How to Hide Size Column in List View

My default setting for the Finder is to have folders display in list view with the size column turned off. This works like a charm for every folder except the Applications folder which always displays a size column whenever the finder is re-launched (it's always scrolled to the bottom of the list too, which is weird). It wouldn't bother me if the size values were cached somehow and just updated quietly in the background but it takes quite a while to calculate each value and actually slows down the finder.
I've tried deleting finder preferences but to no avail.
Does anyone know what's going on here?
[The above was originally posted here [http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=9524102#9524102] but I was asked to move along by a surly faced police officer]

OK. Problem fixed but unfortunately not completely solved.
Talking about permissions and administrator issues made me wonder, so I logged in using my admin account and seemed to be having exactly the same issue. I was unable to set a default permamantly for the Applications folder. Except that when I tried to set a default in another folder (Documents I think) and restarted the Finder the setting held for all directories. When I logged back in under my regular user account it also held.
I have finally eliminated that pesky size column -- for good! (Of course I may want it occasionally, but that's at my discretion). The window also maintains a correct scroll point, corresponding to where it was last positioned.
I wish I knew exactly what has happened. All I really know is that fiddling (as usual) has fixed it and that it probably has something to do with Administrator privileges.
Thanks again for your suggestions and especially for being a sounding board.

  • How to Hide Size Column

    Hi,
    In my Applications folder on mac it takes a long time to populate the size column with file sizes when the applications are being displayed in list view.
    So I have 2 questions:
    1. How do I hide the size column for just applications folder?
    Also how do I have different views on different folders?
    2. I seems when I select list view it changes it globally for all folders.
    Why?

    I'm having a related problem and have been for a long time.

    using OOB functionality or javascript.

    Hello,
    Use this codeplex tool to hide ribbon to user group:
    http://spribbonvisibility.codeplex.com/
    If you don't want to use above tool then you have to add SPSecuritytrimming in "Rajiv Kumar" code for filtering based on user group permission.

  • Custom column in List view

    Dear guru's,
    I'd like to ask you if its possible to add custom column in list view. For example in tc. FBL1N I'd like to add a column with custom text (for example with value "1" for counting the sum of rows). Is it possible to do without creating custom program?
    Thank you all.
    Regards.
    Michael.

    Hi Michael,
    It's not possible to add some extra text in standard out-put without modifying it or creating custom program.
    For adding a column in your list view. I think this write statement will help you
    WRITE 'You can overwrite the following line:'.
    FORMAT INPUT ON INTENSIFIED OFF.
    WRITE 'WRITE HERE'.
    FORMAT INPUT OFF INTENSIFIED ON.

  • Hide a column in one view, but show in other

    Hi all.
    I need to hide a column on "Table" view, but column needs to show up on "Pivot table".
    I know we can hide it on pivot ( exclude It ) and show on table, but I want to know if reverse is possible.
    This is needed because I am doing a view selector for writeback. And I dont want to display all the columns on writeback table view. But it needs to be there on Pivot table.
    Please let me know if it is possible.
    Thanks.
    Vinay

    Yes we can do that.
    Check on the "Hide" in the column format tab of the column that you need to display in the table lay out.
    Now dupliate the same view and in the pivot table column intially you will not see the column displayed.
    Now in the properties check on "hidden" in the "format headings" and you wont see it still and now uncheck the"hidden" and you shoud be able to see the column displayed in the pivot view
    In this way you will have the column hidden in the table view and displayed in the pivot table.
    Hope it helps

  • Show columns for song "Type" and "Size" in v8 list view?

    I often sort songs and audio files by either type (mp3 / aif / AAC), or size (how many MB.)
    I can't find how to reveal these columns in v8 -- in 7 i would use command-J to reveal the "view options" dialog, then simply check the boxes to display "type" and "size"
    The new View Options dialog only has a few options for columns.
    Where did they go?
    Thanks.

    Try right clicking at the top of any column and choosing from the list that appears. If you what to display the file format/type (MP3, AAV etc.)choose "Kind".

    Hi.
    In WebCenter Content forum you'll find more help.
    However try to hide the column following this steps:
    Go to Web Layout Editor applet in Administration -> Admin Applets.
    In Options -> Query Results Pages and edit the StandardResults. In text 2 delete reference to revisions.
    If it don't "hide" revision column then probably have to create a custom component.

  • How to hide some column filter operators in Interactive Report

    Hi,
    I have an APEX 4.2 application what includes Interactive Report page.
    Is there possibilty to hide or disable some filter operators in column filter?
    But I don't want to disable all filter functionality for end users.
    For example how to hide/disable operator "matches regular expression".
    Some filter operators are too complicated for end users.
    I have searhced but not found solution.

    I wouldn't really recommend this. Users will quickly recognise what works for them and avoid options that they do not currently understand. However, over time—through training or advice from more experienced users—they may come to understand and use all of the available features. Blocking access (especially in a non-standard way) to options that users may eventually need is likely to result in unnecessary development work now and at some (possibly inconvenient) time in the future.
    That said, this really isn't difficult to implement using CSS. Use your browser web inspector to identify which filter types are to be blocked, using the value attribute of the filter Operator select list in the generated IR HTML. For example, in APEX 5.0 a filter operator select list looks like:
    <select id="R70597672218719366505_STRING_OPT" class="a-IRR-operator" data-column-type="STRING" title="Operator" name="p_ignore_10" size="1">
      <option value="=">=</option>
      <option value="!=">!=</option>
      <option value="is null">is null</option>
      <option value="is not null">is not null</option>
      <option value="like">like</option>
      <option value="not like">not like</option>
      <option value="in">in</option>
      <option value="not in">not in</option>
      <option value="contains">contains</option>
      <option value="does not contain">does not contain</option>
      <option value="regexp_like">matches regular expression</option>
    </select>
    The "matches regular expression" option has the value regexp_like, so the required CSS rule using the IR operator select list class and an attribute selector on the option value is:
    .a-IRR-operator option[value="regexp_like"] {
      display: none;
    Additional selectors for other filter types can be added to this rule as required, for example:
    .a-IRR-operator option[value="regexp_like"],
    .a-IRR-operator option[value="is not null"] {
      display: none;
    to eliminate the "is not null" filter.
    To implement this for all IRs in your application, create a custom CSS style sheet containing the rule, upload it to your workspace, and reference it in all of the page templates used for IR pages.
    This is not a 100% foolproof solution. CSS is not an appropriate way to implement security restrictions. A web-savvy user could use their web inspector to disable the CSS rule and access the blocked filter(s). However there is little risk here as (1) it appears that your users will lack the required expertise; and (2) doing so will only allow them to further filter data they already have access to.
