How to watch what is on my computer on teh television

It will depend on which one of the 9 different models of MacBook you have. To see which model you have go to the Apple in the upper left corner and select About This Mac, then click on More Info. When System Profiler comes up check the Model Identifier and post it back here.
Then it will depend on what input plug you'll be using on your TV. VGA, DVI, Composite or HDMI. You'll need a Mini-DVI adapter and a cable from that to your TV. (Composite is the red, white and yellow RCA plugs on your TV or red, white and S-Video plugs.)
You'll also need audio cables to the TV using a 3.5mm stereo headphone jack to RCA sound plugs for VGA, DVI or Composite. If you connect the MacBook using a Mini-DVI to HDMI adapter you will probably need to use external speakers or a 3.5mm stereo headphone jack to RCA sound plugs connected to a stereo system for audio if your TV doesn't have separate RCA input plugs for audio with the HDMI plug. The Mini-DVI to HDMI doesn't carry audio and there're no audio plugs on most TVs to work with HDMI since it's expecting audio with the HDMI.

How to hook up Power Mac G4 to my i.Mac

Been browsing through discussions and Apple stuff, talked to support techs at Apple Care (with less than desired results), but still need help on how to do this.
Here's what I want to do: Get step-by-step instructions on how to hook up an "old" (think it was made in 1999) Power Mac G4 to my i.Mac computer.
a) primarily to serve as back-up for my documents, pictures, music, etc., even programs if that can be done, and;
b) actually use some of the old programs that are on that old G4 (i.e. Adobe Pagemaker)
Here's what I have:
1) a flat-panel i.Mac, 1 GHz PowerPC G4, 256 MB DDR SDRAM, using Panther;
2) an old Power Mac G4 (the rather large, vertical hard drive) of which I know nothing about the specs....like memory, storage, or system it has, etc......at least until I can get into it. It's been sitting idle for about four years;
3) a three-foot, 6-pin to 6-pin cable (Belkin) which I am told is what I need to connect the two computers via FireWire jacks.
So, presuming I have all that is needed to hook these two machines up, how do I proceed. A "1, 2, 3 instruction would be very much appreciated.
For example, should both computers be turned on "before" inserting the FireWire cable, or......should just the i.Mac be turned on, then insert the cable, then turn on the old Mac?
Once hooked up, and powered up, it's my understanding I'll see on icon for the old Mac on my i.Mac desktop. To copy files, I'm supposed to just drag and drop to the old Mac icon. Is that right?
Then to actually use the old Mac, I'm supposed to reboot my i.Mac, then hold down the "t" key just after the reboot "sound," or little circling icon, and I'll be in the old Mac? The screen will show everything on the "old" Mac? Is this right? Sounds simple enough, but.
If this is right and I'm actually in the old Mac, can I then sort and arrange documents I've dragged and dropped, and can I use programs that are already on that old Mac......like Pagemaker?
And, how do I get "out" of the old Mac and back into my i.Mac?
I see through discussions that I can apparently backup my entire i.Mac hard drive by going to the HD finder window and dragging and dropping my user folder icon (the little one that appears at the top and in the center of the Finder window, to the old Mac icon. Does that sound right?
I surely would appreciate some help on this. What I've got so far is piecemeal tidbits, nonsequential, and often, unclear.

I guess the first thing I'll have to do is get an ethernet cable. Presumably, the FireWire cable will not be needed now. Correct?
The same questions still seem to apply. I did print out the "Connecting two computers using Ethernet" that you forwarded to me.
1) But, do I power up both computers before installing Ethernet cable?
2) After following instructions on the"Connecting two computers....." will an icon appear for the old Power Mac?
3) After hooking up the Ethernet cable, do I have to re-boot, use the "T" key, to get into the old Power Mac?
4) After fiddling around on the old Power Mac, how do I get out of there and back onto my i.Mac?
5) Or, because it would be hooked up via Ethernet, could I simply go back and forth between the two computers?
By the way, after checking out your info on how to identify my old Power Mac, this is the info I've been able to glean, I think:
The old Power Mac is:
• A Power Mac G4 (PCI Graphics)........and therefore, it says, not able to serve as a target computer backup with my i.Mac
• Apparently made in 1999
• System, apparently, is OS 8.6 (my i.Mac is OS X 10.3.9...Panther)
• Model number either M7631 or M7826 (can't find it on the computer)
• Memory: PC 100 SDRAM, up to 1 GB (don't know how much it has now)
• I have no idea how much storage is available (i.e. my i.Mac is 74.5 GB (I think)

Am considering buying a Time Capsule. But all specs I read about it (re: printing) is how to hook up a printer via USB connection. Need to confirm...that a wireless printer will work with the router feature of the Time Capsule. I assume yes...?

A wireless printer connects to the network just like your computer, or iPhone/iPad, etc. connects using wireless.
The printer must be set up intially to scan to "find" available wireless networks, then your specific wireless network needs to be selected. Then the password for the network needs to be entered.
Once the printer is configured to join the network, it is always connected to the network. No further configuration is required.

Are you referring to mirroring or you just unable to set up homesharing.

AirPrint finds any air print enabled printers on your wifi network, and won't find any printers that are not. So if you print from, say, safari, and it finds that printer, then that is your printer. It may have a different name than you were expecting.
Turn the printer off, and see if the print job still sees the printer. That will confirm that the one it sees is yours.
What happens when you send the print job?
If you are sharing a wifi network with others, and one of them has a AirPrint printer on the network, you will see that one. There is not way to have it forget one, so you will need to know your printer from the other printer, and select the right one.

How to hook up a Linksys WRT54G to Motorola NVG589. PLEASE HELP!

Hello, I have recently switched over to AT&T Uverse and I am loving it. One thing I miss is having extra ethernet ports to plug in my desktop computer and my Xbox 360. When the Uverse technician came in, he installed a Motorola NVG589 modem that also has a built in wireless router. He also installed a VAP2500 as a receiver for 2 wireless TV boxes. The VAP2500 plugs into the back of the Motorola NVG589. 3 other TV boxes are plugged into the back as well. My dilemma is the fact that all of the ports are being taken up. I need at least 2 more ethernet ports free so I can hook up my Xbox 360 (my model doesn't have built in wifi) and my desktop computer as well. I told the technician this when he installed the system and he told me to go on ebay and buy 2 cheap splitters and split 2 TV boxes that are coming into the NVG589. I did so. It didn't work out. I called up AT&T and the guy over the phone said that was the worst thing I could've done. He told be I should buy an ethernet switch. I had my Linksys WRT54G (Version 6) router laying around at the time and realized that it had a built in ethernet switch. I want to get this to also function as another Wifi hotspot because I have an old PowerMac G4 downstairs that won't connect to the NVG589 for some reason (it says connection timeout). I am guessing that the wifi card in the system may be too old to connect to the modern NVG589. So, I need the 2 extra ethernet ports and another Wifi hotspot from this setup. I have tried multiple things to get this to work. The closest way I could get it to work was when I plugged an ethernet cable from the LAN port on the WRT54G to port on the back of the NVG589. I then plugged the TV box ethernet cable I had to disconnect into the second LAN port on the WRT54G as well as plugging my Xbox 360 into the 3rd LAN port and my computer into the 4th LAN port. This worked great for the TV box and the Xbox 360. However, the computer's ethernet connection ran very slow and the WIfi from the WRT54G was very slow as well. The Wifi from the NVG589 was slow too. I unhooked that setup and put it back to what it was beforehand. Is there anyone that knows of a flawless way of setting this up? Any articles someone can link me to? I've heard of bridging the NVG589...would that help me? How exactly would I do that? Please HELP. I have attached pics. On the back of the NVG589 - green ethernet is the DSL cable, both white ethernet cables along with the black one are TV boxes and the yellow ethernet cable is the VAP 2500. Thanks!

Ya, the install tech must have been sleeping or texting or something during training.... or it's possible he misunderstood you and thought your were talking about needing extra phone ports, which could be accomplished with simple splitters. You were almost where you needed to be with your setup, you just missed some steps. Connect your wired computer only to one of the Linksys' LAN port. With the Linksys powered up press and hold the reset button for 15 seconds (will need toothpick or unfolded paperclip). This will perform a "factory" reset. When the Linksys is fully rebooted, log in to the Linksys. Do not configure the "Internet Connection Type" on the Linksys. Navigate to the "Wireless" section on the Linksys and configure the wireless. Do not use the same SSID (wireless network name) that the NVG589 uses. Save changes. Navigate to the "LAN" configuration on the Linksys and set the routers address to 192.168.1.1 and disable the DHCP Server. Save changes. This step will kick you out of the router. Power down your computer and the Linksys, run an Ethernet cable from a LAN port on the NVG589 to a LAN port on the Linksys, then power up the Linksys, and when it's fully rebooted, power up your computer. You should be good to go at this point. You will want to individually configure your wireless devices to use either the wireless network from the NVG or the wireless network from the Linksys. Otherwise they make keep jumping back and forth between the two, which will degrade performance for that device. You may still notice a slight to moderate performance drop for the wireless on both the NVG and the Linksys because they will be competing for the same wireless airspace along with the VAP2500.

How to hook up the Qosmio G20 to a TV?

Hi, I posted here a long time ago and I still haven't found a solution to this problem.
I want to hook my laptop up to my TV. I'm always in a different room so I'll be either hooking it up to a 21" Toshiba, or a 32"Sony or a 51"Toshiba - I don't know if hooking up to different makes of TV's will create a problem. I've tried hooking the laptop up with an S-video cable and a DVI cable (both of which have a scart connection at one end).
I just can't get the thing to work with a TV!! Here's exactly what I'm doing when I try:
* I click start then I click on Control Panel
* I click on "Appearance and Themes"
* I click on "Display"
* I click the "Settings" tab
* I click on "Advanced"
* I click on the "GeForce Go 6600" tab
* I select the settings so that I get a clone view on the digital flat panel and a TV.
* I click on "Device Settings" to make sure that all the settings for the TV are correct.
* I press "Apply" and NOTHING happens!!
Can anyone help me out?! I got this laptop ages ago and I still haven;t got this feature to work! Any help will be really appreciated! I am eagerly waiting for ANY replies.

Since both the S-video and D-video cables have a scart connection at one end I always check through the scart channels on the TV when I hook up the laptop. However, nothing is ever displayed - I've even tried to scan for new channels, but nothing seems to work.
Also, I know about the Fn hotkeys, but it doesn't allow you to go through the different display settings (such as Ntsc or Pal settings and screen resolutions - all of which I've tried changing to get this thing to work).
Have you (or anyone else) got any other suggestions? Before I posted on the forum I checked through all the posts to see if anyone had any similar problems. Someone had the same problem and said that his BIOS setup had only HD working and so this disabled his S-video and D-video connection from working? How do I check the BIOS setup - maybe this is what's causing the problem?
Please help me out - all suggestions are welcome here!!

The Late 2008 model 5,1 Aluminum Unibody and the Late 2009 model 6,1 and Mid 2010 model 7,1 White Unibody have a Mini DisplayPort. The Early 2006 model 1,1 through Early 2008 model 4,1s plus the Early and Mid 2009 model 5,2s have Mini-DVI ports. Each would take a different adapter to connect with the TV.
And also what input plug you'll be using on your TV. VGA, DVI, Composite or HDMI. (Composite is the red, white and yellow RCA plugs on your TV or red, white and S-Video plugs.)

Try this:
Press the button marked "Caps Lock" on the left hand edge of your keyboard.
Right now I can hear myself think!
Ensure the video cables are connected firmly.
Go to Apple menu > System Preferences... > Displays > Display tab.
Try different resolutions and refresh rates until you get a steady picture.
