How to hide or rename the HP Printer's Mac address from Lion Finder Sidebar

I have an HP d100a all in one printer, and since upgrading to OSX 10.7 (Lion), my printer's mac address shows up in the Finder Sidebar under Shared devices. I understand this is for the printers SD card slot to be shared over my network, however the name is not user friendly.
Is there a way to rename what is displayed in the Finder window, from the devices mac address to a friendlier name?
If not, is there a way to disable the sharing of the SD card slot so it is hidden from the sidebar completely?
I have found several posts from people not knowing what this entry is, but I have not managed to find any posts that explain how to rename or hide the entry.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have also registered to this forum to inform that the problem with showing the MAC-address in the sidebar of the finder is still not solved.
The strange thing is that the Embedded Web Server says:
"This specifies the Bonjour domain name assigned to the device, in the form <host name>.local. If a user-specified host name has not been assigned, the default host name HPxxxxxx is used, where xxxxxx are the last 6 digits of the LAN hardware (MAC) address. This option cannot be modified."
But I did assign a user-specified host name and that name does show-up everywere (also within Bonjour), except in the sidebar of the finder (hp###xx##x####). Lots of people have the same issue, when searching on the interet, but not one has found the solution.
Please help with solving this issues?

  • Honouring the selected Printer on Mac - how ?

    Hi All,
    I have the following snippit of code to first prompt the user with a print dialog, then print the currently opened PDF document.
    My issue is,  while settings (such as page range, duplex, etc) are all being applied - the selected printer isn't and this is causing issues
    1) On one test machine - it's just not printing   (I suspect, because we initially set up the wrong printer - deleted it and added the correct one)
    2) On my machine - it's always printing to my first printer even when I select one of my alternative printers.
    I have the following code :
        PMSessionPrintDialog (printer_printSession, printer_printSettings, printer_pageFormat, &accepted);
        if(accepted)
            printer_rec.printSession = printer_printSession;
            printer_rec.printSettings = printer_printSettings;
            printer_rec.pageFormat = printer_pageFormat;
            UInt32 first, last, numCopies;
            PMGetFirstPage(printer_printSettings, &first);
            printer_rec.startPage = first-1;    // mac defines first page as 1, PDFL as 0
            PMGetLastPage(printer_printSettings, &last);
            if( last < first )  last = first;
            printer_rec.endPage = last-1;       // endPage is not inclusive.
            PMGetCopies(printer_printSettings, &numCopies);
            printer_rec.nCopies = numCopies;    }
    Then, the actual print
        DURING
      PDFLPrintDoc(doc, &printer_rec);
            success = true;
        HANDLER
            handle_PDF_Error( out );
        END_HANDLER
    What am I missing so that on Mac it honours the printer the user select on Mac ?
    Note : On windows, you set the 'deviceName' and 'portName'.    What's the equivalent on Mac ?
    thanks
    Kent.

    MagicMenu, but it may no longer work.
    Auto-hide the dock and menubar on a per-app basis .
    Hide Your Mac Menu Bar and Dock for a Cleaner Desktop.
    All found doing a Google search. Why not give that a try first before posting here.

    Go to iTunes and erase all the songs you don't want from your library or check the "Manually manage music and videos" box, erase all the songs from your iPod and only put the songs you want or check the "Sync only checked songs" box and check every single song in your library (Crtl+Click on a check box (if on PC)) and uncheck the ones you don't want.

  • How do I check if the associated PageItem is there/exists from a XMLElement ?

    Hi,
    I have the following structure:
    Extension Builder 1.5;
    InDesign 5.0;
    Image (Rectangule Frame);
    XML tag associated with the Image.
    The following scenario:
    I do have an application that checks if this strucuture is available and intact, that is, the user has not deleted the tag (XMLElement) and/or the Rectangule Frame(PageItem);
    I do not want loop through allPageItems (the page should have many of them - more than 1000) and get the XMLElement;
    So, I loop over the XMLElements and get the associated PageItem through xmlElement.xmlContent property;
    The document images properties (image, epss, etc) never are populated (document.epss.length = 0);
    I can validate if the tag was deleted or untaged easy.
    The problem:
    User deletes the Image/Rectangule Frame (PageItem) and keep the xml tag (untag the XMLElement);
    The isValid property (xmlElement.isValid = true) is true;
    The associated PageItem becomes a Text and is valid as well;
    The question:
    How do I check if the associated PageItem is there/exists from a XMLElement ?

  • How do I deactivate all the activations of my PocketBook device from my digital ID

    I have a reader PocketBook IQ701. When I started to move borrowed books tro the device, I moved the ACSM file to the device directly and then opened the file on the device. I was asked to enter ID, and authorization was OK, but the book was not readable. I had to reboot the device, to start over. I did this or similare a couple of times before I got the message "E_ACT_TOO_MANY_ACTIVATIONS". Then I found out to start (the right way) from the PC with digital editions, but when I tried to authorize the device, I again got the message "E_ACT_TOO_MANY_ACTIVATIONS ...". How do I deactivate all the activations of my PocketBook device from my ID.
    I have used another email-adress to create a new Digital ID, and used this to make it work, but I would rather use my own email adress, which I also use with my smartphone and the Bluefire reader.

    Digital Editions help people are supposed to be able to reset your
    counters.  However, you have to be persistent - this is NOT a problem that
    will be resolved if you buy HELP time because the product is free.  And
    most of the tech's I've talked to won't do anything because they've been
    set up to do product support for those Adobe products that you pay money
    for.
    Be persistent.....

  • Printer showing MAC address in sidebar

    I have just setup a Canon MX850 printer on my home network and the MAC address of it is showing in the sidebar. The only way to remove it is to change the sidebar preferences which I don't want to do as I want to see other servers on the network. How do I change the printer settings to show the MX850 instead of the printers MAC address?

    I have never seen this with any of my Canon printers. I have an iP5200R that is connected wirelessly to my network and an iP6000D that is connected to the USB port of an Airport Extreme. When I configured the iP5200R to join my wireless network, it was displayed in the Canon utility with its MAC address. Also, when I added its printer queue using More Printers > Canon IJ Network, the printer was also shown in the list with its MAC address. However, as I write this reply this printer does not display in any part of the Finder.
    Is the printer displayed under the Shared section in the sidebar?
    Also, how is the printer connected to your network? Is it being shared by another computer or is it connected via Ethernet or wireless?

  • How to get MAC address from client machine ?

    Hi dear,
    We are implementing security measures for a banking system, so it is required that we track the MAC address of the registered clients along with other parameters. How do we get the MAC address from client machine using ADF or running scripts in client side?

    Hi,
    Welcome to OTN.
    Your question has nothing to do with ADF as such. Googling would give you plenty of such topics.

  • What is the threat to my Mac OS from malware?

    What is the threat to my Mac OS from walware?

    Mac OS X versions 10.6.7 and later have built-in detection of known Mac malware in downloaded files. The recognition database is automatically updated once a day; however, you shouldn't rely on it, because the attackers are always at least a day ahead of the defenders. In most cases, there’s no benefit from any other automated protection against malware.
    The most effective defense against malware is your own intelligence. All known malware that affects an up-to-date Mac OS system takes the form of trojans that can only operate if the victim is duped into running them. If you're smarter than the malware attacker thinks you are, you won't be duped. That means, primarily, that you never install software from an untrustworthy source. How do you know a source is untrustworthy?
    Any website that prompts you to install a “codec,” “plug-in,” or “certificate” that comes from that same site, or an unknown site, merely in order to use the site, is untrustworthy.
    A web operator who tells you that you have a “virus,” or that anything else is wrong with your computer, or that you have won a prize in a contest you never entered, is trying to commit a crime with you as the victim.
    “Cracked” versions of commercial software downloaded from a bittorrent are likely to be infected.
    Software with a corporate brand, such as Adobe Flash Player, must be downloaded directly from the developer’s website. No intermediary is acceptable.
    Disable Java (not JavaScript) in your web browser(s). Few websites have Java content nowadays, so you won’t be missing much. This setting is mandatory in Mac OS X 10.5.8 or earlier, because Java in those versions has bugs that make it unsafe to use on the Internet. Those bugs will probably never be fixed.
    Follow these guidelines, and you’ll be as safe from malware as you can reasonably be.
    Never install any commercial "anti-virus" products for the Mac, as they all do more harm than good. If you need to be able to detect Windows malware in your files, use ClamXav — nothing else.
