How to hide certain photos in aperture

hello everyone,
i am trying to hide certain photos from my huge library that my clients should not see accidentally for privacy reasons.
some photo-managers offer this ability but in aperture i didn't figure it out how to do it.
i found a workaround on the web, to rate those photos as 'rejected' and to set the filters down a notch to display everything but the 'rejected'.
that kind of works till i quite aperture. after starting aperture up again, the rejected photos show up.
i would have to set up the filters again to hide them.
this is not what i need.
has anybody a better and more reliable idea?
thx

and, not everything you wanna hide is because of mummy..
there's something called privacy still and those files i'm talking about can be very innocent, but i wouldn't want to show them to you accidentally.
Unless you allow your clients to freely browse your library it's fairly easy to avoid showing unwanted pictures. The first thing I do before a sitting with a client is use the Favorites function: I select the client's project in the library pane, click the gear icon and choose Add to Favorites. Then I click on the looking glass icon in the search field and select Favorite Items — the client's project becomes the only one visible.
This works for me because I don't use this function for anything else, which means I enable and disable Favorites as needed for this purpose.
But the only reason I do this is to get a cleaner interface during a client sitting. If I didn't all the client would see is the names of my other projects and/or clients. He/she would never see the other pictures unless I selected one of these other projects myself or for some reason decided to browse through all my photos, which I would never do.
You say " i would have to set up the filters again to hide them. this is not what i need."
Filters for albums, folders and projects are sticky and will remain active until you disable or change them. Even between restarts. For instance, I organize my library with yearly folders as the top hierarchy but always add the 3 stars and above filter to those folders. If I click back to the 2007 folder it still has that filter enabled. This ability is extremely powerful, much more than a simple hide function because you can control visibility from a whole range of criteria.
To cut this short: the only time your clients would see photos that don't concern them is if you use the Photos or Projects sections of the library pane when you have someone sitting beside you.
I personally wouldn't  do that

  • How do I transfer photos from aperture and iPhoto to bridge?

    How do I transfer photos from Aperture and iPhoto to Adobe Bridge.  I am using Photoshop CS6.  Many of my original photos were stored as raw files.

    Here's how to access Mac iPhoto images for use in Photoshop
    and so that they may be viewed by choosing that folder in Bridge..
    1. In the Finder, navigate to Users > [user name} > Pictures > iPhoto Library.
    2. Control-click (Right-click) the iPhoto Library file and choose Show Package Contents.
    3. A Finder window opens that shows the contents. The Masters folder (or called Originals folder) contains all of the photographs that are in iPhoto.
    Photoshop cannot access this folder, but if you make a duplicate of the folder, the dupe will be accessible -- so:
    4. Control-click (Right-click) the folder named Masters (or Originals) and choose Duplicate.
    5, Drag the duplicate folder which is named "Masters copy" or “Originals copy” from the iPhoto Library Finder window to the Desktop.
    6. Open images in Photoshop from file on desktop or view them in Bridge.
    7  Rename the folder and move it elsewhere (probably to the Pictures folder), if desired.

  • How can I export photos from Aperture with a new sequence and ignore the embedded JPEG number? Have tried renumbering to no avail.

    How can I export photos from APERTURE with a new sequence and ignore the embedded JPEG number? Have tried renumbering to no avail.
    has anyone resolved this issue?
    This is now the second big Problem with using Apple's Appeture with NO apparent FIX...
    Aperture has NO DIRECT way to Burn to a CD/DVD & apparently NO way to RE-SEQUENCE the numbering system????
    ANYONE... I wish APPLE would address/fix these 2 problems... LIGHTROOM I guess is next?

    Hi David,
    Coming in and whining loudly is rude.  We are all volunteers here, voluntarily sharing our expertise so that users like you can make the most of their time with Aperture.  Speaking just for myself:  although I do care about your success with software (it's why I'm here), I don't care what software you use.  If you want to use Lightroom, do so, and post your questions in an appropriate forum.
    Burning files to a CD is a file operation done at the system level (it is built into OS X).  Aperture lets your create sharable image-format files from your Images.  You then use OS X's tools to burn those files to a CD.  Iirc, you can set up a "Burn Folder" in Finder, into which you can export files created from your Images, and with a single click burn your CD.
    Naming the files you create by exporting your Images can be tricky.  There are _many_ possibilities.  Some things can't be done.  Sequencing can be done in a number of ways (see Léonie's answer above).  What have you tried?  What was the result?  In what way did this differ from what you expected?

  • HOW DO I burn photos from APERTURE 3 TO A DISK

    How do I burn photos in Aperture 3 to a disk?  Thanks in advance.      Jack

    I just got a mac book so I'm fairly new to this but, I do alot of editing. I uploaded three camera SD cards full of pictures into apeture, did my adjustment, and organized the album the way I wanted. Now when I tried exporting the album onto my desktop all of the pictures jumbled out of place. (They aren't in order.) I need to upload them onto a CD and I can't figure out how to get them in order on the CD.
    Also Jmiller this is probobly a stupid question but when I get to the part where I want to export my version files I can't find the blank disc. Where do I go to find the CD?
    Thanks

  • How to select certain photos/events to show up on desktop?

      I would like to select certain event folders from IPhoto to show up on my desktop screen saver. Is there a way to do that?  My problem, is that certain photo's show up that I may have even deleted? Annoying. At times, I may do some editing and IMovie projects for friends and their photo's may show up on my screen saver.  Want this to be more personal, pertaining to my family.  How do I accomplish this? Please, detail the procedure on doing the process if it can be done. Thanks.

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities. We're users here and don't speak for "Apple Inc."
    Here's how I do it:
    In iPhoto, I edit the images as necessary. Then I flag (Command + .) those images I want to use.
    They are automatically gathered into the 'Flagged' group under Recent within iPhoto.
    By flagging, I'm not limited to just selecting photos from a single event.
    When I've flagged all the images, (Command + .) I select the Flagged group and simply export the flagged photos I want to use into a Folder named 'Screen Saver Photos' on my desktop. (Original name, eh?) Then link to it from System Preferences, Screen Saver, Source:
    On a 500GB or 1TB drive, duplicating even a few hundred 5MB .jpg photos for this purpose isn't going to use much of the available space. When I'm ready for a new look, I delete the files in 'Screen Saver Photos' folder and start over once again.

  • How do I import photos from aperture?

    How do I import photos into Final Cut Express from Aperture?

    Export versions from Aperture and import the files into FCE.

  • How secure are my photos in Aperture?

    This is following on from another question I asked the other day about how best to organise my library.
    Prior to using Aperture I used to store all of my photos in two directories. RAW files where stored in one called Digital Negatives and high res TIFF files in once called Final Prints.
    This is my current workflow:
    1. Create folder in Digital Negatives directory named after shoot date and download all photos into it.
    2. Create a new project in Aperture and import the photos as referenced material.
    3. Do all the neccassary RAW processing etc and, if required open certain files in External Editor (Photoshop), save those changes and this updates the version in Aperture.
    So far so good, so far so simple.
    However it strikes me that in doing this I'm not actually creating a new file to store in my Final Prints. If Aperture where to stop working (something I've read in these forums when applying an update) I have no access to my finished photos. If I were to ever decide to stop using Aperture I'd loose all my edits etc. Ultimately yes I would still have my RAW files but the idea of having to re-process several thousand files and trying to recreate the image exactly as it originally was is going to be nigh on impossible.
    So, is it safe to just leave Aperture to handle all of my files like this or should I as a matter of course export all photos that I want to keep as high res tiffs?

    We just finished a podcast interview with Joe Schorr (prd. mgr) that'll be up at ApertureProfessional.com in a few days, but the bottom line is this...
    If you reference your images, and your library were to vanish, with no backup at all, you still would have your original raw files. You'd just be missing your adjustments, keywords, etc. But as the other posters said, you need to back up any type of file that is crucial to you.
    However, the comment "even if Aperture were to stop working" isn't something that could happen. The program Aperture is not the library of files it creates. If your copy of Aperture were to somehow stop working, you could just reinstall it. Or, if your computer died and you had your library backed up, you'd could just move that library to any other computer. Aperture wont' "stop working" on any universal level.
    Even if, hypothetically, Apple were to go out of business tomorrow, the copies of Aperture on your computers would still work. Whether stored in the Library or stored as referenced files, they're still stored as their original raw files, and any program that can edit those can read them.
    Even better, you can, if you're really concerned, periodically export your images along with XMP sidecars, then you could just pick right up in Adobe Bridge and keep going.
    Incidentally, files that live in the Library are still not locked in. The library's just one big folder. If you right click on it and select "Show Package Content" you'll be able to navigate through a folder structure of your images that matches the layout of your projects.

  • How to hide duplicate photos that origins from the photo stream and imported photos?

    Hi,
    I are using my camera both with an IPad (through SD-card reader) and directly to my iMac.
    I want to keep the full photo archive on the iMac.
    Now the problem, that I encounter, is that if I use the iPad to look at the photos, those photos will be transfered to the photo-stream.
    Then later when I import all my photos from the camera to the i Mac, those photos that I happened to import to the iPad will show up as duplicate in iPhoto.
    Of course I only want one copy of a photo regardless if they arrive from the photo-stream or through a direct import to my iMac.
    Is there a way to fix this problem or is it simply a bug?
    I think it would be rather easy for the iPhoto software to detect duplicates and hide them.

    You can use one of these applications to identify and remove duplicate photos from an iPhoto Library:
    iPhoto Library Manager - $29.95
    Duplicate Annihilator - $7.95 - only app able to detect duplicate thumbnail files or faces files when an iPhoto 8 or earlier library has been imported into another.
    PhotoSweeper - $9.95 - This app can search by comparing the image's bitmaps or histograms thus finding duplicates with different file names and dates.
    DeCloner - $19.95 - can find dupicates in iPhoto Libraries or in folders on the HD.
    DupliFinder - $7 - shows which events the photos are in.
    iPhoto AppleScript to Remove Duplicates - Free
    Some users have reported that PhotoSweeper did the best in finding all of the dups in their library: i photo has duplicated many photos, how...: Apple Support Communities.
    If you have an iPhone and have it set to keep the normal photo when shooting HDR photos the two image files that are created will be duplicates in a manner of speaking (same image) but the only duplicate finder app that detected the iPhone HDR and normal photos as being duplicates was PhotoSweeper.  None of the other apps detected those two files as being duplicates as they look for file name as well as other attributes and the two files from the iPhone have diffferent file names.
    iPLM, however, is the best all around iPhoto utility as it can do so much more than just find duplicates.  IMO it's a must have tool if using iPhoto.

  • How to hide mail photo browser

    Friends,
    When using the photo browser to attach images to mail messages, I've found that the only way to hide the browser is to close it.  Is there any way to make it behave like every other window, which is to move back in the stack when I click on another window, such as my mail message?
    Thanks!

  • How can I show photos from aperture via airplay?

    We try to show the photos via airplay to apple TV. now does that work?

    Hi Bob,
    I am trying to do it like the instructions by using iTunes to show photos from my Aperture library.  When I select this in iTunes no photos are linked and thus I cannot show them using my Apple TV.  Are you streaming directly to your Apple TV from the Aperture application?

  • How do I get photos from aperture to iPhone?

    so far, photostream seems to be working fine as far as moving pics from my iPhone to Aperture 3/iPhoto.
    After the IOS5 update, I realized I have none of the pictures on my phone I originally had.
    Is there a new process to get pictures from Aperture / iPhoto to my iPhone or is it the same plug and sync routine?
    Thanks

    I think the original poster may have the same issue I'm facing...
    iTunes does not sync Aperture pictures to the iPhone if they originate from Photostream! That is, in Aperture I have events like "Jan 2012 Photostream", "Feb 2012 Photostream" and so on. But those events do not sync with the iPhone via iTunes! That's why the photos that originally used to be on the Photostream, but have since deleted because they have become more than 30 days old, are no longer on your iPhone.
    I've been trying with AppleCare to sort out the issue, but so far they don't seem to know what's causing it. I think it's probably a bug in either Aperture or iTunes.

  • How to hide certain items in a Combo Box

    I've two Combo Box(CB). First CB contain 4 items(drop-down menus) and the 2nd CB contain 12 items.
    I want that when I select one of the items from Combo Box1, then only 4 out of 12 items from Combo Box2 should be visible. So actually I want first combo Box to act as filter. Could this be done using the AS3 code.

    I don't think there is any way to hide items, but you can rewrite he items basd on the selectedIndex value of the cbHeight combobox.  In the code below, each element of the weightData array is an array of objects.
    import fl.data.DataProvider;
    var weightData:Array = new Array();
    weightData.push([{label: "100"},{label: "110"},{label: "120"},{label: "130"}]);
    weightData.push([{label: "200"},{label: "210"},{label: "220"},{label: "230"}]);
    weightData.push([{label: "300"},{label: "310"},{label: "320"},{label: "330"}]);
    function heightSelected(evt:Event):void
         var hSelected:int = evt.target.selectedIndex;
         var dp:DataProvider = new DataProvider(weightData[hSelected]);
          cbWeight.dataProvider = dp;
