How to have iCal open at startup?

How can I have iCal open on startup?....thereby showing the
calendar month and today's date highlighted?

Go to System Preferences/Accounts/Login Items, click +, and browse to Applications/iCal. You will probably want to select hide.

  • How to have url open in new tab?

    when entering a url in the navigation toolbar how can I have it open the url in a new tab?

    Hi, thanks for the reply but i can never remember all these special keyboard shortcuts. There are thousands of them out there, all i would like it to hit the standard " command T " and have the tab open in the same URL I will try to get used to it and see if it sticks but due to restrictions like this in firefox i mostly use safari these days. So since i only use firefox from time to time i will probably forget the shortcut. I have heard there is a way of changing the firefox program so that it does this, i tried changing one of the settings in the about:config settings but it did nothing so i changed the values back again.
    I'm sure there is a way

  • How to have iCal Server share one or more calendars?

    Hello everybody.
    I'm really new to iCal Server, and I'd like to be able to create and share one or more calendars for a couple of users. I'm running Mac Mini with OSX SL Server 10.6.5 and have iMacs with the same OS.
    Any how-to or such, to read and step-by-step configure the stuff?
    I'm already looking at the Apple PDF (from Resources) but I'm stuck where it tells me to create the SRV record: I don't know which fields to fill in with the infos provided.
    Any help will be much appreciated!
    Thanks,
    F.

    Yes, it is Flavio.
    There are other threads that claim you can disregard the manual in this respect. I tried disregarding it. It'll seem to work. Then within days users will complain of intermittent (1) "calendar not found", (2) "lack of permissions", and (3) "conflicts with client-side versus server-side" errors.
    Creating the SRV is essential in this, because it's registering the iCal service with DNS, and DNS is telling the client how to involve the server in the service. To be technically accurate, the server does have a default response when the SRV doesn't exist, so, yes, it will work at times..., but it's hard to explain this to your users when they're asking you about clicking through error dialogs every five minutes. "What do I do here? Should I be worried about this?" You'll be pulling your hair out. I was. Once I had the SRV up, though, the errors have entirely disappeared.
    In addition to the things in my last post, having Push Notifications working is also wonderful. Follow the steps in the manual, but basically it involves turning Push on before starting up iCal.
    Lastly, there's the question of moving users' old calendars (which are client-based) over to the iCal server (which is server-based): You can't just import-then-export, or you'll find other, nagging errors (basically of type "3", above). As far as I've been able to tell, if the user's calendar contains events where they're not the organizer (and it will), you'll get errors because the user has now assumed an event they don't own. The errors you'll get are basically the server asking, "Who owns this thing? I don't get it."
    Sadly, the only way around this is I've found is for the end-user to context-click on each old event and move it to the new calendar. When the calendar options there are ghosted, they'll know they have an event they don't own.
    But once you get past this point, it works beautifully. Users get really excited, because they now see the wonderful opportunities they now have. And that makes you feel it was worth it (especially when you think of how much they'd be spending on Exchange).

  • How to have PDF open in Internet Explorer 7 (Adobe reader version XI)

    Hello,
    we would like to know how to open PDF in internet browser. Our browser version is IE7, Adobe Reader version is XI.
    Thanks,
    Jason

    XI Pro contains all of the capabilities of Reader and a lot more. If you can't see the PDF, you may have the view in browser unchecked in Acrobat, or more likely your Acrobat is not updated to be compatible with the version of IE you are using (You did not mention). There may also be an issue with the OS you are running that could vary between computers (also not mentioned). First thing to do is to go to Help>Updates and be sure you are running 11.0.09. Then check the preferences (check the Internet tab).

  • Safari now opens pdf in adobe after updating adobe. How to have preview open it as default again?

    I just updated to the latest version of adobe, and now safari opens all .pdf files with adobe.  I would like to make it open .pdf with preview or have the option to open with preview (the menu appears when you move the arrow down to the bottom of the page) like it used to. Thanks.

    There is (was) a setting in Adobe Preferences - Internet  about displaying in web browsers using...
    failing that, remove anything with pdf in the name found in
    /Library/Internet Plug-Ins/
    or if none there
    ~/Library/Internet Plug-Ins/
    where ~ is your Home folder
    Quit any browsers first

  • I want twitter and facebook back on the top slid menu. I don't like how I have to open apps now to post in the IOS 7

    I just downloaded the new IOS 7 update, and noticed that in the top slid down menu. I lost my twitter and facebook status inputs. Where you could write status with out opening the apps. I would love this back !!

    Tell Apple.
    No one in these user to user technical support forums can make it magically happen.
    Although if there's a setting to change it, that would be covered in the User's Guide.

  • How to have jpegs open in ACR by default?

    Hello
    I'm using CS5 on a Mac and the latest Adobe Camera Raw.  JPEGS used to open in Camera Raw by default.  Suddenly they don't and I would love to restore that.  Any ideas please!  Thanks!

    Hi,
    You should be able to set that in either bridge, photoshop or the camera raw dialog under camera raw preferences
    at the bottom of the dialog under Jpeg and Tiff Handling.

  • Open at Startup

    Why is my .xls file that I have to "open at startup" in the Dock opening in TextEdit? Why won't it open in Excel?

    I don't know. Since "open at login", not "launch at startup", is selected, AFAIK, that should work. Maybe you need to also open Excel at login to get it to work. However, a check of FInder->Help->Mac Help->search for *open at login* doesn't show that option in the *Opening items automatically when you log in* return. So, the Dock stuff might not work any longer. Try adding it to the login items and see if that fixes things.

  • How to launch iCal on specified date from Cocoa app?

    Hi, I would like to launch iCal from my Cocoa app, but have iCal open on a specific date that I want to pass as an argument.
    I am launching iCal as follows:
    [[NSWorkspace sharedWorkspace] launchApplication:@"iCal"];
    This opens iCal fine. But, is it possible to somehow pass the date I would like iCal to open at?
    Thanks indeed.
    Andy

    Third-party alternative to Scripting Bridge that may be of interest:
    http://appscript.sourceforge.net/
    More reliable, better documentation, better developer tools, supports back to OS X 10.3.9, yadda-yadda. Only relative disadvantage is that you have to bundle or install it yourself, but that's not hard.
    Example:
    // To create glue [1]: osaglue -o ICGlue -p IC iCal
    ICApplication *ical = [ICApplication applicationWithName: @"iCal"];
    NSDate *date = [NSDate dateWithString: @"2008-10-22 00:00:00 +0000"];
    ICViewCalendarCommand *cmd = [[ical viewCalendar] at: date];
    NSError *error;
    id result = [cmd sendWithError: &error];
    if (!result)
    NSLog(@"%@", error);
    Note that when building a framework for inclusion in an application bundle you need you tweak the build settings slightly, e.g. see:
    http://cocoadev.com/index.pl?EmbeddingFrameworksInApplications
    HTH
    [1] Note: I'm currently integrating osaglue into ASDictionary to make it simpler to use, but haven't updated the old osaglue documentation yet. ASDictionary 0.12.0 should be released in another day or two; in the meantime I suggest just using the iCal glue files from the ViewCalendarInICal sample project in the objc-appscript repository.

  • Applications open on startup

    Hi-
    When I start up my PowerBook, several apps open up (Messanger, Appleworks, GarageBand, etc.). Where do I go to not have these open at startup.
    Thanks.

    Hello and Welcome to Apple Discussions ...
    Here's what you do... open System Preferences. System Preferences is in your Applications folder. When Sys Prefs opens, click Accounts, then click the Login Items tab. Messenger, Appleworks, and Garage Band will be listed there. Just click each item, then click the - (minus tab). Quit System Preferences from the Menu. That's it...
    If you need more help, just post back.

  • I am no longer able to double click on a file and have it open.  Any suggestions on how to resolve this problem?

    I am no longer able to double click on a file and have it open.  Any suggestions on how to resolve this problem?

    Please read this whole message before doing anything.
    This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
    The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
    Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you turn on the computer, and again when you log in.
    Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
    Safe mode is much slower to start up and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
    The login screen appears even if you usually login automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
    Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
    After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

  • How to clear the files Photoshop now auto saves from opening on startup?

    Hi, I have a habit of forcing PS to close when rebooting my Mac. It seems to save whatever is open at that time in memory, and those files then open on startup. Except they seem to open everytime I now start PS, and its adding new files all the time! It now takes PS a good few minutes to full load up the 25+ files it now has saved in memory. Its becoming a real knightmare!
    How do I clear these files out please?
    Wesley

    Wesley,
    Making a guess that you are on a Mac. If so there are two ways to resolve this.
    Make sure you close all unnecessary Files before quitting Photoshop.
    Open System Preferences and on the Personal strip click General. Uncheck "Restore windows when quitting and re-opening apps" which is on by default in more recent version of Mac OS X.
    If your issue is still not resolved (or you are on Windows) post back and we will get it resolved.

  • How may I enable open apps to relaunch at startup?

    With Mountain Lion, how may I enable open apps (at shutdown) to relaunch at startup?

    Thanks. Your suggestion is exactly that which I have already done. Interestingly, there is only one app not opening when booting up.
    Any other ideas - greatly appreciated.
    BTW - It's always nice to run across another who enjoys any heading from getting saoked on a beat to running full and bye. Sailing remains one of my great loves. I used to race Lightnings, and compete in the (old) SORC.

  • If I already have firefox open in Linux, how can I open a new URL in a new window.

    I want to be able to click on a button, and have firefox open a new window at a given URL. Currently, if I already have firefox running, then it opens a new tab, which may be on a different desktop. Having to detach the new tab to a new window and move it back to the right desktop seems like unnecessary work.

    If you mean a shortcut or link ''completely outside of Firefox,'' there is a hidden preference to change how that works. This requires a visit to the about:config preferences editor. I think it's (C) below that you might want to change.
    In a new tab, type or paste '''about:config''' and press Enter. Click the button promising to be careful.
    In the filter box, type or paste '''link.o''' and pause while the list is filtered.
    Double click these and set the value as desired:
    '''(A) browser.link.open_newwindow'''
    3 = divert new window to a new tab (<u>default</u>) (checked*)<br>
    2 = allow link to open a new window (unchecked*)<br>
    1 = force new window into same tab
    '''*''' First checkbox in Options > Tabs
    '''(B) browser.link.open_newwindow.restriction''' - for links in Firefox tabs
    0 = apply the setting under (A) to ALL new windows (even script windows)<br>
    2 = apply the setting under (A) to normal windows, but NOT to script windows with features (<u>default</u>)<br>
    1 = override the setting under (A) and always use new windows
    '''(C) browser.link.open_newwindow.override.external''' - for links in other programs
    -1 = apply the setting under (A) to external links (<u>default</u>)<br>
    3 = open external links in a <u>new tab</u> in the last active window<br>
    '''2 = open external links in a <u>new window</u>'''<br>
    1 = open external links in the <u>last active tab</u> replacing the current page
    Does that work?

  • How do I stop applications from opening at startup in Lion?

    When I log in using Lion, Mail, Entourage, and ICal open on my desktop.  I don't want this.  I already tried unchecking the restore windows box under system preferences/general; sometimes it works, and sometimes it doesn't.  The only way to stop it seems to be to uncheck the similar box that appears when you shut down the computer, but you have to do it each time, and I think it doesn't always work either.  The options features in the dock items don't seem to work--they're *already* unchecked, and the windows still open.  I don't want everyone else in my family to see my mail as soon as the computer opens and it's really annoying besides.  Does anyone have a solution?  Thanks.

    I just upgraded to the latest version of Lion--I don't know why it didn't change the info. under my Apple icon.  And I know I can uncheck the box while signing off, but you have to do it each time--I'm looking for a way to uncheck it and recheck whenever I want, the way the dock options are supposed to work (although it doesn't for me anymore with Lion).
    Checked the Users and Groups--the only login items listed are basically 4 apps that I had back when I had my PC and I no longer have them--I may have had Growl for awhile but I deleted it.  There are yellow triangles by them.  No other apps listed there.
    I guess I'll have to uncheck the box each time I sign off.  Tedious, but that's the way it is.  Wish I had Snow Leopard back!
    Thanks for your suggestions though--just wish they worked.
