How to hook up a Laserwriter 16/600 so it works with computers running Mac OS 10.6 or greater.

I am using a MacBook Pro 2.4 Ghz. I am using an Apple  1Tb Time Capsule as my source for the internet and "router" (I don't know if I'm using the terminology correctly, so if you need clarification, ask away). I have that Time Capsule connected to my Laserwriter 16/600 (32 meg ram) via an eternet cable from an Ethernet port on the Time Capsule to an Apple Twisted Pair Transceiver Model No M0437 on the 16/600 printer.  Is this an acceptable AAIU Transceiver?
I can print to the Laserwriter 16/600 with any machine that has OS 10.5 or less because they have Appletalk. If I have greater than OS 10.5 those machines do not recognize the Laserwriter 16/600. I can set it up as described in other posts telling me to us IP printing and the printer's IP address, and it refuses to connect. When a print order is given, It just searches for the printer continually and finally gives up saying it cannot connect. I know the IP address of the printer, 198.162.1.6 in this case because I have a machine that runs OS 9 and can use the old Apple Printer Utility to discern such essential details. I can change the IP address to anything I want and have done so. Nothing works.
Let me say, as well, that I can print with the Mac OS 10.6 printer as long as I use Bonjour, but that necessitates having a computer with 10.5 or less act as the "bridge" between the two. I'm already doing that with success, but it gets wearisome having to make sure both computers are up, running and not asleep. I want to print from the 10.6 or greater computer whether others are running or not.
I can do all the above, entering in the correct IP address and it still will NOT connect with the printer via this current hook up. I can even hard wire to the Apple Twisted Pair Transceiver Model No. M0437 using an Ethernet cable hard wired between the Transceiver and the MacBook running OS 10.6 completely omitting any wireless connection and NOTHING connects.
What am I doing wrong?
Please don't give me "theory" (what should work) because I've tried it all and it doesn't. Tell me only if you have a similar set up, running OS 10.6 or greater and have had consistent success printing to a Laserwriter 16/600.  I realize that the problem is that Apple ceased supporting AppleTalk with systems greater than OS 10.5, which made all this work so seamlessly. Thank you Apple for that omission!
Will a parallel Port to USB adapter work in this case? The 16/600 has an unused, capped parallel port. Will it work for Mac OS 10.6 or greater, or is it only operational with Windows computers? Is there some magic patch or driver that's needed for one to work on a Mac or is it plug and play?   People say they will, but I've heard that they won't work with this Mac configuration. Again, don't give me theory. Some speak so glibly about getting one and then of course "with USB all problems are solved." Others say they don't work.
Informed suggestions are eagerly awaited.

Novice or not, you've signed yourself up to set up an IP network.
The answer you seek — what address to assign to the printer — is dependent on knowing what the configuration of the DHCP address pool is.  If the stuff is in the 10.0.1.1 to 10.0.1.254 range, then you're likely in the 10.0.1.0/24 subnet, which means you can assign an address to that printer in that range that is not configured in the DHCP pool.
You're probably using the Airport as the DHCP server, so use Airport Utility (Applications > Utilities) to have a look around for the DHCP server settings within that device.  If the DHCP server is enabled, you'll almost certainly find a range of addresses that the DHCP server can pass out.  (Other devices can also potentially be a DHCP server for your network, such as your cable or DSL box.  You'll usually only want one DHCP server, but I don't know what device is providing that service is on your network.)
If you're not sure what box is the DHCP server, the IP address can be available from a couple of Terminal.app command (launch Terminal.app from Applications > Utilities), ifconfig and ipconfig, as shown with some (partial) response data:
ifconfig -l
lo0 gif0 stf0 en0 p2p0
That's a lowercase dash-ell, BTW.  Look for the en device in the list that gets returned.  en0 from the above list is used in the following command:
ipconfig getpacket en0
server_identifier (ip): 10.4.4.1
If you see a couple of en devices, try both.
The server identifier is the DHCP server IP address.  That's the address of the box on your network that's passing out IP addresses — the address is 10.4.4.1 in the example shown.  What that particular network box is (on your network) I don't know.
As it can both help answer your question and help improve the documentation, please let me know what parts of what I've written both here and over in the article might be confusing to you.

Hi I have a Konica Minolta PagePro 1300W printer. This works with my Windows-based Toshiba laptop but not with my i-Mac. I have the latest (Mountain Lion 10.8.2) OS-X software.
I have installed the printer using 'System Preferences' on my i-Mac and it appears on the list of available printers but documents that I create just don't print.
Can someone please advise me how I get the Konica Minolta PagePro 1300W printer to work with my i-Mac?
    Thanks, John Lee

Looking at the Konica web site for the PagePro 1300W, I saw the following note.
Please note: This printer is designed to be used in computer operating systems running MS Windows only. Operating systems such as UNIX, Macintosh, or Linux are not supported nor do we have workaround drivers available. Older MS Windows versions, such as Windows 3.1/95/98[pre-SE] and NT 3.51/4.0, are not supported.
So KM are not going to help you. But the LinuxFoundation does provide a workaround that should allow you to print. Have a look at this web page. You will need to install all three packages as per the instructions from that page.

  • How do I get my new 27" Thunderbolt Display to work with my mid-2010 Macbook Pro?

How do I get my new 27" Thunderbolt Display to work with my mid-2010 Macbook Pro? Or am I SOL?
    Hardware Overview:
      Model Name:    MacBook Pro
      Model Identifier:    MacBookPro6,1
      Processor Name:    Intel Core i7
      Processor Speed:    2.8 GHz
      Number of Processors:    1
      Total Number of Cores:    2
L2 Cache (per Core):    256 KB
      L3 Cache:    4 MB
      Memory:    8 GB
      Processor Interconnect Speed:    4.8 GT/s
      Boot ROM Version:    MBP61.0057.B0F
      SMC Version (system):    1.57f18

You can't. Theoretically, Thunderbolt devices that only transfer video and audio should work with Mini DisplayPort MacBooks like yours, but it's not the case of the Thunderbolt Display. Its firmware doesn't allow it to be used with non-Thunderbolt Macs, so you can't use the Thunderbolt Display with the Mid 2010 MacBook Pro.
Instead, you have to look for another screen, or you can get an adapter and connect the MacBook Pro to a TV

  • How do I make my workhorse Samsung ML-1740 printer work with Yosemite 10.10.3?

How do I make my workhorse Samsung ML-1740 printer work with Yosemite 10.10.3?

Are any other Samsung printers affected? Or is this a specific ML-1915 problem?
(I still can print on a shared ML-1640 printer at home.)
I hope Apple is also reading these forums: As said before: This started with the OS X update!
Then in between there were Samsung printer updates issued by Apple via the softwareupdated function.
They also didn´t solve the problem.
I also tried removing the printer and adding/setting it up again. (as suggested in the Apple support pages).
Even installing the original driver that came on CD. That didn´t help either.
Logic still tells me that this is an Apple / OS X caused problem. Please fix it!!!
I have no intention to buy a new printer just because Apple might have messed up with their updates.
The printer was working perfectly fine and it just got a fresh toner.

  • How do you turn off the auto select behavior when working with shape layers?

How do you turn off the auto select behavior when working with shape layers?
I am using either of the path selection tools to select only some of the paths on the layer. I have the proper layer targeted. I have the selection too auto select option turned off.
If another layer has a path in that area, that layer becomes auto targeted and I get the wrong path. Turning off the layer is the only way to avoid this but then I have to  turn on the layer back on between making my selection and transforming to use the other layer as guide. Is there any way to stop this auto select? Locking the other layer does not stop the auto select, just prevents editing.

As far as i know the move tool options don't have any effect on the path selection tools.
You might try clicking on one of the path points or on the path itself with one of path selection tools and if you want to select multiple points
you can shift click with the Direct Selection Tool or Alt click to select the entire path.

You probably can't, but you can start by posting your queston in the correct forums...the OS X Mail and Address Book forums, as this forum is for troubleshooting Apple Software Update for Windows, a software package for Windows designed to update Apple products that run on Windows, and not related to your question in any way.

  • Getting the Apple LaserWriter Pro 600/630 to work on 64 Bit Machines

Hi everyone, I just wanted to post a success story of mine as I was attempting to get an Apple LaserWriter Pro 600/630 printer to work on my 64 Bit Vista machine.
I read on a few posts, namely from this topic, that you could trick windows into thinking that your apple printer was actually an HP Laserwriter III printer (or in my case, a LaserJet rather than LaserWriter), although almost every topic on that subject referenced a website containing the drivers, which has been down for nearly four years. This is the most recent copy I could find of that website discussing the issue I, and several other users, was experiencing.
In short, whatever computer is physically connected to your apple printer (note that this can work for networked setups), you need to select a Laserwriter III PostScript Cartridge v52.2 driver. In my case, I didn't have that driver, although I got away with installing the printer as an HP LaserJet IIIP PostScript Cartridge v52.2.
The test page just finished printing off, and everything seems to be working fine!
I really hope this benefits someone.

Make sure you compile as a 32 bit app.

  • How can I get an old Casio CTK-593 to work with Logic Express?

Title pretty much says it all.
I have a Fast Track USB from M-Audio to connect it to my pc but I don't know how to get it working with Logic.
    Thanks in advance.

Did you check your connection with the audio-midi-setup.app in the programs/utilities folder of your MAC (not "pc" pls)?
If you have a working MIDI connection, you'll need to open up a software instrument track within Logic to play Logic's instruments via your keyboard.
