is ready. I need to export programatically by sending email to a list of employees after the parameters has been set. The emails I send depends on the results of the report.
Im using a CrystalReportViewer control in VS2010 and Crystal Report for VS2010 v13.0.1.220.

Right. But the parameter screen is driven by the viewer. Unless you create your own parameter screen and pass the parameters to the report via code.
Another thing I am not sure about:
"Then by code I want to read all the employees id from the report and send email to them with specified pages of the report. (1 page per employee)"
How do you plan on reading the employee ID from the report? I am not aware of any API that will read a value in a report so that you can then decide what page to send to whom.
I think you're approaching this kinda backwards. A question to ask is; can you do what you are trying to do in code in the CR designer? If not, using APIs will not work either. I suspect your approach should be a report that uses an employee filter. Run the report for employee x, get the report populated with the data for that employee and email it. Repeat for employee x1, employee x2, etc.

Skype is useless for this.
They will claim that you the user are responsible, and that they don't need to do anyhing.
So....
Do not allow Skype to autorefill your account when it runs low on balance, and do not store a creditcard, or other payment info with them.
Each user is liable for whatever the hackers can steal.
As this is from recent personal experience, I recommend you to never keep payment information on file with Skype.
