How to have a separate keyswitches track in garageband?

Using Chris Hein Bass I have created track 1 for music and track 2 for keyswitches. each track records fine but the keyswitches do not effect the playback. How to diagnose this issue?

How do you export separate audio tracks for Pro Tools?

I need to give separate audio tracks to my sound mixer but am confused on how to do so in FCP X.
So far I've:
Set the dialogue roles and stems for each character
Then I went into Master File>Settings
Selected:
"Format: Audio Only"
"Audio File Format: Wav File"
"Roles as: Audio only as separate files"
"Dialogue"
Sara
"Stereo"
And when I export and listen back to the wav file, there is either no audio or I hear select dialogue.
The only thing I can think of that I am doing wrong, is that each characters dialogue is not on the same track like the picture below. The tracks highlighted is of one character's dialogue that I am trying to export onto one linear track to export into Pro Tools.
Can tracks be assigned in FCP X? Or is there a crucial step that I am forgetting tthat explains why the audio for each character is not being exported.

If you're dumping audio for ProTools, you should be able to export XML for use in PT. Haven't done it myself, but the option's been there for a while now. You should be able to find instructions easily.
If you want to stick with making Roles work, I suggest making sure the roles are assigned properly to each clip. Kind of a super pain in the neck, to go one by one, but ... that's the way. There are key commands for the three default roles, but if you've created custom ones then it's more time consuming. Is that 'Sara' one a custom Role that you've created?
My only thought is you have compound audio clips there. Maybe go in and set the roles on the individual files inside the compound clips. Dunno...
The visual organization shouldn't matter (one track above another). That's the X way.
((In your picture, you say you have some files selected. When I select, I get a yellow border; yours are light green and dark green. What is that?))

How to import 2 separate audio tracks and keep them separate?

I need advice about importing two separate simultaneous audio tracks and keeping them separate. I am importing footage from my Sony PDX-10 DV Cam.
In the field I had wireless microphones on two people, a man and woman. I interviewed them separately. The man was on channel 1 and the woman was on channel 2.
While shooting the man, for example, I could also hear the open mic of the woman who was maybe a block away talking to some friends. But her distracting sound was on CH 2 and in playback on the camera, if I dial down the volume of CH 2, I no longer hear the woman and I have a clean audio track, Ch 1, of the man who is being filmed.
I'm trying to import the interviews into iMovies with only the relevant track turned up and the distracting track turned down. When I listen to the audio from the camera on my headsets, I can get clean sound of just the person who is on camera. But the FIREWIRE seems to grab both tracks, even though in playback i'm listening only to the clean track.
Does anyone know how I can send just one audio track to IMovie? Any way to prevent the Firewire from importing both Ch 1 and Ch 2 at the same time?
I only want the sound that's relevant to the person who is on camera. And I know that in the camera, it's possible to listen to just the track from one channel. I'm hearing just one track through the headsets, because I can sucessfully dial down the other track. That's the way I want to import the footage to iMovie. But the FIrewire seems to grab all the sound it can find and carry over both CH 1 and CH 2, which means I'm left with a jumble of sound that is not useful.
And finally, if the firewire needs to grab both tracks, is there a way to assign them to two separate tracks in iMovie, so I can then simply turn one of the tracks off?

iM handles the two stereo-channels as "one track", and offers 3 tracks of stereo.. (the one inside the video, 2 additional tracks...)
I would... :
* export clip(s) share/Quicktime/Expert Settings/aiff..
* in a designated audio processor (Garageband, Audacity, ...) seperate the two channels, creating two "new" ones, stereo, where one channel is located in the stereo middle..
* import these two "stereo" files into iM, into Track2 and Track 3 ...
.. boom!done

How to Have a separate Users Folder on a separate partition

I've successfully installed Mac OS X 10.5 on the 20g partition of my 200gb HD (the other "blank" partition is 180gb). Great, so installation went smoothly.
The 20gb partition is named "sys".
The 180gb partition is named "root".
My dilemma, however, is that I want to have my folder (/users/username) on the 180gb parition (root) and keep ALL of apple's core system software and even all apple applications on the "sys" partition (where it is already installed).
Without the use of aliases, how can I have my user folder entirely on the "root" partition and all other mac software on the "sys" partition?

The last two messages in the thread seem to be where the meat is. According to this you edit the fstab using vifs and add a mountpoint for /Users.
The thread suggests that you can put a random UUID, I'm not sure if I'd try that. I found the UUID for the partition using disk utility, Ctrl-Click the partition and open up the Information menu. The UUID is in the list.
Also you need to copy over the users from the existing /Users directory structure. The following thread discusses using rsync (the preferred method).

The thread also gives more information about the problem your trying to solve. I don't think it gets the fstab entries right for Max OS X. But you can try both methods and see which works best.

a bit, it appears as though I'll have to directly change the /etc/fstab file and insert references to the disk partitions without the use of labels.
Seeing as I want to solve this partition /users folder problem as well as further my knowledge of unix commands, anyone know any good references for deciphering what all the unix commands mean and what the acronyms stand for so I can understand, as well as apply, the commands? "man" is the only thing that comes to mind, and that is actually pretty extensive so I'll stick with that.

I'm aware line 1 = "sys" and line 2 = "root", but how and where do I apply the "/dev/disk0s2" versus "/" or "/dev/disk0s3" or "/Volumes/root"?
I think I'm going to want to mount the physical partition of /dev/disk0s3 to "/users/username" if that's possible.
I tried changing the home dir to
/volumes/root
/dev/disk0s3
and even
/volumes/root/users/username
but it still doesn't recognize anything other than the /users/username folder on "sys" as "home folder".
Also, I can access /etc/fstab.hd using cd and ls -al commands but I forget how to open and edit the file.

Jeez, with all the long convoluted forum postings on people trying to accomplish the same objective as I'm doing, you'd think apple would make this easier to do; loading your home folder on a seperate partition isn't "that" advanced of a preference! lol.

How do I audition separate audio tracks in the source monitor?

I don't see anything about this in the Help doc.
I want to listen to all four tracks independently from a P2 card, but when I load a clip into the Source Monitor, it sounds like I'm only hearing one track, or maybe I'm hearing all four. I honestly don't know what I'm listening to.

You're listening to just one; Premiere Pro is screwed up in this regard. Monitoring audio in the Source Monitor is limited to one track at a time, be it multi-mono or stereo.
Switch to the Audio Waveform view, and then click the Track selector; it's defaulting to Track 1.
Unfortunately, this only stays active for the current clip. When you're done screaming and swearing, please file a feature request for smarter audio monitoring: Adobe Feature Request/Bug Report Form

How to speed up a mp3 track

Howdy,
Is it possible (and how) to speed up just single track in Garageband?
I have a clip of mp3 as a track, but it is a bit too slow for the rest of the song, which are all midi tracks at the moment. I would like to change the tempo (squeeze) the mp3 clip, but it seems that Garageband does not have the tools to do this. All advice welcome.

I'd report the problem to the iTunes Store.
Log in to the Store. Click on "Account" in your Quick Links. When you're in your Account information screen, go down to Purchase History and click "See all".
Find the items that are not playing properly. If you can't see "Report a Problem" next to the entries, click the "Report a problem" button. Now click the "Report a Problem" links next to the items.
(Not entirely sure what happens after you click that link, but fingers crossed it should be relatively straightforward.)

How to export multiple separate tracks as one song from Logic to iTunes?

I know how to export the separate tracks that i have recorded, but i want to be able to save all of the tracks into one song, in other words, i want to be able to take my recording from logic 8 and export the entire thing, not just separate tracks, into a file that iTunes can read. Any help/suggestions?

Select "Bounce" (upper right part of Logic arrange window) and make sure MP3 is check under "Destination". This will cause all tracks to be written to a single MP3 stereo file. However, if you have any tracks muted they will not be included in the bounce. Also, make sure no track is "Solo" else you will only get THAT track.
I am assuming that you have mixed all the tracks and done any "mastering".
Once the MP3 file is generated just drag it into iTunes, right click on the song, and then select Get Info and the "Info" tab to assign Artist/Album/etc.

If you go to Settings > iTunes & AppStore , you can sign out from your account, and sign in with the one you've used to purchase apps.This will not remove any apps you already have on it.
Then you can go to AppStore and download apps you've purchased (either via "Purchased" button in "Updates", or simply search for them and download them.
That way you can have multiple accounts' apps on your iPad. When updating, you will be prompted for the credentials for account you've purchased given App with.

Actually you can have separate apple ID's for icloud and facetime but use the family one for purchases so you can share your apps, music..
Each owner opens up a Apple ID for only their device(s).. Log into icloud using new apple ID on each device for each person. Hit facetime in settings, and input your new apple id as facetime ID.. Done..
Now go to settings > store and make sure your family account is inputed there on all the devices so you can share your purcahsed music, apps, videos, etc....
I am sharing purcahses with my entire family but we all have separate icloud, facetime, apple ID etc.. Its imperative you have split Apple ID's for icloud otherwise all your phonebooks will mix and match.....
Also as far as iphone goes.. Iphone can be set up to use apple ID to call or phonenumber (by default) So if you facetime a number it will ring only on that phone, if you facetime an apple ID that is on the iphone it will ring on all devices associated with that apple ID

I tried Notpod but can't get it to work. Part of the problem, I suspect, is that I can't create a folder on my player (a SanDisk Clip+). I also can't do this in Windows Explorer. Whilst I can see the Clip+ in Explorer, the option to create a new folder isn't there.
The error mesag I get in Notpod is:
"Unhandled exception has occurred in your application. If you click Continue, the application will ignore this error and attempt to continue. If you click Quit the application will close immediately.
InvalidArgument=Value of '0' is not valid for 'SelctedIndex'. Parameter name: SelectedIndex"
Then, when I plug the Clip+ into a USB port, iTunes thinks it is my iPad - which is because, I guess, Notpod hasn't worked.
I can drag and drop files from the Music folder where my iTunes tracks are stored onto the Clip+ and they get converted but I'd rather synchronise a Playlist from iTunes if I can.

Why, if it told you you have insufficient space on your computer, would it suggest making more space available on your phone?
At a guess, you have insufficient space on your phone. Installing software will typically require more space than the final size of the software, perhaps even twice or three times as much, for the installation process. You can easily dump some videos or music temporarily, and then synch them back in afterwards.
